The National Police Council has unanimously endorsed the appointment of Olatunji Disu as substantive Inspector-General of Police.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed this to our correspondent after the council’s meeting at the State House, Abuja, which lasted about 40 minutes.

Yes, they have unanimously endorsed Disu as IGP,” Onanuga said

PUNCH Online reports that Monday’s gathering began at about 2:15 pm when Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber.

Three US fighter jets accidentally shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses, military says

Three US fighter jets went down “due to an apparent friendly fire incident,” the US military has announced.

Kuwaiti air defenses accidentally shot the F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets down late Sunday ET time, the statement went on to say.

“During active combat—that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones — the U.S. Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses,” a statement from US Central Command said. “All six aircrew ejected safely, have been safely recovered, and are in stable condition. Kuwait has acknowledged this incident, and we are grateful for the efforts of the Kuwaiti defense forces and their support in this ongoing operation.”

The cause of the incident is under investigation, according to CENTCOM. The jets were flying in support of the military operation against Iran, dubbed Operation Epic Fury.

Kuwait’s Minister of Defense said in the early hours of Monday morning that “several” US fighter jets crashed

PoliticsPolitics Of Performance: A Carnival Of Clowns Masquerading As Opposition by Vixlot(op): 9:15pm On Feb 28
1. Rauf Aregbesola was busy singing orin ote from Ilesha to Ede, completely abandoning his primary duty as the party’s secretary—to fast-track membership registration and digitalisation. His campaign videos flooded social media, while his Northern admirers confidently assured us he would “deliver the South-West” for the coalition. Spectacle over substance.

2. Rotimi Amaechi roamed the country performing hunger—lamenting his suffering while theatrically buying roasted corn by the roadside.

3. Peter Obi, the groundnuts merchant on the other hand, moved from one Catholic nursing school to another, donating ₦5 million per stop, smiling for the cameras, while his supporters chanted “Obi is coming” as if slogans substitute for strategy.

4. Atiku Abubakar oscillated between Isa Pantami and Abubakar Malami, offering public confessions of regret—an endless political repentance tour with no tangible recalibration.

5. All this while, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Ireti Kingibe sat comfortably in the Senate, observing debates on the amended Independent National Electoral Commission Act without apparently reading the bill. Instead, they positioned themselves for social-media optics, backing paid street clowns protesting “live transmission” in a paper-based electoral system. Performance politics at its worst.

6. Bolaji Abdullahi has remained predictably consistent—churning out long epistles opposing anything associated with the All Progressives Congress, mistaking verbosity for vision.

7. Nasir El-Rufai oscillates between moral outrage and selective amnesia—suddenly discovering democratic principles only after losing proximity to power, while rewriting his own authoritarian past in real time.

8. Aisha Yesufu, appointed as member of membership registration committee in January, continues to dominate timelines with emotional outbursts and performative activism—substituting noise, insults, and moral grandstanding for structure, organisation, or political depth.

In the end, all of them share the same delusion: that power in 2027 will be handed to them by the government they refuse to out-organise, out-think, or out-work. No grassroots machinery. No serious coalition building. No institutional penetration.

Just noise.
Just theatrics.
Just clowns.

TravelRehabilitation Works On The Sagamu–ijebu Ode–ore–benin Expressway Are Advancing by Vixlot(op): 8:15pm On Feb 28
Rehabilitation works on the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode–Ore–Benin Expressway are advancing steadily, transforming one of Nigeria’s most important transport corridors. From the Sagamu Interchange through Ijebu Ode toward Ore and Benin City, major reconstruction activities are ongoing across multiple sections.

Steel reinforcement placement is underway in several stretches, followed by concrete pavement works designed for long-term strength and durability. Earthworks, grading, and sub-base preparation are progressing ahead of the paving teams to maintain continuous workflow. In many areas, one carriageway is already completed and carrying live traffic, while the opposite side undergoes full reconstruction.

