Crime / 50 Years Old Man Impregnates His 17 Years Old Grand Daughter by Vickyiests2: 3:02am On May 25, 2013
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa on Thursday arrested a 50-year old hunter for allegedly impregnating his 17-year old step granddaughter in Dutse.

The NSCDC Commandant, Mr Muhammad Gidado, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspect was arrested over alleged incest.

Gidado said that the suspect, married to the girl’s aunt, committed the offence at Warwade community in Dutse.

He said parents of the victim had filed a complaint against the suspect following his inability to settle medical bills at the clinic where she was delivered of her baby. Gidado said the girl had undergone Caesarean section and had been suffering from anaemia due to pregnancy related complications.

He said the suspect had earlier accepted responsibility for the pregnancy when the family tried to settle the matter amicably but failed to take care of the needs of the mother and the new born baby.

“The girl’s parents decided to bury the matter within the family after the suspect accepted responsibility for the pregnancy but failed to settle the medical bills.

“The girl is receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Dutse, and her parents made a formal complaint to the command,” he said.

Gidado said the command has settled the medical bills because the parents could not afford to pay. The commandant said the suspect would be arraigned as soon as investigations into the case were completed.

Culture / Man Who Uses Hunman Hair For Ritual Caught In Ota, Ogun State by Vickyiests2: 10:00pm On Feb 22, 2013
A 60-year-old man yesterday narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob for allegedly selling human hair.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, Adewale Okunade, goes to salons to collect human hair in exchange for money.

It was learnt that the hair was being taken to an herbalist in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, who uses it to prepare charms for him. Some sources added that Okunade pays between N200,000 and N300,000 for each consignment of hair.
Okunade who hails from Oyo state, is a landlord of a house on Segun Olatunji Street, Ijoko, Ota, Ogun State.

Unknown to members of the community, Okunade had been involved in this appalling trade for some years but nemesis caught up with him on the fateful day when his ‘business partner’, a bricklayer, gave him away.
Speaking on the incident, an executive member of the Community Development Association said Okunade allegedly confessed that he had been buying human hair to cure himself of decaying sores on his leg.

However, the CDA executive told newsmen that many traditional medicine practitioners, who were there when Okunade was apprehended, said human hair could only be used for rituals not for curing sores.

“The suspect’s partner had gone to a barber in their neighbourhood to buy some hair. The barber, however, refused. The suspect sent his partner to go to the barber’s apprentice.
“When they got to the apprentice, he agreed, but unknown to them that the barber was monitoring their movement. The barber decided to lay ambush for them.
“When he (barber) saw them with a cellophane bag, he raised the alarm and many people in the neighbourhood were drawn to the scene. By the time they checked the contents in the bag, they saw plenty of human hair.

“That was how the community pounced on his partner and started questioning him about the source of the hair. It was in the course of that the partner said it was Okunade who sent him.
“The people moved to Okunade’s house but he was not around. When he came back and people related the incident to him, he left the community the following day.
“By the time he came back, he thought the residents would have forgotten about the incident, but when they saw him, they mobbed him. It was then he explained that he had sores on his leg that refused to heal and that he had been curing them with concoction mixed with human hair.
“The community, not satisfied with his explanation, decided to hand him over to the police at Sango Police Station” he said.
Spokesman for Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the story was twisted by the community.

Adejobi said, “The story was not like that. The man (Okunade) has a sore and he said he needed human hair to cure the sore. He had not gotten the hair; he only solicited. The community just raised the alarm which resulted in the man’s car being vandalised.
“He reported to the police that his car was being vandalised and that they wanted to kill him. That was how the police mediated to avoid the man being lynched.

Politics / How A Police College Should Be by Vickyiests2: 10:47pm On Jan 22, 2013
Recent revelations of the dilapidated state of the Premier Police training college, Ikeja have attracted the attention of many Nigerians including that President Goodluck Jonathan.

The decrepit level of training the Nigerian Police receive from have no doubt impinged on the performance of the security personnel who are currently being overstretched by the high level of insecurity in the country.

A report by the Human Rights Watch showed that Nigerians don’t trust the police; citizens generally have a bad impression of police officers because of their perceived brutality and corruption.

While on an assignment in the United States of America, Channels Television crew was privileged to visit the City of Miami Police College, an institution which specializes in the training of officers and men for the city of Miami police as well as for other police departments.

Politics / FUNNY : Osun Orders Owners Of Arrested 5 Goats To Pay N10,000 Fine Each by Vickyiests2: 3:32am On Jan 12, 2013
Osun state Waste Management Agency (OWMA), on Friday, ordered owners of the five goats arrested in Dele-Yesa area of Osogbo, the state capital on Tuesday to pay the sum of N10,000 each as fine into the coffers of the state government or forfeit the animals

The Director of Environmental Management and Sanitation Agency (OWMA), Mr Henry Ogunbanwo said any of the owners of the goats who failed to pay the fine within seven days would lose their animals.

