PoliticsWhy I Joined APC - Adeoye Daniel by Vibrant007(op): 2:49pm On Mar 17, 2025
As political alignments and realignments begin ahead of the 2027 elections, a former PDP chairmanship aspirant for the 2024 Sagamu Local Government elections, Hon. Adeoye Daniel, has officially pitched tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC). Stating the reason for his defection, Hon. Adeoye cited the citing disillusionment with his former party’s leadership approach and a desire to support a government he believes is delivering meaningful progress.

Hon. Daniel has been a dedicated member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) since 2002. His wealth of experience earned him the position of Ogun State Deputy Youth Coordinator for the Jonathan/Sambo 2015 Presidential Campaign Organization. His political expertise continued to open doors as he served as a campaign team member and appointee under Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu during the 2019 and 2023 governorship campaigns.

A committed public servant, Hon. Adeoye Daniel’s political journey began in 2002 when he volunteered with the Gateway Front Foundation . His dedication was recognized by his father figure, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, which led to his inclusion in his Ogun State PDP Governorship campaign team for the 2003 and 2007 elections. During this time, he toured all the 236 wards of Ogun State, serving as a core team member.

Hon. Daniel was appointed as a Supervisor for the Ogun State Employment Generation Board (OGEGEB). In this role, he played a pivotal part in training and providing employment opportunities for thousands of Ogun State residents in various trades, including painting, fashion design, carpentry, plumbing, welding, aluminum work, barbing, and culinary arts.

Hon. Daniel also contributed significantly to Ogun State’s international engagements, serving on the Gateway Games Committee during the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup Finals, hosted in Ogun State. At the local government level, he served as Supervisor for Water Resources/Health and later as Special Adviser on Water/Environmental Resources in Sagamu Local Government, under the administration of Hon. Daisi Akintan.

Hon. Adeoye Daniel emphasized that a strong opposition is only necessary when a government is failing. However, he acknowledged that the APC-led government has demonstrated significant progress at both the national and state levels. This progress inspired him to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, believing that the nation is on the right path to greater development.

Hon. Daniel, who also previously served as one of the personal aides to Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, made his official declaration to join APC public, during an interview with the media over the weekend. He praised the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his visionary leadership and remarkable developmental strides in Ogun State.

“Governor Abiodun is a great and performing leader who has steered the Gateway State forward, bringing rapid development to the state and its people,” Daniel stated. He pointed out that the economic, infrastructural, and social advancements witnessed in Ogun State are clear indicators of APC’s commitment to development and progress.

Hon. Daniel’s move to APC was not a solo decision—he was accompanied by thousands of supporters and loyalists who share his vision of contributing to a greater Ogun State and Nigeria. He urged all APC members to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s goals, ensuring that the dividends of democracy are delivered across the country.

Furthermore, he expressed his admiration for the national leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, applauding the administration’s policies aimed at promoting economic stability, national peace, and overall transformation.

“Under the APC, we are witnessing genuine progress that uplifts the lives of Nigerians. This government has implemented policies that ensure a brighter and more prosperous future for our country," Adeoye affirmed.

With his extensive political experience and commitment to public service, Hon. Adeoye Daniel is determined to contribute meaningfully to the APC's mission of promoting sustainable development, good governance, and the continued progress of Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

Nairaland GeneralRMDC Backs Remo Committee Proposal, Calls For Ijebu Unity In New State Creation by Vibrant007(op): 2:49pm On Mar 15, 2025
On behalf of the Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition (RMDC), we extend our warm appreciation to the Remo Committee on State Creation, set up by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CON, LLB, BL, LLM, FCA, FBR (Torungbuwa II), Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, for a well-packaged and meticulously crafted document as outcome of the assignment to them. Both in the aesthetic presentation and depth of its content, the report is emphatic about preserving the identity and legitimate interests of Remo Kingdom. It also essentially seeks to foster unity between the Remos and the Ijebus, in their ongoing bid for a new State.

The submission of the 66-page memorandum proposing the creation of Remo-Ijebu State, with Sagamu as the proposed State Capital, is a testament to the commitment, wisdom, and determination of the Akarigbo-in-Council, all other Royal Fathers and elders across Remoland. It lends credence to the great passion and unalloyed loyalty that the dedicated committee members had invested to have worked tirelessly to protect Remo's heritage and preserve our identity, and collective interests.

We have carefully reviewed the 66-page memorandum, which had been formally presented to the Akarigbo in the presence of committee members, Royal Fathers, youth representatives, media personnel, and other key stakeholders. It is evident that the Committee’s passion for what is best for Remoland has driven this initiative. We are, therefore, not hesitant to rate the position pushed in the memorandum as being representative of our collective persuasion. It also satisfactorily assures Remo sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, that our interest would be well taken care of. In addition, this position enshrines a strong sense of belonging and radiates great hope for bright future in the New State.

We hereby wish to respectfully acknowledge with appreciation, the frantic support of our revered monarch, HRM Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CON, whose wisdom and foresight continue to guide Remoland towards a prosperous future. We also commend the Royal Fathers across Remoland for playing a pivotal role in securing a future that honours the struggles of our forebearers, while laying a strong foundation for generations unborn. Their collective endorsement of the memorandum which the Akarigbo had since submitted to the National Assembly is a historic milestone for rightful positioning of Remo's identity and interests for being reckoned with, in the proposed new State.

The Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition sincerely appreciates and acknowledges the efforts and dedication of the Committee, led by its Chairman, Aare Kola Oyefeso, alongside the other committee members, who have worked extensively to ensure that Remo’s rightful place in history is ascertained. We, as the Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition (RMDC), firmly align our interests with the well-articulated proposals in the memorandum - emphasizing Remo’s vital importance, which clearly represents, protects, and justifies:

1. the recognition of Remo’s distinct identity
within the new state structure;

2. the fair and equitable naming of the proposed new state as Remo-Ijebu State;

3. the recommendation of Sagamu as the capital of the proposed new State, based on its connectivity of access to many neighbouring States and immediate West African neighbouring countries, including its inherent economic viability and rapid infrastructural growth; and

4. the call for additional Local Government Councils within Remoland, as to reflect its emerging population expansion and vital. economic contributions to the development of the proposed New State.

There is no gainsaying that the memorandum promote unity, ensures fairness and embraces our Ijebu partners, while preserving the distinct historical and cultural identity of Remoland. It is an example of true collaboration, equity, and mutual respect between two historically linked yet uniquely distinct ethnic groups.

As we pursue the long-anticipated independence of Ogun East (formerly Ijebu Province) through the creation of a new State, we have a great reservation for the lack of common audience to have a document firmed up by both the Remo and Ijebu delegates. The fact that the Ijebus are yet to come up with their submissions calls for great concerns too. On this note, we reverently beckon at our leaders, elders, and other key stakeholders from both Remoland and Ijebuland to come together to find a unifying ground that will enable this historic vision to become a reality. “A journey of a thousand years begins with a single step” – Lao Tzu.

As a diaspora advocacy group, the Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition (RMDC) is rallying its efforts to ensure Remoland's rightful place within the proposed State is fully recognized. To this end, we strongly urge:

• The National Assembly, the Federal Government, our Royal Fathers, and all stakeholders to prioritize fairness and equity in the final deliberations on the State creation process.

• H.E. Governor Dapo Abiodun and our distinguished Senator for Ogun-East District, H. E. Otunba Gbenga Daniel to support the agenda of promoting the desires of the Remo people and allow posterity to judge their leadership favourably for where they stand in this fragile moment of decision.

• Political and traditional leaders to champion Remo’s cause, in alignment with the positions clearly documented and put forward by our elders and revered monarch.

We pray for continued wisdom for our Royal Fathers, as they lead and safeguard the future of Remoland each passing day. We also appeal to all stakeholders to unite behind a vision that honours the aspirations of both Remo and Ijebu, ensuring fair representation, equity, and sustainable progress for the entire proposed State.

