............................................... Julian felt so uneasy where he stood. He knew it wasn't the traders' fault but they shouldn't have gone to that height. He heard them mention the price of all she bought. Julian brought out his wallet and realised that he had more than enough money. So he stepped in and volunteered to pay. Slowly the small crowd dispersed booing and snapping their fingers at her. Immediately he counted the money and gave the trader, her face turned into smiles. She thanked him and on turning to the lady, made face at her before entering her stall. Julian picked the bag of purchases from where the woman kept it and placing his arm across the lady's shoulders whose face was buried in shame, he walked her out of the market to his car. He asked her whether she was done with all she wanted to buy. She shook and nodded at the same time. Julian sighted a piece of paper in her hand, squeezed it out and asked her to wait inside the car before leaving. Ten minutes later, he came back with a plastic bag and handed it over to the lady as he entered the car. "Thank you very much for helping me. Words cannot express how grateful I am for what you did for me. You're heaven sent. Thank you. Thank you very much." She expressed gratitude profusely. "It's okay. I did what I could and should. You are very lucky they didn't go beyond that. Emm....I'm Julian, I was posted to this state for my Youth Service four months ago." He introduced and waited for her to say something. "And you are......." "Yvonne" was the simple response. "Yvonne....that's a nice name...as in Yvonne Nelson." He complimented. "Thanks." Julian noticed that she was trying hard to smile and felt pity for her. "Uhm....where are you going to so I can drop you off?" Julian asked concerned. Yvonne turned her head and he nodded reassuringly. When she gave him the address he was very much surprised that she lived a street from his. "Don't ever feel indebted to me." He told her as they were on the road and she nodded. It seemed her mind was halfway to a faraway land. "So, how did the whole incident happen?" He asked, sorry that he had to go back to the issue again. "I'm a second year student of Economics at the University of Benin. I was travelling home before I decide to stop at the market to buy few things before reaching home. I swear, I had money in my handbag but how it got missing, I can't just tell." "It's okay. You should be more careful next time." He advised and she nodded. "Will you like to take anything?" He asked her slowing down as he got near a restaurant and diverted into the parking lot. "No, nothing, thanks." She was quick to say. "I'll be right back." He left and came back later with two bags and handed one over to her but she refused to accept it. "You have done enough for me in a day. I told you not to worry." She said and Julian kept quiet. Just when he was about to protest, a long sound came from her stomach. Feeling embarrassed, she placed her hand on the annoying culprit and managed a side-eye on Julian who was already laughing. "Come on, just take it already. I'm doing this because I feel like. So, please just accept it." After cajoling her a little more, she succumbed and thanked him. Twenty five minutes later, they got to her house and stopped just in front of the gate. "Thank you very much for everything." She said stepping out of the car. "You can contact me if you wish or have any problem." He gave her his complimentary card. "Bye." "Alright, take care." He said and ignited the engine. When the coast was clear, he drove off to his house. ...........................................*..................................... |
seunviju: I no kuku talk anything o vonnLol......me neither. |
Things came back to normal for the Cole family. Alex finally ventured into business and was doing quite well. Mary too was helping the way she could. Duron and Sasha were also doing well. Julian eventually told them all that happened, not leaving out the part about his lookalike. He seriously wanted to know why he wasn't told anything about his twin. But it seemed every other member of the family was shocked. His mum told him of how she gave birth to a set of twins. But then, he disappeared few months before their 1st birthday. They had reported the case to a police station. They had also made enquiries, distributed posters, but nothing positive came out of it. She was so devastated about it that her husband had to take out all his pictures and belongings so she wouldn't be reminded of her loss. He told her it was best they forgot about him and not let julian or any other member of the family know as it would do them no good. Gradually, memories of the loss disappeared till she found it unnecessary to disclose. Hearing about Julian's look alike again brought back memories they thought they had lost. They found themselves yearning to set eyes on him again after so long till Julian dashed their hopes to the rocks with his death. Julian was preparing seriously for his youth service. He