He said the agency’s order was in tandem with the provisions of article 101 of the 2002 laws of Osun State which forbids rearing of animals in residential areas, pointing out that the agency had the backing of the court for its operations.
logoo
While contending that OWMA had been legally empowered to arrest any stray animal roaming around residential areas within the state, Ogunbanwo disclosed that some owners of the arrested goats had approached the agency to claim their goats.

He said the owners of the animals are compelled by law to pay the prescribed fine or forfeit the ownership of the goats.

Ogunbanwo, who said his agency had before now been apprehending goats and other domestic animals, roaming the streets, said the arrested goats were capable of transmitting tuberculosis, anthrax and other zoonotis diseases

He warned owners of domestic animals in the state against allowing them to roamed the streets by keeping them in a cage to avoid being arrested by the agency.

A top government official in the state, who pleaded anonymity informed Saturday Tribune that “We are not going to release the goats until their owners show up.

They have to face prosecution for violating environmental laws of the state. If they refused to come out, the goats would remain where they are currently being kept.”

According to him, “There is a law governing the rearing of domestic animals. It is incumbent on the owners of these animals to keep them, such that they would not constitute nuisance to the environment.

“The arrested goats ran foul of the laws. We cannot charge them to court. But we are still waiting for their owners so that they can face the law for the offences committed by the goats,” he remarked.

However, investigations conducted by Saturday Tribune indicated that owners of domestic goats and dogs in Osogbo, the state capital, are now apprehensive over the fate of their pets as most of them are now locking up their goats in cages within their households so that officials of OWMA would not arrest them for flouting environmental laws.

Celebrities / Princewill Ojukwu Claims Don Jazzy Told Thugs To Brutalize Him by Vickyiests2: 9:38am On Jan 09, 2013
Popular Lagos socialite and former manager of Auto Lounge Nite Club, Princewill Ojukwu, is accusing ace music producer Don Jazzy of sending thugs to beat him up, this is according to an exclusive report by Stella Dimoko Korkus.

Princewill is alleging in a petition to the IG of Police, that on Friday December 21st, Don Jazzy asked his thugs to ‘take his life’ after he and the music producer exchanged words at Jazzy’s night club, Pop, situated in Victoria Island.

Princewill claimed he was brutally beaten and stripped naked under the supervision of Don Jazzy and he suffered blunt force trauma to the eye, face and body. Sounds insane!

Princewill is also claiming that Don Jazzy sent a text to him some days back apologizing for the beating and asking for an account to send money for hospital bill but he says he’s not interested.

‘Its not about the money’ Ojukwu told Dimoko ‘this could happen to anyone, it is abuse of power and needs to be checked before someone is killed all in the name of the other being a celebrity. Don Jazzy stood there pinging on his blackberry as his thugs beat me up, that is the last thing I remember before I fainted….”

Weeks after the beating, Princewill says he cannot wear shoes, still walks around in pain and has constant migraine. He said he reported the case at the Bar Beach police station but no arrest was ever made. See his petition after the cut…

Business / Naija! FG Fuel Subsidy Account Empty!! by Vickyiests2: 1:06am On Jan 08, 2013
Three weeks after the National Assembly approved a N161.6bn supplementary budget for payment of fuel subsidy for 2012, the subsidy account with the Central Bank of Nigeria has yet to be backed by cash by the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

The PUNCH’s investigations showed that oil marketers, who went to the CBN on Monday, were turned back on the grounds that the subsidy account with the bank had not been credited.

Our correspondent learnt that the oil marketers had been issued Sovereign Debt Notes from the Debt Management Office following the passage of the N161.6bn supplementary bill by the National Assembly.

The Federal Government normally issues oil marketers with SDNs as security against any delay in payment of subsidy for imported cargoes.

SDN, which is another name for government borrowing, is like Treasury Bills and can be discounted for cash, though while the former is a short-term borrowing, the latter is for long term.

The issuance of the SDNs by the DMO, it was learnt, was to allow the CBN quickly fund the marketers’ accounts with their respective Deposit Money Banks.

A top official in one of the oil marketing companies confirmed to our correspondent during a telephone interview that they were turned back by the CBN.

The source, who pleaded not to be named as he was not officially permitted to speak on the issue, said accounts of all oil marketers who had been issued with DMBs could not be credited because the subsidy account with the CBN was empty.

He said, “There might be another round of scarcity because most of us are still being owed by the Federal Government.

“This is because the subsidy account in the CBN has not been credited. When the supplementary budget was passed, the Ministry of Finance said they are going to pay us so they asked the DMO to issue us with SDNs. This is a note that would enable the CBN to credit our accounts with commercial banks.