As a people who originated from the Iremo Quarters of Ile-Ife, this is a defining moment in our history, and we must ensure that Remoland is not marginalized in this process of agitation for a New State out of the erstwhile Ijebu Province and what is now the Ogun-East Senatorial District within the present Ogun State. We also hope that our Ijebu people will show required understanding to allow a mutually beneficial consensus to be reached. With great trust in God, we remain steadfast in our commitment to preserving our identity, protecting our interests, and securing a brighter future for the unborn generations of Remonians.

Long Live Remoland!
Long Live the Proposed New State!!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Nairaland GeneralIJEBU STATE: Preserve Remo Kingdom's Identity, Faith Daniel Appeals To FG by Vibrant007(op): 6:18pm On Feb 25, 2025
A versatile serial entrepreneur and the Chief Executive Officer of NewFresh Logistics (a logistics and procurement company), Olola Faith Daniel, has joined voices with other concerned Remo indigenes at home and in the diaspora in appealing to all members of the National Assembly, Federal Government, Royal Fathers and all concerned Stakeholders for fairness and inclusion of Remo in the ongoing bid for the creation of a new state from the former Ijebu Province.

Olola Faith Daniel is a young entrepreneur whose innovative vision through teamwork efficiency has earned the success of establishing a social enterprise company—Creed-Inno Group—a turnkey solutions enterprise that provides comprehensive business support and development services designed for startups and immigrant-owned businesses across Canada. He is also a Canadian life insurance, family and retirement planning professional.

Faith Daniel, a proud son of Remo Kingdom, is one of the sons of His Grace, Most Rev. Abraham Adebola Daniel, JP (of blessed memory) , who was the Olori Ebi of the Otesile Dynasty and hailed from the revered Chief Daniel Abamba Otesile lineage of, Makun Kingdom, Sagamu. As an individual who has navigated both the Ijebu and Remo regions through birth, while spending a significant part of his life in Remoland before living abroad, Faith Daniel brings a unique and fair perspective to the discourse.

In a passionate statement, Faith Daniel emphasized the importance of ensuring the new state becomes a reality while advocating for a process that reflects equity, fairness, and inclusion for his paternal ancestral root, the Remo people.

“I believe the actualization of the new state is of utmost importance to us all, and it is a dream that I strongly hope will come to fruition in our lifetime. However, beyond its creation, it is imperative that Remo is fully integrated and given a sense of belonging. Fairness and equity are values I hold dear, and they should be upheld in this historic process,” he stated.

Remoland, being the ancestral origin of my forefathers, is one of the greatest blessings and historic facts my father bestowed upon me by integrating me into my roots, culture, and values. It is dear to my heart to protect, preserve, and advocate for all that revolves around my heritage and their interests—not just for ourselves, but especially for the generations yet unborn.

As we say, “Our actions today account for the history of tomorrow.”

Faith Daniel further stressed that Remo’s identity, economic contributions, and cultural heritage must not be sidelined in the structuring of the new state. He echoed concerns that while the proposed name Ijebu State carries historical significance, the lack of proper representation for Remo in capital allocation and fair local government distribution would create an imbalance that contradicts the principles of unity and justice; otherwise, we have alternative names like Ijebu-Remo State or Remo-Ijebu State, as popularly recommended.

Applauding the Federal Government and reinforcing confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the father of modern Nigeria, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR—since assuming office, the President and his proactive cabinet have demonstrated remarkable direction and speed in implementing several newly introduced policies, to mention a few, such as:

•Establishment of the Student Loan Scheme

•Establishment of the Consumer Credit Corporation with over N200 billion

•Decentralization of NCAT, splitting campuses into 6 Geopolitical Zones

•Launch of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative

•Securing $620 million under the Digital and Creative Enterprises (IDiCE) Program

•The painful yet necessary decision to remove fuel subsidies and abolish multiple foreign exchange systems

•Implementation of the provision of the constitution, which recognizes Local Government as the third tier of government, granting financial autonomy to Local Governments in Nigeria

•Proposal of the Tax Reform Bills

•Signing of the Development Commission Establishment Bills, to accelerate development across geopolitical zones in the country

•Initiation of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Highway projects

I am one among those who are optimistic that, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria will undoubtedly experience long-term, transformative improvements in the right direction.

I also use this medium to urge our dear President to infuse fairness, equity, and inclusive development—principles that have continued to remain the cornerstone of his administration—especially in the ongoing discussions on the creation of a new state from the former Ijebu Province, ensuring that Remo’s identity and representation remain vital in this historic process.

“As someone with ties to both Ijebu and Remo, I deeply appreciate the cultural and economic interdependence of both regions. However, the development of the new state should not be at the expense of one party. This is not just about drawing boundaries; it is about securing a future where every part of the proposed new state will be equally represented and empowered to thrive,” he stated.

The serial entrepreneur reiterated the Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition’s stance, as the Acting Deputy Chairperson and the Strategic Planning Coordinator of the organization RMDC, on the need for Remo’s identity in name selection, state capital allocation, fair local government distribution, rotational governance agreements, and economic representation for Remoland.

As advocacy efforts intensify, Olola Faith Daniel continues to call on all Remo stakeholders, traditional rulers, policymakers, and concerned citizens to unite and ensure that Remo’s interests remain a priority in the ongoing discussions at the National Assembly.

“From the history we met and the experiences we can account for, Ijebu and Remo are brothers and share many common traits, although they still differ in their unique identity, language, culture, and values. More importantly, the need for diversity should be the bedrock of establishing a strong foundation for the new state we all clamour for.”

“This is a defining moment in our history. If we are going to achieve this long-anticipated dream, we must do so with fairness, respect for all parties, and a commitment to sustainable governance. Remo must not be marginalized in its own home,” he concluded.

With Faith Daniel’s deep-rooted connection to both Ijebu and Remo, coupled with his professional expertise in business development, finance, and logistics, Faith Daniel’s voice adds a strategic dimension to the advocacy for fairness in the state creation process. As more Remo indigenes rally for their rightful place in the proposed state, the call for justice and inclusion grows louder, urging the National Assembly, Federal Government, Our Royal Fathers, and all Stakeholders to ensure that history is written with equity at its core.

PoliticsRe: ICPC Seeks Forfeiture Of N1.3b For Kaduna Light Rail Project by Vibrant007(op): 6:36pm On Feb 19, 2025
The attention of the former members of the Kaduna State Executive Council (2015 to 2023) has been drawn to a biased and obviously twisted news report about the attempt by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to get a court order seeking the forfeiture of N1.3b said to have been allegedly paid into the account of an unregistered company in respect of the Kaduna Light Rail Project. We are obliged to set the records straight, if only for the sake of prosperity by providing the following facts and clarifications:

First, we wish to state that the Kaduna Light Rail Project came about as part of the infrastructural revolution of the Mallam Nasir El-Rufai administration to turn Kaduna into a modern and developed state. The project was conceived as a landmark legacy project by the State Executive Council in October 2015, to be funded with part of the just secured World Bank Performance for Results loan of about $350 million.
Given the magnitude of the project, which was estimated to cost between US$600-700 million, we needed foreign collaboration and funding. We therefore started with adverts in reputable local and international publications including The Economist Magazine. A copy of the advertisement for Expression of Interest dated November 2015 in the national dailies is attached as Annex 1.
In the end, an Indian company known as Skipper secured the award of the project following the competitive tender process. They were to be responsible for securing a loan of about 85% of the project cost from the Indian Export Import Bank, whilst Kaduna State Government was to pay 15% as equity. The contract term was consequently changed from an EPC to a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer so that Skipper will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operations of the light rail system and the repayment of the loan. A copy of the Public Private Partnership agreement is attached as Annex 2.
In order to secure the loan from Indian Eximbank, we were required to submit a Detailed Project Report/Feasibility Study, for which a well known French group with requisite expertise – Systra, was engaged along with GTA Engineering Limited. After working for about six months with a team of experts from France, UAE and India, they submitted a 291-page feasibility report – the cost of which was $2.8m (then about N890million). A copy of the Feasibility Study is attached as Annex 3.

