PoliticsRivers Governorship Election Remains Valid – Jega by vicostyle20(op): 12:43pm On Apr 24, 2015
The recently conducted Governorship election in Rivers State remains valid as there was no concrete evidence to buttress irregularities, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega said
Speaking at the Civil Rights Situation Room‎ in Abuja, Jega recalled that the Commission on receipt of petition from the All Progressives Congress (APC) immediately dispatched a three-man team to investigate.
According to him, the reports turned in by the committee did not in any way show any irregularities during the election.
His words, “We have no power to cancel elections results once returns have been made. On the petition against election irregularities in Rivers state, the commission sent three national commissioners to the state to investigate it. Some people don’t want elections to hold, they are the ones calling for cancellation.
“We investigate the allegation of fake result sheets in Rivers, our reports showed that there was nothing like that.”

Jega, also reiterated that he would not accept reappointment offer, adding that the Commission is partnering with the Police and the Nigerian Bar Association NBA to prosecute electoral offenders.
Recalling the happenings prior to the general elections, Jega said, “Evidently, some people did not want us to use the card reader machine. That was why we allowed manual election in some few places where the card reader did not function well during the Presidential election.
“Some people had already saying that we deliberately deployed card reader machine that will not in some zones and to prove them wrong, we instructed that manual voting should take place in such places. But some people want to take the advantage of that.
“But during governorship elections, we ensured that all the card reader machines worked. We have earlier sent warning to all the RECs that they will be held responsible for any card reader that did not work properly”.
Clement Nwankwo, the convener of the Situation Room and Executive Director of Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre PLAC, congratulated the INEC boss on successful peaceful polls on behalf of the Civil Societies.

PoliticsOsun May Stop Free Feeding Of School Children by vicostyle20(op): 9:15am On Apr 24, 2015
The Osun State Government is considering a review of its policy of free feeding of primary school pupils in the state.
https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Osun-feeding-programme-Omeal-360x232.jpg
Investigation by our correspondent revealed on Thursday that Governor Rauf Aregbesola had set up a committee to work out how to implement the review of this policy.
The nine-member committee, which is also working on the review of the state’s free health programme for children and the elderly, may recommend that parents be made to pay a little levy for each child in school.
The committee comprises permanent secretaries in the state and a level 17 officer, who is a director.
A source in the government circles told our correspondent that labour leaders in the state recommended the review of the free feeding policy alongside others to save money for payment of salaries of civil servants and to carry out developmental projects.

The Aregbesola government has for almost six months been unable to pay workers salaries, a development it blames on dwindling allocation from the Federal Government.
Deputy Governor Titi Laoye-Tomori had said last year that the “ school feeding meals cost government of the State of Osun N3.6bn annually.”
In December 2014, the All Progressives Congress in the state said the allocation accruing to the state had fallen from N3.8bn per month to N1.3bn.
Following agitations by civil servants over the non-payment of their salaries, Aregbesola challenged labour leaders in the state to suggest how his administration could generate more funds to meet its obligations.
The labour leaders consequently came up with a report containing recommendations for the review of the policies.
The report dated December 15 ,2014 and cited by Journalists was signed by the the Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Councils, Bayo Adejumo; the Chairman of Trade Union Congress in the state, Francis Adetunji; and the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Saka Adesiyan.
The secretary of the JNC, R. A . Adeyemi; TUC Secretary, Kayode Adepoju and the secretary of the NLC, G. A. Bolarinwa, also signed the report.
It was learnt that the labour leaders came up with the recommendations after interactive sessions with workers.
In the report, they recommended the introduction of Parent/Teacher Association levy to be paid by every primary and secondary school pupil.
The report read in part, “We have to appreciate the government for its programmes on free health, education and free meal, etc while the economy was buoyant to some extent.
“Now that the situation has reached unmanageable equilibrium, we wish to advise that the policy of government on free programmes be reviewed to increase the IGR(Internally Generated Revenue) of the state.
“There should be introduction of token amount to be paid by each pupil/ student to assist the government since the government had hitherto provided everything on education free of charge when the economy was stable.
“The PTA should be re-introduced to contribute token amount to schools. It was revealed that at the Federal Government College, Ipetu, parents do pay a sum of N5,000 per student to assist the school.”
The labour leaders also recommended that the governor should prioritise capital projects and complete them in phases.
They also recommended the review of some laws which stipulate fines of as low as N20 or N50 as punishment for non-payment of some taxes.
The union leaders advised the government to stop illegal mining of solid mineral resources such as gold and tantalite in the state.
They also want the government to begin the collection of revenue from contractors and others digging gravel, sand and granite from burrow pits.
They were equally not silent on the need for the government to take a second look at the number of political appointees and their remunerations with a view to minimising the cost of governance.
The report added, “We know for sure that the area of political appointment is Mr. governor’s constituency. But because of the economic situation we find ourselves now, the truth must be told. The appointment of chains of political appointees, e.g, special advisers, senior special assistants, personal assistants and all other political appointments should be suspended for now.
“More importantly, since the governor had dissolved his cabinet on the last day of his first term, we advise that he should tarry a bit before he appoints his political aides except those that are compulsory for him to have.
“The remuneration of political office holders is considered to be on the high side, especially the ones that were not known within the purview of the Salaries and Wages Commission which the state House of Assembly legislated upon.
“Also, the remuneration of political office holders should be reviewed downward. When Mr. governor wants to appoint his political functionaries later, it should be manageable.”
The labour leaders recommended that the governor should stop the use of consultants for IGR collection. They believe that the use of consultants amounts to waste of resources.
They therefore advised that civil servants should be used to execute such tasks.
The unionists added, “ If there is a dire need at all for the use of consultants for specific purposes, the revenue that would be accruable to the state should be fixed and percentages should not be given as it is the case now where 40 per cent goes to the government and 60 per cent to the consultants.”
Noting that the government was not doing enough to stop illegal felling of trees in the state, they suggested that foresters should be adequately equipped to fight criminal cutting of trees .
Another aspect of their recommendations is revenue generation from tertiary institutions. While they agreed that state owned tertiary institutions should be made self-sustaining, they said that tuition should not be hiked.
They said that the institutions should be made to generate enough fund to take care of their basic needs in order to free the subventions given to them by the government.
The union leaders advised also that the government should regulate the part-time and pre-degree programmes of the institutions to prevent managements from abusing them.
When contacted, the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the governor’s office, Semiu Okanlawon, said that he had not seen the report.
He however confirmed that the state government asked labour to advise it on how to generate income from other sources apart from federal allocation.

