PoliticsOndo ADC Crisis Worsens As Party’s Vice Chairman Resigns by Vixlot(op): 4:38pm On Apr 10
The Vice Chairman says his reason for resigning from his membership of the party was due to the "irreconcilable differences over the leadership crisis bedevilling the ADC."

The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State has worsened with the resignation of the Vice Chairman of the party in the state, Eric Oluwole.

‎In his resignation letter dated 3 April, Mr Oluwole said he resigned after “wide consultation” with all his political associates.

‎In a letter addressed to the ADC Chairman, Ward 7, in Ondo West, he said his reason for resigning from the party was the “irreconcilable differences over the leadership crisis bedevilling the ADC.”

‎” Sadly, this lingering crisis, which I did not bargain for, is beyond my understanding,” he said. ” And I can no longer cope with this unsettling development in my political career, which indeed is a threat to our country, Nigeria’s political stability and development.”

‎Mr Oluwole said he and his political allies would be moving away with his structure to pursue their future political career elsewhere in a more conducive environment.

‎”It should be noted that readiness to forgive one another, and to peacefully reconcile whatever differences, with a strong commitment towards forging unity are necessities in any political party that genuinely wishes to meaningfully contribute to the political and socioeconomic development of our dear country Nigeria,” he stated.

‎”Regrettably, where these qualities are lacking in any political party, the members will be working in vain, no matter their individual commitment, and how good their intention, or programmes.

‎”Due to these irreconcilable differences over the said leadership crisis in which the party is enmeshed, I hereby officially resign my membership of the ADC.”

‎There had been altercations among the party’s leaders in the state over who controls its structure.

‎A leader of the party, Myson Nejo, who was the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the November 2024 gubernatorial election, accused some former members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of attempting to hijack the party structure in the state for their own political agenda.

‎He declared that the ADC in Ondo State does not belong to Atiku Abubakar and will not be ceded to him, insisting that the party must remain independent and inclusive of all tendencies within its fold.

‎Mr Nejo also attributed the ongoing internal crisis rocking the party to some defectors from the opposition PDP in Ondo, alleging that they are attempting to seize control of the party machinery with what he described as “arrogance and a predetermined agenda.”

Following a court decision on leadership at the centre, the Ondo State ADC had to suspend its planned ward, local government and state congresses, as directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
‎
‎According to the statement, the decision was taken in compliance with INEC’s directive that political parties maintain the status quo pending the resolution of ongoing issues.

‎The development follows a recent decision by INEC to delist some national leaders of the party, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, from its records in compliance with a court order directing the commission to maintain the status quo.

Thanks to @BolajiADC for the additional evidence on this ADC palaver.

However, having looked through them, I would advise the ADC coalition to just move on to another platform. They well & truly bungled things (as captured in my 12 observations below) & can’t prevail in court.

TROOPS SWIFT RESPONSE FOIL TERRORIST ATTACK, RESCUE 31 HOSTAGES IN KADUNA CHURCH ATTACK

Troops of the Nigerian Army, through a swift response, have successfully foiled a terrorist attack leading to the rescue of 31 civilians abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko Village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The swift response followed a distress call reporting the abduction of worshippers during an Easter service at an ECWA Church in Ariko Village. The troops, on receipt of the information, promptly mobilised to the scene. With the support and guidance of members of the Ariko community, they advanced in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists and engaged the criminals in a fierce firefight, overwhelming them with superior firepower. The pressure mounted by the advancing troops forced the terrorists to abandon 31 hostages, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical attention.

Regrettably, the remains of five victims already killed by the terrorists were also recovered at the scene. The fleeing terrorists are believed to have sustained significant casualties, as evidenced by blood trails along their escape routes.

Troops have since intensified pursuit operations to track the fleeing elements to their enclaves, with ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing any remaining captives and ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice.

To consolidate the gains recorded, additional troops have been deployed to the area to reinforce ongoing operations, enhance security presence, and prevent further threats to lives and property.

The Nigerian Army reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the protection of citizens and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity, in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders. Troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive operations against all threats to national security.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information, as collective vigilance remains vital to achieving enduring peace and stability.

PoliticsPeter Jiya, Senator Representing Niger South, Decamped From PDP To APC by Vixlot(op): 2:48pm On Mar 31
The lawmaker representing Niger South, Senator Peter Jiya, on Tuesday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, citing deepening internal disputes within his former party.

The defection, which adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, was formally conveyed in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Tuesday.

In the letter, Jiya stated that he had resigned his membership of the PDP with effect from March 10.

“I wish to notify you and the Senate that I have resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party effective today,” the letter read.

Explaining the reason for his decision, the lawmaker pointed to unresolved internal conflicts within the party.

“This action is premised on quarrels and irreconcilable divisions within the party,” he said.

Jiya further announced his decision to continue his political career under the APC.

He also expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve.

“Also, kindly take further notice that effective today I have decided to join and be associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to continue my political career.

“Permit me, Mr President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, my profound gratitude to the PDP for availing me the opportunity to serve the nation and humanity.

“I am grateful and wish the party well in the future if it can resolve its challenges,” he added.

Jiya’s defection underscores persistent factional tensions within the PDP, which have triggered a series of high-profile exits in recent months, while bolstering the APC’s numerical strength in the Senate.

The development comes barely 24 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission formally recognised a faction of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The move was confirmed as INEC updated the PDP’s leadership structure on its official website, listing members of the party’s national executive.

Among those recognised by INEC are Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, alongside other key officials.

Both Mohammed and Anyanwu emerged from the PDP National Convention held on Sunday night at the velodrome of the National Stadium in Abuja, where members of the NWC were re-elected by consensus following the dissolution of the party’s National Caretaker Committee.

PoliticsI Am Not In A Position To Oppose Tinubu’s Candidacy – Otti by Vixlot(op): 5:31am On Mar 28
I am not in a position to oppose Tinubu’s candidacy – Otti

The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, says he is not in a position to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy come the 2027 general elections.

Otti stated this on Friday during the March edition of his monthly media chat, following a recent statement by the member representing Isialangwa North and South in the National Assembly, Ginger Onwusibe, who said the state governor would not oppose Tinubu’s re-election.

Reaffirming the statement, Otti said, “I am not in a position to oppose the candidacy of the President. I am not running for President.

“Why would I oppose his presidency? I am also seeking a second term. So would it be appropriate for me to rationalise my answer and say that somebody else should not have his? So it has nothing to do with APC/PDP, or whatever you call it. It is a natural thing.

“Again, sometimes people, when they want to claim opposition, try to heat up the system by creating in their imagination problems that do not exist. Once you are in a government, it is the federal government, it is the sub-nationals and then it is the local government. I have always said that it is in principle one and the same government.

“We see it at every National Economic Council meeting. I may not agree with everything, but once a decision has been taken, I have to go by it. That is how democracy works.

Democracy is government of the people, for the people and by the people. The majority of the people must have their way, but the minority will have its say. So sometimes some of the problems that people are trying to create is because they don’t understand or they have interests that are beyond the interests of the people.

“Those interests that we call selfish interests. When they begin to push selfish interests, they come up with narratives that cannot stand scrutiny.”

On whether he is still in the Labour Party or has concluded plans to defect based on the problems in its hierarchy, the governor said, “The Labour Party had a problem, but that problem has been resolved by the Supreme Court. And INEC has also respected the decision of the Supreme Court.

“So the party is back on its feet and will be strong very soon. As we speak, registration is ongoing. And those who haven’t registered should please register. You still have a window to register.

“We will be having our congresses leading all the way to the convention any time from now. So, in the light of this superior information, the question about defecting does not arise.”