Drainage infrastructure is being installed alongside the pavement works to prevent water damage and extend the lifespan of the road. Once fully delivered, this reinforced concrete highway will enhance safety, improve travel comfort, reduce vehicle operating costs, and strengthen economic connectivity between Ogun, Ondo, and Edo States.

Anambra Court Jails Orient Petroleum MD, Two Others 14 Years for N25billion Fraud

Justice O. M. Anyachebelu of the Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka has convicted and sentenced Engineer Nnaemeka Nwawka, managing director, Orient Petroleum Resources Plc, Jude Anniekwe Cyril and Sage Nebefeife Foundation to fourteen years imprisonment each for stealing, conversion and gratification to the tune of N25billion.

They were jailed after being found guilty of ten-count charges bordering on stealing, conversion and gratification.

Count one of the charges reads: “That you NNAEMEKA NWAWKA, JUDE ANNIEKWE CYRIL and THE REGISTERED TRUSTEES OF SAGE NEBEIFE FOUNDATION sometimes between 23rd April to 21st December, 2012 in Anambra State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court fraudulently converted to your personal use the aggregate sum of N82,856,934 (Eighty Two Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty Four Naira) only which sum was transferred from Vhelbherg International Limited company account domiciled in Standard Chartered Bank account No. 0000777216 into the account of Sage Nebeife Foundation Domiciled in First Bank account No. 2017452111.”

Count two reads:

“That you NNAEMEKA NWAWKA, JUDE ANNIEKWE CYRIL and THE REGISTERED TRUSTEES OF SAGE NEBEIFE FOUNDATION sometimes between 8th January to 24th May, 2013 in Anambra State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court fraudulently converted to your personal use the aggregate sum of N29,620,733 (Twenty Nine Million, Six Hundred and Twenty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Thirty Three Naira) only which sum was transferred from Vhelbherg International Limited company account domiciled in Standard Chartered Bank account No. 0000777216 into the account of Sage Nebeife Foundation Domiciled in First Bank account No. 2017452111”

They pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them, prompting the EFCC, through its counsel, Victor Ukagwu to go into full trial with him. The trial lasted ten years. The EFCC called four witnesses and tendered several documentary evidence admitted and marked exhibits p1 to p24. The evidence showed how Nwawka ensured that contracts were awarded to his friend’s companies from Orient Petroleum Resources Plc, how monies were paid to the companies and eventually returned to him through his Foundation and how he withdrew the said monies and used them for his personal needs.

Counsel to the first and third defendants, U. N. Udechukwu, SAN, and counsel to the second defendant, E.S.C Obiora, SAN, held briefs for their clients, offering defences on how the contracts were handled. However, Justice Anyachebe found the defendants guilty and convicted them accordingly.

The court held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and therefore sentenced Nwawka and his Foundation to 14 years imprisonment. The court also ordered the convict and his Foundation to refund the sum of 140, 900, 000 (One Hundred and forty million, Nine hundred Thousand Naira) to Orient Petroleum Resources Plc.

Nwawka and his co-travelers bagged their imprisonment when one of the investors in his company, Chief Cletus Ibeto petitioned the Commission that he invested the sum of N25billion into Orient Petroleum Resources Plc but Nnawka through award of suspicious and bogus contracts to his friend’s companies, got most of the monies back through his Sage Nebefeife Foundation.

PoliticsCity Boy Movement Appoints Soludo’s Daughter, Adaora, Women’s Leader by Vixlot(op): 7:50am On Feb 27
The daughter of the Anambra State governor, Adaora Soludo, has been appointed as the state women’s leader of President Bola Tinubu’s political support group, ‘City Boy Movement’.

In a short statement posted by the Anambra State Media Director of City Boy Movement, Adaora was appointed to lead the women’s wing of the movement in the state.

A media aide of Anambra State Governor, Daniel Ezeigwe, also confirmed the development to journalists on Thursday, adding that the governor’s daughter will coordinate the women’s wing of the movement in the state.

