Actually funded my Amazon wallet for the purchase already Lexusgs430: Why not explore purchasing locally?..... Is that cheap, in comparison............ |

E reach to ask me Nope, but frm Amazon USA Lexusgs430: Are you getting the device free from the USA?... |
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Vooom: 10:42am On Nov 21, 2020 |
Sorry I mistyped earlier I meant to say Amazon price is very high. I would check with DHL if they can receive the item and send to me in uk Thanks Lexusgs430: Why not just use normal post or DHL?..... It would arrive in under 7 days (but be prepared to be slammed an import duty fee)......
For phones you gave eBay/gumtree/FBMP etc etc...... Very risky though........
You could buy the phone legitimately, but a few weeks or months later, seller blacklists it.........
Best to spend £200 buying a new mid ranger, than £600 on a used flagship, that later gets blacklisted......... |

So I got a feedback from my school that only full time students can be exempted TRAY2: Yes you are exempted from paying council tax, but you need to email your tax exemption certificate from your University to your council with your details. That is what i did, as i am in the same shoes with you, make i enjoy council tax freedom for one year at least. |

Really Sounds really awesome Any specific detail they would demand? If i apply for it and get now, does it have any expiration? Because I may not be renting my own apartment in uk until march TRAY2: Yes you are exempted from paying council tax, but you need to email your tax exemption certificate from your University to your council with your details. Thanks for responding Really wished i could do it I feel the immigration may allow obviously because of tips but i only hope it won't affect my immigration checks during departure Phenmeson: You can only renew your passport when is less than 6months. Your Passport number will be different from the old one. |

Wow @the 6months rule. I would coverse with an immigration guy and confirm Thanks for responding LagosismyHome: Nigerian rule states you can only renew your passport 6 months to expiration date . Meaning September can be renewed only from March.
Whether they keep to that rule is another conversation , but since you are in Nigeria. You can easily check if it can be renewed |

[Thank you I expect my school ID soon here in 9ja Would mail them at my school to clarify about the council tax exemption Bourne007: Ask for Council tax exemption letter from your Uni and forward if you qualify. Some councils will ask for student ID and they will verify directly with the uni. |

Thanks Mine should still fall under this. As it is longer than the on campus study LagosismyHome: Google or the school would be the best to check on this . Personally I dont know . I checked on open university as I know it is an online program and it states open university students dont qualify as it classified as "part time study "..... so I guess same will apply to you as you are working as well as school so the schooling would be part time

Just to ask, sorry to bother. As an NHS staff also on an online postgraduate program in UK but on a tier 2 visa, would i qualify for this council tax exemption you Just mentioned? LagosismyHome: Make sure it comes furnished.... since you are a student do not touch any flat that comes unfurnished.
2 bed or 1 bed will be a personal choice. .. council tax is exempt for student so the other difference in bills light, gas, electricity might not be so much between the two. |

Where can we find such persons outside here? I am still trying to get used to this platform erico2k2: you need to know the mkt rate ie abokifax, then target people who send money to 9ja monthly cos they do in bulk ie 1k to 2 k pounds |

Thanks for all your response so far
For those resident in or knowledgeable about northern Lincolnshire (Grimsby) other than the regular NHS job what other side opportunities does the location offer?
And for a person relocating there soon, what key information would be relevant to know?
Thanks for the response |

tshoboy: The NIGERIAN BDC stores would sell at which rate? CBN or which?
By account you mean my 9ja dorm account?
The reality is that it’s difficult to bypass the black market. Even if you open a domiciliary account, you will still need to source the FX to be deposited there from black market as I am not sure Nigerian banks will sell FX for you to deposit in a domiciliary account. With black market. You can leave the Naira in your Nigerian account. When you get here, you will eith er 1. sell the Naira on this platform like a number of people do or 2. If you will be based in London. Walk into any of the Nigerian BDC stores and sell to them. They will give you £ in cash and some of them can transfer to your £ account. Transfer to your account is preferable because UK banks can be moving mad with large sum deposits. |

Thanks so much But getting a private individual to offer such seems difficult TheGuyFromHR: This is your only viable option (including any pounds to naira in Nigeria deal a private individual might offer you). You can't transfer any meaningful amount of naira out of Nigeria as most banks have limits around $200. |

Meanwhile, will buying pounds from black market Favour me? Or how else do you advise i fund the account?

Please kindly help
What is the most profitable method of taking ones savings from a 9ja account to UK?
An option was--Opening a pound domiciliary account (knowing that black market pound rate is expensive to fund the account)
Or which method is advised?
Asking for one who would travel to the UK before the year ends. |

Good to see that there are a lot more Nigerians in the NE than I originally thought. I have worked in Grimsby and live close by, but my working career has taken me around most remote towns in the NE. The NE is a hidden goldmine for healthcare professionals, most people tend to think that London and the south is where the money is.
|
