Hello Nairalander, I decided to share my piece with you before posting it on my website. Feel free to add your favorite top Nigerian producers for 2016..
In 2016, some Nollywood filmmakers and producers took risks, went for different and more complex stories, and made great films. It’s less than four weeks before the year 2016 comes to an end. We at Justpye media have put together a list of five producers who made outstanding films with good story that appealed visually and mentally to the audience. Check them out..

Number 5: Ayeloja by Sharafadeen Olabode

As Reviewed by many, let's take A Nairalander's review on Ayeloja.
If you are a fan of Yoruba movies, You may have come across the name Sharafadeen Olabode. He's a script writer and producer with so many blockbusters to his credits. I can not but watch his projects because he never fail to deliver.
Sharafadeen Olabode is one of them, If you have been following this young man right from his second film project "Ayekooto". That yoruba movie that won the highest numbers of awards at the 2012 Best of Nollywood Awards...Best Actor in a role(Yoruba), Best supporting Actor(Yoruba), Best Cinematography, and even went ahead to won Best Director and Movie of the year beating the likes of; In the cupboard, Phone swap, Adesua, Married but living single and Last flight to Abuja. For a Yoruba movie to have achieved such feat, then you should know Olabode is no joke.
The producer whose film titles always start with Aiye (World) has something special he's always preaching in his movies.
Ayeloja ...Which means "The world is a market place". Indeed it is. The movie which talks about reincarnation also reminds us that this world is vanity.
Ayeloja tells the story of Basit, played by Ibrahim Chatta, (The man that played Sunmonu in Kunle Afolayan's October 1) who died in an accident due to the carelessness in handling of prayers to avert death over his younger brother Khalid. Since it's not yet time for him to die..This took him to a new circle of existence In another human body with another Name Jimoh. He coincidentally meet with his father who took him back home. Though everyone seem surprised because he looks exactly like the deceased, the only different thing is that he speaks in a new accent and the mode at which he walks.
Ibraham chatta is a genius, this guy deserves an Academy award for this role. Playing two different characters brilliantly.
Ayeloja takes a closer look at the reincarnation thing and it came out well, We all know the bible and Quran do not support the reincarnation belief but it has been proven to happen from time to time; However, the wonders of God is mysterious.
The accident scene was beautifully executed. Thumb up to Hakeem Effects for the makeup.
Ayeloja is a nice piece except for few flaws though;
In one scene, we were made to understand that the reincarnates are humans, no difference between them and the real human beings as they do not know what one thinks about them and in another scene, The twin reincarnates were able to read someone's mind who thinks she knew them somewhere in Abeokuta, Ogun state before their death.
Also, there were few spelling errors in the subtitles and the scene where Mr Jimoh and his wife were dancing in the club took too long that my friend to asked if I was watching a musical video. Nevertheless, Kemi Afolabi is a good dancer. Also in the scene, Mr Jimoh almost forget his mode of walking as he dances. (End of The movie review)
We checked out the movie recently again and observed that, the review is accurate. Despite the short comings, Ayeloja sold 5million copies and the domestic gross as at the end of the year is about 53million Naira.
But, give it up to the writer and the producer of this movie in 2016, Sharafadeen"
Number 4: 76 by Adonaijah Owiriwa and Izu Ojukwu


'76, formerly Lions of '76, is a 2016 Nigerian historical fictiondrama film produced by Adonaijah Owiriwa and Izu Ojukwu and directed by Izu Ojukwu. It stars Ramsey Nouah, Chidi Mokeme, Rita Dominic and Ibinabo Fiberesima
Set six years after the civil war, a young officer from the Middle Beltgets into a romantic relationship with an O-level student from the South-eastern region. However, their relationship is strained by constant military postings. The soldier gets accused of being involved in the 1976 unsuccessful military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed, and the heavily pregnant wife, gets entangled in an emotional dilemma.
The historical account in '76 went through a seven-month approval period at the Nigerian Military before filming started. The film which is set in the '70s was shot in Ibadan, Oyo. The film has been in production for about five years.