A memo was then submitted to the Kaduna State Executive Council (Exco) in November, 2017 to seek its approval/ratification of the report and payment which was duly granted. Then came a time that we wanted to do the ground-breaking, a request was duly sent to the Governor for the ground-breaking and the release of the first tranche of N1.2b deposit to the Joint Venture company’s account – Indo Kaduna Mass Rail System.

An account was opened for the joint venture company with Sterling Bank. The Kaduna State Government was required to fund the account as part of its 15% equity contribution and a gesture of good faith. The approved payment of N1.2 billion was transferred to the new account whilst Skipper was handling the incorporation of the joint venture company with the Corporate Affairs Commission.

Based on the Detailed Project Report and the Feasibility Study prepared by Systra and GTA Engineering, we secured an in-principle approval from the Indian EXIM Bank in January 2017; a copy of which is attached as Annex 4. One of the conditions precedent to the final approval of the loan from the Indian EXIM Bank is the provision of a Sovereign Guarantee by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which we initially understood would be made available to Kaduna State. However, the then Minister of Finance pushed back, saying the nation’s foreign debt burden was becoming too high and that she would be accused of being partial towards Kaduna State if they gave the Sovereign Guarantee. So, because of this, we could not continue with the project. Meanwhile, during the intervening period, we had increased our down payment to N12 billion as part of Kaduna State’s 15% equity contribution.
When it became obvious that the Sovereign Guarantee would not be we granted, we recalled the money from Sterling Bank. The bank refunded all the funds except for the cost of the feasibility study (N890million as stated in Paragraph 4 above) that had been paid which remains the property of the Kaduna State Government. Anytime, anyone wants to embark on the project, he will just pick up the report and start the project. There were other costs that had been incurred by Skipper and GTA, which had to do with geo-mapping of corridors, land acquisition, domestic and international travels and other relevant expenses; for which an understanding was reached for a setoff against interest received on the deposit.

As a responsible and transparent administration, we engaged the services of a forensic audit firm to ensure that the refunds due to Kaduna State Government were received as per attached copy, marked Annex 5.

It would be recalled that when some senior officials of the immediate past Kaduna State Executive Council were arrested by the ICPC, the allegation was that the N13 billion for the light rail project was missing. But, when evidence of the refund that was made to the Kaduna State Government and the report of the forensic audit that was conducted by the El-Rufai administration were made available to the ICPC, the narrative changed! Surprisingly, ICPC became hostile and decided to go after Sterling Bank and forced the bank to deposit N1.3billion into an Escrow Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), pending litigation to determine if any fraud or crime had been committed. Please note that the N1.3 billion which Sterling Bank was forced to pay into the Escrow Account is the addition of the N890 million cost of the Feasibility Study and about N400 million interest that accrued on the deposit in the joint venture account.
Now, instead of waiting for the litigation process to run through its course and see if anyone is guilty of any crime, ICPC, goaded on by the Kaduna State Government, is seeking for the money in the Escrow Account with the CBN to be forfeited. The question is: What is the basis for the forfeiture and why is ICPC circumventing the process?
Of course, it is not our money and we would gladly support any legitimate process that will raise funds for our beloved State. But, we, as members of the former Kaduna State Executive Council (2015 to 2023), want to make it clear to the whole world that there was no iota of any wrongdoing. What we did in respect of the Kaduna Light Rail Project was as transparent as it was legitimate and lawful. All that is playing out is that the Kaduna State Government is using ICPC to harass Sterling Bank to make it look as if what we did should not have been done in trying to build a modern and developed state for Kaduna. The money they are asking to be forfeited was not anywhere. The ICPC forced Sterling Bank to produce and deposit the money with the CBN. Now, Sterling Bank is in turn trying to force Skipper to pay them the money even when the company had rendered services to the Kaduna State Government! The project and payments were duly approved by the Kaduna State Executive Council and the Governor. The feasibility study and other documents relating to the Kaduna Light Rail Project are now the properties of the Kaduna State Government.
On the issue of paying money into the account of a yet to be registered company, there were divergent opinions as to whether we should use a limited liability company that is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission or use a company established by the State House of Assembly. It took sometime to go with Skippers’ preference for a limited liability company. In any case, opening an account in the name of a company pre-incorporation is not a crime under our laws. It only means that the signatories to the account are personally liable for pre-incorporation activities. Meanwhile, the same joint venture company, Indo Kaduna MRTS-JV Nigeria Limited had been registered in India. That was why the Indian NEXIM Bank agreed to transact with the Kaduna State Government. But for the Sovereign Guarantee that could not be secured from the Federal Government, the Kaduna Light Rail Project would have been completed or be nearing completion.

In conclusion, these are the facts. There is no basis for any forfeiture proceedings or Court Order. It is sheer oppression and abuse of power to confiscate private assets and discourage foreign direct investments. We challenge the purveyors of lies and falsehood to come forward with genuine documents to contradict any of the foregoing facts and we will respond accordingly!

Nairaland GeneralEFCC, Yahoo Yahoo Boys And Rising Ritual Killings by Vibrant007(op): 4:22pm On Feb 16, 2025
By Tunde Nasiru

There is a troubling trend: internet fraudsters popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo boys” are on the prowl - and menacingly so. As if the crime of defrauding people of their hard-earned money under false pretense is not already too much, their greed and insatiable quest for ostentatious lifestyle have pushed them into other dangerous and violent crimes.

Unsuspecting young ladies are being hoodwinked and used for money rituals; just as these band of criminals get involved in kidnapping, banditry and arms trafficking. For them, it is money by all means and any means whatsoever. No scruples!

This startling revelation was recently made by no less a personality than the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, who
stated that the country has lost over $500m in one year due to internet fraud.

He, however, noted that the activities of internet fraudsters had evolved beyond online scams, warning that they were now involved in more dangerous crimes, such as kidnapping, ritual killings, banditry and arms trafficking.

Last year alone, EFCC got over 11,000 petitions, investigated close to 9,000, and prosecuted nearly 5,000 cases despite the limited manpower of the agency. Even the criminals are becoming more daring and their politically exposed “colleagues“ are not relenting in attacking the EFCC. So, for Olukoyede and his team, it is battle from all fronts, including simulated media ‘war’.

Recently, people have criticised the EFCC for going after “Yahoo Yahoo boys”, but Olukoyede said such criticisms are coming from the perpetrators, their beneficiaries and few genuine people who do not understand the severity of the trending phase of Yahoo Yahoo crime.

“It is no longer just about scamming people. They are now into kidnapping, banditry, and ritual killings. Some of our investigations have uncovered horrifying details, including cases where young female victims were used for rituals. If we don’t act decisively, in the next 10 years or so, we may not have a generation we can confidently hand over this country to,” Olukoyede said.

The EFCC helmsman stressed the need for the commission to be above board like Caesar's wife. This, he said, accounted for EFCC’s commitment to internal cleansing; a policy that saw to the sacking of 27 commission staff members early this year over corruption allegations.

The EFCC chairman urged the media to play a more active role in shaping public perception of the commission’s work, advocating investigative journalism that highlights both corruption and the agency’s sterling achievements.

"The media has always been a key player in the anti-corruption fight. In the early 2000s, before the EFCC was established, it was journalists who exposed many financial crimes. We need to return to that era where the media and law enforcement work together to protect the country,” the anti corruption czar said.

The nefarious activities of the “Yahoo Yahoo Boys” are inimical to the progress and development of this nation. Lives of youths - the most productive segment of the nation's population - are cut short in their prime, apart from the international opprobrium visited on Nigerians abroad, where every carrier of the green passport is assumed to be a fraudster.

