We need 30000 mw at least before we can see light 24/7. That's a lot of money and total deregulation, not the partial one tinubu is doing is a start.

Back when sim cards were costing 10000 naira or more, service was bad because the GSM companies had to build things from scratch. Nitel had zero GSM infrastructure for them to work with. That's why GSM was expensive until investment and completion came in eventually

Our power sector, even at 22000 mw the current. Installed capacity cannot give us light at all for 24/7. The transmission system was new in the 1970s. Both need fixing, and it is billions of dollars before we can see some sense.

I wish there was another way. Solar can only do so much

Do you want to compare GSM service with electricity supply?

If Nigeria can't effectively achieve 24/7 supply of electricity, why enforce a ridiculous rate on the customers when you can't meet the condition? That is fraud in itself. I expect a lot of Nigerians to go into litigation against the DISCOs or do bypass.

The government must provide adequate electricity to justify the bill rate applicable on customers.

Stop being silly and unreasonable

Things take time. We have a electricity sector that hasn't had major investment for decades. With a transmission system that is getting upgraded to transmit 25000 mw after decades of no investment, and that 25000 is not going to do nothing. We need 33000 before we can talk of 24/7 power.

Look, I'm not here to defend tinubu . I've been reading up on our power sector since 2013 when I was trying to understand why gej wanted to privatized the thing . And what I read back then opened my eyes. And the painful thing is governments have been doing subsidy instead of free market things.

We are in a bad situation. And getting out of it is not going to take us one month.

It took us 10 years before we had a GSM sector that could do telephony and internet. And it was built from scratch with prices being high.

Is there any country in the world that doesn't do subsidy on any essential or basic necessity good or service?

Tell me why government should subsidize electricity or power?

EVEN IF THEY ONLY GIVE POWER FOR ONLY ONE HOUR A DAY....WHO IS LOSING WHO IS GAINING?

IS IT NOT WHEN THERE IS ELECTRICITY THAT THE METER WILL BE READING?

ABI DOES PREPAID METER READ AGAIN WHEN THERE IS NO LIGHT?

Hmm. You have brought your daft mind to the table. Between you and Nigerians, who do you think is stupid?

The increased rate is expected to be applied for consumers who access power for 20-24hrs per day. But the situation now is that those customers will not get that up to 20hrs of power supply in a day yet they will be charged at the increased rate.

You see that you are sick in the mind, unintelligent and perhaps lack comprehensice skills.

No wonder this babanriga crispy dollar bribe stuffing crook started sycophancy and asslicking before his tenure ended just to get a soft landing with the signature fellow criminal he is romancing now. So much moral burden for anti corruption fight under the APC.

Don't mind Ganduje, the crime accusations were committed in Kano so why can't the state prosecute him?

Business / AEDC Has Become Very Annoying In Some Areas of Abuja by Wallade(m): 10:11pm On Apr 05
AEDC has completely stopped supplying electricity to some areas in Apo and Lokogoma.

They are specialists at arbitrary billing and increase in rates but to deliver the electricity is a big challenge for them

They are so incompetent and un-progressive. They have turned my neighborhood into a generator and solar power zone.

Yet you see them moving around with ladders every other day to disconnect electricity that they don't supply regularly.

The conniving NERC is so embarrassing and unbecoming. It is not enough to fine AEDC, it is important to ensure they still supply electricity aswell to category B, C, D and E electricity consumers.

As much as I detest godfatherism, Fubara sold his loyalty to Wike when he chose to be planted into the office of the governor by Wike.

Politics / Re: The Truth About CBN Control Of Spiking Dollar FX Rate by Wallade(m): 4:21pm On Apr 01

That research should be made by you. I didn't mention anything there out of head. Look it up, Emefiele stopped selling IN 2021,
https://www.cbn.gov.ng/Out/2021/CCD/CBN%20Update%202021%20(July)%20.pdf

this link directly from cbn website will download the official CBNUPDATE, July,2021 publication with Issue no: 2695-2394, Titled "CBN discontinues Sale of Forex to BDCs". So where are you coming from ? Ignorance ?