Number 3: CEO by Kunle Afolayan


The CEO is a movie is full of intrigues and suspense which all begin after five top executives embark on a week-long business trip.
In Kunle Afolayan’s The CEO, top business executives from across Africa get entrenched in deadly rivalry, all in a quest to satisfy personal ambition.

The entire drama started when the executives arrived their destination for the business meeting and suddenly began to die one after the other through mysterious circumstances, leaving only two behind, a situation which led to suspicions.the pan-African movie starring Grammy award winner Angelique Kidjo; Nigeria’s Wale Ojo, and Hilda Dokubo; Kenyan actor, Peter King; Hollywood’s Jimmy Jean-Louis.
Who will survive the test of character, intelligence and passion to become The CEO?The domestic gross as at the end of the year is 60million Naira.

Number 2: Wives On Strike by Omoni Oboli


This advocacy movie written, Director/producer Omoni Oboli creates a funny and comical movie full of wit, and a meaningful message targeted at Nigerian citizens. “Wives On Strike” which was filmed two years ago should have no trouble finding an audience as the film adopts the use of Pidgin English which presents the dialogue of the actors in such a way everyone can understand it.
Kenneth Okonkwo who played Omoni's husband was extremely hilarious and dare, say this is one of his best roles till date, from wanting to “mount” his wife at the height of the strike and assuring her that no one would know to his many beer parlor scenes with Julius Agu, (One of the husbands)
Julius Agu, a comedian by trade also shone brightly in the movie, married to rebel leader and canteen owner Uche Jumbo, Julius tried to quench his “Konji” by patronizing ladies of the night who incidentally were on strike also.
“Wives On Strike" uses humour to pass across clear messages. It gestures at taking action against underage marriages and the need for women to speak up more. The Child Rights Act which was passed in 2003 is explained in a way Nigerians from all walks of life can understand it. Oboli could have produced this film as a deep drama instead she adopts a comical view in which as you roar with laughter watching the “Wives On Strike”, a powerful message about child-brides and standing up for what is right sinks into your consciousness. This movie was a brilliant attempt and it couldn’t have been timelier. It domestic gross as at the end of the year 67 million Naira

Number 1: A Trip to Jamiaca by Ayo Makun


A movie by popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun aka AY, has broken the record previously held by his 30 days in Atlanta movie to become highest grossing Nollywood/Hollywood movie in Nigerian cinemas.

The movie has also set a new benchmark in Nollywood as the first film to hit N35m in its first weekend and the first film to hit N62m in its first week.

Nigerian films have so far performed better in the box office in 2016. According to him, aside from Ay’s, A trip to Jamaica, Omoni Oboli’s Wives on Strike, grossed N67 million from cinema viewings. Other box office Nollywood hits include Kunle Afolayan’s The CEO which made N60 million (includes figures from Ghana.), Fifty – N44 million (January to March 2016 only) and Ghana Must Go – N32 million.
And now the domestic gross is 172 million Naira

The Temple Management Company and Hard Rock Cafe, Lagos Nigeria put this epoch event together having recognized and acknowledged the impact King Sunny Ade, a living kegend, has had on global music and the inspiration has given to so many artists, songwriters and producers in the Nigerian and African Music Industry
The induction took place at Hard Rock Cafe Lagos with stakeholders in the entertainment industry in attendance like The Mavin Record boss and his team, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Iyanya, Korede Bello, Dija and others. I spoke to the guitar before i started music that, this guitar should take me to places and make me happy, this guitar should bring out melodious tunes and here we are today, 30 years later, i still love my baby"

Stakeholders in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry have urged the Nigerian Government to provide structures to prosecute infringers of copyright laws – Pirates in the industry.
This was the demand at the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) – Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) Joint Entertainment Conference/Investment Summit in Abuja.
The theme for the Summit was “Investing In The Emerging Creative Economy.”
PMAN National President,‎ Pretty Okafor says the Nigerian Entertainment Industry which ranks 1st in Africa and 3rd in the world have refused to buckle up in the face of an increasingly gloomy economic climate.