had made sure he was done with the necessary clearance before the whole saga and was only buying things he needed. Like others, he reported to camp. He participated in various activities which were very much of fun to him. At the end of three weeks, the camping came to an end and they were posted to their places of primary assignment. Julian saw himself in an oil company. The company offered him accommodation as well as some other members of the corps. After four months, he was quite familiar with the procedure of the activities going on in the company. He was dedicated and efficient in his duties that he was sometimes got tips from other workers. The company house was something else- a large bungalow, fashionably planned and furnished to a rich taste. Since Julian already had a car, he didn't need the company vehicle except in few cases when it was mandatory for him and his colleagues. The duplex with two sitting rooms and seven bedrooms was for the corps members. One day Julian decided to drive round the state in order to get familiar with some areas. He was amazed that some places were still very undeveloped. He saw how people struggle everyday to make ends meet. He felt for these people and wished that there was any way he could help. His mind flashed back to his family and how things were for them before he intervened, though through a negative means. Julian parked his car near a market and entered to buy some foodstuffs for the week. He was through with his purchase and was about leaving when a little scene caught his attention. A female trader was shouting and mocking a lady of about twenty years. Julian could not understand the reason for that so he moved closer and directed the question to one of the women around. Women had natural gifts of gossip so it was not hard to get her tongue rolling. Julian was made to know that the lady though dressed nicely had come to the stall to buy foodstuff. She had done her purchases which she added to the ones in her bagco bag. She dipped her hand into her handbag to get out money for the payment but the money never came out with the hand. Instead she started lamenting and sobbing that they had killed her. "That's how they go about looking for whom to deceive, all these prostitutes. Look at how dressed she is but she can't even pay for what she bought." A woman shouted from behind. "This is not the first time this type of thing is happening in this market. If you don't have money in your pocket, abeg do not come here looking for pity because we need it too. We struggle everyday, morning to night to pay our children's school fees and feed the family. Abeg do not leave her oo till she pays or you carry back your things." Another woman in a nearby stall chipped in. People were passing comments according to how they felt. Nobody even allowed the lady who was already soaked with perspiration and tears to explain. To them, there was nothing to explain anymore. They would not even allow her to leave the scene as they surrounded her, some poking her. ............................................ {Pardon me.......I can't speak pidgin(market scene)} More loading..... |

Was sooo engrossed in a story by KingzPen that I forgot my duty. I'll punish me for that. ************** A week later, he received a call from his mum that his father was missing. The abductors demanded Julian as ransom. When Julian heard this he felt weak. he already knew it was nobody but Electric. He was still pondering over what next to do when his phone started ringing. "What do you want from me?" He screamed. "Don't get so scared lil baby." He taunted. "Where is my father? I want to know that he's safe." "Okay, not a problem at all." "Julian." A faint voice said from the other end. "Dad." "Don't worry, I'm fine." "Dad you're not. you're weak. What did they do to you? These bastards, idiots......." He cursed. "Shut up. Do you think you were given the green light to insult us. That's not a problem. Now listen and listen good.....if we don't see you........" He went ahead to give him the location. He was told to bid his father goodbye if he was not seen at the appointed time and venue. Julian realised that it was not a kind of game he could play on his own. He told Justina everything they said and she decided to help. When they got ready, they went down to the police station with a worried Julian. After narration, they were asked to write statement after which Julian was free from any harassment by the Police. "I'm here." Julian phoned when he got to the venue. "I warn you again. If the Police is involved, your father will be dead." Electric threatened through the phone. "I know. Just me and Mrs Justina." Was the simple reply from Julian. Seconds later, a small gang of four men came into view with a blindfolded older man being led by one of them. That was Julian's father. "Release him and am all yours." He boldly said. His father tried to protest but Julian ignored him. "What if you don't do as said?" "You've got guns in your hands, don't you?" Electric smiled