The General Overseer of Royalty Christian Centre, Pastor David Adeoye, and his wife Sunmbo Adeoye, who is an entrepreneur, music minister and public speaker, talk about their ministries and the intricacies of their marriage

How old is Royalty Christian Centre?
We are 18 years old. We started in 1998 as a church. Before the church was born, we ran outreaches and fellowships for about two years.
So that people can learn from your example, how have you overcome some of life’s challenges?
I will be 46 in October and when I look back, I don’t know how I survived most of the things I have been through. I lost my dad when I was 25 and my mum died when I was 32. I lost my first wife about six years ago, so I have seen betrayal and dishonesty. One of the things that have really helped is that I trust absolutely in God. I always go back to God though His word and I always come out in a victorious manner. When I was to get married to my wife, the crisis that ensued was out of this world. It was the worst kind of noise I have ever heard in my life. I faced problems from my family and also the church. Only my friends did not give me problems. Everywhere I turned to, I was faced with criticism.
Why did you choose to remarry after the death of your first wife?
I was 40 when she died and this was a marriage that lasted for 13 years without a child, so my family, mentors and friends were eager to see me remarry. Initially, I never wanted to remarry and planned to adopt two children that would be cared for by a nanny. As time went on, I realised that plan was not going to work because about that time, the number of female worshippers in church was on the increase. Then, I knew that if I really wanted to play safe, I needed to remarry.
How did you manage the chaos that happened when you started dating your current wife?
When we lost my late wife whom everybody called mama, there was noise but it was sympathisers’ noise; but when I started dating Sunmbo, the noise changed to something else. It was horrible. Because I had a strong conviction in me that she was my wife, I did not care. People would call me almost every time to ask if I had seen what had been written about her in one magazine or newspaper. People feared that dating her and eventually getting married to her would destroy the church because worshippers had started to leave the church.
While I was battling this in my heart, I stumbled on a video of Joyce Meyer and that was how I got to know that she was a single mother who was in an abusive marriage before she met and married David Meyer, who had never been married before he met her. As soon as I watched that video, an inner voice told me that the way Joyce Meyer commended her husband is the same way the world would commend me by the time I am done with Sunmbo. We have been married for three years and I don’t regret getting married to her. Most of the people who kicked against me marrying her have come back to apologise.
How did you meet her?
Many people do not know that I have known Sunmbo as far back as 1998. She is a music minister and I had a brother who had a gospel rap group. She was the only girl among them. When she finished singing one fateful day, even my late wife commended her singing prowess. I never thought that we would one day get married. In fact, she was close to my late wife such that when she fell from faith during her dark days, my late wife played a major role in her restoration.
Unknown to most people, her past experiences became my greatest attraction. You can hardly find a man of God who married a single mother; most men of God married a virgin. Every time, the body of Christ in Nigeria preaches 2 Corithians 5:17 but do not believe it. I saw people run away from me because they felt I had embarked on a risky journey when I started dating Sunmbo.
Apart from ministering, what are your other interests?
I like to play table tennis, I like watching movies with my family. I am beginning to enjoy travelling and I love music.
How do you like to dress?
I like corporate wear. I like to dress in a simple manner and unlike my wife, I do not like too many colours but I try to wear incorporate colours into what I wear. One of the things marriage does to you is change you and I have had to embrace colours in my dressing.

Events / Festival Of India Rocks Lagos Island by vicky85(f): 12:06pm On Aug 19, 2016
Lagos Island literally came to a standstill on Saturday 13th of August 2016, in what has been described by observers as “the most colourful parade” ever to grace the streets of Eko – with 3 towering, exquisitely decorated Chariots and dozens of troupes representing different regions of India and Nigeria.

The massive, over two thousand-member, kilometre-long Chariot parade started around 11am from CMS bus stop and ended up at Tafawa Balewa Square, the venue of the International Fair and Concert.

The International Fair with over one hundred bustling stalls had a variety of exhibitors ranging from telecoms giants MTN and Airtel, Z-World, Indomie, GTB to local micro and small enterprises nominated by the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce to show case their products and meet potential customers.

Exotic saris and beautiful Indian jewelry were in high demand by fashion conscious Nigerian ladies and the stalls made brisk sales.

It was a very unique, wholesome family fiesta as the various exhibitors provided various attractions to see, hear, taste and touch!

The Concert was the icing on the cake – it started in the afternoon with stage performances from various Indian associations in Nigeria. Nigerians like Yamuna, Maharani and the group called Light Years astonished the audience with their expert Indian dance moves.