“We took it to the CBN but we were surprised at what happened. They told us that the subsidy account has not been credited because the N161bn has not been converted to cash by the ministry of finance.

“It is the Minister of Finance that usually tells the Accountant General of the Federation to fund the account; but as I speak to you, this has not been done. So we are still being owed.”

When contacted on the issue, the Director, Corporate Communications Department of the CBN, Mr Ugochukwu Okoroafor, said the issue of fuel subsidy payment was the role of the Ministry of Finance and not that of the bank.

He said, “It is not our responsibility. Our own job is that of a banker and customer relationship and that confidentiality must be respected. Let them (marketers) check with the Ministry of Finance.”

Politics / Fire Guts INEC Hq’s Voter Registry by Vickyiests2: 12:58am On Jan 08, 2013
AN early morning fire on Monday ravaged the Voter Registry Department of the Independent National Electoral Commission, destroying some equipment.

But the electoral body has said that the fire would not have any negative impact on coming elections.

“The fire outbreak has no effect on the oncoming elections as no data was affected,” Director (Public Affairs) of the INEC, Mr. Emmanuel Umenger, told journalists in Abuja on Monday.

While the fire that started at 9.00am and raged for over 30 minutes affected the VRD, INEC said no vital document of the commission was consumed.

The Commission’s Director of Information and Communications Technology, Chidi Nwafor, who also confirmed the incident said, “Our data, sensitive data system, and our saver where all the data and operations are kept are intact; nothing has been damaged, we are still investigating. It is just that office and some office equipment were burnt.”

Celebrities / Davido And Manager Asa Asika Part Ways by Vickyiests2: 10:52am On Jan 01, 2013
After almost two years of working together, Davido, 20, and his manager Asa Asika, 22, (center) have parted ways. They reportedly ended their working relationship a few days back but none of them have said anything about it yet, though they’ve both changed their Twitter bios.

I’m trying to find out what really happened between these two as there are a few versions of what led to their break up. One version claims that Asa was dropped because Davido has become too big an artist for him (Asa) to handle. Another version claims Davido assaulted Asa over money.

I don’t know the real story but I plan to ask Davido when I see him at Funmi Iyanda’s show tomorrow. Stay tuned! Hehe…

Vickyiests2: Buhari bares it all
•I won’t forget what IBB did to me, although I’ve forgiven him
•I’ve not forgiven Obasanjo
•My civil war experiences
•No regret shooting cocaine pushers
It’s a very long interview so be prepared..:-). See it after the cut…

Ever since the Supreme Court ruled on the 2011 presidential election, former Head of State and candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari, has always refused to grant an elaborate interview on his experiences and feelings.
However, on the auspicious occasion of his 70th birthday, Buhari has finally spoken. In an exclusive interview with Saturday Sun, he talked about his growing up days, experiences in the Army, his emergence as head of state when he never participated in any coup, the 1966 coup and the counter-coup, the General Ibrahim Babangida coup that swept him out of office, the execution of cocaine traffickers, Decree 4 and the controversial ‘53 suitcases’ that allegedly came into the country during his government.
He also spoke about his relationship with General Babangida, who he said he had forgiven, although he would not forget what he did to him and his plan for the 2015 elections, among others.
Excerpts:
What kind of childhood did you have?
Well, from my father’s side, we are Fulanis. You know the Fulanis are really divided into two. There are nomads, the ones that if you drive from Maiduguri and many parts of the North you will find. They are even in parts of Delta now. And there are those who settled. They are cousins and the same people actually. From my mother’s side and on her father’s side, we are Kanuris from Kukawa.
Where’s Kukawa?
Kukawa is in Borno State. We are Kanuris. On her mother’s side, we are Hausas. So, you can see I am Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri combined (he laughs). I am the 23rd child of my father. Twenty-third and the 13th on my mother side. There are only two of us remaining now; my sister and I. I went to school, primary school, in Daura and Kaduna, also a primary school, in Kachia. I also attended Kaduna Provincial Secondary School, now Government College. I didn’t work for a day. I joined the military in 1962.
You mean as a boy soldier?
No, after school certificate. There was an officer cadet school from here in Kaduna, called Nigeria Military Training College then. In April 1962, I went to the United Kingdom (UK), Mons Officers Cadet School.
You mean the famous Mons Officers…?
Yes. And when I was commissioned, I came back and I was posted to 2nd Infantry Battalion in Abeokuta. That was my first posting. The battalion was in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I went there. When I came back from there, I was first in Lagos, as Transport Officer. That was where I was till the January coup. I was posted back to my battalion and we were posted to Kaduna here. And then, there was a counter coup, civil war, coup and counter-coup. We participated. I too was overthrown and detained for more than three years. And having had that major political setback when I was made a head of state and then, ended up in detention, I went out and eventually, I decided to join party politics, participated three times and lost as presidential candidate and I am still in and fighting.