when he heard that and nodded. Immediately. The father was pushed to them, Mrs Justina took him and they moved out quickly leaving Julian behind. Just as planned, the policemen emerged suddenly from behind them but Electric had felt their presence earlier so he quickly dived into the bush and was gone. The remaining three were arrested and taken to the station with them. Julian's father was taken to hospital for treatment. "Thank you for everything you did for my son and I. We are grateful to you." Alex thanked Justina. "It was a pleasure trying to help. I hope to see you people some other time but real soon." She said. "We'll definitely visit on a sunday, but before then, we'll let you know what to prepare for us." Alex jokingly added. "No problem......my regards to your wife and children." She called out as the cab driver got into motion and they zoomed off. It was a moment of joy and reunion for the Cole family as friends and well-wishers called in to welcome them. There was merriment till late in the evening. ........................ |
TiffanyJ: Welldone ma. More ink to your penYou too ma. You're obviously among the very best here. |
LogoDWhiz: I'm enjoying this story like kilode.Chris knew him when Julian was still in school but Julian had no idea. Julian only realised for the first time on that robbery day. He never knew. He had not asked his parents about that either. |
CHAPTER 6 "My God!" Justina exclaimed after Julian had told his story without holding anything back. She wondered why such a young and handsome boy had to face such in life. "You'll have to be very careful now. It's not even safe to go out because they can be anywhere. If you want something, I'll try and get it for you, okay?" Julian just nodded. He knew that what she said about staying indoors in the meantime was for the best. But how long was it going to last." He wondered. "You must be hungry. I'll arrange for your food." She said and called on the maid, Tope, to set the meal. That day, Julian ate and slept well for the first time in days. Justina did not bother to wake him. "It'll do him good." She said to herself. Julian was woken by the rays of light penetrating into his room and falling on his face. When he looked at the clock, he realised that it was morning. He had slept till 7:30 the next morning. Getting down sluggishly from the bed, he headed to the bathroom. He looked around and saw a new toothbrush pack. Justina was thoughtful to get him a new one. He quickly cleaned up and went downstairs. He got to the kitchen and found Tope who told him that Justina went to do some shopping but would be back in no time. This information left him a chance of having a tour round the house and its large compound. Later in the day, he decided to call his family, to let them know that he was okay. "Ma?" She turned to find out why he was calling. "Can I use your phone please? I don't have enough airtime" He requested. "No problem." Julian entered his room and sat down. "Mum it's me, Julian." "Julian? Oh thank God you're still alive. Your phone was switched off as at when we tried reaching you. We heard what happened... But why did you venture into such?" She asked sadly. "Don't worry mum, you won't understand but thank God I escaped it. How did you know?" He asked, very surprised. "We were driving through the same route when we heard the bomb blast. We were scared to the marrow till we sighted policemen. On getting closer, five dead bodies were lying by the roadside. We were made to understand by the police that they were armed robbers. We were asked to cooperate for thorough checking. Just then, a boy, apparently one of them was dragged and forcefully made to sit by the roadside. His eyes were fixed on me. I was so afraid that I decide to move to another corner. That was when it struck me that I've seen him somewhere. His picture is in your phone. " How many were caught?" "He was the only one alive till he also killed himself." "How?" "He snatched a gun from an unsuspecting policeman and shot himself." "I'm very sorry. I just wanted what's best for the family." Julian apologised with regrets. "It's okay, but where are you now?" She asked. Julian explained where he was and how he would be in danger if he decided to go back home. In conclusion, he asked them to always pray for him. Lying on the bed, he wondered how things were going to work out. His mother had told him of his posting to Abuja but he had to survive first of all. He was not going to involve the Police in that situation or he would implicate himself too so he decided to play the game slowly. ............................ |
Flakkydagirl: Really nice one Vonn......I salute you ma! Honoured to have you here. I'll keep doing my best. |