Perhaps, it is time to advocate more severe punishments, like life imprisonment, for anyone nvolved in internet fraud and other crimes like kidnapping, banditry, and ritual killings. It is not enough to confiscate the proceeds of crime and sentence them to years of imprisonment. Or, is it not said that desperate times call for desperate measures?

PoliticsGroup Accuses Kaduna Governor Of Keeping Political Prisoners by Vibrant007(op): 6:52pm On Feb 06, 2025
...Urges Amnesty International, others to wade in

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as the Voice of Truth Nigeria (VTN) has accused the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani of keeping political prisoners in spite of valid and subsisting orders of court of competent jurisdiction granting them bail.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by VTN's Programmes Coordinator, Dare Quadri, the group stated that the political prisoners are Jimi Adebisi Lawal, the former Senior Advisor and Counsellor to ex-Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; Umar Waziri, the former Accountant-General of Kaduna State; Bashir Saidu, a former Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance and Yusuf Inuwa, also a former Commissioner for Finance in the state.

The statement reads in part "It is worrisome that a man who parades himself as an activist and a member of the civil society would abuse his office and resort to using his position to compromise the judiciary and victimize political opponents who were charged on trumped on charges even when the court has granted them bail and they have since met the bail conditions. It is commonplace that an accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty. But, in Governor Uba Sani's Kaduna State, the reverse seems to be the case.

"It is a sad commentary on our judiciary that the application for the variation of the bail terms have been stalled over one flimsy excuse or the other.

"According to credible information available to us, while Saidu was accused of laundering N155 million; Lawal, Waziri, Inuwa and a company known as Solar Life Nigeria Limited were charged for allegedly laundering N64.8 million by the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) on the 21st of January, 2025, contrary to the earlier unfounded claim of misappropriating the sum of N423 billion.

"After taking their non-guilty pleas, the Federal High Court heard their bail applications and consequently granted them bail. The court ordered the defendants to provide two sureties with N50 million each, who must have landed property in Kaduna with verified Certificates of Occupancy.

"Shortly after the defendant were granted bail, the agency responsible for the verification of Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O), Kaduna Geographical Information Service (KADGIS), suddenly suspended verification services for Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O), just as its Director-General was said to have suddenly travelled out of Kaduna to an unknown destination and without any information as to when he would return.

"All these schemes, we were reliably informed, were at the instance and under the direction of Governor Sani who has vowed to keep the defendants behind bars for as long as he desires. And to make through his boastings the defendants has remained in prison custody since the 21st of January, 2025 even when they have met all the bail conditions because KADGIS, acting on the instruction of Governor Sani, refused to verify the Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O) in spite of two letters written by Mrs Anthonia Layi Oyibo, the Deputy Registrar of the Federal High Court, Kaduna, seeking their verification. The first was dated 21st day of January, 2025 and the second was dated 3rd February, 2025."

The group therefore urged all well-meaning Nigerians, the international community and foremost human rights organisations, such as Amnesty International (AI) and Human Rights Law Service (HURILAWS), among others, to prevail on Governor Sani to stop the abuse of power and free all the political prisoners "without further delay".
Nairaland GeneralIjebu State: RMDC Writes Tinubu, Demands Equity And Fair Representation by Vibrant007(op): 4:13pm On Jan 31, 2025
….Calls for Location of Capital in Remo, possible renaming to ‘Ijebu-Remo State

In an appeal to Nigeria’s top political and traditional leaders, the Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition (RMDC) has urged for fairness, inclusivity and equity in the ongoing push for the creation of Ijebu State from the existing Ogun State. The group, representing concerned Remo indigenes abroad, emphasized the need for a balanced approach that ensures Remo’s identity, contributions, and political representation are not sidelined.

In an open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Gbenga Daniel, Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, and traditional rulers—including the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland—the coalition outlined key concerns and recommendations to ensure the new state reflects the interests of all stakeholders.

The advocacy for an Ijebu State dates back to the colonial era when Ijebu Province was among the 20 provinces established in 1923. Despite its economic and historical significance, it remains one of the few old provinces yet to attain statehood. While the move to create a new state has gained fresh momentum under the leadership of Senator Gbenga Daniel, the RMDC insists that Remo, which was part of the former Ijebu Province, must be fully integrated into the planning and structure of the proposed state. Their key demands include;

State Name and Capital Location

While acknowledging the historical significance of the name Ijebu State, the RMDC argues that it does not fully represent the Remo people, who have contributed immensely to the region’s cultural and economic growth. They propose three options:

Retaining the name Ijebu State but locating the capital in Ikenne or Sagamu, two major commercial and industrial hubs of the region.

Renaming the state Ijebu-Remo State to reflect the two key components of the former Ijebu Province.

If equity cannot be assured, advocating for an independent Remo State, possibly incorporating the Ikorodu axis to strengthen economic viability.

The coalition strongly suggests Ikenne as a strategic choice for the capital, citing its historical significance as the hometown of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Nigeria’s foremost nationalist and former Premier of the Western Region. Ikenne’s central location between Ijebu and Remo, they argue, would ensure balanced development.

Local Government Distribution and Representation

A major point of contention is the proposed allocation of 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to Ijebu and only 6 to Remo, a disparity the RMDC describes as structurally unjust. They advocated for the subdivision of Remo LGAs to increase political representation, including:

Splitting Sagamu LGA into six LGAs

Splitting Ikenne LGA into three LGAs

Splitting Remo North LGA into three LGAs

This, they argue, will ensure fair governance, resource distribution, and economic growth for Remo communities.

Rotational Leadership Agreement
To prevent marginalization, the coalition calls for a formal agreement ensuring that key state positions—such as Governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly, and other leadership roles—rotate between Ijebu and Remo in a structured manner.

Cultural Heritage and Identity Preservation
The group stresses the importance of preserving Remo’s distinct cultural identity, traditions, and historical significance within the new state. They propose the establishment of a cultural framework that equally celebrates both Ijebu and Remo heritage, ensuring unity while respecting diversity.

The RMDC commended Senator Gbenga Daniel for his efforts in championing the bill for Ijebu State creation but urged him to ensure that Remo’s interests are adequately represented in all discussions and decisions. They also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to support a fair resolution that does not sideline any group.

While reaffirming their support for the creation of a new state, the RMDC maintains that the process must be built on fairness and unity, ensuring a state that serves as a model for inclusivity and development. Whether the outcome leads to an Ijebu State, an Ijebu-Remo State, or even a separate Remo State, they insist that all deliberations must consider equity, cultural identity, and sustainable governance.

“This is not just a political decision—it is a legacy for future generations. We must get it right,” the coalition stated.

As the conversation on state creation continues, all eyes are on the decision-makers to ensure a just and inclusive outcome for both Ijebu and Remo people.

PoliticsOgun PDP Crisis Deepens As Two State Chairmen, Others Emerge As State Excos by Vibrant007(op): 6:25pm On Sep 28, 2024
The crisis rocking the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Saturday as the party produced two State Chairmen and other state executive members.

While the group loyal to the 2023 governorship candidate of the party, Hon. Ladi Adebutu which gathered at the Abeokuta Sports Club, produced Abayomi Tella as State Chairman, the coalition led by governorship aspirant, Chief Jimi Adebisi Lawal (JAL); the Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon. Abdulkadir Adekunle Akinlade and the immediate past State Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Sikirulai Ogundele, which held its own congress at the NeuGate Exclusive Hall, Agbeloba, Abeokuta, the state capital, produced Hon (Dr.) Sikirulai Ogundele as the State Chairman.

While the Ladi group had Sunday Solarin as the State Secretary, the Lawal-led group produced Alhaji Salisu Abdulwaheed Oloruntola as the State Secretary.

