Antonio Conte is confident John Terry will be fit to take on Liverpool after the Chelsea captain suffered an ankle injury in a controversial 2-2 draw at Swansea. Terry's participation for Liverpool's Premier League visit to Stamford Bridge on Friday was thrown into doubt when he pulled up in the closing stages of the match. The Chelsea captain reportedly left the Liberty Stadium on crutches and Conte said more about Terry's condition would be known on Monday. "I don't know the extent of the injury but tomorrow we will see the situation about his ankle," said Chelsea manager Conte. "But he is a warrior and I am not worried." Chelsea dominated before the break to deservedly lead through Diego Costa's 18th- minute goal. But Gylfi Sigurdsson's penalty and Leroy Fer's disputed goal within a few minutes of each other saw Swansea take an unlikely lead. Costa, however, salvaged a point for Chelsea with a spectacular bicycle kick - despite some claims of a foul - nine minutes from time, his fourth goal of the season saving the Blues' unbeaten record. "It's very difficult to talk about the game and the final result because I think Chelsea deserved to win," said Conte. "We created a lot of chances to score many goals, and I think we were dominating the game when we were leading 1-0. "But in only two minutes we were losing 2-1. "For the second goal I think everyone can see the foul on (Gary) Cahill and there is a big mistake from the referee. "I also want to say that this can happen for one side or the other side. I don't want to complain, but this is the reality. "But we had a fantastic reaction, the players showed we did not want to lose and we tried to win until the end. "It is a pity because I think we lost two points today. Now we must look forward and prepare the next game." Deputy senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to to immediately assemble a team of economic experts to come up with workable ideas that will take the country out of recession. Ekweremadu urged President Buhari to look beyond party affiliation to constitute a Special Economic Squad to rescue the nation from present economic meltdown. He noted that the present economic challenges were not beyond redemption, but could actually become the nation’s turning point away from an oil-driven economy to real prosperity if the right policies and structures were put in place. account “I warned long ago that elections had come and gone and we should move from politics to governance. It is time for governance and we must bring all capable hands on deck, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic backgrounds. “Nigerians are facing hard times; and all they are interested in are positive results and urgent succour. They don’t care whether you are All Progressives Congress, APC, or Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and whether you are North or South. The good news is that capable hands abound in the country. We must assemble them and give them both the mandate and liberty to help the president’s team to revamp the nation’s economy.” The Deputy Senate President also commended the security agencies for the arrangements put in place to ensure a hitch-free Sallah. Meanwhile, Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed hope that the country would be great again as he urge all to adhere to the tenets of peace, perseverance, tolerance, peace and love for one another as preached by Islam. Fayose in his congratulatory message to Muslims on the celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir urged Nigerians to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration and ask God to give them the inspiration, wisdom and knowledge to lead the country. The Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC,
has arrested a man identified
as Ibrahim Babangida, for
offences bordering on
criminal breach of trust,
attempted theft, conspiracy
and impersonation.
Also arrested with him is
another suspect bearing
Murtala Mohammed, along
with the driver of the agency,
who was identified as Nasiru
Isa.
The driver, who joined the
Commission about 18 months
ago, is a member of a
criminal syndicate that
attempted to break into a
sealed property by the EFCC,
with the intent of carting
away goods suspected to be
proceeds of money
laundering.
The syndicate, apart from Isa,
Babangida and Mohammed,
includes a mobile police
officer, Corporal Aliyu
Ismaila, Abubakar Jibrin,
Abdulsalam Ado, Reuben
Dauda, Hassan Aliyu, Sani
Yusuf.
Located in the choice area of
Garki, Abuja, the property is
currently under investigation
by the agency, and became a
subject of interest, in the
aftermath of findings into the
N3.9 billion fraud case
involving a former Chief of
Defence Staff, CDS, Air Chief
Marshal Alex Badeh (retd).
The property was also linked
to the wife of the former CDS.
Investigations by EFCC
operatives revealed that
shortly after the property was
sealed, some individuals
moved about 12 bags believed
to contain items linked to
money laundering offence,
into the property.
