It is the network provider that causes all these cases of mistaken identity.

They'll sell a line to someone and he will link his NIN, then a few months later they will sell that same phone number to another person, that one will use it to commit crime and police will go after the person whose NIN is on the line.

Once a NIN is linked to a phone number you own it for life regardless of whether you use it or not, since the law says only 1 nin can be attached to a phone number.

One of these days I go still sue MTN for a huge sum. They did that illegality to me and my MTN line. The person they sold it to tried to link his NIN and it was flagged.