Both Ogundele and Solarin were the immediate past State Chairman and State Secretary respectively. However, they now belong to opposing camps.

Also, while a journalist, Austin Oniyokor emerged as the State Publicity Secretary at the Congress held by the Lawal group, the Adebutu group had Adebayo Kayode, and architect, as its Publicity Secretary.

The same situation applies to the other 36 State executive positions that make up the elected state executive officers.

This development is coming on the heels of the dispute that has dogged the Ward and Local Government Congresses held on the 31st August, 2024 and 14th September, 2024 - in the build up to the state congress.

The party held parallel ward and local government congresses across the 236 wards and 20 local government areas.

In Ogun State, there are two major factions. The one led by Adebutu and the coalition led by the trio of Lawal, Akinlade and Ogundele.

It was gathered that in all the wards and LGAs, two sets of executives emerged for the 17 ward Exco positions in all the 236 wards and the 18 available Exco positions in each of the 20 local government areas

The foundation for the parallel congress was said to have been laid by the alleged refusal to use of the registers authenticated by the national leadership of the party for the Ward Congress which is in favour of the Lawal-led group.

This is so because the Adebutu group refused to submit its registers to the national leadership of the party for authentication ahead of the congresses.

The authenticated registers, it was learnt, consist names of the delegates to the Ward Congress (i.e. those to vote and be voted for at the elective congress) in line with Section 8 (10) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).

The issue has become a subject of litigation before the Federal High Court in Abeokuta which has adjourned the matter till 15th October, 2024, for the hearing of the preliminary objection and originating summons.

Recall that on Friday, the court warned the party against undermining the integrity of the judicial process.

Delivering a ruling in Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/134/2024 between Chief Folorunsho Iseoluwa Akande and Ors. v. PDP and Ors., the Hon. Justice Abiodun Adeyemi said, "On the issue of preserving the RES which is the major fear of the Plaintiffs, the RES in this matter is not perishable like food, nor is it irreparable like pulling down a building. The subject matter relates around party Congress and recognition of members in compliance with certain laws. I am fully aware of the powers vested in the Court to set aside any act done outside the provisions of the law.I believe it is better for the Court not to make any positive orders until the issue of Jurisdiction is settled.

"Consequently, I admonish parties to take note of the fact that this Court is now fully seized of this matter and to refrain from taking any steps that will disturb the RES or undermine the integrity of the judicial process..."

This is so because the Ladi Adebutu group refused to submit its registers to the national leadership of the party for authentication ahead of the congresses.

The authenticated registers, it was learnt, consist names of the delegates to the Ward Congress (i.e. those to vote and be voted for at the elective congress) in line with Section 8 (10) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).

In the meantime, the court has adjourned the matter till 15th October, 2024, for the hearing of the preliminary objection and originating summons.

The state chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, has asserted that members of the union are responsible and peace-loving individuals, countering common misconceptions about their conduct. Sokoya made this statement during a live appearance on the radio program "OJU ABE" on Splash 106.7FM, yesterday, 14th of August, 2024.

During the interview, Sokoya emphasized that AMORAN regularly organizes orientation seminars for its members to educate them on the union’s ethics and norms. "I am saying with all confidence that our members are peace-loving, well-oriented, and responsible. Many people out there believe that union activities are managed by touts or rogues, but this is far from the truth," Sokoya declared. He added, "Among our members, we have lots of graduates. These individuals are well-read, discerning, and will never engage in any behavior that could tarnish the union's reputation."

Sokoya encouraged the public to report any inhumane or inappropriate activities involving union members to the AMORAN state secretariat at Car wash, Adatan. He assured that any member found guilty would face severe punishment.

In addition to defending the union’s reputation, Sokoya announced that the distribution of e-bikes in Ogun State would commence soon. He clarified that no fees are required from beneficiaries, other than the submission of personal details and a guarantor. The initiative, supported by the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, will be led by the three major motorcycle unions in Ogun State and is open to all residents, not just union members.

According to him, this development is part of ongoing efforts to modernize transportation in the state and promote environmentally friendly alternatives.

PoliticsEid-el-fitri: Kashamu Lifts Over 4000 Ogun Residents With Food, Cash Gift by Vibrant007(op): 7:19pm On Apr 10, 2024
Abdulrasheed Kashamu, son of the late Senator Buruji Kshamu, on Wednesday distributed rice and noodles as well as cash gifts to over 4000 residents of Ijebu Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government area of Ogun state.

This is just as Kashamu, who represents Ijebu North constituency 1 at Ogun State House of Assembly, said there is no better time than now for those who are privileged to reach out to the people and help cushion the effect of the prevailing economic hardship.

Speaking during the programme held at his late father's residence in Ijebu Igbo, the 27-year-old lawmaker said the kind gesture was nothing extraordinary, adding that it has always been the way of Kshamus to see to the welfare of others.

The Ogun State Minority Whip said, "Whatever we have done here today is the way of Kashamus. We have always believed in stretching hands of love and support to our people and it is a legacy that we inherited and which we have carried on with and we hope to do more.

"This is a gesture that has been going on for years. In the Kashamu family, we try to reach out to as many people as possible, uplift them, feed them and help them in our own little way.

"I use this opportunity to plead with others too who are quite privileged to lend a supportive hand. It is about all of us doing the little we can to make the society better and ensure that no one is left behind"

Kashamu pledged to continue to use his good office, just like his late father, who represented Ogun East at the Senate between 2015 and 2019, to facilitate many more people-oriented projects to Ijebu Igbo while also supporting the welfare of the people from time to time.

PoliticsUba Sani’s Naked Dance Over Kaduna’s Debts by Vibrant007(op): 6:38pm On Apr 01, 2024
By Godswill Gankon

The Governor of Kaduna state, Senator Uba Sani, like the proverbial masquerade, has chosen to dance naked in the market place. This time, he chose an unwilling partner in the naked dance. Since he left office, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has done everything humanly possible to stay away from Kaduna state and the governance of the state, as he promised when he was leaving office last year. Yet, his successor along with his hangers on, would not let him be. The only issue that they have always harped on is the state’s debt profile.

Now, contrary to Governor Sani’s claim, that the state only got about N3 billion from the Federation Allocation last month, figures from StatiSense has shown that the state got a Net Allocation of N17.52 billion from the Federal Allocation for January and February, 2024. This translates into an average of N8.7 billion per month. That is some N5.7billion per month difference! Why would a Governor who enjoyed being addressed as His Excellency recklessly fabricate figures about the State's Federal allocation and the deductions? Clearly, Governor Uba Sani deliberately reduced the income whilst exaggerating the deductions by more than double the actual amount so as to whip up sentiments against his predecessor.
Worse still, it was gathered from reliable sources within Governor Uba Sani's administration that even the wage bill of over N5 billion per month is as a result of his reckless appointments of political hangers on. The monthly wage bill was reported to be considerably lower during the tenure of El-Rufai.

Surprisingly, there has been so much fuss about what I have termed the “Lamentations of Uba Sani” that he inherited a debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion and 115 contractual obligation from the immediate past administration of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. He said he was unable to pay workers’ salaries due to the inherited debt, adding that the debt burden was eating deep into the state’s coffers.

I used the word “surprising” because sometimes in January this year, I had written about the sponsored media attacks on the person of El-Rufai and the government he led between 2015 and 2023.

In the piece entitled, “El-Rufai Moves to Katsina as Masari Moves to Kaduna”, I submitted that there was a common saying in the political and developmental circles in Kaduna state that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai has swapped position and place with his former colleague in Katsina state, Rt. Hon. Bello Aminu Masari.

The statement, I reasoned, was an euphemism suggesting that the bold ideas and purposeful leadership that the diminutive Mallam gave to Kaduna were being replicated in Katsina while Kaduna is witnessing the lacklustre performance synonymous with the Masari years in Katsina state.

