EDO 2024: ARE PETER OBI, LABOUR PARTY APC’S ABETTORS-IN-CHIEF? By John Legbedion As millions continue to scrounge for their daily bread, grappling with the hardship imposed by an All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government, one wonders if Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the 2023 presidential election, and his party are oblivious to their role in aiding the rise of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president and the dire implications of their actions on Nigerians. In an election that would typically have been a two-horse race between candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC, the emergence of Obi as a third force, on the LP platform, inadvertently aided the manipulation of and substitution in results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), purportedly acting under the influence of the APC, to ensure their victory. During the polls, numerous election observers, both local and international, chided INEC for the noticeable anomalies and discrepancies in the early results released, which were indicative of the election umpire's partisanship in favour of the APC. Building up to the election, while a seemingly naïve Obi rode on the waves of the messianic appeal he had garnered among his ardent followers, which he believed would earn him the exalted throne in Aso Villa, some political analysts warned him and his OBIDIENTS that all they would achieve in the election was to divide the votes of forces opposed to the APC and clear Tinubu’s path to Abuja. Essentially, a vote for LP was a vote for APC. Sadly, history has proven them right. As the Edo 2024 governorship election fast approaches, a disturbingly similar scenario is unfolding. Under normal circumstances, Obi would not be begrudged for supporting his party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata. However, the dynamics this time are different. Internal strife within the Labour Party, which presumably works against Obi, coupled with the fact that his status in the LP is merely that of a former presidential candidate, raises the question of why he feels compelled to personally endorse Akpata. Some have speculated that Obi may be acting out the script of the APC, or perhaps he feels indebted to Akpata, one of those who allegedly funded his ill-timed presidential ambition. These claims, though speculative, are gaining traction, given that Obi’s actions appear to be setting up another division of the opposition vote, which could once again benefit the APC. As former American President Abraham Lincoln once remarked, 'You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.' Obi must recognise that his endorsement could have unfavourable long-term consequences, both for Edo State and his political future. If he continues down this path, aligning himself with forces that destabilise the opposition to the APC, he risks further compromising the veneer of his much-vaunted integrity. Proponents of this theory have dug deeper, positing that the LP’s choice of a candidate from the Edo South Senatorial District affirms the veracity of their claim. Against the backdrop of the sensibilities of a majority of Edo people, even the APC was forced to make a turnaround and produce an Esan as the party’s flagbearer for the governorship election. Among the top contending parties in the race, it is only the LP that is not presenting a candidate that is of Edo Central origin. Similarly, supporters of the APC easily postulate that as long as their party is able to secure a majority of votes in Edo North, their candidate will win. This is premised on the expectation that votes in Edo Central will be split between their candidate and that of the PDP, and, likewise, votes in the South will be divided between the PDP and LP. The plausibility of this part of their argument is quite convincing. Indeed, Edo finds itself at a critical juncture. The APC is employing tactics similar to those that brought them victory at the federal level—fielding a candidate with questionable credentials, resorting to propaganda, threats of violence, and keeping the opposition divided. Their ambition to take Edo at all costs mirrors the political machinations we witnessed during the 2023 presidential election. Obi has to carefully navigate these murky waters. While a figure like Tinubu is no stranger to Machiavellian strategy, Obi, by contrast, risks tarnishing his reputation if he appears to get too deeply involved in these underhanded dealings. The former Anambra State governor would do well to remember that Tinubu’s misstep in the 2020 Edo governorship election—where he publicly derided a well-loved candidate—did more harm than good to the APC’s fortunes in the state. Edo people, proud of their rich heritage and sensitive to external interference, are likely to reject any attempt to influence their choice of leadership. According to recent polls, the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, enjoys the support of over 60% of the electorate. Any effort by Obi to sway votes in favour of Akpata could backfire, eventually dimming his presidential prospects. In Ighodalo, Edo people have found a candidate with proven integrity and competence, more than capable of building on the achievements of the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, and maintaining the trajectory of progressive, transformative, and people-oriented governance that the state has enjoyed over the last eight years. Should the APC succeed in securing Edo State through devious means, Obi and the Labour Party’s involvement would only reinforce suspicions that they are complicit in advancing the APC’s agenda, which has not boded well for Nigerians, nor will it for Edo. - Legbedion, a social critic, writes from Benin City |
EDO 2024 ELECTION – A REFERENDUM ON APC, PDP & OBASEKI By John Legbedion Beyond the credibility or otherwise of the contestants and what they bring to the table, the Edo 2024 gubernatorial election, by a significant measure, may be considered a referendum on the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and not least, the incumbent governor, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki. Seething from the abjection, agony, and privation that pervade the lives of millions of Nigerians, enforced by nine years of an insensitive and senseless APC rule at the federal level, convincing the average Edo voter to thumb-ink the party’s logo at the state’s guber poll would be a Herculean task. As if the misrule of the APC at the top wasn't bad enough, the party's candidate is the one with the most baggage. Akpakomiza, as Senator Monday Okpebholo is popularly called, is entering a contest that will impact the fate of Edolites in Nigeria and the diaspora as, unarguably, the most unprepared and unqualified flagbearer among the frontrunners. Even the APC knows this and deliberately shields him from public scrutiny because any time he attempts to publicly malign Obaseki, he ends up exposing his shortcomings and lack of intelligence. Unsurprisingly, his listless misspeaks and gaffes are a stark reflection of a