Rising Nigerian star Aditi sung a couple of inspirational pieces from her newly released CD album 'Enchanted' while Indian-born Vihangam Pandey further stunned the crowd when he masterfully did a rendition of some popular Nigerian hit songs – effectively proving that he “loves Nigeria!”
Top Bollywood and Nollywood artists like Anup Jalota, Yuvika Chaudary, Pasuma, Sammy Okposo, Tee Mac, Ara kept the thousands of guests at the concert dancing for hours till midnight when organizers had to tell the still partying crowd – “Thanks for staying for so long at this maiden event, the best is yet to come – see you at the FestiVal again next year.

Nairaland / General / Oil Extends Gains Above $44 On Output Freeze Hopes by vicky85(f): 11:19am On Aug 15, 2016
Oil traded above $44 a barrel in Asia Monday, extending gains on hopes crude producers would agree to freeze output at a meeting next month, easing a stubborn global supply glut.
Saudi Arabian oil minister Khalid al-Falih’s comments last week that producers could discuss action to stabilise markets lifted market sentiment, helping prices rebound since closing below $40 a barrel and tumbling into a bear market earlier this month.
Any agreement to curb production would help rebalance the crude oil market, where output has been running ahead of demand, analysts said.

At around 0620 GMT, US benchmark West Texas Intermediate for delivery in September was up 39 cents, or 0.88 percent, at $44.88 a barrel and Brent crude for October gained 36 cents, or 0.77 percent, to $47.33.
Both contracts rose more than six percent last week following the Saudi minister’s remarks.
“Oil is now close to an equilibrium price, and unless we get further developments, I would expect to see it trading around the $44 to $45 level for the balance of the week,” Michael McCarthy, a chief market strategist in Sydney at CMC Markets, told Bloomberg News.
“It wouldn’t surprise me to see a little bit of pressure as some investors lock in some of the gains they’ve made.”
Some analysts, however, have cautioned against putting too much hope on an output freeze, noting that previous talks earlier this year have resulted in disagreement.
“An agreement is still improbable,” research house Capital Economics said in a market commentary.
It said most oil-producing nations are already churning out crude barrels close to their capacity and any accord to limit output “is unlikely to accelerate market rebalancing by much”.
A monthly report from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries showed Saudi Arabian oil production was at nearly 10.5 million barrels per day in July — a record high, above peak levels seen the same time last year.
CMC Markets’ Singapore-based analyst Margaret Yang said “it remains to be seen how far this optimism (about an output freeze) could lead the crude rebound”.
OPEC’s informal meeting will take place on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum in Algeria from September 26 to 28, ahead of a planned meeting due at the end of November.

Celebrities / "Nigerians Would Rather Sponsor A Secular Song Than Gospel Song"-oba Ara by vicky85(f): 12:54pm On Jul 10, 2016
Gospel singer, Rotimi Onimole, is in the concluding stages in the preparation of his 20th anniversary.” In a chat with Justpye writer, the singer stated that it was sad that some established gospel singers at times don't aassists he upcoming ones, he also expressed displeasure that Nigerians would rather sponsor a secular concert than Christian concerts.
Taking a trip down memory lane, the award winning singer who has been in the game for over 20 years, said that things have not always been rosy for his singing ministry.
He said, “I am thanking Almighty God for the journey so far, I have been through thick and thin in this industry. Things have not always been rosy for me especially when it comes to gospel music. The major hindrance gospel music faces is that people do not want to help gospel musicians and this is very discouraging. Also, it is not easy receiving songs from God, putting them together coupled with the fact that you don’t have enough money to go to the studio.
“Recently, I approached a senior colleague to perform at one of my monthly concert, I paid her and when she was about to start singing she said, we should switch off our cameras because she doesn't want to show in the video of the concert, if at all we are packaging it for sale. We pleaded but all afford prove abortive. I didn't release the video and it was a lose for me but I took it with good faith. Things are easier for secular musicians as they can easily find sponsors for their events but no one wants to put money down for a gospel show. I don’t know why they don’t want to promote the gospel of God. There were days I would go for three days’ church programme and sing my heart out and after the event, the organisers would just tell me to go home that they would send money to my bank account but I would never receive any alert. That is how I started; I was just managing in life until God decided to bless me. I bless God for bringing me to this level and I want to say a big thank you to Him and that is the essence of the concert I am staging in September.”
Speaking on his anniversary the singer told Justpye that the anniversary is aimed at thanking God for all he has done.
He also spoke on his forth coming award and performance at the All Heritages Broadcasters and Entertainment Awards (AHBEA) in Houston.
“ I would say that it takes the grace of God for good people to recognize your hard work and humanitarian spirit in the society. It is a privilege,” she said

Nigerian actress Joke Jigan appears to be enjoying fame and the lucks that comes with beauty lately, no doubt about that as she is seen to be the recent case study of nollywood.
It would be recall that the pretty actress showed off her fiance in January but rumours flying now is that the ‘Bisola yowon’ crooner has caught a big fish this time as she is been spotted with a nollywood fine and rich dude popularly known as neyoswaggz. The two seems to be keeping the relationship on a low key but you know, “what you dont want the
world to know about, just dont do”. The two uploaded a
picture on their social media instagram page at the same
time this afternoon. Just to tell the world something about
their love story. I guesstl this is part one.
The duo could not be reached as at press time to confirm the
speculations but lets keep the finger crossed.