On August 30, operatives of
the EFCC as part of
monitoring activities on the
sealed property, had gone to site to
execute a search. However, members of
the syndicate took to their heels on
sighting the operatives of the anti-graft
agency. A carpenter, Yakubu
Muhammad, who was hired by the
syndicate, was left behind and was
subsequently arrested by the operatives.
The carpenter, who has been
cooperating with operatives, confessed
that he was not in the know of the illicit
activity. He said he was only brought in
by the syndicate to assist with the use of
his carpentry tools to break into the
property.
Investigations revealed that one of those
in the know about the goods was the
brain behind the scheming to steal them.
The syndicate decided they would need
to subdue the security man at the
property, which would mean they would
need to involve security personnel in the
syndicate.
Subsequently, Mr. Isa was contacted. To
further beef up the security aspect of the
crime, he also contacted his friend, Mr.
Ismaila, who came for the “operation”
fully armed. In perpetrating the crime,
Mr. Dauda had posed to be a senior staff
with the EFCC, while Mr. Jibrin posed as
an Intelligence police officer in the
office of the Inspector General of Police
However, nemesis caught up with them
on August 30 when they were caught in
the act of breaking into the property,
having successfully overpowered the
security guard at the entrance.
They would be charged to court as soon
as investigations are concluded.

Chelsea have a list of teams that they won’t
conduct transfer business with, according
to Bristol City’s chief operating officer.
The Premier League club sent 38 players out on
loan during the summer window, one of whom
was highly rated 18-year-old Tammy Abraham
who joined Bristol City on a season-long deal.
And Mark Ashton claims Chelsea needed to be
convinced of City’s willingness to give Abraham
playing time, and revealed that the Blues will no
longer allow players to join certain teams on
loan.
“At the end of last season, Lee [Johnson, the
Bristol City manager] went to Chelsea’s training
ground and presented to [technical director]
Michael Emenalo, while I went to Stamford
Bridge and met Roman Abramovich’s board of
directors,” Ashton told the Bristol Post .
‘They had tried these arrangements with English
clubs before and, in their words, they hadn’t
worked. They gave me a list of clubs they would
not do business with.
“I asked them to give us Tammy for the season
and then judge us on what we do, not what we
say. I told them we would show them what we
could do and then build a long-term relationship.
“We then did the deal with Chelsea and sorted all
of the finances, which were far from
straightforward. Then we had to wait for [new
Chelsea head coach Antonio] Conte.” |
In his book, 'I am Zlatan', Ibrahimovic
explains how a reunion with the Portuguese
boss led to the collapse of his relationship
with the Catalan during his Barcelona day
I still don’t know what [Guardiola’s] problem
was. Or, well... I don't think the guy can
handle strong personalities. He wants nice
school boys. And worse: he runs away from
his problems. He can't look them in the eye
and that makes everything so much worse.
So, it got worse [at Barcelona] when the ash
cloud from the volcano on Iceland came. No
flights at all in Europe and we were going to
San Siro to face Inter. We took the bus.
Some brain-dead person at Barca thought
that was a good idea. I was free from injuries
then. But the trip became a disaster. It took
16 hours and we were all worn out when we
arrived in Milan. It was our most important
game so far that season, the semi-final of
the Champions League, and I was prepared
for mayhem, booing and whistling at my old
arena. But that was no problem; that drives
me. But the situation apart from that was
terrible. And I think Guardiola had a hang up
on Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho is a big star. He had won the
Champions League already with Porto. He
was my coach at Inter. He's cool. The first
time he met Helena he whispered to her:
"Helena, you only have one mission. Feed
Zlatan, let him sleep, keep him happy!" The
guy says what he wants. I like him. He's the
leader of an army. But he also cares. He was
sending me text messages all the time in
Inter asking how I was feeling. He's the
opposite of Guardiola. If Mourinho lights up a
room, Guardiola pulls the blinds. I guess
Guardiola was now trying to measure up to
him.