similar ineptitude at the federal level that has inflicted upon citizens the worst levels of inflation ever experienced in post-military Nigeria. Any Nigerian that can afford a bag of rice at almost N90,000 will hold the days of the PDP rule in nostalgia when it was sold for less than N10,000. From 1999 to 2015, when the PDP were at the helm in Aso Villa, there was, at the very least, a semblance of development and progress, which stands in stark contrast to the brutally harsh realities being experienced thereafter. From the rising cost of goods to insecurity and corruption, everything that Nigerians felt was bad under the PDP has gotten astronomically worse under the APC. It is the same propaganda and deceptive tactics that the APC apparatchiks resorted to when they deceived Nigerians with the promise of ‘CHANGE’ that they are repeating in Edo. Each day, Edo people are fed one misinformation or another to discredit Obaseki, his administration, and the PDP. When Obaseki promised to increase the minimum wage for civil servants from N40,000 to N70,000, they discredited it as mere political propaganda, claiming that the governor would never live up to his promise. Their claim has been proven false, and Edo civil servants have been rewarded with a pay package that will cushion the effects of the APC-led federal government's mismanagement of Nigeria’s economy. The APC had the impudence to drag the revered Oba of Benin into their smear campaign by lying that Obaseki’s government had taken the Benin Traditional Council to court, only for people to discover that, like the Palace, the government was also a defendant in the concerned legal dispute. Even in the case of the deplorable condition of federal roads that traverse the length and breadth of the state, which statutorily should be the sole responsibility of the FG, they have tried to nail Obaseki to the stake for it. Now that the state government is rising to the challenge by commencing palliative work on the federal arterial roads while strengthening the network of connector routes, that narrative will gradually die a natural death. Thankfully, Edo people are innately independent thinkers and happen to be among the most informed in the country. Come September 21, 2024, when they throng to their polling units in droves, they will remember a governor who rid the state of barbaric ‘lions and tigers,’ oppressive Community Development Associations (CDAs), and restored sanity within the polity. They will remember a governor who improved learning outcomes for over 400,000 Edo children with his Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme and made them globally competitive. Edo people will remember a governor who made the state Secretariat Complex the best, most equipped and most digitized in Nigeria and ensured the workers are the highest paid in the country. They will not forget in a hurry, the governor who revitalized healthcare and brought Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) to their localities. A governor who made healthcare more accessible and affordable with the Edo Health Insurance Scheme (EdoHIS), going as far as paying premiums and making it free for pensioners and vigilante operatives. No one will expect Edo people to forget a governor who created platforms for youths and creatives in the state to fulfill their dreams with the construction of the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Sound Stage, the Edo State International Film Festival (ESIFF), Edo Gospel Music Festival (EdoGOF), among several other initiatives to harness the creative potential of our vibrant young population. As emphasised in local pidgin English colloquialism, ‘No be who first go police dey win case.’ The APC’s penchant for being quick to run to the court of public opinion with falsehoods and propaganda is no guarantee that their narrative will have the upper hand after the dust settles. People may be fooled initially by their trickery and shenanigans once, but not twice. Eventually, people get wise and APC’s strategy will surely backfire. Amidst the policy somersaults and misadventures of the APC’s federal government that have made Nigeria a tottering giant and left Nigerians groaning in misery, only a party that is positioned to elevate the fortunes of the Edo people above and beyond the developmental progress achieved under Governor Obaseki’s administration is worthy of consideration. The only party with such a track record is the Peoples Democratic Party, and its candidate is Dr. Asue Ighodalo, an achiever of proven capacity, character, and competence. ° Legbedion, a social critic writes from Benin City |

Asue Ighodalo’s Politics Without Bitterness https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2024/03/03/asue-ighodalos-politics-without-bitterness In the competitive landscape of Nigerian politics, good sportsmanship is a trait that many politicians lack. This is why the statement issued last week by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, deserves commendation. In the statement, Ighodalo set a positive tone for the campaigns that are due to begin shortly by demonstrating decorum. First, he extended congratulations to his major opponents in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the Labour Party (LP), Olumide Akpata, for their emergence as governorship candidates of their respective parties for the upcoming elections in the state. Known for his calm demeanour and integrity as a businessman, Ighodalo in what is as politics without bitterness, urged both Okpebholo and Akpata to prioritise issue-based campaigns leading up to the September governorship election. Reflecting on the 2023 general election, he highlighted the dangers of hatred and vitriol disguised as political slogans, warning against the lingering effects of past political fires that continue to smoulder across the nation. “I and my team will continue to campaign to the people of Edo State in the language and behaviour that seek to unite rather than divide,” he said. “We will stay focused on the issues that matter to our people and there will be no descent into abuse, ethnic-baiting and name-calling. We must not destroy the unity of the state we seek to govern. I therefore, urge all my fellow candidates to similarly run respectful issue-based campaigns.” Apart from his admonition, Ighodalo’s actions exemplified his refined leadership qualities, setting a standard for others to follow. It shows that if elected governor of Edo State, his conduct suggests he would instill a similar level of grace and integrity in leadership. His admonition resonates with the slogan of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014, emphasising that no political ambition is worth the sacrifice of the life of any Nigerian. His remarks stand in stark contrast to the recent actions of the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who openly boasted about his party’s chances of winning the election in the state. Such statements fuel desperation, encourage thuggery, and sow the seeds of chaos, which is the opposite of what the state needs at this crucial time.