True to her words, she came back the following day to see him. She also brought food and fruits for him. "Good morning." She greeted when she walked into the ward. "Hope you're getting better?" She asked. "Well, you can see for yourself. At least the pains has subsided and I can sit upright, though I have not tried walking." He grinned. "You're.......Julian right?" Julian gave her a look that read 'how did you know'. "Your wristband." She said realising he was surprised and Julian nodded, calming down. "I'm happy you're improving rapidly. I got your phone for you. I noticed it in my car this morning." She said bringing out the phone from her handbag and handing it over to him. "Thanks a lot. I thought I'd dropped it....somewhere else." He expressed his gratitude surveying the phone to know if it was actually his. Then he place it on the bedside table. "I brought you some food, here." She directed bringing out a medium sized food flask from the plastic bag she was with. As he was eating, Justina asked him what he was doing before the accident. "I'd rather not discuss that." He snapped closing his eyes. "It's okay." She shrugged not wanting to open memories, be it good or not. Julian was almost lost in thought before she brought him back. "Your phone is ringing."She signalled at him. Julian picked it up to take the call when he noticed that the number was very unfamiliar. Hesitating for a moment, he picked it, brought the phone to his ear and waited. "Hello again. Hope you're gaining quick recovery?" "Who's this?" "Forgotten Electric so soon...." Julian jerked from the bed and with much difficulty limped to the window. Looking out he searched hurriedly for the caller. "No...no...no, don't panic. You're still in a pretty bad condition." "Show yourself." Julian sounded with a faked tone of authority. "Uh..uh. Let's mean business. You can't run or hide from me even if you wish to. Now I'm going to do you a favour. I give you just a week to get well enough to return to the gang. Four of us are still waiting." "And what if I don't? Are you going to force me? I'm talking to you, are..." Julian blared but the line was dead. "Damn it....shit...." He swore. "What's wrong?" Justina asked confused. Julian looked at her for a moment and limped back to the bed with uttering a word. "Julian why were you shouting?" "I need some rest." Was all he could say. There was silence except for the murmurs of 'shit' from Julian. Justina looked on for a while before getting up to leave. "I'll check on you tomorrow. Hopefully, you would be discharged. But in the meantime, finish your food, okay." She pleaded before walking out. Turning his eyes on the food again, Julian lost his appetite. "The doctor said you're good to go and would be discharged today. I've already paid the bills." Justina informed him when she came the next day. "Thank you." "So what happens after you're out....." She was interrupted by a nurse. "The doctor wants to see you both." She said and left. "Let's go." They got up and went towards the doctor's office. After much advice to Julian from the doctor, some drugs were prescribed for him to enhance his recovery. Standing up, they thanked him and left the office. As they were walking down the hallway, Justina asked the question again. "Where do you plan on going from here? Do you know someone around?" Julian was silent for a while. The only the thought came to him was after Electric called. He was so angry that he postponed the issue to the future. "The fact is that I'm in trouble. I don't even know where to go. I mean.....I'm just scared." He admitted. "Scared? Scared of what?" "Of....it's a long story." He sighed. "Well, you can stay over at my place till you're ready to go home." She offered. "I'd love to. Thank you very much." "My pleasure." She smiled as they got to the parking lot. Finding her car was not difficult. They got in and zoomed off. ********************************************** End of Chapter 5 |
Bhummieluv: New follower *shy*Lol.......thanks luv. Your welcome. Grab a seat......... |
...................................... "Ouch! Julian cried when he came around the next day. "Easy on yourself. You need to have some rest." A nurse advised him. "Where am I? Where is my brother?" He kept asking. "Please, be calm. You're not okay and......" "Yes I am. I need to get out of here." He stated and tried to get out of bed but his legs felt numb. His head was heavy and aching badly. He fell back with unease. Seconds later, he struggled again but to no avail, so he gave up trying. His head was already spinning and his vision was blurred. Just then a doctor walked into the ward. After what seemed like eternity to Julian which was just five minutes, the doctor left. "You've got to rest since you're still weak. In no time you'll be fine." The nurse assured him. As Julian closed his eyes, the last thing he could remember the previous night was emerging from the bushes and flashes of light obstructing his vision. Then there was blackout. Very tired, he drifted off to sleep again. When he finally woke up, it was well into the day. Julian kept mute for sometime to recall where he was. Seconds later, it flashed in his mind and he felt more relaxed. "Nurse, he's awake." The elderly woman who had knocked Julian down called. To the nurse. "How are you feeling now?" The nurse