“The Creative Industry is assessed to be able to generate N15 trillion annually, but however the industry loses N10.3 trillion or 85% to national and global piracy.
“Additionally, 3.7% is lost to uncollected earnings leaving 0.7% to the industry. FIRS is unable to collect N3.3 trillion or 20% of combined VAT and income tax for government.”
He said that the median age of PMAN members is 24 years with an approximately 12.5 million employees serving a consuming population between the ages of 15 – 54.
This according to him makes the Creative Industry the highest employer of labour in the country.
Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President, Emeka Ike on his part spoke on what he described as the sorry state of affairs in an Industry which could be a silver lining in the country’s economic cloud is still grappling with intellectual property theft.
He insists that the Registration and‎ Barcoding and Encoding of Creative Intellectual Property through the Biometric ID Card System will definitely go a long way to rid the nation of piracy.
“Diversification of the Nigerian economy ‎through the Creative Industry which can add N15 trillion to the country’s GDP through the encoding, barcoding initiatives, creative industry app,” he suggested.
Arguably one of the sectors of the economy and industry that has faced a perennial stunted growth, the Nigerian entertainment industry is still at its formative stage as an industry, largely because of what experts describe as lack of enabling environment for players to thrive.
The movie sector is still facing its worst enemy – piracy and the musical artistes are not
receiving their due royalties effectively making paupers out of hardworking men and women
who otherwise should be raking.

To say the least, the news did not only grossly misinform unsuspecting public; it also portrays traces of campaign of calumny by some mercenary hirelings hell bent in destroying my name, for reasons best known to them.
Having read with keen interest the completely self-serving spirited attempt to destroy my person, it has become imperative and timely that a rejoinder is written to state the fact clearly.
I want to state here categorically and [b]emphatically that though I was at Computer Village to address some issues, but I was never arrested for stealing 10 I phone 7s, as stated by the writer of the story, the matter has since been resolved by the Nigeria Police; and the issue of me stealing phone is devilish from the said writer.

Governorship hopeful under the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Eyitayo Jegede SAN has arrived ondo state and touched down at the border town of Isua Akoko, after weeks of being in Abuja to reclaim his mandate at the Appeal Court.

The Justice Ibrahim Salauwa led panel had deferred his judgment on Jegede's appeal challenging his unlawful substitution by INEC till when the Supreme Court rules next week Tuesday on a motion against the panel by the Ali Modu Sheriff led PDP.

Apparently, to assure his supporters that all hope is not lost with the Appeal Court's decision, Jegede stormed the state and was received by hundreds of enthusiastic supporters, party members and residents of Akoko at the Isua junction, boundary with Edo State.
The people chanted his name as well as several solidarity songs such as “After Iroko who be next?” restating their support for him for next Saturday's election not minding the ongoing litigation.
In a brief address, Jegede said he is always greatly encouraged by the rousing reception and solidarity assuring that collectively, they will soon triumph over all their negative forces.
" My driving force to forge ahead has been God and the unprecedented solidarity from you my people in spite of all adversaries that we contend with everyday. Very soon, we shall triumph because we unstoppable ". He said

Justpye News reports that, at Oka Akoko, where he made another stop-over, and was being cheered by a large crowd, Jegede advised the people to keep intact their permanent voters cards to enable them vote him, expressing optimism that the case in court will be over early next week.

"They keep asking us what makes us confident that we will contest, this election, we say we have God who rules in the affairs of men. By early next week, the Pharaoh we see today, we will see them no more.." Jegede declared to hundreds of elated supporters.
Jegede was also at Akungba, Ikare, Oke Agbe, Owo and other towns in the northern senatorial district of the state where he advised members to continue with their campaigns to enable him emerge victorious next week Saturday.

1. He is a Nigerian accountant and the 51st Ooni of Ife. He succeeded the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade who died on July 28, 2015.