Atiku Rallies Support for Ighodalo, Urges Edo PDP Guber Aspirants, Other Stakeholders to Close Ranks Chuks Okocha in Abuja Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, Mr Asue Ighodalo for his victory at the just-concluded primary election of the party. The former vice president, who was also the presidential candidate of the PDP in the last general election, said the election of a thorough-bred technocrat by the PDP as the party’s candidate in Edo State signposts the urgency that the PDP gives to ensuring that the next governor of the state is a round peg in a round hole. Atiku, in a press statement signed by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, yesterday, stated that “the PDP leadership and members in Edo State must be congratulated also, for an amazing primary election that produced the quality of candidate to fly the flag of our party in the upcoming election. “The party has made a choice, and it is not in dispute that the choice is a good one. It is, therefore, on this note that I plead with all other aspirants and aggrieved stakeholders to reconcile and negotiate to make sure that Edo remains a PDP state. “Barrister Ighodalo, apart from being a brilliant mind, in whose hands the affairs of Edo State will steer on stable waters, is also a fine gentleman. “I believe that our candidate has what it takes to bring everyone willing to work for the interest of the PDP under the huge umbrella of our party,” Atiku said. Continuing, he noted that the current hardship being experienced by Nigerians should energise every PDP member to work for the interest of the party, especially in Edo State, in ensuring that the ruling party, “the APC does not enlarge its map of hunger and poverty. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2024/03/03/atiku-rallies-support-for-ighodalo-urges-edo-pdp-guber-aspirants-other-stakeholders-to-close-ranks |
Edo 2024: Ighodalo Emerges PDP Candidate With 577 Votes, Promises To Lead Edo On Path Of Prosperity …insists on a united PDP, extends hand of fellowship to other aspirants …hails PDP, Edo people for support, assures inclusivity Former Chairman of Sterling Bank Plc, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 2024 Edo State Governorship election. Ighodalo polled 577 of the 585 accredited votes, defeating 10 other aspirants to clinch the party’s ticket at the keenly contested primary which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the Edo State capital. While the State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu polled one vote, another top contender, Anselm Ojezua scored zero votes. Meanwhile, the immediate past House of Representatives member, representing Oredo Federal Constituency, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama stepped down from the race, while his other counterpart, a former House of Representative member representing Ovia Federal constituency, Omosede Igbinedion also stepped down from the race, declaring her support for Asue Ighodalo. Other aspirants including Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Hadizat Umoru, Dr. Earl Onaiwu and Arthur Esene also polled zero votes. The election also recorded six void votes. Ighodalo was declared winner of the primary election by the Chairman of the Edo PDP Primary Electoral Committee and Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, and the Co-Chairman and Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwhori. According to Lawal, “By the powers vested in me by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, pursuant to the Constitution of our great party, the PDP, as the Chief Returning Officer of the 2024 Edo PDP Primary Election, I hereby declare Asue Ighodalo as the winner of the just concluded primary election with a total vote of 577. “Therefore, I hereby return the elected as the PDP candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in the State.” Ighodalo, while commending the delegates, leaders and members of the PDP for the confidence reposed in him, promised to, if elected the State’s next helmsman, work with all stakeholders to transform the fortunes of Edo people and lead the State on the path of prosperity and greatness. He said, “I thank the good people of Edo State. Resilient people; brilliant, hard working, visionary, focused, and willing to move our state into prosperity. “I am only a tool in this process and I promise you all that I will be a useful tool in this process. Edo State by God’s grace will move from where Governor Godwin Obaseki has carried us to, to the next level.” He further noted, “I would like to thank Governor Obaseki for the wonderful work he has done in the last seven and a half years. I know that in a year or two people will keep talking about Obaseki. We all haven't seen the value of the work he has done but he is like a builder who is building the foundation for a 100-storey building. I thank him and his wife for supporting him tremendously and giving him the strength to go through the vicissitudes of the last seven years. No man is perfect so we all will repair and work on each other's mistakes. “I promise all the good people of Edo State; those in Edo State, in Nigeria, and in the Diaspora that I will work tirelessly for our State. I will assemble our best hands to move our State to the next level and I promise you all that I will give you my all.” Reiterating the need for a united party to win the forthcoming guber elections in the State, Ighodalo said it is only with a formidable and united front that the PDP can excel and succeed in the mission of retaining its seat at Osadebe Avenue and consolidating on the impactful work the party has started in the State. Earlier, the host Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, while welcoming guests at the primary election, said, “Today, we are going through an exercise that has been stipulated by our party. Even though it's statutory, the exercise will be life-changing because Nigeria is going through difficult times and we can only overcome the challenges we are facing as a Country with the right leadership. “If we in Edo do not begin to show the right leadership that will begin to reset Nigeria, God forbid, we may all be in trouble. PDP is the only party that has what it takes to rule this Country. Again, we are showing the example in the way we are conducting our leadership selection process.” He added, “We are following our rules very assiduously; my role as a host governor is to welcome all of you who are here, starting with our members who elected the delegates that are carrying out this exercise today. Thanks to members of the State and National Working Committee of our great party, the PDP for being steadfast in the rules. I also thank all the aspirants for exercising the spirits of sportsmanship.” PHOTO CAPTION: PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and his wife, Mrs. Ifeyinwa, delivering his victory speech after the Edo PDP primary election, at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City, on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Asue Ighodalo: The Round Peg In Round Hole For Edo? “The price of greatness is responsibility” – Sir Winston Churchill. This profound statement by British statesman, soldier, and writer Sir Winston Churchill, who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice, from 1940 to 1945 during the Second World War, and again from 1951 to 1955, resonates deeply on the premise of this treatise. As the race to emerge as the next occupant of Dennis Osadebey House, Benin has started in earnest with gladiators throwing their hats into the ring as gubernatorial aspirants. In the face of this of development where there’s an unwritten agreement on transition of power between the senatorial districts of the big heart of the nation. The meat of this submission is hinged on the quest of well-respected lawyer, corporate titan and public figure christened Asue Ighodalo who’s known for his expertise in corporate law, finance, and investment banking, as he takes a dive into the murky waters of politics laden with intrigues, conspiracies, alignment and realignment, nocturnal locomotion in his quest to govern Edo State as the helmsman as the tenure of incumbent Godwin Obaseki winds downs. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2024/02/07/asue-ighodalo-the-round-peg-in-round-hole-for-edo Fortune can be determined by one’s adeptness to navigate the intricate spaghetti of human existence. Despite these circumstances, there are persona’s who have experienced trajectories that shaped who they morphed into today, and over the years, they have proven themselves as true models of prominence. Asue Ighodalo, is one of such illustration. From his early years studying at the beginning of where nurtured boys transited to global men, King’s College, to where he sits today as Chairman of several top-notch business entities like Sterling Bank Plc, Nigeria Breweries Plc, Levene Energy, Dangote Flour Mills Plc, Asue has had a remarkable voyage, successfully led numerous high-stake negotiations, advised on critical legal matters, and directed strategic initiatives that has transformed organisations and achieved remarkable outcomes. He has also been involved in various public and private sector initiatives. However, whether he is the “round peg in a round hole” for Edo State would depend on several factors and the specific context in which his potential role in Edo State is being considered. Some considerations include leadership skills. Ighodalo’s leadership qualities, managerial abilities, and track record in various capacities would be critical in determining his suitability for a leadership role in Edo State. All things said politics is not a mathematical equation where one plus one equals two. Understanding of Edo State dynamics is key in the forthcoming off cycle political contest. Knowledge of the local dynamics, culture, challenges, and opportunities in Edo State would be essential for effectively leading and contributing to the development of the state. It’s stranger than fiction that Asue Ighodalo has been blackmailed in certain quarters that he’s not a son of the soil, as he’s unable to speak and converse conveniently in the local Esan dialect. The corporate titan and eminent legal counsel has dispelled this smokescreen been bandied around by naysayers and fifth columnists in public domain. Ighodalo’s vision and plans for the socio-economic development of Edo State, as well as his alignment with the aspirations of the people would play a crucial role in determining his suitability. On paper he fits the bill of who can ascend to the seat of the South South sub-national entity, but there are factors that might militate against his ambition in the short, mid and long term if he clinches the much-coveted ticket via the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform. The legion of party faithfuls who have an axe to grind with incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki might truncate the ambition of Ighodalo. The current deputy governor, Comrade Phillip Shuaibu is daggers drawn with his principal on the forthcoming gubernatorial contest concerning his eligibility and the cold shoulder meted to his ambition by the governor. On the periphery, there has been a groundswell of support and endorsement for Ighodalo’s quest for Dennis Osadebey House with eminent candidates in the fold of PDP stepping down for his candidacy. One needs to take a cursory look at Ighodalo’s prior experience in public cum private sector as chairman of Alaghodaro Economic Summit and his stint as helmsman of Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) come in handy, his strides in community development of Esan Land further enhances his suitability for a role in leading or contributing to Edo State’s development. Asue also has a high hurdle to surmount to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, business entities, and citizens that would be important for building consensus and collaboration in his quest to lead the heartbeat of the nation. In the realm of ethical standards and Integrity, Ighodalo has paid his dues beyond comprehension. The importance of upholding ethical standards and integrity in public service cannot be overstated. Any individual considered for a significant role in Edo State should demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity. His alignment with the development priorities and policies of Edo State and the ability to work within the existing governance structure would be crucial and will be key factor as the race for the gubernatorial contest gathers steam. It’s important to note that determining whether someone is a “round peg in a round hole” involves a comprehensive evaluation of their skills, experience, vision, and ability to address the specific needs and challenges of the role they are being considered for. Public perception, consensus among relevant and key stakeholders, and the overall context of the politicking via democratic tenets of emergence as the candidate of the PDP also play significant roles in determining suitability for leadership positions. Time will tell where the pendulum will swing and as they say: “One day is a long time in politics”. • Ayoola Ajanaku is a Communications and Advocacy Specialist based in Lagos, Nigeria

Asue Ighodalo: Setting Path For Edo’s Future Ahead Of 2024 Guber Race Emeka Nwachukwu https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2023/12/23/asue-ighodalo-setting-path-for-edos-future-ahead-of-2024-guber-race One terrible thing about going the wrong way is that it doesn’t always matter how long or short one stays on the path and the speed he goes on; the endpoint is always predictable—one of sadness, frustration, and regrets. As the race for the next occupant of Dennis Osadebey Avenue heats up in Edo State, with intrigues and drama of both the absurd and the rational, the import of making the right choice as to who calls the shots in Government House, Benin City, over the next four years comes to the front burner. Amid the political theatrics and maneuvering, this is critical because the wrong choice could mean a journey down a regrettable path, marked by retrogression, degeneration and missed opportunities, especially given the remarkable strides and progress that have been recorded in the State over the past decade. It is noteworthy that this progress has been marked by a remarkable journey with economic revolution in agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and the creative industry, among others. One in which the decline in education has been put to a halt and the State transformed into one of Africa’s accelerator States in education, as well as a seismic shift from a civil service State to one attracting billions of dollars of investments from the private sector. Edo State today has moved from a dark, drab, and dangerous State to one of light, safety, and security, reflecting an environment where citizens can thrive and live life to the fullest, businesses can flourish, and the quality of life is elevated. It is therefore imperative that the choice of who takes over government in 2024 is essentially hinged on proven track records of performance, particularly in the various aspirants’ private and personal endeavours. Because, as it is often said, ‘he who is faithful with little is most likely faithful with much.’ The selection criteria for the next Edo State Governor should border on vision, pedigree, knowledge, and expertise to navigate through the political and economic headwinds and put the people on the path of much better life. It is on this pedestal that the candidacy of Dr. Asue Ighodalo, a seasoned lawyer, banker, and accomplished boardroom guru shines through the dark as an array of hope, offering Edo State and its people a trajectory that leads away from despair and towards a future of progress and prosperity. No doubt, Asue Ighodalo’s profile is quite staggering and his candidature is already unsettling the political stratosphere in Edo State, sending jitters in the camps of other candidates. The grapevines have it that the All Progressive Congress is already wooing a business tycoon and entrepreneur from Owan, Edo North Senatorial District in a bid to find a candidate capable of matching the impressive corporate profile of the former Chairman of Sterling Bank Plc and Chairman of Nigeria Breweries. Ighodalo, easily appears to be the most prepared, qualified, and competent of other candidates with a clear vision and roadmap to elevate the State to new heights and proffer innovative solutions to the peculiar challenges faced by the people of the State. With about 40 years of experience in project finance, securities and capital markets, energy and natural resources, mergers and acquisitions, and banking and securitization, Ighodalo strikes out uniquely equipped to safeguard and build upon the foundation laid by Governor Obaseki having been a part of the vision and its realisation over the past 16 years as a member of the Economic Team under former Governor Adams Oshiomhole and now as