Car Talk / Are You Kidding Me? No More Go-slow! Flying Cars Are Here!no Road Safety, LASTMA by vicky85(f): 9:55am On Jun 30, 2016
An article by Tony Ogunlowo
Flying cars – they used to be the stuff of science fiction movies where every day ordinary-looking cars sprouted wings, concealed jet-engines or ducted fans took off from a road and flew away.
For over eighty years inventors have been tinkering with the idea of a practical roadable aircraft. Some flew and some didn’t and a great many didn’t make it past the drawing board. The most successful of them all, then, which actually flew, was Moulton Taylors Aerocar of 1949; it drove like an ordinary car and had detachable wings which you towed behind and affixed them once you got to an airfield.Unfortunately, despite its popularity it never made it into production.

With a flying car it means you can take –off from an airstrip, close to your home, soar over the grid-locked traffic below, land close to your destination and drive the rest of the way.
Recently there has been a renewed interest in flying cars and the new concepts fall into three distinct categories:
1, Uses folding or retractable wings.
2, Uses fold-back rotors.
3, Is suspended beneath a para-foil or ‘oblong’ parachute.
Terrafugia Transition is a 2-seater roadable aircraft that has a pair of wings that fold along its sides. For flight operation the two wings unfurl like a jet-fighter on an aircraft carrier and a pusher propeller situated in the rear propels it forward. Its small enough to fit into a home garage and can go up to 110km/h on the road.
The Aeromobil 3.0 on the other hand has wings that retract into the vehicles body, like a beetle, for road operation. When it’s ready to fly the wings slide out, aided by hydraulic mechanism and it’s powered by a pusher propeller. In the event of a mishap a ballistic parachute lowers the vehicle and the occupants safely to the ground. This( – parachute) proved to be a lifesaver when a prototype suffered a fault in 2015 and crashed saving the life of the pilot with only minor damage to the vehicle.

The next class of flying cars such as the PAL-V uses rotors rather than wings to fly. Looking very much like a mini-helicopter it works on the principle of a gyrocopter; the rotors spin around freely as a result of the vehicles forward motion through the air rather than driven by an engine like a helicopter. To drive on the road the rotors are folded back manually and stowed away on top of the vehicle. The current 3-wheel PAL-V prototype has STOL capabilities, does 170 km/h on the road and up to 180km/h in the air. Using this concept, DARPA, the American research agency is developing a 4-wheel drive flying ATV called Transformer TX that will be able to ferry up to four troops in and out of battlefields.

The third category of flying cars is the easiest to build and fly. Based on the sport of powered para-gliding it’s basically a propeller powered dune buggy suspended beneath a large parachute. Very simple in concept all it needs to fly is forward motion to inflate the parachute canopy from which it is suspended. In 2009 a British team flew the Parajet skycar from London to Timbuktu on a 42-day expedition that took them through France, Spain, Morocco, across the Sahara desert to Mauritania and Mali flying all the way and only stopping to refuel or rest. The vehicle required very little maintenance and is currently available to buy.

Anyone wishing to procure a flying car in the not too distant future will have to have at least a private pilot’s licence in addition to a driving licence. Learning to fly them will require anything up to twenty hours of additional training that will be provided by the manufacturers. Flying them shouldn’t be too difficult to flying a plane as most of them will come with state-of-the-art-fly-by-wire systems that will make them, theoretically, un-crashable and easy to fly.

Classified as experimental aircrafts, users will be required to stay out of controlled airspace, built-up areas and flying at night will be forbidden.
So if you’re fed up of being stuck in ‘go-slow’ all the time why not get yourself a flying car(- if you can afford one!) and soar high above the traffic gridlock every day?

Politics / Forgery: Police May Arrest Ekweremadu, Others This Week by vicky85(f): 1:08am On Jun 19, 2016
There were strong indications over the weekend that the police might arrest the Deputy Senate President, Senator lke Ekweremadu, and some former principal officers of the 7th Senate this week.

The senators might be arrested for snubbing a police invitation to answer questions on their roles in the alleged forgery of the rules of the Senate in 2015
We gathered on Saturday that the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department, Garki Abuja, which is investigating the alleged forgery, was waiting for the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to approve the arrest of the principal officers.