PoliticsBuhari Will Give The Poorest Nigerians N7500 Monthly – APC by vicostyle20(op): 11:33pm On Apr 23, 2015
https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Muhammadu-Buhari2-300x275.jpg
As Muhammadu Buhari awaits his May 29 inauguration, the All Progressives Congress (APC) says work has started in earnest by the president-elect and his vice, to solve the problems facing the country.
According to a statement by the party, the incoming government will focus on poverty eradication, creation of jobs among other crucial areas needing the attention of the government.
“Chief among these programmes include plans to curb poverty by creating jobs and setting up social welfare schemes that cater to the poorest Nigerians. One of these schemes is a Conditional Cash Transfer that pays N5000 – N7500 monthly to 25 Million of the poorest Nigerians over the next four years as long as they send their children to school and get them immunized. Another provides free meals to children in primary schools nationwide while there are plans to stimulate the Agricultural sector and institute a National Health Insurance Scheme that provides healthcare cover for poor people for just N500-N1000 yearly contribution,” the statement read.

The APC said the efforts are to ensure the promises made to the people are fulfilled. Also, the new government will ensure that it employs the best brains to work with him, especially “in powerful positions in Ministries and parastatals where the country needs progressive and definitive action in areas like Power, Education and Agriculture to mention just a few”.
Buhari and Osinbajo have already begun screening people who are being considered for the position.
The statement said that “the APC remains committed to executing its signature programmes – huge policy and social initiatives that cannot be hijacked. The incoming regime has made it clear that tokenism will not solve the major problems that ail the country”.

PoliticsBoko Haram Runs Out Of Arms, Ammunition; Says Escapee by vicostyle20(op): 9:55am On Apr 23, 2015
Remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists have run out of arms and ammunitions, as the Nigerians military intensifies attack on Sambiza Forest, an escapee and military sources have revealed.
This is even as the Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade confirmed to newsmen in Abuja that ground troops with support from airstrikes have stormed sambisa forest combing terrorists from their hideouts.
Although, Olukolade did not disclosed whether military troops have succeeded in killing or destroying terrorists camps in the ongoing raid which began on Wednesday, an escapee from Tabe village of Damboa local government area who narrowly escaped from the area said “the Boko Haram terrorists have run out of arms and ammunitions as the military intensify attacks on Sambiza Forest”.
He said “you can find more than 500 members of the insurgents with only few of them having rifles and even when one or two of them have rifles, it is like a stick, as they have run out of ammunitions, because the usual supplies they get are not forthcoming.
“I am optimistic that the military will succeed by killing many of these sect who have been terrorising residents in the past three years in the shores of Sambisa forest””. He stated
Another resident of nearby Yamtake village who does not want his name in print told our correspondent that “ As a result of the recent aerial bombardment on the Sambiza forest, many of the sect members including their commanders have fled into the nearby bushes of Yamtake, Tabe and Jangoro villages of Damboa local government area of the state.”

He called on the military authorities to come to their aid by mopping up the remnant of the insurgents who fled to these areas before they regroup to unleash terror on innocent villagers.
He said “the Boko Haram terrorists have only bow and arrows, matchets, daggers and other local weapons, as they have run out of arms and ammunitions and were roaming about in the bushes of the villages along the fringes of the Sambiza forest”.
Meanwhile, a security source from Bama, one of the recaptured local government area in Borno said the Boko Haram has caused a lot of destruction in Bama town, as corpses were scattered all over the streets, some were dumped in destroyed buildings and wells.
He said “only few structures still standing, as the terrorists have virtually destroyed all structures in the town. Very soon we are also going to the Sambiza forest for mop up operations, as we have been directed to clear the Sambiza before the May 29handing over dateline”. The security source also revealed.

https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/origs3689463/4195565125-w644-h429/Ali-Modu-Sheriff.jpg
The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned a former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sherriffover allegations connected to misappropriation and embezzlement during his governorship tenure.
According to the report, the former governor is expected to report at the EFCC head office in Abuja on Thursday, April 23, 2015.
Sources at the EFCC told journalists that if Sherriff fails to appear as directed, he will be declared wanted and arrested.
It was reported that detectives are already on the former governor’s trail to ensure he does not leave the country.
Details are still sketchy about the exact allegations against Sherriff, but it is believed to be linked to the N300 billion his administration received from the Federal account between 2003 and 2011.
Report says the fund may have ended in personal coffers.
Sheriff was senator between 1999 and 2003 on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and later became the Governor of Borno state under the aegis of the same party.

PoliticsDonald Duke: ‘PDP Lost Election Due To Arrogance,’ Former Governor Says by vicostyle20(op): 12:11pm On Apr 21, 2015
Duke also stated that it was the same arrogance that stopped the party’s leaders from solving the problems which eventually led to its downfall.
https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3682414/7832785636-chorizontal-w644/donald-duke.jpg

Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River state, has attributed the woeful performance of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in the 2015 general election to the arrogance of the party’s leaders.

Speaking on Monday during a Channels Television programme, he said the party’s leaders were so arrogant and deified that that they missed numerous opportunities to top the rot in its fold. “The arrogance had it reached its zenith when five governors, five PDP governors, threatened to leave the party; and the leaders said ‘let them go’ simply because they were the governors who would be against the renomination of the president,” Duke said.

But he admonished the party to take its losses in its stride and focus on regaining lost ground, as a virile opposition is crucial to the sustenance of democracy.

“It has to go back and re-strategise – a number of things have gone wrong. First of all, we need to have an opposition in the country. It would be very sad to allow the PDP to just fizzle out. That would be wrong, not just for the party,” he said. “For the country, we need a strong opposition party to keep those in authority on their toes. We need to ask ourselves very salient questions; where did we go wrong? “PDP, in some sections of the country, offended the electorate: the handling of certain issues.

The handling of Boko Haram was very poor, the economic situation in the north was not seen to being addressed, the extravagance of public office holders, the proliferation of private jets, acting as if this party would never end. “All these abused the sensitivities of a large section of the population. It was just a way of live for so many people. The divide was strictly between the rich and the poor. The middle class was eradicated; all that has to be addressed.

“You need to get over the psychological trauma of the defeat. They’ve been in power of an office for 16 years, they need to consolidate – the base of the PDP now is largely in the southsouth and southeast – consolidate from there and re-grow.” He urged the PDP leadership got to go back and ask what went wrong in some states and then prepare for the next election. “Taking over from an incumbent is a very difficult thing, but you just have to wait and hope for the opportunity – it could take another 16 years for them to come back to the centre,” he said. “PDP has about 10 states, when this is all over; it’s a good place to start from. They need to redesign the party completely. Don’t forget what we now see as the APC was an evolution of ANPP at the beginning and the PDP, which were two formidable parties in the country. “PDP needs to re-evolve and re-strategise to get there. I do hope it doesn’t fizzle out. I’m quite concerned and disappointed that a number of people have jumped ship. They would come back frustrated in due cause.”

PoliticsBuhari Promises To Resume Search For Oil In Nigeria’s North by vicostyle20(op): 7:19pm On Apr 20, 2015
https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/exploration-300x188.jpg
President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday, said his administration will focus on re-activating the Lake Chad and deploy enormous resources to resume vigorous search for oil along the Chad Basin in parts of Borno State after the war against insurgency in the region would have been won.
Speaking at his residence in Kaduna while responding to requests made by Governor Kashim Shettima, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi and some elders from Borno State during a congratulatory visit, ‎Buhari said he was very much aware of the problems of the northeast and will not waste time in tackling them one after the other.

