PoliticsDelta 2015: It’s Either Prof. Monye Or Nobody – General Sele by Visocrate(op): 9:23pm On Sep 22, 2014
Ex-Freedom Fighters under the aegis, “Operation Save Delta Equity
2015” whose leaders have argued that it is in the interest of the
Delta state for Professor Sylvester Monye to contest 2015 governorship
election.
To ensure that he enters the gubernatorial race, the group has
earmarked N10.5 million to purchase gubernatorial form for Professor
Sylvester Monye when he eventually declares to contest the
gubernatorial election in the state.
Executives of “Operation Save Delta Equity 2015” Campaign Organisation
made their readiness known during a courtesy call on Deltans in
Bayelsa state on Sunday at the Creek Motels in Yenagoa.
The NGO, known to be one of the Professor Monye support canvassers
reiterated that PDP must win the governorship election in the interest
of fairness, equity and justice in Delta state, adding that they are
taking the message to all Deltan both within and outside the country.
Addressing the gathering, General Dick Sele said though the political
terrain was known to be tough and rough they believed in Professor
Monye’s ability to weather the storm, especially as the terrain was
akin to slander, backbiting, betrayal and other vices, which he
described as necessary obstacles to refine and define a true leader.
The ex-freedom fighters further said that the possible flag bearing of
Professor Sylvester Monye under the platform of the Peoples Democratic
Party is certain for the fact that, Delta south which comprises the
Ijaws, Isoko and Itsekiri that have produced the present governor Dr.
Emmanuel Eweta Uduangha.
They further buttress their point that in the Delta central that only
comprised the Uhrobos has equally produced former governor James
Onanefe Ibori, stressing that the Delta North has not seen the light
of the day in term of being governor in the state.
They said it is a society where the rights of others are taking in to
cognizance where in the true spirit of equity, fairness and justice in
the state politics that can bring mutual understanding among various
ethnic groups.
“Since Professor Sylvester Monye is from the Delta North that have not
produced governor in the state be supported and given the chance to
run as the next governor in the state. He came from a humble
background and made the governor, the people of Delta will feel and
touch the even distribution of projects that will have direct bearing
of the electorate.
Being a technocrat that transverse the world with brilliant ideas to
move the state economy to the next level where electorates will be
self reliance with their daily life and stands the right choice of the
people. We should keep sentiment apart and do the right thing that
will better our generation in choosing the next governor. As a strong
party supporter, we are optimistic that the Peoples Democratic Party
will not hesitate by allowing Professor Sylvester Monye to fly the
party flag in next year election in the state”, the group lamented.
They called on other aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) in the state to work for Professor Sylvester Monye to actualize
Delta state collective dream.
Earlier, the Delta state Union in Bayelsa headed by Olorongun David
Edewor said the race for the governorship position was open and
stressed the need for Anioma sons and daughters to aspire for the top
seat.
Olorongun Edewor said though Professor Sylvester Monye hails from
Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State. Being
the current Special Adviser to the President on Performance Monitoring
and Evaluation, his wealth of experience will come to bear if made as
the governor in the state.