I then went on to write that the so-called "discovery that the state was hugely indebted to a whooping (sic) sum of $600 million foreign debt" was everything but a discovery.

After chronicling the role played by the incumbent governor when he was a senator in procuring a $300 million loan facility, I stated that there was nothing to reveal about the debt situation of Kaduna state as El-Rufai himself had told the whole world during the handing over ceremony the assets and liabilities that he was leaving on the 29th of May, 2023.

El-Rufai had said he was leaving a domestic debt of N80.60bn and a foreign debt of $577.32m for the new administration. He also announced that he left N5bn and $2.05m in the state treasury.

El-Rufai added, "Kaduna State has receivables for reimbursements of infrastructure and security spending from the Federal Government, amounting to about N41bn, that will be paid to the state in due course.

"This does not include the sums due to the state as share of the accumulated stamp duties receipts, estimated at over N100bn, that the incoming government will certainly receive before the end of this year."

As a concerned Kaduna citizen but one who is not a fan of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, I had expected that Governor Sani would not just confirm the liabilities but also the assets. However, after getting some hirelings to make some noise about the state’s debt profile barely six months into his reign, the governor himself has now decided to rehash the same old stories that his lickspittles have been parroting.

Again, like his forerunners, Governor Sani only confirmed the same debts that Mallam El-Rufai had by himself announced to the whole world.

However, he did that without as much as a mention of the N5bn and $2.05m in the state treasury, reimbursements of infrastructure and security spending from the Federal Government, amounting to about N41bn and the accumulated stamp duties receipts, estimated at over N100bn.

An indicative evidence of bad faith and wicked politics of the friend turned enemy is the mentioning of 115 contractual liabilities. What does it mean and how much is the debt implication? Are the contractual liabilities not part of the debts? What happens to the underlying assets from the contractual liabilities? Why has it taken the Governor almost a year before these “open lamentations”. Is Uba Sani playing politics or preparing the ground or excuse for the dismal performance that is becoming synonymous with his administration when compared with the immediate past administration?

Perhaps, the buzz generated around the loan issue is because Governor Sani himself has come out to re-echo the debt issue and blame his inability to pay salaries on it. But, is government not said to be a continuum? When an administration takes over from an outgoing administration does it not inherit its assets and liabilities? Didn’t the El-Rufai administration or any other government elsewhere inherit assets and liabilities? Some of us are aware that nearly half of the debts that Governor Sani is complaining of were inherited by the El-Rufai Administration. But, Mallam never made it an excuse not to deliver on his mandate.

It makes no sense to talk about debts without addressing the corresponding assets, if only because revenues from the investments in which the debts were incurred could exceed the cost of servicing the debts and therefore be a blessing.

In my humble view, it would have made sense if Governor Sani is coming out to tell us that the loans that he partook in facilitating were not used for the intended purposes. Then, Mallam and his team can be called to explain how the loans were spent.

But again, that would be a tall order because Governor Sani himself while fighting tooth and nail to procure some of the loans is on record to have said on the 5th of March, 2020, “I have assured my colleagues in both the Senate and the House of Representatives that it is not possible for the Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, to fail on the promises of his administration regarding the use or disbursement of the loan from the World Bank. I even insist that I, Senator Uba Sani, be held liable if the the Governor fails or disappoints. But, of course, I know El-Rufai will never fail the people of Kaduna state, I am extremely happy and proud of the role some of us played in securing this loan for Kaduna state.”

So, how can you be “extremely happy and proud” of the role you played in securing loan for our state and then turn round now to lament the same loans? Does it not smack off double-speak and inconsistency?

Worse of all, a huge part of the debt was covertly, corruptly and perhaps criminally diverted by the then Senator Sani under the much-abused Godwin Emefiele's Anchor Borrowers Scheme.

Governor Sani should please tell the world how much of the loan he accessed from the CBN/ Kaduna State's treasury and how much he has repaid after his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A sizable portion of the so-called debts was also used to complete the building and furnishings of a new Governor's residence into which he moved, even before being sworn in as the State Governor!

Even now, he is said to be building a N7billion Banquet Hall at the Government House. Pray, of what economic benefit is a banquet hall to us as a people, especially at a time that the Governor is claiming inability to pay salaries? Is it necessary? What infrastructural significance is it adding to the state? Lagos State has the highest debt burden among the states, but the infrastructure is seen everywhere.

Put differently, Lagos State has the highest debt burden of all the States in Nigeria just as the USA has the highest debt burden of all the countries in the world, yet their leaders have not lamented that it is the debt burden that has made them not to deliver on their promises to the electorate or even the most elementary duty as the payment of salaries.

Governor Sani also conveniently forgot to mention the level of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) which he inherited even when he claimed that the balance from the monthly Federal allocation could not cover the monthly salary. What happened to the IGR which I understand was enough to cover the monthly salary under El-Rufai's Administration? According to BudgetIT, this was a distinction that was enjoyed by only Lagos and Kaduna of all the 36 States in the Federation up until 2023.

Those who should know have said when a Governor comes out and tells you about the size of the debt left to him, but does not comment specifically about the debt servicing implications on the budget, he is merely giving excuses for failure!

When he now goes to a Town Hall where he is supposed to outline his achievements in office in almost a year to say this is why he cannot meet his basic obligation of paying salaries when at least 60% of the FX loans are on concessionary terms and will be till he leaves office; when his own 2024 Budget puts debt servicing at around 5.6% of the total budget; when his accounts open with a N9 billion recurrent expenditure surplus; when his personnel costs are quadrupling at Government House but he has cut Local Government’s share of IGR from 10% to 1%; when he is secretly negotiating $100million in fresh (non-legacy) external loans himself, then you know the people are in for many more surprises!

Governor Sani should put on the proverbial thinking cap and stop playing the blame game. There is no where in the world where governance is a tea party. It is a serious job. He asked for it. He should roll up his sleeves and get to work. Leaders are elected or chosen to solve problems and not to lament or blame others for their failures whereas their lifestyles and priorities do not reflect what they want the rest of us to believe. A stitch in time, they say, saves nine. The day of reckoning would soon be here and we, the people of Kaduna state, will not accept excuses for non-performance!

Rufai Moves to Katsina, Masari Moves to Kaduna

By Godswill Gankon

There is a common saying in the political and developmental circles in Kaduna state that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai has swapped position and place with his former colleague in Katsina state, Rt. Hon. Bello Aminu Masari.

The statement is an euphemism suggesting that the bold ideas and purposeful leadership that the diminutive Malam gave to Kaduna are now being replicated in Katsina while Kaduna is witnessing the lacklustre performance synonymous with the Masari years in Katsina state.

As someone from Southern Kaduna, I am not a fan of Malam Nasir El-Rufai because of some of his actions and inactions. But, my personal reservations notwithstanding, one cannot in good conscience deny his developmental strides within the eight years that he held sway as helmsman in our dear Kaduna state.

That is why I became uncomfortable with some unpleasant tunes coming from Sir Kashim Ibrahim House - the seat of power in Kaduna State.

In recent times, there have been media reports and interviews suggesting some friction in the relationship between the incumbent governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani and his predecessor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

Two men - one Alhaji Yahaya Jisambo and another who claims to be a civil servant and ought to be apolitical - in line with civil service rules and regulations - have been most vociferous in the campaign of calumny against El-Rufai and the government he led between 2015 and 2023.

In their vain attempts to rewrite recent history and paint the El-Rufai administration black, the mercenaries have sought to fault everything El-Rufai did, by either questioning the intention or the cost of such projects.

They have made a heavy weather of the state's debt profile, decline in revenue and faulted some of the legacy urban renewal projects of the El-Rufai administration.

Only recently, a Kaduna-based newspaper reported about a "discovery that the state was hugely indebted to a whooping (sic) sum of $600 million foreign debt".