According to Buhari, who is to be sworn in as Nigeria’s president on May 29, his government will enhance collaboration with neighboring governments of Chad, Niger and Cameroon to curtail the trans-border movement of Boko Haram insurgents as a way of restoring peace to the region.
Buhari recalled that there had been exploration activities in and around the Chad Basin as far back as 1978 when he was Minister of Petroleum. This, he promised, would be revived when he settles in office.
The president-in-waiting said he had many years ago, suggested the need to take the search for oil in the north seriously, not only to increase the export potentials on Nigeria, but also to balance cross regional perceptions and manage agitations so as to enhance the stability of the country.
He also assured the delegation that the receding of lake chad will be addressed through the channeling of water from the central African Republic to the lake to boost its commercial activities for fishing and irrigation farming.
Buhari said he once read a document raising fears about receding of the Lake Chad which he handed over to then President, Olusegun Obasanjo. As nothing had been done about the lake until now, the president-elect said he will handle the matter himself. He noted that the lake has the potentials to create millions of jobs through irrigation and many other commercial uses.
Governor Kashim Shettima who led the delegation in company of all traditional rulers, elders, elected National and State Assembly members and other stakeholders, had earlier disclosed that they were at the resident of the president-elect to congratulate him over his historic victory at the polls and to also remind him of problems affecting Borno State which he already knew.

PoliticsWhy Must Governor Fayose Choose Violence As A Religion? – Ekiti APC by vicostyle20(op): 5:52pm On Apr 20, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has praised drivers and motorcycle riders associations for refusing to obey Governor Ayodele Fayose’s inciting order to foment trouble over alleged plan by the 19 APC lawmakers to storm the House of Assembly with thugs to impeach him and asked Why must a governor choose violence as a religion?.
The governor had yesterday made a live broadcast on the state media urging drivers, motorbike operators, market women and workers‎ to rise up to protect the mandate they gave him.
Few minutes later, state radio and television stations ran public announcements intermittently‎ urging drivers and motorcycle operators to be on the look-out for strange faces invading the town to work for the APC lawmakers while also urging them to mobilise to the House of Assembly to prevent the governor’s impeachment.
But on Monday, the drivers and many okada riders refused to protest, saying that they would not be used as cannon fodder while the governor’s children were kept in safety and luxury abroad.
In a statement, Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, praised the transport workers for their courage and wisdom, saying it is callous for a man to put fellow human beings in harm’s way over protection of his interest while ‎keeping his own children out of danger to enjoy safety in luxury.
“We praised the drivers and motorcycle operators for ‎their courage and wisdom. Fayose is used to protecting his own interest and keeping his children in safety while he distributes guns to the children of others to foment trouble.

“The day he was first impeached in 2006, he asked his supporters to meet at Fajuyi to confront the soldiers. It is later that his supporters discovered that the governor had bolted in the booth of his car to safety while his supporters were tear-gassed with several of them wounded,” Olatubosun said.
APC spokesman said the matter at hand was not about partisanship but about the abuse of the constitution, and wondered why Fayose believed he must win through violence all the time he tramples on the constitution.
“He first led thugs to sack the court and beat up a judge while court records in the Chief Judge’s office were torn. The Chief Judge’s Secretary was beaten. Now, he openly made a live broadcast in the state media inciting his supporters to an act of insurrection by disallowing the lawmakers to do their lawful duties.
“Even during Sunday service in the church, Fa‎yose, to the shock of everyone, was inciting worshipers to protect the mandate they gave him through violent resistance to the lawmakers. Why must a governor choose violence as a religion?
“He effectively grounded the judiciary and now it is the turn of the parliament. Nigerian democracy is on trial and the Constitution ‎of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is in chains if Fayose can single-handedly cripple these two sacred democratic institutions through violence and he appears winning all the way,” Olatubosun said.
He wondered why Fayose preferred violent option in the resolution of constitutional and democratic matters. He also asked Ekiti elders preaching peace to Speaker Adewale Omirin that they must first start with Fayose on the need to embrace peace by operating within the ambit of the law instead of inciting people into violence.
Olatubosun also regretted that the governor’s inciting media statement had created panic among parents who kept their wards at home for fear of attacks on their way to schools.

Politics‘pdp’s Sins Will Soon Start Coming Out,’ President-elect Says by vicostyle20(op): 5:40pm On Apr 20, 2015
Buhari also spoke on the challenges posed by the Boko Haram sect and the tenure expiration of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Attahiru Jega.
https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3661511/6792785872-chorizontal-w644/buhari.jpg
President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has said that the sins committed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while ruling Nigeria will continue to come out for a long time.
Buhari also spoke on the challenges posed by the Boko Haramsect and the tenure expiration of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Attahiru Jega.
Read excerpts of his interview with journalists, as published by some national dalies on Sunday, April 19, 2015, below:

There has been an influx of defectors from the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to your party, APC, since after your victory at the polls. Many think the development may destabilise the APC. How do you intend to manage the situation?
I think this is a question meant for the party. I wish John Oyegun was here to answer you because we have a system. Just because I am the presidential candidate and the president-elect, I don’t think the system has allowed me to usurp the power of the party executives. But, certainly, in a multi-party democratic system, fundamentally, it is the number that matters for the people. But for the party, what matters is the ability to manage the number so that the majority will have its way and there will be justice. No matter what happens to the PDP by May 29, I assure you or I assure them through you that there will be justice in the APC.
A new government, which you will head, will soon be inaugurated. Can you tell us what criteria you will be using in selecting those who you will work with?
It is a difficult time for Nigerians as you all know. I have said it in the past that, in the last 16 years, Nigeria has never realised the amount of revenue it received. The price of a barrel of crude oil rose to about 140 dollars and then crashed to about 50 dollars. During the 16 years, we know what happened to some big companies that employ a lot of Nigerians and give them training facilities like the Nigeria Airways, Nigeria National Shipping Line.
Even Nigeria Railway is managing to be on paper with some refurbished engines moving from Lagos to Ibadan and a few other places. If you go to their stations all over the country, you will realise that they are in a terrible shape. It is very disappointing that the PDP government virtually failed to use those resources to grow the economy.
I think the worst thing is the lack of accountability and the terrible budgetary system. Imagine that over 90 percent of Nigerian budget is on recurrent. How can you sustain development in a country like Nigeria with only about 10 percent of your income? Things just have to change. There must be more money available for infrastructure, for investment in getting the factories back, employment and getting goods and services for the population. I think the sins of PDP will be coming out for several years to come.
To some extent, the general elections are seen by many to be credible. Will you try to retain the INEC Chairman to build on the successes recorded even though he said he wouldn’t accept another term of office?
I think Prof. Jega knows exactly what to do. He has already said that he is not going to accept a renewal of his tenure in June. I believe that he has learnt enough and will submit a comprehensive hand over notes some of which he seems to have written. At the last National Council of States meeting, he submitted a document of INEC activities right from the 2011 general elections to date with attachment showing the personnel trained, acquisition of election materials, the distributions, security, among others, and I don’t think that such that report can be faulted.
There are speculations that looting of public treasury is ongoing in the land. What do you intend to do to check this problem?
I will like to work within the system because we believe in it. I have just told you about three governors and the battle they have with law enforcement agents in their states. People must not benefit from being lawless. You can’t be in a position by virtue of the Constitution, subvert the Constitution and continue to enjoy the privileges offered by the Constitution. I don’t think that will be acceptable by the APC. So, whether you are in the opposition or government, you have to behave yourself. I think that is the way we can make progress.
APC preaches transparency and accountability. But a lot of people with apparent questionable characters are moving into the APC. Don’t you think they will also pollute the APC?
For those that are coming into the APC, I have no fear because we have our party structure. The fact that you were a party Chairman or you were a minister before you joined the APC, we appreciate the fact that you remain relevant in your immediate locality. But when it comes to the centre, there is equality in the way the government will handle you.
So, those that are coming in, I hope they will accept that they are coming to join those who succeeded and they should cooperate with them. They can’t come and say that because they were once ministers under PDP, they will join APC and become ministers the following month or so. I don’t think that it will be acceptable even by their constituencies.
There have been reports that you promised to end the Boko Haram insurgency within two months, but your media team reacted saying you never said so. Can you now set the record straight?
I think I am too experienced in internal security to give two months deadline on Boko Haram. I don’t think I would have made that mistake because I tried to look at some of my experiences even when I was in uniform with the rebels from Chad when I was GOC in Jos and with Maitatsine. So, for me to say that when I come into office, I will get rid of Boko Haram in two months, I don’t think I would have made that statement. I didn’t.
As I have mentioned on several occasions, we that have, at one time or the other, wore Nigeria military uniform felt terribly embarrassed that for six years, the military couldn’t bring order to 14 out of 774 local governments in the country after Burma, Zaire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Dafur where Nigerian military earned respect internationally for their performance.
To fail to secure 14 out of 774 local governments. I still can’t reconcile myself with that disgrace. We will try and work with our neigbours such as Chad, Cameroon and Niger who are fighting Boko Haram for us. Look at Chad helping Nigeria or Niger, or Cameroon itself. This nation has been humiliated by the PDP. God willing, with our experiences, we will quickly marshal support and we are asking Boko Haram to pack and go.

PoliticsWe Won't Apologise, Foreigners Are Not Welcome -south Africa King Replies by vicostyle20(op): 9:58am On Apr 18, 2015
King Goodwill Zwelithini stands by his view that foreigners should go back to their home countries.

KING Goodwill Zwelithini meant each and every word when he said foreigners must pack their bags and get out of South Africa.

So said Zwelithini’s spokesman, Prince Thulani Zulu, who told journalists yesterday the king has nothing to be sorry for.
https://redactor-images-dailysun-live.s3.amazonaws.com/5511b24e68480b4c75617510.jpg
The Zulu king’s outburst came on Saturday during his speech at a moral regeneration event in Pongola, northern KZN.

In the presence of both Police Minister Nathi Nhleko and provincial MEC Willies Mchunu, the king was reported to have told the gathering that it was time foreigners were told to return to their countries.

The king accused them of messing up the country’s towns by hanging their fake clothing brands on the streets.

“Now when you walk down the street you can’t recognise a shop you used to know because it has been taken over by foreigners who mess it up by hanging up rags,” the king said.

His remarks were widely condemned as encouraging hatred towards foreigners, which may result in more violent behaviour towards them.

But Prince Thulani said the king won’t apologise because he stood by what he said.

“I think the people who’re complaining are misinterpreting his speech.

“He didn’t say foreigners must be attacked or harassed.

“The king was talking about foreigners who are here illegally.

“Some are involved in serious crimes like drug and human trafficking.

“We don’t need such people in our country so the king is right,” said Zulu.

The king’s speech has been strongly criticised for fuelling hatred against foreigners by the Somali Association of South Africa and the Congolese Solidarity Campaign.

The provincial government distanced itself from the king’s speech. It said it was guided by the Constitution, which guarantees human rights for all in SA.

PoliticsZimbabwe Student Body Calls For Attacks On Sa Businesses by vicostyle20(op): 8:32am On Apr 18, 2015

Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu) president Gilbert Mutubuki has called on Zimbabwean youths to retaliate against xenophobic violence in South Africa by attacking South African businesses operating in Zimbabwe.
Zinasu is Zimbabwe's largest students body which represents thousands of students at all universities and colleges across the country.
At least five people have been killed - including a teenager - and 46 people have been arrested since the violence flared in Isipingo, outside Durban on Friday in South Africa. Around 7 000 people of different nationalities are living in tents provided by the provincial government for those displaced by the violence.

Addressing journalists in Harare after an anti-xenophobia demonstration organised by Zimbabwe civic society groups at the South African Embassy, Mutubuki said it was high time the country's youths retaliated by attacking South African businesses operating in Zimbabwe such as Pick n Pay and others.
"Right now we have South African businesses such as Pick n Pay operating freely here, but our brothers are being butchered in South Africa. Today in the morning, South African students at the University of Zimbabwe were having breakfast freely in the dining hall, but our sisters and brothers are getting killed. It's high time we should do the same to all South African businesses here until they stop all this nonsense,” said an angry Mutubuki.
South Africa is home to all
Mutubuki’s call came after over 300 Zimbabwe human rights and civic society activists demonstrated at the South African embassy located in the Belgravia area in Harare this morning.
The protesters were denouncing King Goodwill Zwelithini and President Jacob Zuma son Edward, accusing the two of sparking the xenophobic violence in South Africa. There were also waving placards inscribed with messages like “South Africa is not island and should stop this nonsense” and “Stop it, South Africa”, “Africa is home to all” among others.
The demonstrators also handed over a petition to South African Embassy officials.
The protesters were later dispersed by heavily armed Zimbabwe police.
Some of the South African business operating in Zimbabwe include Pick n Pay, Edgars and Standard Bank among others.
South Africa, with a population of about 50 million, is home to an estimated five million immigrants. Over one million Zimbabweans are believed to be living in South Africa as economic or political refugees.

PoliticsSenator-elect Reportedly Indicted In 1998 For Drug Deal In US by vicostyle20(op): 7:56pm On Apr 16, 2015
Kashamu, who won the Ogun East Senatorial District seat in the March 28 elections, was said to have been smuggling heroin when he was caught, according to The Associated Press.

Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu was reportedly indicted in 1998 for drug dealing in the United States of America.
Kashamu, who won the Ogun East Senatorial District seat in the March 28 elections, was said to have been smuggling heroin when he was caught, according to The Associated Press.
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has described Kashamu as a wanted drug baron, an allegation for which he is currently embroiled in a libel suit.
AP also linked Kashamu with the hit TV series "Orange Is The New Black," saying that a court case in which he was involved was the basis for the story.
The AP report reads:

“Buruji Kashamu was little known before he returned home in 2003 from Britain despite a U.S. extradition order to become a major financier of President Goodluck Jonathan's party.”
“Kashamu, 56, hung up the phone twice when the AP called for comment about the drug case on Thursday. Kashamu has said he is "a clean businessman" and that the 1998 indictment by a grand jury in the Northern District of Illinois for conspiracy to import and distribute heroin in the United States is a case of mistaken identity. He has said Chicago prosecutors really want the dead brother he closely resembles.”
“A dozen people were long ago tried and jailed in the case, including American Piper Kerman, whose memoir about her jail time became the Netflix hit "Orange Is The New Black." Kerman's book never identified Kashamu by name, but there is a West African drug kingpin whom she calls "Alhaji," meaning one who has completed the haj or pilgrimage to Mecca.”
According to AP, a Nigerian court has ordered Kashamu’s extradition but the country’s government has not granted the order.

CelebritiesI Once Worked As A Manual Labourer – Reekado Banks by vicostyle20(op): 10:48am On Apr 16, 2015

As a prominent young Nigerian artiste, Reekado Banks has worked with the cream of the Nigerian music industry including Don Jazzy, Illbliss, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Korede Bello, Di’Ja and Wale. The story of his rise to prominence however, has not been smooth, as the Mavin Records recording artiste disclosed during a #MySuperStarStory interview.

Born Solomon Ayoleyi Hanniel, the Ondo State indigene revealed that after informing his parents of his intention to pursue a career in music and getting their blessing, he had to hawk blenders in traffic and work as a manual labourer at a construction site in a bid to earn some money to use to record.
He also revealed that at one point, a lecturer at the university told him that he will never make it after preventing him from retaking a test he missed.
His turning point came with the Mavin Records audition where he was picked out of over 5,000 hopefuls. The dreadlocked act, now popular for his ballad “Katapot” credited this triumph to God. In his words, “There is no amount of sacrifice that was enough to get me something this big.”

CelebritiesOrekoya’s Kidnapped 3 Children Found Naked In A Bag by vicostyle20(op): 9:13am On Apr 16, 2015
The children, Demola, 6; Adedamola, 4, and Aderomola, 11 months, were reportedly found in an uncompleted building in Shasha area of Akowonjo, Lagos, Tuesday night, after an undisclosed ransom was paid into an account.
According to their maternal grandfather, Senior Apostle Abraham Adekunle, the children were found naked inside a bag. No arrest has, however, been made.

The abductors, as gathered, had sent an account number of an undisclosed bank to the Orekoyas.
The children, who had been ravaged by mosquitoes, were immediately taken to police hospital, Ikeja.
When Vanguard visited the Orekoya’s home yesterday, the children and their parents were yet to arrive from the hospital. Their grandfather, Senior Apostle Adekunle, described the eight days of his grandchildren’s disappearance as one of the worst challenges he had faced in his 67 years of existence.

Grandfather’s story
According to him, “these eight days have been days of unrest for every member of my family.
“It all started after my daughter, Adebisi Orekoya, applied for a nanny through OLX (an online sales portal). On Monday (last week) one lady, who identified herself as Mary Akinloye, came for the job.
“My daughter took her to her place of work to introduce to her colleagues. Next day, Tuesday, she resumed work. But on Wednesday, she took my three grandchildren, leaving Michael, the eldest, a boarder who was on holiday, with information that she was going to get something.
“When Michael did not see Mary and his siblings, he contacted his mother by phone. My daughter in turn called her husband, who had to cut short his trip to Ibadan and return home.
“We went to Surulere division and Area ‘F’ to incident the case. Efforts to reach Mary on her phone proved abortive, as it was switched off. But she called next day to say she was with the children and demanded for ransom of N15 million.
“Since then we have been running from pillar to post looking for how to raise the money. Public-spirited Nigerians, family members and friends contributed.
“Aside that, we did not relent in prayers. There was no church around this area that I did not visit for prayers. In fact, in one of the prayer sessions, prophesy came that we would find the children today (yesterday).
“I have nothing else to say than to thank God for sparing the lives of my grandchildren.”
Also, elder sister to Mr. Lere Orekoya, Mrs Adesunbo Alabi, stated that when news of the disappearance of her nephews reached her, it was like a dream.
“At first , it seemed like a home theatre movie. I never believed until I came and saw my brother’s wife crying. I really appreciate my brother’s courage during this period because he encouraged us not to cry, that anything that happens to one in life is for a purpose.
“My joy knows no bounds today because the abductors demanded for money, where other victims were killed.”
Hospitalized
When Vanguard visited the hospital , Mr. Orekoya was seen rocking Aderomola, the youngest child, to sleep with a lullaby: Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream.
While Aderomola was on drip, the other two were playing.
The children described the kidnappers’ hideout as their new home, saying Mary cooked the meal they ate.
Efforts to get their parents’ reaction, yesterday, initially proved abortive as they said it was not a day for explanation.
Mr. Orekoya, however, said the family would brief the press at their home today.
After much persuasion, he simply stated that the rescue of his children was an indication that prayers worked.
“In one word, I will say that prayer works. We are happy that they are alive and well,“ he said.
OLX response
After days of silence from OLX, the online sales portal, where Mrs Adebisi Orekoya, applied for a nanny through an advert, finally responded by describing the situation as unfortunate.
OLX Country Manager, Lola Masha, in an online statement, yesterday, said: “OLX is an online classified site that brings buyers and sellers together to promote trade.
“We take steps to moderate and review all adverts, but we do not participate in the negotiations between buyers and sellers.
“Transactions are performed directly between both parties. In all our marketing campaign, we continuously urge our users to take necessary precautionary checks when using OLX.
“We sincerely hope that the three kids are returned safely to their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we will provide all help within our capacity to facilitate the quick reunion of the children with their family.
“We continue to innovate and improve our review process with tighter measures that would help to minimize future occurrence of negative incidents.
“We also need our users to help us kick out bad players and ask them to report any dubious activity or user on the site for immediate action.”

PoliticsAregbesola Gives Osun Residents One Week Ultimatum To Submit Illegal Guns by vicostyle20(op): 6:24pm On Apr 15, 2015
https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Rauf-Aregbesola.jpg
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has given those in possession of illegal arm and ammunition in the state a seven- day ultimatum to either surrender the weapons or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s media aide, Semiu Okanlawon in Osogbo on Tuesday, Aregbesola gave the ultimatum while receiving the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry he set up to look into the crisis between Ipetumodu and Ashipa communities.

It would be recalled that the two communities had earlier in the year engaged in skirmishes, which led to the burning down of some houses. Some persons were also reported to have sustained varying degree of injuries during the clashes.