Chairman of the Alaghodaro Investment Summit, an annual platform to rally investors into the State and showcase the progress being recorded in transforming the state into an investment haven. Possessing a boardroom expertise arguably akin to the incumbent’s, Ighodalo brings with him a rich reservoir of knowledge and a demonstrable history of steering organisations toward success. His profound experience in law, banking, and corporate governance uniquely situates him as a competent executor and one with the adeptness to navigate the complexities of various sectors and propel the State forward on a trajectory of accelerated and sustained growth. While acknowledging that other aspirants are distinguished and eminent sons of Edo State, each possessing qualifications and outstanding qualities befitting the role of governor, it becomes crucial for Edo people to see through the augury what lies ahead, scrutinise with discernment and choose the best of the bests-one who is rightly equipped and capable of credibly leading the State over the next four years. The focus should be on identifying a leader who can actively foster the desired progress and bring about a transformative impact on the socio-economic landscape of the State. In concluding this piece, let me emphasise that while good and effective governance relies on building strong institutions to serve as the framework for politicians to operate in public’s best interest, it also depends on the selection of competent and trustworthy politicians who have the strength of character to uphold the values of the institutions they serve in the first place. As the momentum continues to gather ahead of the 2024 gubernatorial election, Edo State and its people have the opportunity to choose a leader who is synonymous with experience, integrity, and a commitment to progress. Ighodalo has shown that he is the ideal and right candidate to steer Edo State to greater heights. Edo people must not overlook the chance to choose and support this one man who truly represents the aspirations, desires, and values of the people—a leader in the person of Dr. Asue Ighodalo. Edo 2024: Elevating The Discourse With Eye On Ighodalo By John Legbedion https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/12/edo-2024-elevating-the-discourse-with-eye-on-ighodalo/amp/ The Edo State governorship election slated by Nigeria’s electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold next year, like its previous editions, promises to be full of twists and intrigues. Symptomatic of the democratic process, a slew of individuals across the various ethnic and political affiliations have thrown their hats into the ring. Expectedly, while several in the race for the state’s top political seat are eminently placed in the society, with proven capacity and worth, proud Edo sons and daughters, quite a number of persons whose names may not ring a bell in the ears of the people have also expressed their interest. But who does the cap fit? Anyone with an inkling of the goings-on in Edo, who holds the interest of its people at heart, will readily concede that over the last twenty-four years, the Heartbeat State has witnessed a relatively peaceful and progressive democracy. While tensions may be raised and the polity heated with every election cycle, every administration has operated within a semblance of calm and order. With each preceding governor contributing his quota to the growth and development of the state, it is almost indisputable that the administration of the present governor, Godwin Obaseki has been the most reformative. Confronted with a myriad of concomitant challenges in governance, like his predecessors, likewise colleagues across Nigeria, his penchant for deviating from the norms of business-as-usual governance, both administratively and politically has keystroked several indicators to an emerging economic boom in the state. Although some may despise his style, and dispute his achievements, the facts on the ground are that Edo, today, is the only state that pays its workforce higher than the national minimum wage of N30,000, a feat that even the federal government still struggles to match. This is alongside the reconstruction of the state’s civil service secretariat complex which is now world-class; a cynosure to behold, fitted with state-of-the-art facilities and gadgets. In agriculture, attracting private capital of over $500 million, the state currently boasts the largest oil palm estate in sub-Saharan Africa; emulating models that sparked an economic revolution and boosted productivity among the famous Asian Tigers. Of considerable significance also, is the fact that the state is now home to two of the four modular crude oil processing plants in the country. From a state regarded as a civil-service state, and derided for its unenviable numbers of illegally trafficked persons, Edo State, within seven years, is fast emerging as a hub of hubs – a nexus of progress, serving as a focal point for advancements across sectors such as education, agriculture, manufacturing, petrochemical refining, sports, entertainment, arts and culture. That this bullish socio-economic developmental trajectory has been achieved in such a short time cannot be excised from the pedigree of the individual that is at the helm of affairs. Underrated by many when he stepped into governance as a political neophyte, Obaseki has proven that he is more adept at the job than even the political jobbers. As a renowned investment banker, what he brought to the scene is his wealth of experience after decades of successes excelling in the private sector – a terrain that is often unforgiving of the lack of capacity or nous for productive thinking. A cursory look at the list of aspirants vying for the ballot contest come September 2024, will prove that only a few can boast of the proven capacity Obaseki already possessed before becoming governor. Among this class is the co-founder of Banwo and Ighodalo, a leading corporate and commercial law firm, chairman, Board of Directors, Sterling Bank PLC and exiting chairman of Nigerian Breweries, Dr. Asue Ighodalo. From his family background to his educational qualifications and the numerous positions he has held, and still holds as a top executive across legal, banking, and energy sectors, no one can argue that he is not among the leading contenders in the pool of gladiators contesting, who actually have something to offer Edo people, as opposed to some who are mere clout chasers or political jobbers. Alongside his impeccable resume, Ighodalo also shares another salient similarity with Obaseki as an economic policy consultant that has closely collaborated with the Edo State Government primarily in advisory capacity. Despite this being his inaugural foray into active politics, he is no stranger to governance, having been one of the brains behind the multi-sectoral accomplishments of the Obaseki-led administration. Acknowledging that Ighodalo is not the sole participant boasting an impressive CV in the electoral race, several factors align in his favour, providing him with a distinct advantage over most of his opponents. For many contenders, the most noteworthy aspect of their resume is a past political office or an unsuccessful attempt at one. In addition to not being among those whose biggest contribution to society is political, unable to situate their immense affluence and prominence to anything driven by personal innovation or productivity, but rather as recurring beneficiaries of a corrupt political system, Asue Ighodalo also hails from the Esan ethnic group. The Esan people constitute the predominant tribe in the Edo Central Senatorial District, and there is a prevailing sentiment that they have been marginalized in the selection of the state’s chief public officer. While it is essential to be mindful of political biases and public opinions, it should be emphasized that there is no constitutional provision dictating the ethnicity of Edo’s next governor. The Esan discourse is only rooted in the principles of equity, fairness, and inclusion, essential for fostering unity and maintaining the relative peace the state has enjoyed through every political season. It would have been exigent to outrightly posit that all who do not fit the bill should immediately drop out of the race, but that would be unconstitutional and a violation of the democratic process. Ergo, let the good people of Edo State be encouraged to fully and transparently exercise their civic rights. Having transitioned since 1999 from the son of a billionaire and former local government chairman, to a textile worker turned labour union leader, and presently an investment banker cum governor, Edo State must not drop the bar. Come November 12, 2024, when Obaseki hands over the baton of leadership to the next governor, it must be to someone capable of elevating the discourse. Without any modicum of equivocation, Asue Ighodalo fits the bill and undoubtedly possesses the ability to build on the successes of the current governor, steering the state toward sustainable development, growth, and progress. The people of Edo deserve nothing less. • Legbedion, a social critic writes from Benin City