inquired. "Better than before." "Good." Turning to the woman, she reminded her that she had only thirty minutes left to stay with him and she nodded the nurse left. Julian was surprised to see an unfamiliar face as his visitor. "The nurses said that with this rate of recovery, you'll be out of here in two days." She assured him and he just nodded. There was a period of silence between them. "I'm Mrs Justina. I'm very sorry for what happened." "Its okay for visitors to console the sick, so you've got no problem.....thank you."Julian replied. "No, I mean that I accidentally hit you with my car yesterday." Immediately she said that, pains veiled Julian's face as he shut his eyes tightly and faced the wall. "I'm very sorry. I was speeding so I didn't see you on time, moreover you just dashed out from the bush like you were being chased. Anyway, I'll pay the hospital bill when you're discharged so you don't need to worry." "Thanks." Julian managed to say after a while. The woman spent more ten minutes with him before leaving, promising to be back the next day. ............................................... |
................................................................................... "I have a confession to make. I know I'm gonna die anyway, so just listen to me. I grew up in the wrong hands so I never really understood love. Back in school, Tonia was a bad person who kept secrets from you. Don't ask how I knew, I just did. She died last week in a fight, probably with anti-cults." Julian's mouth was agape. "the first time I really got close to you was the day at the ATM.....you remember?" Julian just nodded. "The people thought we were together, so nobody suspected anything. That's aside." He coughed and continued. "I took your place when you finished exams and went home. Your girlfriend of course noticed no difference. That gave me ample time to study her. I...I shot those female students........" "What! How could you do that to your brother, yet you say you've found love." Julian barked with anger but Chris had not finished. "it wasn't my fault that my picture was taken by someone and you were arrested instead. So I bribed the Police and got you out. I wanted to spend time with you, that was why I made you join us. I know you're annoyed right now but it's too late to blame somebody for this. Here, take this......it brings luck." He said giving Julian a necklace. "I wish I'd seen mum and dad before now. Well, tell them how much I loved them. Now get out of here." "You're coming with me. I won't leave you here." Julian insisted. "My leg hurts a lot. I've lost blood. I can't survive this. Just go, they'll soon be here." Julian reluctantly ran out of the shelter through the only window in the structure as fast as his legs could carry him without looking back. After running for a long time, he stopped to rest. Turning, he discovered to his surprise that from where he stood, he could still catch a view of the shelter. He fixed his gaze on the building to see if he could make out a figure moving or if Chris would come out. What really came out was a bomb blast. Julian was rooted at a spot. Tears welled up in his eyes and he allowed them to drop freely. He had not cried for quite a long time but the thought that his newly found twin brother was dead made him cry the more. He had barely known Chris as his twin than he lost him forever. His only anger was that they could not get to have a proper conversation as brothers. Julian checked his wristwatch, it was few minutes before 7 o'clock. He had to get to somewhere safe before it was totally dark. So he gathered his strength and ran. Finally, he could hear the sounds of car zooming past signifying that he was near a town. As he staggered out of the bush, the flashlight from headlamps of vehicles almost blinded him. As he was trying to obstruct the light from his eyes, an oncoming car hit him but came to a halt. The elderly woman driving the car started panicking. She called on passers-by who helped her carry Julian into her car and she sped off to the nearest hospital. Julian was unconscious, bleeding from a head injury. ................................................................................... |

Annais: Madam Vonn, well done o! First time to comment.Hehehehehehe.........thanks hon... |
