President Buhari yesterday announced the withdrawal of Ahmed Ibeto from his ministerial list. He has now replaced him with Abubakar Bawa who is also from Niger state. Read his CV below...

Abubakar Bawa Bwari popularly called (ABB) by admirers was born on 4th November 1963 in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State. Politics / Read 16 Unforgettable Quotes From Fashola's Screening Today by Vicky72(m): 5:46pm On Oct 14, 2015

Former Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola appeared before the senate this morning for screening.

As expected, the former governor was eloquent and the senators hung on his every word like school children. At a point it seemed like Fashola were lecturing the senators, rather than a screening exercise.

Read 16 quotes which I find most remarkable.

”I cannot claim credit for my success in Lagos State”

“I felt responsible for every citizen who was robbed”

”We can redress political abuses, but cannot recover a life already lost”

”Nigeria has about 500,000 standing policemen. We are under-policed”

“The concept of loyalty is a very strange one. My prayer is that ‘may our loyalties never be tested.”

”As Governor of Lagos I didn’t sign cheques. I’ve never signed cheques, I didn't fix contract prices. Only training I have is as a lawyer”

“Nobody has alleged that I wrongly enriched myself”

‘I have remained loyal to causes I signed to. I stand by my word’

“Nobody can fairly accuse me of giving my word and going back on my word”

“The unfortunate thing about money is that it raises suspicion, even among brothers”

“Government should not get involved in needless disputes”

”The choices we make define the result we get”

‘This nation has a lot of money outside its borders. Nigerians are investing more abroad’

“Those who want to benefit from the commonwealth must contribute to the common purse”

”The consequence to making the promises is the right to accountability”.

”The right to freedom is not absolute. It carries responsibility of not to be a nuisance”

Celebrities / Helen Paul: How Doughnuts And Soft Drinks Brought Me And My Husband Together by Vicky72(m): 8:12pm On Sep 20, 2015

Happily married mother of three, Helen Paul, has risen to be one of Nigeria’s most sought after comedians.

As I drove to her office located in Ogba, Lagos, that cloudy morning, I kept wondering what it would be like interviewing a comedienne. As I pulled up outside her office, I was excited and looking forward to chatting with a lady who has held Nigerians spell bound with her comic baby voice.

On this day, Paul was wearing a pair of trainers and a short dress which terminated just above her knees. Looking all sporty, she was flanked by her publicist, Bayo Adetu, as the pair met me at the gate of Helen Paul Theatre & Film Academy. I followed behind casually as we ascended a staircase and was ushered into a tastefully furnished office.

As soon as we settled down, Paul went down memory lane, recalling how she met and married her husband of five years.

“I met him through my boss where I was formerly working,” the comedienne popularly known as Tatafo says, a look of nostalgia in her eyes.

“He was a friend to my boss. While he always saw me as too playful and jumpy, I saw him as too stingy,” Tatafo continues, laughing.

According to Tatafo, the reason she thought her husband was stingy was that whenever he came to the office, he never bothered to buy anything for her and her co-workers unlike her boss’ other friends who were always generous.

“Those days when my boss’ colleagues came visiting, they always reached out to us when leaving. They gave us money which we used to buy doughnuts and soft drinks but my husband never gave us anything.

“He would just wave his hand and say ‘bye bye guys, take care of yourselves’,” she says, mimicking a stern and unfriendly male voice, adding, “So we always saw him as a selfish lawyer.”

Belling the cat

However, one day, Tatafo and her colleagues were up to the hilt and so she summoned all the courage she could and decided to confront him.

“On that fateful day, I summoned courage and as he was leaving, I told him, ‘sir, you don’t buy us anything any time you come but we really like you. If you can be buying us doughnuts and soft drinks, we would be very grateful’. He started laughing, so I quickly added, ‘sir, it’s not only me o. My colleagues are also involved, so please don’t tell our boss’.”

Indeed, Tatafo’s move paid off as her future husband laughed it off after which he reached into his pockets and gave them ‘something’ for lunch.

“We were so happy I asked for his phone number which he gave me. And then I gave his number to my friends and we all started calling to thank him. He realised that we really desired the doughnuts and soft drinks so whenever he came by, he would give us money for doughnuts and soft drinks. He never failed to deliver whenever he showed up and we never stopped thanking him. And then one day, he took a good look at me and said ‘baby, I love you’ and the rest is history.”

By 2009 it finally dawned on the both of them that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. That same year, the couple had their traditional wedding, and the following year, a church wedding. Today, the union is blessed with three kids.

However, five years down the line, what is that thing the comedienne would want to do differently if she had a second chance at marriage?

Hear her: “I would have loved to give birth to triplets instead of having to visit the labour room thrice. If I was doing triplets, I would have nine kids by now. I love children so much.”