The governor said, “People with illegal weapons should voluntarily submit them to relevant authorities in not more than one week from now before government begins to fish them out.
“People should live to the dictate of the law, our government will after the one week ultimatum embarks on house-to-house search for illegal weapons so that the state can have peace.
“Whoever is caught after the one week deadline will face the full wrath of the law because we are not in a stone age. The state will care for the weak. We are admonishing the strong to be mindful of those that are not strong”.
Aregbesola also called on politicians and persons with those he called “Private Army” and guards in the state to immediately disband them.
He warned that the state was entering into an era where it would be strict on the maintenance of the rule of law, peace and order.
Earlier, Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Ipetumodu-Ashipa communal crisis, Justice Olajide Falola, said the panel discovered that the axis was flooded with light and small arms.
He said, “We have virtually resolved the dispute between the two communities, especially the market day issue and boundary. We have also recommended that some persons be investigated for possible prosecution.
“There is a proliferation of arms and ammunition in the axis of the two communities. Those in possession of guns are reportedly being protected by elites in the society. We have recommended that police should take steps to clean up the area of these dangerous weapons”.

The New York Times article, titled “We will stop Boko Haram” was published on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.

Nigeria’s President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has written an opinion article for the New York Times.
The article, titled “We will stop Boko Haram” was published on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.
Read the full text below:

When Boko Haram attacked a school in the town of Chibok, in northeastern Nigeria, kidnapping more than 200 girls, on the night of April 14, 2014, the people of my country were aghast. Across the world, millions of people joined them in asking: How was it possible for this terrorist group to act with such impunity? It took nearly two weeks before the government even commented on the crime.
This lack of reaction was symptomatic of why the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was swept aside last month — the first time an incumbent president has been successfully voted out of office in the history of our nation. For too long they ruled, not governed, and in doing so had become so focused on their own self-interest and embroiled in corruption that the duty to react to the anguish suffered by their citizens had become alien to them.
My administration, which will take office on May 29, will act differently — indeed it is the very reason we have been elected. This must begin with honesty as to whether the Chibok girls can be rescued. Currently their whereabouts remain unknown. We do not know the state of their health or welfare, or whether they are even still together or alive. As much as I wish to, I cannot promise that we can find them: to do so would be to offer unfounded hope, only to compound the grief if, later, we find we cannot match such expectation. But I say to every parent, family member and friend of the children that my government will do everything in its power to bring them home.
What I can pledge, with absolute certainty, is that from the first day of my administration, Boko Haram will know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror, and bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas. Until now, Nigeria has been wanting in its response to their threat: With our neighbors fighting hard to push the terrorists south and out of their countries, our military was not sufficiently supported or equipped to push north. As a consequence, the outgoing government’s lack of determination was an accidental enabler of the group, allowing them to operate with impunity in Nigerian territory.
That is why the answer to defeating Boko Haram begins and ends with Nigeria. That is not to say that allies cannot help us. My administration would welcome the resumption of a military training agreement with the United States, which was halted during the previous administration. We must, of course, have better coordination with the military campaigns our African allies, like Chad and Niger, are waging in the struggle against Boko Haram. But, in the end, the answer to this threat must come from within Nigeria.
We must start by deploying more troops to the front and away from civilian areas in central and southern Nigeria where for too long they have been used by successive governments to quell dissent. We must work closer with our neighbors in coordinating our military efforts so an offensive by one army does not see their country’s lands rid of Boko Haram only to push it across the border onto their neighbors’ territory.
But as our military pushes Boko Haram back, as it will, we must be ready to focus on what else must be done to counter the terrorists. We must address why it is that young people join Boko Haram.
It is good to learn that Buhari comprehends the urgency of defeating Boko Haram. I am also happy to read that he understands that safety in...
There are many reasons why vulnerable young people join militant groups, but among them are poverty and ignorance. Indeed Boko Haram — which translates in English, roughly, as “Western Education Is Sinful” — preys on the perverted belief that the opportunities that education brings are sinful. If you are starving and young, and in search of answers as to why your life is so difficult, fundamentalism can be alluring. We know this for a fact because former members of Boko Haram have admitted it: They offer impressionable young people money and the promise of food, while the group’s mentors twist their minds with fanaticism.
So we must be ready to offer the parts of our country affected by this group an alternative. Boosting education will be a direct counterbalance to Boko Haram’s appeal. In particular we must educate more young girls, ensuring they will grow up to be empowered through learning to play their full part as citizens of Nigeria and pull themselves up and out of poverty. Indeed, we owe it to the schoolgirls of Chibok to provide as best an education as possible for their fellow young citizens.
Boko Haram feeds off despair. It feeds off a lack of hope that things can improve. By attacking a site of learning, and kidnapping more than 200 schoolgirls, it sought to strike at the very place where hope for the future is nurtured, and the promise of a better Nigeria. It is our intention to show Boko Haram that it will not succeed.
My government will first act to defeat it militarily and then ensure that we provide the very education it despises to help our people help themselves. Boko Haram will soon learn that, as Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Chadian troops who recaptured Damasak Town in Borno State from Boko Haram have said that Nigerian soldiers are afraid to reclaim the town.
The foreign soldiers, who are part of an anti-terrorist multinational force, chased the insurgents out of Damasak on Sunday, March 15 after a two-day battle.
However, despite several calls for the Nigerian military to retake possession of the town, no soldiers have showed up.

“We asked them to come, to receive this town from us, but they have not come,” Second Lt. Mohammed Hassan said, according to the New York Times.
“We fought on the night of the 14th, and the last attack was on the 15. As for the Nigerians, “we called them on the 16th” — after the fight for Damasak had ended — “and told them to come; they didn’t believe we were here. It is because they are afraid,”Hassan added.
“The Nigerian Army has not succeeded in facing up to Boko Haram. The occupation of these towns, this is up to Nigeria. My fondest wish is that they assume their responsibilities… We are ready to disengage, right away,” Chad’s foreign minister,Moussa Faki Mahamat said in confirmation.
“It is up to them to hold the town, not us. Our role is offensive. Our mission is to chase the terrorists. But they are afraid,”Lieutenant Hassan repeated.
Chad has spearheaded the recovery of many towns from Boko Haram after the multinational force, which also consists of troops from Niger and Cameroon, was formed.

"For €500 (£350) you have fun, I get a baby."
"Men are so immature all they think about is themselves.I am a mature, independent woman and I want a baby - not a man who behaves like one, but a proper one."
Several responses later, she said:
"So far I am not impressed with the responses as I get the impression they are not taking it seriously."

PoliticsI Can Never Forgive Buhari-afenifere Leader by vicostyle20(op): 11:16pm On Mar 21, 2015
Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, says he can never forgive the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), because of the sins he committed against Yoruba leaders while he was head of state between December 1983 and August 1985.
https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Adebanjo.jpg
The 87-year-old, who was a close associate of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, said Buhari locked up all the Yoruba governors after overthrowing the Shehu Shagari government.
Adebanjo said this at a post-National Conference in Lagos titled, ‘Into tomorrow and beyond’ on Thursday.
He said, “Back then, Awolowo warned Shagari that his government would soon hit the rock if he did not put things in order. Shortly after, in December 1983, Buhari overthrew the government but the man that was speaking against Shagari (Awolowo), was harrassed by Buhari.
“Buhari picked up all the Yoruba governors: Adekunle Ajasin (Ondo State); Olabisi Onabanjo (Ogun) and others, who were true progressives and locked them up.

