The Federal Government has scrapped the conduct of post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for candidates seeking admission into higher institution across the country.
Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said this on Thursday in Abuja after declaring open the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other institutions.

Adamu expressed confidence in the examination conducted by JAMB and added that there was no need for other examination to be conducted by universities after JAMB.
He said: “As far as I am concerned the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing.
The universities should not be holding another examination and if the universities have any complain against JAMB let them bring it and then we address it.
“If JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and they have conducted test then there will be no need to conduct another test for students to gain admission.”
The Minister also asked the JAMB to stop extra charges on several categories of changes on admissions such as the change of course, change of school and others.
Meanwhile, the JAMB has pegged the cut – off mark for admission for 2016 at 180.
The 180 benchmark, applies to all universities and higher institutions in the country, including polytechnics, colleges of education, and others

Rising actress decries high level of discrimination in entertainment Industry: "We Albinos are human beings like you"

Fast rising Nollywood actress, Ada Ossai, a member of the The Golden Movie Ambassadors of Nigeria and voice for the Albinos in a chat with Justpyenews said that, although people with albinism usually face discrimination in different forms, in the society, but the most difficult one is in entertainment industry where she belong, lamenting that some cannot secure jobs and employment even for positions they are qualified for.
Ada said, “We hear that people say that albinos find it difficult to get employment even when you are qualified for that position, it will be given to another person that is not an albino In entertainment industry, we have not seen an albino on billboard, in movies and other things that normal skin colored benefitting everyday".

Majority of men and women with albinism feel that they are the butt of rude jokes. They complain of being taunted in the community. They opined that taunting makes them feel unsafe and inferior. “They make offensive jokes which can be annoying, especially in the community. They also laugh at us sometimes when they see us approaching. We see how their countenance changes whenever they see us coming and how they always refer to us".
Ada noted that people with albinism in Nigeria endure a lot of daily social challenges, but they feel affected the most by the mockery and name-calling. She pointed out that the colour of their hair and skin is the reason why they are treated differently in the society.
Nigeria is estimated to have one of the highest albinism prevalence rates in the world, which is about 6 million. Children constitute about 40% of this population, spread across all the states in Nigeria. But despite this number, many persons with albinism living in Nigeria are either illiterate or poorly educated, mainly because of low vision impairment, discrimination and social exclusion, as a result of their skin colour.

Albinism is simply a recessive gene. By being recessive it is dominant in both male and female. It is an absent of melanin pigment, a chemical substance responsible for colouration. It is estimated that about one in 70 people carry a recessive gene for albinism and about I in every 18,000 people in the world have albinism condition.
For movie industry, the fast rising actress Amb. Ada Ossai urges filmmakers and other stakeholders to give albinos opportunity to showcase their talents, seeing them in movies, adverts and other aspect of the entertainment industry.
"I went to LASPOTECH recently and I saw a female albino aspiring to be a mass communicator".
We don't have albinos in broadcasting, I think it's not fair cause we have talented young albinos aspiring to be presenters" she said.

WIFE of popular comedian in Rivers state, Mrs Chime Mike Ogbolosingha has been kidnapped in Obio Akpor local government area of the state. The husband, Mr Mike Ogbolosingha told Newsmen that the gunmen stormed their Elenprawon residence on Sunday and abducted her. According to him, the kidnappers who were about six in number also went away with valuables in the house. He said the kidnappers had not established contact with any member of the family, pleading also that they should release his wife unconditionally. Mike Ogbolosingha He said he had alerted the Police of the ugly development. “About six of the kidnappers came to my house. I was coming back from Bayelsa when I got a call that my wife had been kidnapped. They broke into my house, took away every valuables and still went with my wife. I am begging for the release of my wife. The kidnappers have not called me or any member of the family since the incident on Sunday. They should please release my wife, I am begging those holding her”, Ogbolosingha said.

at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos-the venue of the event.
He said, "The procession will display an unprecedented,
colorful and very rich cross-cultural into Nigerian mix of
ethnic troupes which will promote bilateral synergy and
collaboration in various sectors-economic, cultural,
entertainment and diplomatic".
Co-Chairman of the Festival, Diwesh Mishra said, the festival
of India's stage will host the cream de la cream of Bollywood,
Nigerian superstars, internationally renowned traditional and
contemporary stars from India, Indian cuisine, fashion and
cultural as a whole.
Mishra said,the event will also witness dignitaries in the fields

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki arrived the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) without the usual array of senators in tow.
It was observed that he was not accompanied by any senator as he arrived the tribunal at 10:15am.
But two senators later joined him after 45 minutes.
This is the first time the senate president arrived “solo” at the tribunal.
In October 2015, at least 81 senators accompanied Saraki to the CCT. But the number kept plummeting afterwards.
On Wednesday, only two senators accompanied him to the tribunal.
Meanwhile, Danladi Umar, chairman of the CCT, will rule on Saraki’s application asking him to withdraw from the trial.
Saraki is facing multiple counts of false declaration of assets.