"It's not Mourinho we are facing - it's Inter,"
he said, like we thought we'd play ball with
the coach. And then he pulled his philosophy
crap. I was barely listening. Why would I? It
was advanced crap about blood, sweat and
tears; sh*t like that. I've never heard a coach
talk like that. Pure garbage. But now he
finally came up to me. It was during the
practice at San Siro and people were there
watching, like, "Wow! Ibra is back!"
"Can you play from the start?" Guardiola
asked.
"Definitely," I answered.
"But are you prepared?"
"Definitely. I feel fine."
"But are you ready?"
He was like a parrot and I got some nasty
vibes.
"Listen, it was a terrible trip, but I'm in good
form. The injury is gone. I'll give it my all."
Guardiola looked as though he doubted me…
But I got to play from the start and we went
1-0 up. Then the game turned. I was
substituted after 60 minutes and we lost 3-1.
It was s***. I was furious. But, in the earlier
days, like at Ajax, I could dwell on a loss for
days or even weeks. Now I have Helena and
the kids. They help me forget and move on.
And I was focusing on the return game at
Camp Nou. The return game was incredibly
important and the excitement was building
up, day by day.
The pressure was incredible. It was like
thunder in the air and we had to win big to
advance. But then, I don't even want to think
about it, or, well, I do. It made me stronger.
We won 1-0. But that wasn't enough. We
were eliminated from the Champions League
and afterwards Guardiola looked at me like it
was my fault.
I felt like sh*t sitting in the dressing room
and Guardiola was staring at me like I was a
problem, some freak. It was insane. He was a
wall, a stone wall. I didn't get a single sign of
life from him and I wanted to get far away
every second. I was no longer part of the
team and when we played Villarreal, he let
me play five minutes. Five minutes! I was
boiling inside, not because I was on the
bench, as I can deal with that if the coach is
man enough to say, "You're not good enough,
Zlatan."
But Guardiola didn't say a single word,
nothing, and at this point, I'd had it. I could
feel it in my entire body, and if I was
Guardiola, I would have been scared. Not that
I'm a fighter. I've done all kinds of crazy
s***. But I don't fight, well, on the pitch I've
knocked one or two out. But still, when I get
angry, my eyes turn black. You don't want to
be anywhere near me. And let me tell you in
detail what happened.
After the game I went into the dressing
room. I hadn't exactly planned some raging
attack. But I wasn't happy, to use mild words,
and in the dressing room my enemy stood,
scratching his bald head. Yaya Toure and a
few others were there. I was staring at the
big metal box where we put our clothes.
Then I kicked it. I think it flew three metres.
But I wasn't done yet. Far from it. I yelled:
"You have no balls!" And probably some
worse things. Then, I added: "You sh*t
yourself in front of Mourinho. You can go f**k
yourself!"

The former Super Eagles skipper is saddened
by the state of Nigerian football and believes
ex-players should be given a chance to take
charge of administration
Kanu Nwankwo hopes ex-internationals are
given the opportunity to help rescue Nigeria
football from sinking further.
The Super Eagles legend expressed his
unhappiness at the Super Eagles’ inability to
qualify for Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations,
and felt that could have been averted if those
who played the game had a say in terms of
administration.
“It worries me as a former captain and
player. It’s something that doesn’t make us
sleep well,” said Kanu.
"We’re missing out on too many
competitions, and this is not the Nigeria we
know and there’s something wrong
somewhere.
“People come up to say ‘Kanu go and do
something,’ but we don’t have that
opportunity especially when you talk but
people don’t listen to you; it hurts.
"We want to contribute, and we don’t have to
be coaches to contribute, because we’re part
of Nigeria and great ambassadors, so we
have to play our own part but when the
doors aren’t opened for us to play a part
we’ll just sit at home and talk from now till
forever and nothing will happen.
"Those in the powerhouse have to realise
they have people like us [ex internationals]
that can play our part,” he concluded.
*Kanu was speaking at the launch launch of
Star Football League, a collaboration between
Star Lager Beer and five major European clubs
(Arsenal, Manchester City, PSG, Juventus and
Real Madrid) to further strengthen the ties
between the clubs and their fans in the
Nigeria.