But then, is Tatafo done having kids? “I really don’t know o,” she responds waving her hands expansively. “Because my body is still very soft.”

Helen Paul Theatre & Film Academy

Are you dreaming of becoming a comedian, actor or actress? If that’s your dream then the place to be is Helen Paul Theatre & Film Academy.

On why she floated the academy, Paul has this to say: “The love for impacting people, connecting with people, making people feel impeccable and building or boosting their ego is what inspired me to start this school. Helen Paul Theatre & Film Academy is all about raising impeccable stars.

“When I was at the University of Lagos, I discovered that most people just wanted to come to UNILAG but not everybody could make it. That ignited in me the passion to want to create an opportunity for those who cannot make it to UNILAG and today the rest is history.

“There was this guy who came to our academy who couldn’t speak English but Yoruba. We took him on and let him know that theatre did not start from the English speaking part of Nollywood. It started with the likes of Ogundes and Ogunmolas. In fact, I told him I prefer Yoruba films to English and that he could be like any of the great Yoruba actors. Then he confessed to me that he wanted to act in Yoruba films and by the time we started following him up, we realised he had so much potential.

“We took the English lesson gradually and today he speaks very well; in less than six months. These days, when he talks in class, people no longer make jest of him because we have built his confidence. The school is barely a year old.”

It was the 17th birthday of Omotola's son and one of the youngest music producers in Africa on the 20th of August. Captain E got a surprise birthday party despite not expecting one. His father captain Ekeinde who had also been away for over 2 weeks on his flight simulator, flew in that day to attend his surprise party. The biggest surprise of the night however, was Mastercraft and DeLB as he had always told everyone that Mastercraft is his best music producer to meet. Legendary producer DelB who has been a mentor to CaptainE then made this happen. See the photos after the cut..

Politics / I Do Not Have An Account With A Bank In Minnesota, USA - Amaechi by Vicky72(m): 5:25am On Aug 22, 2015

Below is a press statement from former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi denying claims in that he operates an account with an unnamed bank in Minnesota, USA. The press statement was released by his media aide, David Iyofor. Read it below...
Our attention has been drawn to fake stories making the rounds on the Internet and social media about former Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. The stories are all what they are- concocted and failed attempts to ridicule the person and achievements of Rt. Hon. Amaechi. Our initial reaction was to ignore them, but to clear the doubts of those concerned we have decided to issue this statement.
There is absolutely no truth in fabricated story saying Amaechi has an account with a Bank in Minnesota, USA; same as the concocted write-up alleging that CNN’s Christiane Amanpour accused Amaechi of corruption. They even went ahead to say Amaechi wrote to Bancorp and another bank in Switzerland stating that the said funds were deposited in error. This is absolutely false.

It is important for the public to note that no such account or accounts exists. There is also no story of Amanpour linking the former governor with any corruption issue or case whatsoever, not on CNN or any verified news source or website associated with Amanpour.

These are all lies, concocted in an attempt to put the public against the acclaimed people’s governor whose achievements as governor of Rivers State speaks volumes and drew admiration and accolades from within and outside Nigeria.

All these fictitious stories are the product of the ill imaginations of wicked and unscrupulous people opposed to Amaechi; those jealous and at unease with his continued rise in the country and beyond; those whose life ambition is to pull-Amaechi-down.

We therefore urge the people to discard and disregard the unfounded rumours. They are all fake..

Celebrities / I Didn't See The Collaspe Of My Marriage Coming - Doris Simeon by Vicky72(m): 1:24pm On Aug 21, 2015

It is no news Doris Simeon's husband has moved on with Stella Damasus and they now live in the USA with Doris' son.The actress had tried severally to have her son back in Nigeria to no avail. In a chat with encomium ,she talked about life after the breakdown of her marriage ...

How do you feel not having your son, David, in your custody?
No mother will be happy if her child is not with her. But then, that’s still my private life just like I keep saying, and I am dealing with it.

Do you really miss him?
Definitely, yes. Why won’t I miss him?

How would you feel if there could be a kind of reconciliation between you and your ex, at least for the sake of the child?

Just like I said, everything concerning that is my private life, and I want to keep it private.

Let’s get one picture clearly between you and the father of your child, are you divorced or just separated?

We’re still in court. So, I don’t want to talk further on that.

So, the court is yet to decide on the case?
Yes!

How old is Doris now?
I am in my 30s.

Why don’t you want to disclose your real age?
That’s Nigerian women for you. So, get used to it.

What do you think actually informed the collapse of your marriage apart from all the allegations and counter allegations between the two of you? Did you see it coming?
Nobody will ever want his or her home to collapse. So, why will I see that and still go into it.