By saying BDCs were re-integrated into monetary policy, it means the CBN has once again made BDCs a tool for controlling market pressures on the value of the currency hence the special rate provided to select BDCs (Monetary Policy). Other than this these BDCs would have still bought dollar from CBN but not on a special relationship but as any other regular company or person.

Yes, you lots congregate in Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Onitsha and Kano and think the country is doing well. Your country is rotting.

Did you read this part on my post:

"Emeifele tried to stop sale of forex to BDCs in 2021 but he couldn't sustain it eventually".

CBN has approved the use of BDCs for ages. The operation of BDC predates you - you haven't been born since CBN started using BDCs to sell dollars to the public. BDCs were for good purpose until the state government, some commercial banks and speculators started using BDCs for nefarious, corrupt and manipulative activities.

Your statement : "Yes, you lots congregate in Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Onitsha and Kano and think the country is doing well. Your country is rotting" is immature and unreasonable.

Business / Re: Why Naira(ngn) Is Appreciating by Wallade(m): 4:05pm On Apr 01
Birdbyrde440:
The answer is simple, the FG through the CBN is stifling competition and free market activities in the FX market.
First, they refused to clear all fx backlogs, only 'verified ' ones.

Second they made it impossible for bureau de change to serve the needs of large fx demands, mandating all fx needs to be acquired through banks with a $500 cap.

Third they banned binance(as Buhari banned Twitter), tricked and arrested binance executives thereby shutting down the online fx marketplace.

Soon they will start price fixing when inflation goes out of control. When the fx issue goes out of control again the next move will be to ban imports.

Banning banning banning!

It seems you are one of those forex speculators? Your lamentations are epic.

What do you mean by government is stifling competition and free market activities?

Should CBN clear FX backlogs that are questionable and fraudulently packaged?

Should BDCs serve the needs of large FX demand customers in the first place? Such demands should be routed through the commercial banks in the first place.

Your fellow speculators have been using the Binance platform to manipulate the rate of exchange of dollars to naira.

You are a sore looser, better go and sell your remaining stock of dollars to limit your losses.

Education has taken new lows in Nigeria so I remain not surprised. Prior to re-including BDCs in monetary policy for this currency scheme. BDCs got their dollar from transacting with the public and through back yard deals with commercial banks which notable experts have exposed and condemned.

The problem is not CBN selling directly to these people but it's the fact that they do it at a rate that artificially brings down the value of the dollar.

I shouldn't be arguing with people like you, you know why ? Because time always proves the truth right. We called out Buhari for 8 years over incompetency and failure, you coated your short-sightedness, bigotry and tribalism with all sort of excuses, deflections and jibes yet today we are vindicated. Continue defending rubbish, give it 10 years, your collective stupidity will manifest before your eyes.

The rest of sensible Africa is making giant strides but here their entire world revolves around Lagos. If Lagos builds a railway that was built in Indonesia 20 years ago, the entire country thinks they've made progress. grin grin Fools

Oga, when you want to do articles like this one, you should do some research on your points so you don't misinform the public.

Bureau De Change has always been operational in Nigeria, including during Buhari, Jonathan government. Emeifele tried to stop sale of forex to BDCs in 2021 but he couldn't sustain it eventually. What do you mean by: "re-including BDCs in monetary policy for this currency scheme"?

BDCs have always been buying dollars from CBN except for the ones that had withdrawn licences or those blacklisted. Though they also buy from the public and through back yard deals with commercial banks.

And honestly, this is the most unreasonable and idiotic statement I have read all day: "but here their entire world revolves around Lagos. If Lagos builds a railway that was built in Indonesia 20 years ago, the entire country thinks they've made progress. grin grin Fools"

Why would you say this?

I am not a fan of Apabio so I don't really care what you say about him.

However, I don't agree with your opinion: "south west has always been a breeding ground for corruption right from time immemorial, thieves"

Is there any region of Nigeria that isn't corrupt. Corruption is everywhere and endemic in Nigeria. If you are not engaging tribal bigotry, you should know that.

What is transparent that you have noticed in these state and federal government, senate or house of assemblies (national and state), local governments?

The last government had the support of majority of the northerners despite all the corruption, atrocities and misrule.

You are most likely in support of the government of your state (Akwa Ibom) even though there is a lot of corruption and misrule in your state.
