Former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio, has said part of the reasons he decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was to help President Muhammadu Buhari fight corruption and poverty.
The senator while speaking after the APC caucus meeting which held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja last night, the former Senate minority leader, Akpabio said President Buhari is an infectious personality, who is still very relevant in the current political dispensation.

I appreciate and commend your unending partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Police Command towards the fight against crime and criminality in the State and the professional manner in which you balance your crime reports.

The Command under my watch has recorded another great breakthrough in her fight against criminal elements in the state. Yesterday, being the 23rd day of August, 20018, at about 5 pm, five notorious armed robbers, led by Kingsley Peter, a.k.a “Morale” who is the gang leader, using three motorcycles robbed some persons along Aba road by Ikot Osurua before proceeding to a banking area along the same road to dispossess ATM customers and shops owners.
My men of Ikot Ekpene Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Benjamin Achegbani, trailed and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce shootout, four of the armed robbers were shot dead while one Akwaowo Daniel Umoren (m) of Ikot Inemme in Essien Udim Local Government Area was arrested with an AK47 with 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. President Mohammadu Buhari in Abuja today assured Theresa May (UK Prime Minister) of his commitment towards conducting free, fair and credible elections in 2019. In a meeting with the visiting Prime Minister, he welcomed UK’s support at strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
‘‘I assure you that I’m all out for free, fair and credible elections. I’m very pleased that my party is doing very well. The High Commissioner will brief you more. The recent successes in polls in Katsina, Bauchi, and Kogi have boosted our morale greatly. Nigeria has accepted multiparty democracy and that is putting politicians on their toes, forcing them to work harder,’’ he said.
On the anti-corruption campaign, the President applauded the British support to the country, noting that the success of the fight was very important to ordinary people in the country.
“We had great opportunities and resources between 1999 and 2014, due to high oil prices. But when we came in 2015, oil prices plunged to as low as 37 dollars per barrel. What we have been doing since 2015 is to focus on infrastructure development, despite low earnings. Work is ongoing in roads, rail, power, and many others.”

On Brexit, President Buhari noted that it provides an opportunity to strengthen the historic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
‘‘We are nervously watching the development about Brexit because we know that the relationship had been on for a long time. I assure you that I am prepared to strengthen the relationship between our two countries.’’

The Police Command in Enugu State has commenced investigation into an incident that led to a 24-year-old man committing suicide after an overdose of marijuana.
Spokesman of the command, SP. Ebere Amaraizu, made the announcement in Enugu today saying the incident happened on August 22nd at Ameke Village in Enu-Oduma Community in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

SP Ebere identified the dead man as Ebube Chukwu. He said thatEbube Chukwu was reported to have committed suicide after taking his usual and hourly wraps of marijuana.
He had this to say:

“It was gathered that the victim had allegedly committed the act by hanging himself on top of a tree inside a forest at Obokolo, which is between Amorji and Ameke Oduma. It was further gathered that the victim was always in the habit of smoking marijuana, which may have caused the unfortunat...