How do you feel about the whole situation?
No one will be happy when one is heart broken or one has a broken home. I don’t like dwelling on the past or crying over spilled milk. What concerns me most is focusing on my future and whatever it is I need to do at the moment.

Politics / 6 Things About Lagos That People From Other Cities Exaggerate About by Vicky72(m): 4:52pm On Aug 20, 2015
Lagos is a famous and glittering city, abundant in natural beauty and surrounded by sea, with its diverse culture, happy-go-lucky attitude, economic growth, and superb accommodation, it is no surprise that the city is Nigeria’s most dynamic city. Lagos offers a great variety of attractions – there’s plenty to see and do in this city, no wonder most people prefer to live in the city.

Lagos is one place in Nigeria that has got affluence and glamour, much more like Miami and New York City. However, people from other Nigerian cities believe that the glitz and glam attractively presented about Lagos too good to be true or are not real at all. We’ve also heard people say that no matter how amazing Lagos is being portrayed, it is a perilous place to live.

However, we believe a lot of things about Lagos have been exaggerated, that is why we have rounded up a list of 6 things about Lagos that people from other cities exaggerate about:

1. Lagos is a land of opportunities

Lagos is indeed a land of opportunities for many Nigeria. It is a city where a hardworking pauper from Makoko slum turns into someone living in one of the most expensive people in Lekki or Victoria Island. However, do not jump the next bus to Lagos expecting to be rich overnight if you have no plan, house and support from friends or family because Lagos is not as easy as it is made to be. Money does not grow on trees in Lagos because you have to work to earn a living. Unfortunately, jobs are limited in Lagos.

2. The legend of Area boys

You must have heard a lot of stories about the thugs in Lagos, who are called ‘Area boys’; thanks to some Nollywood movies. These exaggerated stories drive fear in the mind of people visiting Lagos for the first time. Even though, these thugs are virtually everywhere, but do not expect to be harassed by them just like that. We are not saying that they are harmless but it is only when you end up at the wrong place that things may get ugly for you. The availability of Lagos Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) can help you avoid the discomfort of bus conductors in some parts of the city.

3. Lagos is ‘small London’

Lagos is filled with colourful architectures and iconic landmarks that have this seductive charm that perfectly blends with the wide span of clean roads. The city is home to one of the richest and the most impoverished areas in Nigeria. It is not every part of Lagos that looks heavenly; some parts such as Ajegunle, Makoko, Ijora Badia and others, are shanty towns, sweat shops and slums. Most of the stunning things you see on newsprints or television about Lagos may have been edited to suit the producers.

4. The cost of living is expensive

Lagos is an attractive destination, decorated with affluence and luxury but it can be surprisingly cheap. You can get things – from sophisticated to standard, extravagance to essential, bohemian to natural. The cost of living in Lagos may be on the high side when compared to cities like Akure, Ibadan or Benin. However, Lagos is not as expensive as we are made to believe it is. The city has been built in such a way that anyone can easily blend in. Surprisingly, you can even do a lot of things under N2000 in Lagos.

5. The crime rate is high

Do not be carried away with stories that everyone in Lagos has criminal tendencies. Some people have been warned never to ask for directions when they are in Lagos but end up getting missing. The crime rate in Lagos is not as high as it has been exaggerated. Actually, security is paramount in the city to allow crime to rule the day.

6. Traffic Jam is unbeatable

You cannot come to Lagos and miss traffic (‘go-slows’). We know that almost every motorway is often jammed with absurd traffic hams and speed freaks. It is not true that you are going to spend half of your day stuck in traffic if you do not leave your house early in the morning. The menace of traffic is gradually losing its grip, thanks to BRT lane and the train service that have made it easier for people to escape the Lagos traffic. Traffic is not as horrible as it has been painted in Lagos; all you need to do is know your route and how to move around.

Crime / Court Jails Fuel Station Owners For Illegal Oil Transactions by Vicky72(m): 7:26am On Aug 20, 2015

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the arrest of 2 fuel station owners, Lookman Onabanjo and Lukman Gafan, for allegedly dealing in petroleum products loaded from vandalised pipelines.
50-year-old Onabanjo and Gafan, 52, are the Chief Executive Officers of Gaffa Oil and Gas Limited and Bugon Oil and Gas Limited, respectively.

The 2 were remanded shortly after their separate arraignment before Justice Mohammed Yunusa.
Arraigned and also jailed along with Onabanjo were Sani Idris, 34, and Bode Jonah, 39.
One Solomon Afolabi, 30; and Adesimisola Ogunsanya, 36, were also arraigned along with Gafan and remanded with him.
In the charge filed against Onabanjo and his co-accused, the police prosecutor, M.O. Omosun, alleged that the accused were, on August 15, 2015, caught with 16,000 litres of petrol loaded in several 50 litre jerrycans.