To think that this is coming is coming from within the ranks of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state makes it the more discomfiting. And this can be deduced from the silence that Sir Kashim Ibrahim House has paid to these disturbing reports.

Having waited in vain for weeks for some kind of rebuttal, even if perfunctory, without seeing any, it is perhaps safe to conclude that the campaign is orchestrated for some selfish and insidious motives.

But, how can the government of a man who was a member of the highest decision-making body in the El-Rufai administration and who promised to continue on the "path of continued progress" began by his predecessor turn round to undercut and run down his benefactor so soon? Is it really the way of politics and politicians? Or why play the Pontius Pilate when his supposed supporters are seeking to outdo one another in an attempt to paint black his predecessor, leader and benefactor?

It is even more disturbing when one recalls that the incumbent served as Special Adviser to Malam El-Rufai in his first time and went on to become a Senator in his second term. He is on record to have facilitated and moved a motion for the procurement of a $300 million loan facility for our dear Kaduna state when he served as Chairman of the 9th Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Financial Institutions.

Unknown to the mercenaries or perhaps out of pure mischief, there was nothing to "discover" in the state's debt portfolio as El-Rufai had told the whole world when he was handing over that he left a domestic debt of N80.60bn and a foreign debt of $577.32m for the new administration.

Clearly, government is a continuum. And to that extent, it is supposed to inherit both the assets and liabilities of the state.

That was why close observers of Kaduna politics were upbeat when the incumbent governor, Senator Uba Sani, as a governorship candidate, was quoted to have promised to continue with the policies and programmes of his predecessor and commended him for re-engineering governance in the state.

His words, "Before the coming of this administration, government's resources was (sic) being shared amongst a few elite, after payment of salaries. So, there was nothing left for development, in spite of the huge resources that Kaduna state was receiving as federal allocation.

"But, Malam Nasir El-Rufai changed the narrative by improving education, revamping healthcare and building infrastructure that is (sic) benefitting the good people of Kaduna state, instead of a few people."

Prior to becoming a candidate, in his declaration speech entitled, "Sustaining and Building on a Legacy of Outstanding Public Service and Impact", he said El-Rufai had elevated the bar of governance in the state, with his innovative and transformation policies that have impacted positively on infrastructure, agriculture, health, education and water services in the state.

Given the effusive praises of Malam El-Rufai by Senator Sani, it smacks of playing the ostrich if some lackeys now go public without any caution to amplify the state's liabilities without highlighting the assets it inherited and looking for scapegoats in the people who gave their utmost best for the development of our dear state.

All over the world, governments at national and sub-national levels borrow money to finance capital intensive but impactful long term projects. That is why it is often said that it is not a crime to borrow money but what is important is how the money was spent.

In the case of Kaduna State, there are visible legacy projects that the El-Rufai administration spent the state's resources on.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari during a two-day state visit commissioned 19 urban renewal road projects in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan.

Other projects commissioned included the multi-storey Basic Education Mega School in Lokoja Road in Rigasa and the Infectious Disease Hospital in Mando, among others.

Commending El-Rufai, the usually taciturn Buhari said, "you have committed yourself to changing Kaduna and you have been very successful and people throughout the country are appreciating it. You are writing your history in letters of gold. I congratulate you for your achievements so far."

In the area of revenue generation, the El-Rufai years saw to the quadrupling of the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from less than N13bn in 2015 to N52.82 billion in 2021 and rising to N58.09 billion in 2022.

Kaduna State under El-Rufai maintained a steady trajectory of growth in its IGR: N44.96 billion in 2019, N50.77 billion in 2020, N52.85 billion in 2021 and N58.09 billion in 2022.

These remarkable strides, according to those who should know, owe much to the legal and institutional reforms undertaken between 2015 and 2022 to strengthen Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service's (KADIRS) ability to collect revenues and block leakages.

The Tax Codification and Consolidation Law enacted by the El-Rufai government appointed the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) as the sole collector of government revenues, outlined all the taxes and levies payable in the state and prohibited the cash collection of revenue by any public officer.

It is doubtful if most of the institutional frameworks and those who were the major drivers are still within the system. Most of them have been removed without competent replacements.

One is further compelled to intervene before things get out of hand because of some not too cheery news filtering into my ears: that investors are beginning to run away from our dear state on account of the primordial demands being made of them. Those who are yet to leave are reviewing their investments and weighing their options.

Regardless of our political, tribal or religious leanings, all illustrious sons and daughters of our dear Kaduna state; all men and women of goodwill must not look away and allow things to get out of hand before lending their voices. In the final analysis, when two elephants fight, it is the people (the masses) that will bear the brunt. We have no other place to call our own than our beloved Kaduna state. Someone should please tell the present occupant of Kashim Ibrahim House and his supporters to stop looking for scapegoats and giving excuses. Leadership is all about identifying challenges and fixing them. Anything short of that is pretentious.

Malam Nasir El-Rufai has had his time and left the stage when the ovation was loudest. In keeping with his words, he has stayed out of Kaduna state to allow his successor to govern the state as he deems fit. He should be left alone to enjoy his well-deserved rest and pursue other private endeavours while those in the saddle tries to justify the confidence reposed in them instead of fishing in self-induced troubled waters.

PoliticsEl-rufai: All The Underhand Dealings Revealed by Vibrant007(op): 2:52pm On Aug 11, 2023

Not a few Nigerians have been taken aback by the decision of the Senate not to clear former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and two others as ministerial nominees, citing “security checks”. But, of the three, the one that has generated the most controversy and sent tongues wagging is El-Rufai’s and this is obvious. His contributions to the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as candidate and president are all in the public domain.

El-Rufai opposed the plan of the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, to retain power in the North and led the team of Northern governors who insisted that power must shift to the South.

At the heat of the campaign for APC’s presidential ticket, Aisha, the wife of the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari reportedly asked him to speak with the other governors who were running for the presidential ticket to step down for Tinubu. He went about the task and a good number of them, especially from the North, stepped down and supported the Tinubu candidacy.

Fast forward to the 8th of June, 2022 when Tinubu emerged as APC’s Presidential candidate.

After his emergence, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele and the so-called cabal in the then Federal Government came up with the currency swap initiative.

The Kaduna State Government under the leadership of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and two other state governments sued the Federal Government, the CBN and others, to challenge the policy at the Supreme Court. Later on, other state governments joined the suit; and they won. That was how the currency swap policy and the hardship it brought were mitigated.

Then in October 2022, Tinubu publicly said he would not leave the stage at the Kaduna Investment Summit until El-Rufai rescinded his decision to retire from public office and pursue other private endeavours. He said he needed him to stay and work with him.

In deference to Tinubu, who was his guest at the time, El-Rufai went on stage to meet him and said he would work with the then incoming government even if it was on part-time basis.

After emerging victorious at the poll, President Tinubu reportedly invited El-Rufai and told him that one of his campaign promises to Nigerians was uninterrupted power supply and that he had looked round and decided that El-Rufai was the man who could deliver for him on that promise.

At first, El-Rufai was said to have hesitated in accepting the offer. Over time, it took the interventions of some patriots and well-meaning Nigerians who allegedly prevailed on El-Rufai to accept the offer.

But, before he accepted the offer to serve, El-Rufai was said to have informed the President that based on his past experiences, it was imperative for gas to be under the same roof with the Federal Ministry of Power since gas was a critical component for electricity supply in this time and age, coupled with the drive for clean energy and climate change. It was said that if the proposal was accepted by the President, the new ministry would be known as Federal Ministry of Energy.

Informed sources also hinted that El-Rufai proposed the setting up of a National Energy Council under the Chairmanship of the President with representatives of the relevant ministries, agencies and departments, such as Federal Ministry of Finance, Federal Ministry of Petroleum, Federal Ministry of Environment and others.