A former US senator will get remarried this week – to someone of a different s*x from his first spouse. Harris Wofford, 90, wrote an opinion article in the New York Times voicing strong support for same-s*x marriage. He said he felt lucky to live at a time when marriage had been “strengthened” in this way. Wofford said his life was “a story of two great loves” – with his wife Clare, who died of leukemia in 1996, and with Matthew Charlton, 40.

He wrote: ” I don’t categories myself based on the gender of those I love. I had a half-century of marriage with a wonderful woman, and now am lucky for a second time to have found happiness.” In June 2015, the US Supreme Court struck down same-s*x marriage bans in individual states, making gay and lesbian marriages legal across the country.
Clare was a strong influence through Wofford’s political career. The couple had three children together. Wofford, a Democrat, represented Pennsylvania in the US Senate between 1991 and 1995. He started his political life at the age of 18 by founding the Student Federalists, an organisation that promoted world federal government. He went on to become instrumental in the civil rights movement and joined the presidential campaign of John F Kennedy.
Later, he worked with Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Five years after his wife’s death, Wofford met Charlton.
Wofford wrote: “Seeking to change something as deeply ingrained in law and public opinion as the definition of marriage seemed impossible. “I was wrong, and should not have been so pessimistic. “I had seen firsthand – working and walking with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – that when the time was right, major change for civil rights came to pass in a single creative decade.

A medical practitioner at Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja, Dr Arikawe Adeolu, on Monday, said women still menstruating after 50 years of age were still fertile.
He said that every woman was born with specific number of eggs which she loses during menstrual cycle.
He said that a woman could only enter the stage of menopause when all the eggs were exhausted, adding that this usually occurred between the age of 45 and 55 years.
According to him, menopause is a situation where the hormones responsible for the menstrual cycle is no longer present because the ovaries have exhausted their egg reserve.
``Women within this age range can begin to experience the signs and symptoms of menopause which can include irregularities in sleep pattern, light or heavy menstrual bleeding or frequent heart palpitation.
``Some women may experience hot flashes that is heat within the body which lasts for a short time. All the signs and symptoms last for a year before menopause fully sets in.
``During menopause, there is dryness of the vagina, causing a drop in libido because of the absence of the eostrogen and progesterone hormone.
``When menopause begins to set in, some women experience mood swings, feeling of excitement, anger and so on but all these
are temporary. The body adjusts and the symptoms reduce or end.''
Adeolu advised women who entered menopause before the stipulated age to seek medical help and guidance, adding that
various factors could lead to early menopause such as premature ovarian failure.
He noted that ``women who had their wombs removed could experience early menopause.
``However, there are medications a woman can take to block the production of hormones which lead to early menopause.''
The medical practitioner advised women experiencing symptoms of menopause to approach the condition symptomatically.
``Address the problems one at a time because this symptoms will not last a life time; it is only for a short period of time because the body is trying to adjust to the changes," he said.

One Nneka Ifeoze, a 35-year-old housewife, has been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command for allegedly inflicting injuries on her 9-year-old house help.
Ifeoze had left her two two-year-old boy with her house help who allegedly assaulted him.
The woman returned home and upon seeing her son crying, she became angry and unplugged a pressing iron which she used to attack the victim, Oluebube Orji.
The incident happened on Sunday at about 8 am at No. 3, Ava Okocha Street in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Confirming the assault, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, said the woman was already in the custody of the police.
“The victim sustained burns and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention,” the PPRO noted.

Sahara Reporters have obtained the photos of the mansion Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state completed within months of assuming office. According to the online medium, the governor started building the edifice about four months after emerging as winner of the last gubernatorial election in the state. Sahara Reporters stated further that in an exclusive report on September 30, 2015, it had revealed that contract for the building project was awarded by the governor to VKS Construction Limited, a construction firm owned by one Onur Kumral, a Turkish national.
The Turkish national was also alleged to have aided the former governor, Godswill Akpabio in siphoning public funds and a source close to him reportedly told Sahara Reporters that, “Oliver Ebong and his company Olkem Nigeria Limited are fronts that was used by Godswill Akpabio, his brother Emem Akpabio and Mr. Don Etim to loot billions of naira of Akwa Ibom funds.

“What happened was that the former governor gave almost all the consultancy job for roads and other infrastructural projects and contracts of his government to Olkem Nigeria Limited which ran into several billions of naira. “The cost of the consultancy contracts were usually inflated and returns were made to the former governor, his brother and Don Etim. This fact was common knowledge within government circles.”