According to Omosun, the petroleum product which the accused dealt in belonged to PPMC and they did so without appropriate licence.

The petroleum product was said to be worth N1.55m.

The prosecutor said Onabanjo and others violated Section 3(6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 of the Revised Edition, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, Act, 2007.
He added that they were liable to punishment under Section 17(b) of the same Act.
Onabanjo and others, however, pleaded not guilty.

In the case of Gafan, the prosecutor accused him and his alleged accomplices of illegally loading 25,000 litres of petrol from a vandalised pipeline into a Mercedes truck with number plate APP 04 QX.

According to the prosecutor, the accused loaded the said quantity of petrol, valued at N1.6m, without obtaining lawful permit from the Pipeline and Product Marketing Company, which owned the petroleum product.

They were said to have committed the same offence on August 15, 2015 in violation of Section 3(6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 of the Revised Edition, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, Act, 2007.

Gafan, Ogunsanya and Afolabi, pleaded not guilty, the prosecutor urged the justice to remand them in prison pending trial.

“My Lord, in view of the plea of the accused persons, we will humbly be asking for a short adjournment date to bring our witnesses to court. We are also asking that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody,” Omosun said.
But the counsel for the defendants, Mr. McAnthony Aikharialea, filed a bail application for them and urged the court to grant it in liberal terms.

Justice Yunusa adjourned till August 28, 2015 to rule on the bail application.

Adesanya told Punch:

A lot of people do not have genuine intentions. As a person, sometimes the pressure is so much that it would make you wonder what the clamour is all about. I believe that when something is good and nice, people would want to be a part of it. I may look sweet and sexy but I am ‘old school’ when it comes to dating. I look before I leap. I know where I am coming from and I have learnt a lot. I know my onions and when men approach me for a date, I know how I handle them; I have a defence mechanism for them

I cannot say I am not open to love because I have not seen it all and I believe that the best is yet to come. I can fall in love but I am not searching. I get a lot of advances from men and it is even worse now with social media as people can easily reach you. All they need to do is to call you on Facebook. I will not lie, it is very crazy.

Sometimes I feel guilty about my butts and the way men lust after them. I was once walking by the New Town road in Accra and one guy driving a vehicle looked at me till he almost caused an accident.
I felt bad about it. My pastor told me I can attract men with my butts and preach to them about God to accept Christ in their lives...

Health / Houseboy Injures Spinal Cord Peeping At Madam Bathing by Vicky72(m): 4:05am On Aug 16, 2015

A 26-year-old domestic worker, Ubong Etu Nbomang, has injured his spinal cord while peeping at his female boss while she was having her bath.

He has been hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State, after falling and breaking his spine.

His boss is a top federal civil servant in one of the neighbouring states. The houseboy was alleged to have made holes around the bathroom door, through which he peeped at his boss whenever she was having a shower.

Our correspondent learnt that Nbomang had climbed on a platform to have a vantage view of his boss who is in her 30s.

A female friend to Nbomang’s boss, was said to have walked in and met nobody in the sitting room.

On hearing the sound of dropping water, she approached her friend’s bathroom out of curiosity, only to find the young man peeping.

The boss’s friend, (name withheld), who spoke to our correspondent after the incident, said as Nbomang was peeping, he held his private organ.

The guest, who trades in cooking utensils at the Ogbeogonogo Modern Market, said she shouted at him: “Nbomang, are you peeping at your madam?”

Nbomang, jumped off where he was and slipped on the wet tiled floor when he heard the visitor’s voice.

The unsuspecting boss, who was shocked by her worker’s groans, was said to have rushed out of the bathroom half-naked.

Her friend, while speaking to our correspondent, said, “I said to her: ‘So, you are not aware he has been here watching you as you were busy having your bath? I met him peeping, after asking for who was in the house without any response. I have been here for more than 15 minutes now without him knowing.”’

As she was telling her friend all these, Nbomang, still groaning in pains, asked his boss to forgive him and take him to hospital.

“Out of pity, the madam called her driver to take Nbomang to a hospital, while she later joined them at the hospital,” her friend added.

Speaking with our correspondent at the FMC, the boss, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said she was going to sack him.

She said, “Before now, I used to see him looking at me but I didn’t think otherwise because I saw it as nothing. It was when he was confessing that I got to know that he was the one that bore tiny holes on my door, which until this incident I never knew of.”

Nbomang, who also spoke to our correspondent from his hospital bed, pleaded, “Help me beg my madam, na devil work. Na my madam beauty deceive me.”

Authorities of the hospital told our correspondent that the injury could be treated.
