Update SIM Card Record: Few days ago the Nigeria Communication Commission stopped all Mobile Service Providers (MSP) in the country to stop SIM card registration. It seems there is going to be more to that as they release new updates regarding already registered users.

The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) convened an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the Communications industry on Monday, December 14, 2020.

This meeting included Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Management of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), as well as the CEOs and Management staff of all service providers in the industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, all parties involved saw the need to improve the performance and sanity of the sector. And after much deliberation, all stakeholders agreed that urgent drastic measures have now become inevitable to improve the integrity and transparency of the SIM registration process.

So below is the new directive from NCC regarding SIM card registration and already registered SIM card records.

Update SIM Card Record: What NCC wants from Mobile Operators and Nigerians

All network operators in the country is expected to:

1. Affirmation of the earlier directive to totally suspend registration of NEW SIMs by all operators.

2. Operators to require ALL their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records.

3. The submission of NIN by subscribers to take place within two weeks (from today December 16, 2020 and end by 30 December, 2020).

4. After the deadline, ALL SIMs without NINs are to be blocked from the networks.

5. A Ministerial Task Force comprising the Minister and all the CEOs (among others) as members is to monitor compliance by all networks.

6. Violations of this directive will be met by stiff sanctions, including the possibility of withdrawal of operating license.

What is NCC actually requesting Nigerians and Mobile Operators to do?

1. For mobile operators to update the SIM card registration of all their customers.

2. That Nigerians should get ready to spend the next two weeks making themselves available to update their SIM card records.

Why The Samsung Galaxy Note20 Might Be Cheaper Than Galaxy Note10

The main reason why Samsung might consider a reduction of the selling price of the incoming Galaxy Note20 is due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. A report on May 2020 shows that there was a huge fall in shipment of phones globally. This Report went on to show how it affected various smartphone companies.

Samsung was also hit by the Covid 19 pandemic and this is might be forcing their hands to lower the price of the Galaxy Note20. According to Herald Economy, the rumored starting price of Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is about 1.45 Million South Korean Won ($1208). While the Galaxy Note 20 base variant will cost about 1.2 Million South Korean Won ($999).

This is cheaper than the Galaxy Note10 last year that cost about 1.24 Million South Korean Won ($1040). While the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus costs about 1.49 Million South Korean Won ($1246). Going by the above, we can see that the Galaxy Note 10 of last year is about $44 cheaper while the Galaxy Note10 Plus is about $38 cheaper than the Galaxy Note 20 ultra.

Currently there are lots of rumors flying around regarding the incoming Samsung Galaxy Note20. But, we have seen the first leaks and it looks pretty good. While we await the official release by Samsung come August, we want you to know what these rumors means.

For Samsung to sell the incoming flagship cheaper means two things. First, they might not be maxing out on all premium features. There are going to likely be compromise in some areas. The latest version of Google Photos is said to be coming with a chat feature. The Day 1 of the Snapdragon Summit came with lots of news and surprises. One of the talking points of the day 1 was the announcement about three newly released chipsets by QUALCOMM, the Snapdragon 865, 765 and 765G. All the newly released Mobile Platform support 5G and advance AI.

The summary of the event brings us to its download experiment. It was observed that the MTN 5G network downloads files at almost the speed of light. Unlike 4G that download files at an estimated 70Mbs (Mbs = megabyte per second), the newly tested MTN 5G network download files at an estimated 1 Gbs (Gbs = gigabyte per second).

During the test, the MTN 5G network was used to download a file of 2.3GB and it took about 15.8 seconds to complete the download.