With all these, it was gathered that the idea was for the President to drive the initiative for uninterrupted power supply while El-Rufai would implement it as Minister of Energy. The President consented and asked him to assemble his team and get to work immediately.

So, with the Presidential directive, El-Rufai assembled a team and began working about three weeks before his name was sent, alongside others, to the Senate for screening on the 27th of July, 2023.

Surprisingly, when El-Rufai appeared before the Senate for the screening, a Senator from Kogi State, Sunday Karimi, after commending El-Rufai for his achievements in public office, said he had a petition against him that bothered on "security, unity and cohesiveness". He urged the Senate to consider the petition while the screening the nominee.

When El-Rufai wanted to speak to the petition, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio said he should not bother.

His words: "I have to inform all of you that I have received similar petitions from some people against other nominees, but this is not where we are to deal with petitions. Our job here is to screen. And, of course, we can refer petitions to where petitions will be dealt with.

“They are nominees of Mr. President. If it is something where there is a formal petition before the Senate, we will look at it formally. But there are certain petitions we have to refer to the Presidency or security agencies to look at, and that has nothing to do with us. By the time we go into confirmation, we will be so advised. So, I want my brother to take a bow and go, and don’t bother to explain the petition.”

However, discreet investigation has revealed that the petition was allegedly given to Senator Karimi by Akpabio on the morning of the screening exercise. He was only asked to present it. This, perhaps, explains why he was recognized by Akpabio immediately he raised his hands.

Reliable sources in Abuja said Senator Karimi has reportedly apologized to El-Rufai for the embarrassment. Other prominent leaders and politicians from his home state of Kogi have allegedly tendered unreserved apologies and distanced themselves from the petition and the acts of the senator.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the petition, which formed the basis of the non-confirmation of El-Rufai, is the subject of a libel suit which the former governor instituted against the petitioner, one Gloria Mabeiam Ballason, from Southern Kaduna.

Again, contrary to the insinuation that El-Rufai had been banned from holding public office in Nigeria, independent checks have revealed that there is no such resolution. It was a mere recommendation of a Committee of the House of Representatives over 20 years ago. The recommendation has been quashed by a court of competent jurisdiction. Besides, El-Rufai has since become a two-term governor of Kaduna state with outstanding records of performance!

A source at the Senate said even the letter that the President of the Senate relied on to stop the confirmation of El-Rufai and others was not addressed to him. Rather, it was addressed to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) and signed by one Aminu Yusuf, a Director in the office of the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS). The President of the Senate was merely copied. This is against the protocols on Communication between the Executive and the Legislature which forbids the National Assembly from acting on any communication that is not signed by the President, much less one that was not addressed to it.

What has now emerged is that the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, working in cahoots with the Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, allegedly got a Director in the office of the DG, SSS, to sign the letter when the helmsman of the secret service purportedly refused to do the hatchet job.

Reliable sources alleged that Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Ribadu and Gbajabiamila feel threatened by El-Rufai, especially if he is able to deliver on the task. They do not want him to serve in the government and succeed because they are already planning for 2027 or 3031, as the case may be and they see him as a potential threat to their aspirations.

They are also being allegedly propelled by other forces outside the government.

Some stakeholders in the Power Sector who have been paid between N2billion and N3billion as subsidies for electricity are afraid that with El-Rufai coming onboard, the free money will stop.

They allegedly lobbied the President not to make El-Rufai the Minister of Energy because they contributed to his campaign.

There are political foes like Shehu Sani and some elements in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and even some sponsored Muslim clerics are allegedly part of the gang up.

On Tuesday, it was said that El-Rufai requested to see the President. When they met and El-Rufai expressed his reservations about all that happened, the President reportedly asked for 12 hours to investigate the matter and resolve it. On his part, El-Rufai allegedly said 24 hours was ideal given the President's busy schedule.

It was 24 hours on Wednesday, 9th August, 2023, when the media reported that El-Rufai was at the Presidential Villa to meet with the President.

The meeting, it was gathered, was actually for the team assembled by El-Rufai to make a presentation to the President on their activities and plans to reform the power sector. But surprisingly, at the meeting, the President allegedly began to query some of the things they had agreed on weeks ago about the bringing of Gas under the same roof with Power and to be renamed the Federal Ministry of Energy and other reform initiatives. It seemed the appointing authority has had a change of mind. Hence, all the avoidable drama that dogged the screening and confirmation.

At the end of the meeting, a source at the Presidency said El-Rufai asked the President if he could see him one-on-one in respect of the other matter that the President said he would get back to him on.

The President reportedly said he needed to see some persons who were waiting for him and that the Director of Protocol would call him to schedule a meeting. The meeting has not held. But, sources close to the former Kaduna state helmsman say he is already at the verge of rejecting the ministerial offer.

As a prelude, El-Rufai has reportedly submitted the Curriculum Vitae of a senator from Kaduna state as a replacement for him since Kaduna state has no representative in the soon-to-be composed Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Sources hinted that the former Governor of Kaduna state has since jetted out of the country to ward off pressures from party stalwarts and concerned Nigerians who are worried about the turn of events, wondering how those who lobbied him to come and serve would turn round to rubbish his enviable public records!

But sources say, whatever is the case, the bulk stops on the President's desk.

"If he really means well and wants El-Rufai to deliver for him on constant power supply, he knows what to do to get him confirmed as it happened in the case of Festus Keyamo.

"Recall that during Obasanjo's administration, El-Rufai had an issue with the lawmakers when he alleged that some of them were demanding bribe from him. Obasanjo intervened and the matter was resolved and the Senate cleared him," one of the sources said.

It remains to be seen what the President would do in the next couple of days: to keep his words or pander to inanities and thereby sacrifice proven competence and capacity.

PoliticsLove For My People, Reason Behind My Sterling Performance - Adekoya by Vibrant007(op): 8:36am On Jun 16, 2023
A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the immediate past House of Representatives member for Ijebu-North / Ijebu-East / Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid has attributed his remarkable delivery of developmental projects in his constituency to his love for birthplace and people.

Adekoya who is popularly called "Attacker" has been on a projects facilitation spree, despite not currently enjoying the perks of office.

The ex-Rep member disclosed this to newsmen in his Ago Iwoye residence recently.

The immediate past Deputy Minority Whip of the Federal House of Representatives said his vision is to make his constituency compete with the world's best cities in terms of infrastructure.

According to him, service to the people is an opportunity he relishes, adding that he has performed creditably well in the two terms of his legislative experience.

He noted that spending time with his people is what drives him to do more for his community.

"I was born by farmers in a village. I grew up there. I was more than 10 years old before I knew Ijebu-Ode township. I grew up in a large family setting. I experienced life as it were. That communal spirit was instilled in me growing up."

"I travel a lot. Anytime I see any good thing, I always pray to Allah to be able to replicate same for my community. I have built Churches, despite my faith as a Muslim. I love staying with people. My family are living abroad and despite entreaties for me to stay there, I just can't live outside the comfort of my birthplace. I, Attacker, can't stay abroad for one month without being in Ago Iwoye. How would I live without hunting in Ago Iwoye? I hunt a lot. I have my rifle and also belong to hunting associations. I can't do all these freely in the abroad. My point is, I am too attached to my community. If I stay out of Ago Iwoye for a month, I will fall sick."

"What drives me is the love for my people. I love staying here in Ago Iwoye. There is this joy when I get something done for my people. It is an opportunity to serve and I relish it a lot. Even without being in office, we still have to do our best for our constituency. It's also a way for me to appreciate God's grace on my life. God has been very good to me."

When quizzed on his plans after office, Rt. Hon. Adekoya said he would return to his farm."

He said "I'm a farmer. I am retuning to my farm here in Ago Iwoye. I have done my best for my constituency. We have facilitated projects that have left people in disbelief. We have markets, light poles, ultra modern toilets, health centers, religious centres, town halls, schools, town roads, maternity hospitals, all within the federal Constituency."