Ogie Vasco A Meddlesome Interloper, Working With Counter Forces To Undermine Edo PDP At no time was he elected State Publicity Secretary of our party. … must be disregarded, ignored Our attention has been drawn to an illegal and incredibly ridiculous statement purportedly issued by one Ogie Vasco who is unlawfully parading himself as the State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State. We would have ordinarily ignored the six-paragraph divisive scribbling filled with false and baseless ramblings on the party’s recently concluded ward delegate congress which took place simultaneously across the State, but for the sake of clarity, it is important to state that the rabble-rouser is an impostor and is not known to the PDP in Edo State. More so, signing off the statement from an address that is not known to be the address of the Edo PDP Secretariat, further gives him out as a meddlesome interloper and an agent of destabilization, who should be ignored by all party members and other stakeholders. In all modesty, the recent congress, held last Sunday, stands as one of the best congresses ever organised in the recent history of the State, but Vasco would not know that as he has never participated or witnessed a congress before, It was peaceful and credible with party members electing their delegates with keen supervision of the Committee set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party. It is also important to clarify that the materials used for the delegate election across the State came from the 3-man Ad-hoc Ward Delegate Electoral Committee led by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and its distribution was handled at the PDP State Secretariat, hence Vasco's claims are not only unfounded but divisive and misleading. If he was a genuine member of the party, he would know the location of the party secretariat and would have been able to see the materials when they came because all eligible members of the Party have access to the Secretariat , while the Delegate Committee from the Party’s National leadership were the ones in custody of the materials. Is it not even perplexing that some aspirants are opposed to the Congress? Were they contesting as delegates themselves? And who appointed Ogie Vasco as the spokesperson of the aspirants if not for mischief and the crumbs that may fall from the table of any of the aspirants? If Vasco was by any means informed, he would have known that Congress proceedings are determined by the party's national leadership, not the aspirants. Rather than showcasing his dorkiness, he should go and study the guidelines as issued by the National Working Committee in line with the Party’s Constitution. We are however not surprised at the antics of Ogie Vasco and his ilk who are working with counter forces to weaken the party. We know that their game is to undermine the party in pursuit of their pecuniary interests. Their attempts to derail us from retaining Osadebey Avenue will not succeed. We are aware of their anti-party agenda; the same antiparty activities witnessed during the State House of Assembly election which PDP members gallantly quelled and eventually retained the maximum seats in the House. I want to inform Ogie Vasco and his paymasters that the same gallant party members who defeated them in the past remain resolute and united, and are surefooted and ready to batter them to submission again in the coming governorship election in the State. • Ayoola Ajanaku is a Communications and Advocacy Specialist based in Lagos, Nigeria…

Obaseki is Governor till Nov 12, 2024, opposition impeachment plans have drowned with them By Ik Osamede Governor Obaseki's party, the PDP has won majority seats in the State House of Assembly elections. The March 18, 2023 election has brought to the front burner three key facts: 1. Oshiomhole is not God 2. Edo people are grateful for the development under Governor Obaseki 3. Edo people have a mind of their own When the presidential election came, Governor Godwin Obaseki gave every party a level playing field and did not tamper with any votes. His moral rectitude like I mentioned in a viral article few weeks back will be rewarded. Very few Governors are like that. Unlike states such as Rivers and Bayelsa. In this life, it is good to be good. When the state House of Assembly elections came, Oshiomhole said this was his opportunity to emplace runaway stooges in the House of Assembly inorder to impeach Governor Obaseki and fulfill his long time hate for the performing Governor. On the eve of the election, Oshiomhole came out of his hole to spew diatribes against Governor Obaseki in a more than 10-minute hateful rant. I could not deduce substance from his talk other than pure bile. I knew the video would do APC more harm than good (like the Tinubu Edo election video) because Edo people could see through his desperation. APC churned out more propaganda to deceive the electorates than they did even for the 2020 elections. They forgot Edo people are the most intelligent people on Earth, able to decipher truth from fiction. What was Governor Obaseki's response? Governor Obaseki said his achievements will speak for him. And today, his achievements of being the highest minimum wage payer in Nigeria has spoken; his visionary leadership has spoken; his prompt payment of salaries, gratuities, pension have all spoken; his love for the people without telling them to 'go and die' has spoken; his massive investment drive has spoken; his numerous road projects, civil service and education reforms have spoken. Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki is Governor till November 12, 2024. He will serve his two constitutional terms successfully without let or hindrance. To God be the glory. |
Obaseki’s House of Assembly Victory, is driving APC crazy --Efe Igbinosa Over the last few hours, the lameduck propaganda arm of the APC has churned out several spurious news just to discredit Governor Obaseki’s HOA victory. Despite what the naysayers and the supposed political Maradona have said and done, PDP, under the leadership of Governor Obaseki is already firmly poised to take the majority seats in the house, Come May 2023. It is this sterling record of the governor that APC are determined to darken at all cost. It is driving them crazy because it has finally put to bed the demystification of their tin god, Oshiomhole, who thought he was still popular, but never knew Edo people took him for a clown and joked with him in market places. No matter the number of propaganda the tired and clueless APC media arm throws at us in the coming days, we would continue to use them as a ladder. Our ascendancy will never be matched by this bitter little devils. Obaseki is on the Rise again!!! |