This development is coming a few days after the leader of the South-East movement, Obinna Iyiegbu, known as Obi Cubana, led other members of the group to visit Soludo at the Light House, Awka, recently.

Ezeigwe said, “Anambra State Media Director of City Boy Movement, has confirmed the appointment of Adaora Soludo, as the state women’s leader of President Bola Tinubu’s political support group, ‘City Boy Movement’.

“She was appointed to lead the women’s wing of the movement in the state. It is now authentic.”

PUNCH reports that the City Boy Movement, linked to the All Progressives Congress, is a civic platform founded in 2022 to promote democratic participation, national cohesion, and issue-based dialogue.

The Movement recently rejected claims of elitism, adding that its membership spans traders, artisans, students, farmers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and business leaders, united by civic responsibility rather than wealth.

The term “City Boy,” associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, symbolises resilience, bold thinking, and transformative leadership, serving as the Movement’s guiding mindset.

PoliticsAPC Chairman Donates ₦100 Million To Akwa Ibom State University For Research by Vixlot(op): 9:38pm On Feb 26
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has announced a personal donation of ₦100 million to Akwa Ibom State University to support cutting-edge research with direct societal and economic impact.

He also.pledged to link the Vice Chacellor of the University with appropriate authorities in the United States of America to set up a world class institute with the University campus. This, he said will make the students of the institution globally competitive.

Professor Yilwatda made the donation in line with his strong advocacy for repositioning Nigerian universities as engines of innovation, national development, and global competitiveness.

He stated that the grant is dedicated to strengthening research output that addresses pressing national challenges and translates knowledge into practical solutions.

According to him, research is the soul of a world-class university, but research without impact remains ineffective unless it illuminates society, informs policy, and fuels innovation.

He noted that Nigeria’s investment in research remains below 0.5 per cent of GDP far beneath the OECD benchmark of 2 per cent describing this gap not as a limitation, but as a clear opportunity for visionary intervention.

Professor Yilwatda explained that the research fund is expected to prioritise high-impact areas critical to Nigeria’s present and future, including flood modelling in coastal regions, climate adaptation strategies in the Niger Delta, optimisation of offshore oil production, sustainable fisheries management, and renewable energy integration.

He emphasised that emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence-driven modelling, big data analytics, and global digital research platforms, must be deployed to move research from abstract theory to tangible societal impact, particularly in resource-rich and environmentally sensitive regions like Akwa Ibom State.

Drawing lessons from global best practices, the APC Chairman referenced leading institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University, where interdisciplinary research and strong industry linkages have driven regional development and global innovation ecosystems.

He stressed that Akwa Ibom State University has the potential to replicate such success by aligning research with local strengths while maintaining a global outlook.

In addition to the financial donation, Professor Yilwatda proposed to increase the research grant if the initial ₦100 million is transparently and effectively utilised. He further pledged to personally supervise and monitor the implementation of the research projects, ensuring accountability, excellence, and measurable outcomes.

He also highlighted the importance of international collaboration and digital connectivity, noting that modern universities must operate locally while competing globally. Through virtual research clusters, co-supervised doctoral programmes, and online visiting scholars, Akwa Ibom State University, he said, can position Uyo as a visible node in the global knowledge network.

Professor Yilwatda reaffirmed that strengthening research must go hand in hand with improving the quality of teaching and learning.

He advocated the adoption of blended learning models, AI-driven adaptive systems, virtual laboratories, and immersive simulations, particularly in marine biology, offshore engineering, and energy analytics, to prepare students for a technology-driven global economy.

Describing the donation as both a commitment and a challenge, he urged the university community to see research funding not as an entitlement, but as a responsibility to deliver solutions that uplift society, strengthen industry, and advance national development.

“This intervention is about building capacity, credibility, and confidence in Nigerian research. When research is impactful, universities become catalysts of development, and nations become globally competitive,” he said.

The donation marks a significant milestone in the partnership between leadership, academia, and national development, reinforcing the shared vision of transforming Akwa Ibom State University into a globally relevant centre of excellence.