“Somebody said I am a Christian and I should forgive Buhari but I said I cannot forgive such. Ajasin’s children say they have forgiven Buhari but I am not in their party, I can’t forgive him.”
Adebanjo said the North was against the implementation of the resolutions of the confab because the region was enjoying the system which is unfavourable to southern Nigeria.
He, therefore, urged Yoruba to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan next week as he had promised to implement the report of the confab.
He also dismissed claims that he and other Afenifere leaders had been bribed by Jonathan.
He said, “I am saying vote Jonathan not because he is Ijaw or from the South-South. No northerner will convoke a national conference because everything we are talking of that has been unfavourable to the South; they (North) are the beneficiaries.”

Nollywood film-maker and critic, Charles Novia and Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola, hardly have anything in common and, as such, rarely have their paths crossing. But the prevailing political atmosphere in the country engendered by support for either President Goodluck Jonathan or General Muhammadu Buhari may have turned the duo into gladiators set for each other’s jugular on the political arena.

While Charles is a die-hard supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, Foluke Daramola pitches her tent with the Buhari group. Trouble started between them when Charles stated on the Naijahottest social platform that 99% of entertainers are in support of President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid. In reaction to the statement, Foluke said it could not be unless Charles was making up figure in mere fantasy.

When artistes collectively endorse a person or join hands in the majority to support a cause, the Heavens listen and join. Those within the fold who leave the line make their choices and Freudian slips. They become tragic heroes or comic villains. I respect the choices the 1% on the other side of the divide have made but when it comes to GEJ, the entertainment sector is fully in the majority in support of him” stated Charles Novia.

Foluke Daramola on the other hand would not have any of the statement as she curtly slammed Charles for his statement and reaffirmed her support for Buhari.

“You are obviously wrong with that maybe that’s a figment of your imagination. You can’t make collective statement on behalf of everyone. On the contrary, many of us voluntarily support Buhari. In the time of OBJ we knew how he favoured artistes even without him giving us a dime but in GEJ’s time, all of us are being wooed by appointments, money and recognition in Aso Rock. A lot of us feel we need someone that would teach us how to fish, not one that would always give us fish. True value can never be bought with money. So, Mr Charles Novia don’t make collective statement because people like us that have values don’t take it lightly” she fires back.

But Charles Novia would not back down as he fired back:

“ Daramola, obviously you are part of the 1%. My points on the subject suffices. Is it an old man who has 150 cows as an asset who will teach you how to fish in his old age? Sorry o. Many of us will stick to the tested fisherman from Otueke who knows how to catch fish and can teach us too”

20 year-old Isaac Martinez was shot in the chest by a shooter in Arizona after he refused to give up the keys to his car. Instead of him to immediately call for help, Martinez decided to first take a selfie of his bullet wound and posted it to social sharing site Snapchat.
When the suspected shooter, Ryan Giroux, approached Martinez demanding the keys to his car, he refused and Giroux fired at him. For anyone who didn’t get enough detail from the photos, Martinez gave his 1,200 Facebook friends a point-by-point account of how the shooting went down. “He (the suspect) came in and demanded my keys for a getaway car. Of course i said no, and next was him pulling out a gun and cocking it. Soon as i saw it i started stepping back. And yelled for everyone to step back and get down.
Next thing i knew i was hitting the ground, got up as fast as i fell, and ran out the back exit. At the same time the assailant had started taking off in my chef instructors [sic] car. When i saw he had gone. I noticed the cops and fire trucks down the street and went there.”He followed up the picture with an update of how he was doing.
“So im home and well! I have no complicated injuries and should heal fine,” Martinez’s Facebook posts says. “I had a bullet hit me from behind and go through my shoulder and out my collar area. Any higher or lower it coulda hit a artery, or shatter my shoulder blade. It was a miracle hit.”
Martinez continued to update his social media followers throughout his recovery, posting a picture of himself in a hospital bed, with the gunshot wound visibly showing. Martinez is living proof that if getting shot doesn’t pull someone away from his phone, nothing will.

PoliticsStep By Step Process For Voting by vicostyle20(op): 10:25pm On Mar 20, 2015
Nigerians turning out to vote on March 28 and April 11 will follow almost the same steps in exercising their preference on voting day.
On March 28 voters will be voting for three offices, namely, presidential, Senate and House of Representatives.
However, the election on April 11 will be for the office of governor in 29 states and House of Assembly in all 36 states of the federation. The states where governorship elections will not hold are Bayelsa, Kogi, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Anambra and Edo states.
It will, however, be a total holiday for voters in the Federal Capital City given that the territory neither has a governor nor a legislative House.
On the two voting days, polls are expected to open as from 8.00 a.m. when accreditation of voters will commence.

STEP 1. As soon as the voter arrives at the polling unit, he will present his voter card to the presiding officer who will carry out the process of verification, identification and authentication using the card reader. The card reader will prop up the bio-data of the voter including his picture and finger prints.
This first step would authenticate the voter card to be genuine or not. If genuine, the voter would be passed on to the next stage.
If not genuine, the possessor of the voter card would be asked to leave the polling station and failure to adhere to the instruction would prompt the presiding officer at the station to order security men to arrest or compel the person to leave the polling station.

STEP 2. If the card reader authenticates the voter as having an authentic voter card, he will be taken through the next step of the accreditation process which is to biometric exercise which is to confirm that the person with the valid voter card really owns the card.
This process would involve placing either the index finger or thumb at the top of the card reader for the purpose of matching the finger print with the one embedded in the voter card. Then he will be certified for voting.
Given the experience from the mock exercise penultimate Saturday, it would be expected that some fingerprints may not be read.
In such cases based on the judgment of the presiding officer, such persons who fail the biometrics would be passed on to the next stage of voting but note will be taken of such cases in an incident form available at the station.
All voters accredited to vote will be given a number based on when they were accredited.

STEP 3. At the end of accreditation officially by 1 pm, voting will begin and the supervisory presiding officer and his assistants will then arrange the voters in an orderly manner beginning from the first person to arrive the voting area.

STEP 4. The voter will mention the number which was given to him during the accreditation and this will guide the presiding officer to check through the INEC register to cross check that it was still the same person that was accredited that has turned up to vote.

STEP 5. If confirmed that the person was the same person accredited earlier, the presiding officer will issue him a ballot paper to go and exercise his franchise.
On March 28, voters will be issued three ballot papers one each for the presidential, senatorial and house of representative elections. The ballot papers are customized for each position. The presidential ballot is red, senatorial ballot is black while the House of Representatives ballot is green in colour.

STEP 6. Three ballot boxes would be provided each for the three elections and they are also customized in line with the ballot papers. The voter will cast his ballot in respect of the ballot paper.