With this notice, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are to close by 12noon. Obaseki Assures Implementation Of Anti-Grazing Law, More Roads To Connect Orhionmwon Communities The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said the state government will go the whole length in the implementation of the anti-grazing law to checkmate farmer-herder’s crisis in Orhionmwon communities and ensure the safety and security of the people and other residents of the State. Obaseki who visited the palace of the Enogie of Ugo-Niyekeorhionmwon in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the State, said his government will accelerate infrastructural development in the area, ensuring more roads to connect more communities in Orhionmwon. The governor said, “I want to thank all of you for keeping the peace. I know how much Orhionmwon people have suffered these past years but as I told you in 2020 when I came here to campaign, it’s my duty as governor of Edo State to connect Orhionmwon with other parts of Edo State. “Ugo-Niyekeorhionmwon is a farming community and your number one trade is agriculture. As a governor, my first priority is to make sure that I make it possible for you to farm and get your products and crops to the market for sale. “So, anything that will stop you from farming or carrying your goods to the market, I will make sure that I reverse it. The last time I was here in this palace was because of a sad incident when some people were killed by bandits and herdsmen. “I know that we had a security problem in Orhionmwon which affected farmers. We have been trying to ensure peace in the area since that time. There are still some problems but with the support of the vigilante and other strategies that we have put in place, we will make sure that we stop open grazing in Orhionmwon.” Obaseki continued: “There is a law in Edo State today which prohibits and stops open grazing in Orhionmwon. It’s illegal for anybody to bring their cow and graze openly. If they must feed their cows, they must agree first with you and you give them an area to do it.” He added, “I appeal to you to maintain the peace. You made me governor and I can't do anything against you. No matter the issues and problems, I will make sure that we resolve it amicably. I want to appeal to you not to worry as I will not do anything that is not in the interest of my people of Ugo-Niyekeorhionmwon.” Speaking on behalf of the Community, the liaison officer of Orhionmwon LGA, Newman Ugiagbe, thanked the governor for his visit, assuring that the people of will continue to work with the government to improve security and safety in the state. Again, Edo Dangles Between Light And Darkness By Jay Ikebuaso The battle for the control of Edo State, especially its treasury, has been reignited. This is coming barely three years since the battle of 2020 which saw Edo almost going beyond the rubicon, before the divine light, through the people's solidarity with Governor Godwin Obaseki, conquered the forces of darkness and prevented Edo from tipping over. To the ordinary eye, the approaching March 18 election is simply to win seats in the Edo State House of Assembly, a prerequisite to a 4-year participation in ideal legislative duties aimed at further enhancing the living standard of Edo people. Unfortunately, a deeper look has revealed a sinister motive for this year's contest; a ploy to hijack majority of the legislative seats and then oust Governor Obaseki via impeachment, a penultimate to handing the treasury of the state on to the itchy hands of an erstwhile governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole. Going by recent utterances of Oshiomole, one can see a thirst to once again be in charge of the day to to day running of the state through a rubberstamp House of Assembly that will be wholly answerable to him as their godfather, rather than to the people. Someone succinctly termed it 'the Lagos template' which makes a serving governor a mere figurehead. For an 'unpopular' oposition party to import the unholy 'Lagos template' and hoist it over a ruling party, numerous devilish shemes, not excluding lies, brazen massive vote buying and thuggery, will obviously come in play to armtwist the electorate and finally twist the will of the people, having shamefully realised that the people have long ago lost confidence in the APC. It is therefore imperative that as a means to forestalling this impending 'takeover', Edo people should as they did back in 2020, speak with one voice, a voice of love for a dear state. The good people of Edo State desirous of continuation of unsurpassed infrastructural and human capital development in a secure and serene environment free from intimidation and gaslighting, should seize this moment in time to mobilise themselves and rally round Governor Obaseki and his party, the PDP. This is not a time for sentiments, but a time for action. It is a time to think Edo and protect what makes Edo tick. Edo is swinging on a sling, dangling to and fro between the good on one side, and the poised predators gasping after her common treasury on the other side. Edo is dangling and is tilting, with the children of light and the children of darkness both jumping to take a firm grasp. May the children of light come out victorious this Saturday through PDP. Edo Assembly Poll: Natasha Osawaru seeks support of PDP members in Egor LGA By The Nigerian Observer March 14, 2023 The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Egor constituency in the forthcoming Edo State House of Assembly election, Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, has called upon members of the party in Egor Local Government Area to come out en-masse to campaign and vote for her during the House of Assembly elections on Saturday, March 18, to end the years of marginalization of the LGA. She made the call during a get-together organized by the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Andrew Emwanta Esq., for members of Ward 7 in Egor LGA, saying the PDP members should all be united under the big umbrella to ensure that the party rescues Egor. “Egor has been marginalized since the member elected to represent them refused to go to the House because he was influenced by money from a godfather,” Osawaru said. “We have suffered enough in Egor, and those contesting with me have nothing to lose if Egor remains backward in the scheme of things. But I have a name to protect. I believe that if I must contribute to change Nigeria, I must arrange my home first. “We must not allow division to rob us of victory in the party. Let us come back home and work for the success of the PDP. If you work for the opposition party, you will be a stranger in that party and you will be shooting yourself. But if you vote for me, I will be a voice for everybody,” she noted. Hon. Emwanta, in his welcome address to the PDP gathering described as a family get-together, said it was necessary for members of the party, the women in particular, to rally round and campaign for Natasha Osawaru who will ensure every community in the local government has government presence. “When she is there as a lawmaker, the women will have a voice in government,” Emwanta said. “We must say no to godfatherism. We must say no to anything that will not unite us. We must say yes to ‘Akugbe’. I therefore appeal to all of us to see ourselves as one and vote for Natasha who will not disappoint us because of her family name. She will adopt open door policy whereby all our women and everyone will have a sense of belonging,” he added. A former councilor in the local government area, Hon Agharese Idubor, pointed out that few weeks ago some members of the PDP were divided, but all that was now in the past “Today, there is no more division within the party and we are happy that they have all come together as one to vote a vibrant candidate from a renowned family, Natasha, for the House of Assembly,” he said. Other leaders of the party in the local government area, including the Director General, Health Insurance Commission, Dr. Rock Amegor, former members of the House of Assembly, women leaders, youths and leaders of the Yoruba Community, promised to deliver Natasha Osawaru as the next member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Egor on Saturday. https://nigerianobservernews.com/2023/03/edo-assembly-poll-natasha-osawaru-seeks-support-of-pdp-members-in-egor-lga/ |
We have a Good Story to Tell! Benin Port: FG, Edo govt commence bidding process for devt of 300,000 TEUs per annum project We want to bring to your attention a number of significant developments regarding the Benin River Port Project referred to by many as the Ghele-Ghele port Given its commitment towards the realization of the Benin Port Project, the Godwin Obaseki led administration has relentlessly initiated a policy framework that has fast-tracked the actualization of the core phases of the project. Consequently, the State Government has obtained a clearance certificate for the Outline Business Case (OBC) from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), the ESIA certificate from the Ministry of Environment as well as Certificate of Occupancy ( C of O) for the entire Port Community area. The purpose of the proposed project is to enhance the national water transportation capacity and to develop a multi-purpose port with the capability to handle container and general cargo. The State Government in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation (FMOT) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), have therefore called for bids for the development of the Benin Port (on an area of approximately 20 hectares) under a public-private partnership (PPP). The preferred private partner's responsibilities will include designing, building, financing, operating, maintaining, and transferring land and marine infrastructure, including quays, yards, buildings, infrastructure services, and marine bollards, among others. Building a port is not a walk in the park, the Government of Edo State yet met and exceeded the requirements. The Benin River Port project is on course and will be delivered. Keep Progress in Power. Vote all PDP candidates for House of Assembly election. |