******************************************* "Run!!" Christian shouted. They had been caught unawares. That was a set-up but it was too late by the time they knew it. They all thought that the contents of the van was already theirs without knowing that they had surprise packages. Christian jumped into the bush and Julian followed siut. Nearby, one other member screamed and fell. He had obviously been hit by a bullet. Confused, they almost started running in cricles. It was just as if they were the only ones left. After running a reasonable distance in the bush, they stopped to rest. It was getting late, around 6:15pm. "Chris do you think we can still make it?" Julian asked in fright, also trying to regain his breathe. "We just have to keep trying." He replied. Just then, the plicemen started firing shots in the air. Unfortunately, a bullet hit Christian in the right leg. "Arrrgghhh.... God!!!! Shit... Shit" he kept screaming. Julian immediately popped a handkerchief into his mouth to stop him from giving them away to the police. "We have to go further. It's not safe here. They can track us down from the noise you just made." Julian reasoned as he pulled Christian with his might and through his help, they hurriedly left the place. True to his words, the policemen took the direction the scream came from but when they got there, they found no one, not even a corpse. They searched around and were about to give up when one of them discovered a blood trail. It never occured to Julian to cover the wound too to avoid blood dripping. The policemen jumped into action. They could be mistaken for hunters as they poked their noses and eyes here and there. Julian and Christian got to a small house still in the bush, probably a little shade for the farmers and hunters. They decided to rest a little. Julian was still panting when Chris called his attention. "I wanted to have a discussion with you when we get but who knows if there's still a chance of survival for me." He said smiling regrettably. "Both of us are getting out of this mess, alive." Julian hopefully told him. "Please dont't panic." He begged Julian. Slowly Christian pulled the mask over his head. Seconds ticked away. "Dont tell me what I'm thinking is true." Julian said with eyes almost bulging out. Chris ignored him. ...................................................................................... (Far from what you're already thinking)*winks |
***************************************** "Why does he even hide his face behind those masks? Am I the only one who has never seen his face?" Julian thought aloud on the bed he shared with two other guys. That was a four days after his visit to his family. He was thinking that since he had been a member of the gang for a while then, it was unfair for Christian not to have shown his real identity yet. Christian had told him his reason was that he had a bad facial scar, so didn't like people seeing the real him. "Haven't I earned enough of his trust?" He asked himself. Realising that he could not get the answers from the ceiling, he decided to wait and see to the end. There was a knock on the door and it flung open before he could usher the person in. It was Christian. "Get ready to roll. You're my back-up." He said. "Where to?" "We got a tip from a friend. Just way-laying a bank vehicle." He said and turned to leave but remembered something. "I'll like to have a serious discussion with you when we get back. Remind me of that." He said and left the room. Everyone got prepared as they had just an hour left. They got to a lonely road with bushes sideways and parked their bus. They went behind the vehicle to lift out the big and heavy truck tyres. This would make it impossible for the bank vehicle to pass. There and then they would carry out their operation without any waste of time. The rest hid in the bushes with their guns positioned well and set to release fire while three held the two tyres. One of the tyres was lying at the other end of the road. The road was almost deserted except for one or two vehicles that passed at intervals. They didn't wait for more than fifteen minutes before one of them sighted three vehicles from afar. One was a Mercedes 230E while the two behind were no doubt from the bank. They became alert as they staged their plan. They wanted it to seem like they were rolling the tyres to the other side of the road. In the middle, one of the tyres fell and the vehicles had to slow down and wait for them to move out. A policeman jumped out of the bank van and walked up to them shouting angrily as they were trying to apologise, all in pretence. They hurriedly carried up the tyre and rolled away as the policeman stood watching them. The Mercedes drove off as the policeman was walking back to the van. Suddenly, gunshots from nowhere sent him lying on the road, dead. This was like a go-ahead order to the rest. They rained shots everywhere killing the two drivers and one other policeman seated in the other van. Other vehicles that were plying the same route came to abrupt end on their different lanes. With sharp turns, the lucky ones sped off back to where they were coming from. The ones that collided with oncoming vehicles who were also trying to pull their cars into reverse had no other option but to run out and dive into the bushes, with hope of escaping from stray bullets. After what seemed like seven seconds after the shootings, they started appearing from their hiding places as the coast seemed clear. One of them used a crowbar on the padlock and it gave way. Immediately the doors were widely opened, gunshots were fired from the van and three of Christian's men dropped dead instantly. ...................................................................................... |