STEP 7. After the last voter on the queue would have cast his ballots, the presiding officer will begin with the process of sorting of the ballots from the three ballot boxes and dropped in their rightful places that is the presidential, senatorial and house of representatives.
Previous regulation
Based on a new regulation exclusively published by Vanguard last Wednesday, INEC has altered its procedures for counting. Under the previous regulation ballot papers placed in the wrong boxes were to be discarded and rejected.
That is if a voter places a Senate ballot paper in a House of Representatives ballot box it would be discarded. However, the commission has now altered the regulation to allow wrongly placed ballot papers to be sorted into the correct box.
Following that the ballots for the different parties would be sorted and counted.

STEP 8. The voter is expected to wait if he or she likes for the counting and announcement of the outcome of the election; but voters must do so in an atmosphere of peace. However, any voter who wants to leave after voting is equally free to do so.

STEP 9: At the end of the counting, the presiding officer would announce the result at the polling station and place the results in a conspicuous place around the station.

The Presidential Candidate of the NCP, Martin Onovo, says he is “the President in waiting if the 2015 presidential election is free, fair and credible”.
Mr. Onovo made the assertion in Lagos on Thursday while speaking with a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“We are the oldest party in Nigeria and we are the party of the Nigerian people.
“There is no party that can defeat NCP in a free and fair election.
“If you compare us with other parties in Nigeria, NCP cannot be defeated, if the election is contested according to the law and votes counted, I am the president-in-waiting.
“There is no question about it that I am the president in waiting”, the youthful presidential hopeful said.

According to him, the general elections present the country a golden opportunity to make the right decisions.
“There is no doubt that the quality of leadership we get determines how well we manage our challenges”, he stated.
Mr. Onovo urged political leaders to comply with the nation’s electoral laws to foster the development of democracy.
On the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and card readers, the presidential candidate said that the PVCs and card readers would increase the integrity of the elections.
“After the field test of PVCs and card readers conducted by INEC and the promises made by INEC to address all the issues raised, we feel more confident about the PVCs and card readers.
“We want the PVCs to be used but we don’t want them to fail because if they fail it is as good as not using them.
“So we call on INEC to make sure that the card readers don’t fail.
“We are sure that what we have currently is not democracy, so the PVCs, if properly and effectively used, will lead us to democracy”, he said.
Mr. Onovo said that rigging an election is worse than a military coup, arguing that the card reader would eliminate electoral fraud.
On the deployment of soldiers for elections, Mr. Onovo said that the court judgment against the use of the military should be appealed by INEC.
“The military has always supported internal security operations during elections. I find the court judgment queer.
“But because we believe in the rule of law, that judgment must be respected, what INEC needs to do is to go to the superior court and vacate that judgment.
“If we are going to have resemblance of an election, we need very robust security so military back up should be there.
“I have no objection to military presence during the polls.
“So that court judgment should be vacated. INEC needs to appeal that judgment if they have not done so”, he said.
According to him, the NCP will abolish poverty in the country by providing employment and social services to reduce the cost of living.
Mr. Onovo said the party had offered to increase the minimum wage by reducing the maximum wage.
He said that the party would not align with any other party but must stand by its fundamental values of truth, integrity, justice and national development.
The presidential hopeful urged the media to be fair, objective and faithful to its constitutional mandate.

PoliticsWoman Narrates Ordeal In Boko Haram Camp, Knows The Where-about Of Chibok Girls by vicostyle20(op): 9:37pm On Mar 18, 2015
Maryamu Bala, 67, from Madagali, Adamawa state, has said she knows where the Chibok girls might be, based on information she got while in captivity.

https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/origs3579994/023169501-w308-h960/boko-haram-escapee.jpg

She narrated her experience to the Media, saying: “My son, I saw devils, I saw cannibals and people who can do anything in the name of religion. My first three weeks in that camp also opened my eyes to the fact that the place is for training recruits as foot soldiers. We saw helicopters dropping things in cartons; heavy objects were always being unloaded using the captured victims under very hash instructions.”

People every day going into the other part of the building amidst tight security. Some of the people resembled Arabs with long hairs, while some are pure white coming around having series of meetings.

“A girl who is one of the maids confided in me, ‘Mama, you see the other side of the camp is where Abubakar Shekau and top commandants are living. There are many girls of our age there, even me, they don’t allow me to go there’.

“When that young girl said that to me, I quickly remembered the story of the abducted Chibok school girls. Though I did not see them, my spirit told me they are in that camp.”

“They gave us Muslim veils and told us we were no longer Christians. They taught me to be meditating on a portion of the Koran daily… It surprised me so much that their kind of Islam is different with the one I know many of my relations are practicing in Madagali. They taught us to be worshiping at periods different from those I used to see my people observing when they are to pray. At times, East is not a compulsory direction of worship.”

“In the night, a man I never met walked up to where we were sleeping and told us, ‘I saw you crying yesterday and it touched my heart. I was kidnapped just like you for more than four years. But don’t worry, I will help you to escape —you and your daughter this night.”

“My brother, we trekked in that evil forest until my strength failed me. When that man noticed I no longer had strength, he backed me. We trekked close to 30km till we got to a fenced place… from where the man said goodbye and we trekked for five days to reach Yola Adamawa State.”

She is convinced she can locate the girls because she is very familiar with the terrain as she used to fetch firewood there as a girl.

CelebritiesSilverbird Staff Death Update: Eyewitness Gives Account On Stabbed Lady by vicostyle20(op): 6:33pm On Mar 18, 2015
There has been more update on the pregnant staff of Silverbird Television that was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend.

More revelations are beginning to be unveiled concerning the gruesome murder of Aisha Noble-Mustapha, the Silverbird TV staff who was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at her Ogudu GRA, Lagos, neighbourhood.
The shocking killing of the lady has drawn up a lot of condemnation, especially as she was pregnant but a witness who saw the attack has come out with more facts on what could have transpired.
The eyewitness narrated thus:

"It happened around 8pm on Saturday night. She had gone in after returning from work, and then this man visited her. No one paid attention until we started hearing arguments.
The guy also resides in the estate, he is a married man and we could hear her threatening him, saying she will tell his wife about the pregnancy she had for him.
The man was shouting back, and he got angry when she said she will report to his wife…. but after a while, the argument stopped and there was no more shouting.
Moments later, she ran out of the house with scars all over her body, and while running she fell into the gutter.
That was when neighbors found her. She was still breathing so she was rushed to a specialist hospital along Ogudu road then to the General Hospital in Gbagada, but no one wanted to admit her without a police report…
it was when she was taken to the police station, that she gave up the ghost.
We saw a knife with blood in the compound but by the time the police came to pick up the knife, they didn’t see it again, someone had taken it but I don’t know who.
The guy (married man) was with neighbors all through, running up and down with the good Samaritans but he has now been arrested and is now in detention at Area F Police station close to the estate.
This is so sad; she was a young promising and beautiful woman, she lost her sister just last year. It’s like it is the guy that rented the apartment for her."