We must not vote for run-away lawmakers who denied their constituents representation for four years, Edo group charges voters 13 Mar 2023 Edo voters have been urged to come out en masse on Saturday, March 18 to reject lawmakers who were voted into the Edo State House of Assembly by their constituents in 2016 but absconded and failed to be inaugurated thereby denying their constituents quality representation in the Assembly. A pro-development group based in Benin City, the Concerned Edo Citizens, at a press conference on Monday, urged voters to elect only credible and competent representatives who will work for the betterment of the state and its people. Speaking on behalf of the group’s conveners, Solomon Idiogbe, urged Edo people to reject the antics of those who betrayed their trust and denied them representation for four years for their selfish interests and those of their godfather. He said, “There are mixed feelings about some House of Assembly members who were duly elected by their constituents but failed to perform their constitutional duties as expected. “The next Edo State House of Assembly election on Saturday is an avenue to set the records straight and determine the peace and progress of Edo state. We should understand that it is beyond casting our votes or exercising our fundamental rights as citizens.” Idiogbe charged, “It is therefore pertinent for us at this point to choose and vote for candidates who can represent our collective interest in this next Saturday's elections.” He further noted, “We condemn, in strong terms, those whose agenda is to pursue a personal vendetta, which can lead to crisis and the distortion of existing peace in the state. We must carefully scrutinize the candidates and vote for them based on competence, track records, and capacity to carry out their legislative duties.” “We support the smooth transition of government which is from incumbent to an elected government in 2024 through a democratic process. We have carefully taken a look at the policies and programmes of the governor and we implore Edo people to also take a keen and sincere look at the governor's policies and programmes and be fair in judging the governor's performance,” the group urged. https://www.godwinobaseki.com/News/we-must-not-vote-for-run-away-lawmakers-who-denied-their-constituents |
Edo: Group urges electorate to reject politics of impeachment March 13, 2023 Patrick Ahanor Ahead of the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly polls, a group under the aegis of Concerned Edo Citizens, Monday, admonished voters to reject political parties propagating impeachment agenda. The group said, “Election is and should be about Edo people voting for those whose agenda is to come and make developmental laws toward a better and prosperous Edo state.” Spokesman for the group, Comrade Solomon Idiogbe, who made the plea in Benin City, Edo state, “condemned those whose agenda is to come and pursue personal political vendetta of impeachment and the likes.” He urged the people to declare propagators of impeachment politics persona non-grata in Edo state “because a progressive Edo state is dear to us all, not crisis.” Obaseki had alleged that “plans are ongoing by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Adams Oshiomhole to rig their way through the election so as to impeach him and stop his developmental programmes.” Continuing, the group said: “We support the smooth transition of government to government, which is from incumbent to whoever shall be elected come 2024 through a democratic process. Therefore we must be supportive of peace to avoid another lockdown.” https://www.blueprint.ng/edo-group-urges-electorate-to-reject-politics-of-impeachment/ |
EDHA: Concerned Edo Citizens frowns at impeachment threat on Obaseki 13th March 2023 From Ighomuaye Lucky, Benin A social-political group, Concerned Citizens of Edo State, have come out against the alleged impeachment threat currently being peddled in some quarters against the state governor, Godwin Obaseki that after the House of Assembly election, the opposition parties with the majority members would impeach him. Addressing reporters, Solomon Idiogbe said there is no doubt that there are mixed feelings about the current administration in the state as regards policies and their implementation especially the controversies surrounding the inauguration of the state House of Assembly members where members- elect were not inaugurated but that the March 18 election is to set the record straight and determine the peace and progress of the state. He said those promoting the impeachment agenda do not mean well for the state as such an act can only lead to more crises in the state noting that the governor is not contesting the election and that such a vendetta move should be aborted. “Thank God, Governor Godwin Obaseki is not on the ballot of this election as the Edo governorship election is for next year, 2024. “That this election is and should be about Edo people voting for those whose agenda is to come and make developmental laws toward a better and prosperous Edo State. “That we condemn in strong terms those whose agenda is to come and pursue personal political vendetta of impeachment and the likes. “That the issue of impeachment as being bandied around by some political leaders, actors and their supporters is irresponsible and could potentially lead to crisis even before the election and will distort the existing peace in our dear state and we all know that there can never be progress without peace”, Igiogbe said. Igiogbe said the group is in dire support of a peaceful and smooth transition of government -to-government just as he appealed to the people of the state to cast votes for candidates of their choice irrespective of political affiliations. https://sunnewsonline.com/edha-concerned-edo-citizens-frowns-at-impeachment-threat-on-obaseki/ |

Edo people wake up, let’s defeat this common enemy against our unity, progress As we countdown to Saturday, March 18 House of Assembly elections, it is important that Edo people recognize the common enemy that stands in the way of their unity and progress. The hydra-headed monster, who in his undying obsession with power has continued to set up illustrious Edo sons against themselves, repressed others and is sowing discord among the people in order to advance his own selfish political interests. Mischievously tactical, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is the real enemy of Edo people. He picks up a fight to destroy a person over personal differences and his selfish political interests and whips up ethnic sentiments in defense of his unjust cause. Do you remember? Oshiomhole vs Anthony Anenih Oshiomhole vs Onojie of Uromi Oshiomhole vs Esama of Benin Oshiomhole vs Pastor Ize Iyamu Oshiomhole vs Chief John Odigie-Oyegun _ and now…_ Oshiomhole vs Godwin Obaseki Edo people, the only way to move forward and make progress is to come together and work for our collective progress and development. It is time for us to set aside our differences and work towards a brighter future. By standing together and rejecting the forces of division, we can build a stronger, more united state that is capable of achieving great things. We must unite to reject the divisive rhetoric of this common enemy and his efforts to undermine the unity and progress of our people and State. It is time to wake up and listen to the voice of reason. We cannot continue to sit back and watch Oshiomhole destroy our beloved and illustrious sons and our State just because of personal differences and his selfish political interests. This Saturday, it is essential to choose representatives who will prioritize the development and well-being of the people of Edo State and not those that will abscond on the vengeful and selfish directive of their godfather. The choice is in your hands, and it is your responsibility to choose wisely and strategically. Eweka Emokpae is a media expert and public opinion analyst, and writes from Benin City |