A reliable source at the Force Headquarters confided in one of our correspondents that some senior police officers would meet over the issue at the beginning of the week. After the meeting, the investigation department would be asked to arrest the affected principal officers before the end of the week.

In July 2015, the police had invited some principal officers of the Senate over the alleged forgery of rules used for the election of Saraki, his deputy and the inauguration of the 8th Senate.

The police, in another letter dated June 7, 2016 and signed by Assistant Inspector General of Police, James Caulcrick, had requested the officials of the 7th Senate to report to the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Garki, Abuja, for the purpose of conducting further investigations on the fraudulent use of the Senate Standing Order 2015 (as amended) by the Senate.

In the letter, Caulcrick noted that none of the officials on the 7th Senate list had honoured an earlier invitation to respond to the allegations against them, except the Clerk of the National Assembly and that of the Senate.

Sunday PUNCH gathered that the planned arrest of the principal officers would be a prelude to the hearing of the forgery suit filed against some of them at a Federal High Court, Abuja.

The source told Sunday PUNCH that the police leadership had come to the realisation that they might have to apply “lawful force to compel obedience and cooperation” from the suspects.

He stated, “Since the suit has been filed, we will arrest the men if they fail to honour our invitation. We are only waiting for the go-ahead from the IGP. We are hoping to pick them up this week or before the hearing of the suit begins.”

Following a directive by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to the IGP the police had submitted the final report of their investigation to the Ministry of Justice for the prosecution of the affected officers.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Bisi Kolawole, could not be reached for comment as she did not respond to calls to her phone. She had yet to reply an SMS that was sent to her as of the time of filing this report

But Kolawole had, a few weeks ago, confirmed to one of our correspondents that the police had returned the case file to the AGF.

“I understand that the case file is in the AGF’s office that they are to charge the case to court from their end,” she had said in an SMS.

We have not received court papers — Saraki, Ekweremadu

When contacted, aides of the President of the Senate and his deputy said their bosses had yet to be served with the court process on the suit instituted against them by the Federal Government over the alleged forgery of the order used for their inauguration as presiding officers of the 8th Senate.

The Senate President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, and his counterpart in the Deputy Senate President’s office, Uche Anichukwu, who spoke in separate telephone interviews with our correspondent on Saturday, said their principals read the news in the media, like other Nigerians.

Olaniyonu, in his reaction, said, “We read the story just like any other Nigerian. We have not been served with any court documents so we don’t have the details. Whatever action that would be taken would be after studying the court papers on the suit.

“We cannot make comments on the issue at the moment but we are watching events as they unfold. We read newspaper reports about police inviting officers of the 7th Senate yesterday for questioning on the issue and today the story is different. Our reaction will come later.”

Anichukwu, the media aide to Ekweremadu, also said, “The deputy president of the senate read the story in the newspapers; we are waiting for details from those who filed the suit before we can react.”

However, a source in the office of Ekweremadu told our correspondent in confidence that some people who were under pressure from “some powerful people in the President Muhammadu Buhari government” were behind the suit.

The source said, “The police told reporters last year that Ekweremadu was not invited by the police over the forgery saga. However, a year after, the police wrote a letter claiming that Ekweremadu and others failed to honour their invitation for investigation since last year.”

In Charge No. CR/219/16 filed by the office of the Attorney General of Federation on 10th June, 2016, the Federal Government of Nigeria (complainant) slammed a two-count charge of “criminal conspiracy, contrary to Section 97 of the Penal Code Law” and “Forgery contrary to 362 of the Penal Code Law” against Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu.

Also charged to court were the immediate past Clerk to the National Assembly, Abubakar Maikasuwa, and the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Benedict Efeturi. Former senate president, Senator David Mark, and former Majority Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba were not charged.

members announced to everyone that burial plans for the
movie thespian in Lagos was cancelled.

Late Henrietta Kosoko was scheduled to be buried in at
the Atan Cementry, Yaba while the church service was to
take place at Regina Mundi Catholic church, Mushin
Lagos. All plans were changed on Thursday, June 9, as the
service of songs.
Confirming the report, one of the burial committee
disclosed to justpye via telephone converaation that Henrietta Kosoko’s family
made their intentions known that their daughter would not
be buried in Lagos the following day after she died
because Jide Kosoko had failed to perform all the
necessary marriage plans between them.
However, late Henrietta Kosoko’s family disclosed that in
Delta state their culture does not permit their daughter’s
to be buried outside the state especially when proper
marriage rites wasn’t done before her death.
However, many of her colleagues supported this idea
because Henrietta months back had a misunderstanding
with her husband which has made the two of them live
apart from each other until the point of death.
Due to this, the remains of Henrietta would be taken to
Delta state on Friday, June 10 alongside family members,
friends and loved ones.
