Car Talk / Re: The Differences Between 4, 6, 8, 12… Cylinders by wallrichy: 7:56pm On Sep 08, 2023
Lovely piece and more knowledge. Thanks

AutoHubNG:
You probably understand the importance of your car’s engine because without a working engine, you won’t get very far, but most of us don’t know much about how vehicle engines work. When identifying your car’s engine type, it usually comes down to the cylinders. So, what exactly is a cylinder? We’ll go over this, as well as some other engine parts you should know about.

Cylinders are an important part of your car’s engine. Whenever you look at the engine bay of either a newer or an older car, you’ll see the configuration as it’s usually quite noticeable even if it’s only just a quick glance. The cylinders are usually located in front and at the centre. Most of us associate the number of cylinders with power, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, that isn’t always the case.

Car cylinders are a lot like the pot you use to cook your food. It’s not the cylinder itself that is powerful, but what it holds. Car cylinders contain fuel; the more cylinders you have, the more fuel you can use at one time. It’s the same with cooking pots and pans. You can’t cook 2 litres of soup in a 1-litre pot.

Now with that said, let’s briefly touch on a few parts:

The cylinders – are made of durable metal and are sealed at one end. The other end opens and closes. The cylinder has a tight-fitting piston that slides up and down, and two valves that open and close to let something in or shut everything out.

Intake valve – lets fuel and air into the cylinder (from the carburetor or injector).

Exhaust valve – allows exhaust gases to escape.

Spark plug – sits at the top of the cylinder and it creates a spark that ignites the fuel.

Piston – is located at the bottom of the cylinder and is attached to a shaft called the crankshaft.

Crankshaft – provides power to the car’s transmission and drives the wheels.

The real difference between 4, 6, 8, 12… cylinders

If you should only know one thing about car engines, it should be the difference between a 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder, 8-cylinder, & a 12-cylinder engine (could be more – it was intentional to use the image of a W-16 Bugatti engine in the title-graphic). Since cylinders are like cooking utensils that hold fuel, the more you have, the more fuel you burn. When you have more cylinders, you create more motion to turn the crankshaft, which provides more power to the car. But as you may have discovered by now, more cylinders also mean you’ll burn a lot more fuel, and faster.

That’s why faster or more powerful cars are almost always less fuel-efficient than most economy cars. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that more cylinders equals a faster car. Again, that is not always the case. In fact, most trucks and pick-ups use 6, 8, 10 or even 12-cylinder engines in some cases – but you won’t see an F150 winning a race against a regular sized 6-cylinder sports car. More cylinders mean more power, period. The design of the car, however – dictates how that power is distributed. And modern technology to add to that, has usurped “size” – redefining how much power can be gotten out of “smaller” engines via the manipulation of air – “forced induction” through a modified air intake contrivance based on the principle that more air in the combustion process greatly creates a higher of output of power, and they are usually called Turbochargers or Superchargers. Slight variation in how they operate, however, they both carry out similar functions nonetheless.

Also, pistons matter a lot during this stage – as you might imagine (or not imagine), pistons are subjected to a lot of heat and pressure during all combustion processes. When the pistons are able to move with more force, the combustion will be more powerful, and the car will in turn move with more force.

Conclusion

When choosing between a 4, 6, 8, 10, or a 12-cylinder engine, it’s all about personal preference. If fuel economy is most important to you, you’ll want an inline 4-cylinder engine. If you want to balance fuel economy and speed, then I strongly urge you to consider a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which can be found in many German sub-compact, compact and mid-size luxury category of vehicles post 2015. To get pure power, a 6-cylinder turbocharged engine may be right for you. Then if you’ve got the means and fuelling (especially now that a sizeable chunk of our income goes into this – God abeg O) isn’t really a problem for you, and you really really long for that your dream powerful ultra-high performance V8 car – then by all measure go for it! There are few pleasures in life; driving the ultimate behemoth is definitely amongst that list…

And as you may know, the best way to determine which car is best for you is to carry out research on it first then take it out for a test drive to see if its performance on an open road will fulfill your heart’s desire but please don’t forget your pocket level O at the end of the day.

Do have yourself a pleasant drive. And as always, thanks for taking out your precious time to read this piece.

You just nailed the fact on the head. I did practically the same thing you did. I came down all the way to Nigeria, Port Harcourt and waited inside the rain till night before I could cast my vote for PO.....never minded any other candidates..... anything Labour Party, I voted for, even with close eyes.....na Labour Party I voted for, Presidential and National Assembly...but some months after, I started regretting my action. Why, cos the Easterners (IPOB) made it a tribal war. Seemed it was planned from Onset that PO will be converted and relegated to a Particular tribe (IPOB candidate) instead of the believe we were made to understand that he's going to be a Nationalist...I voted for him cos he's Young, Charismatic, soft spoken, enlightened, financially conservative etc......if any rerun should happen, me, my friends and family ain't gonna vote for a tribalist or rather IPOB made tribalist....... No way.......no mistake again.........

ecolime:

Votes of Igbos alone right?

If a re-run were to be conducted between Tinubu and Obi today, Obi will win only SE and lose every other region badly despite the hardships in the land.

Hard core obidients have turned everyone to enemies. They made many people especially Yorubas who voted for PO regret that decision.

I'm sure the likes of Falz and Mr Macaroni are regretting their decisions to support the obidient movement with the tribal bashings coming from the Igbos these days.

You curse and hate on a tribe that gave your son over 40% of their votes because Tinubu is from their region?

As for core Notherners- Fulani & Hausa, I am sure you already know their Anti-Igbo sentiments. They would vote for a Ghanian or Kenyan as President over an Igbo man.

Pre-Presidential elections, I no see any Nairalander wey carry Obi matter for head reach me. I was everywhere. It was after the election my eyes opened. For me and many other Non-Igbos, it was about voting who we felt was the best at that point while for you guys, it was more of a tribal contest.

You guys need to learn to build alliances, relationship is key in anything man does. Trust me

Dasuki was a retired military officer already when he was appointed by Jonathan to be his National Security Adviser.....He was a civilian and no longer a military man If he was a military man and also NSA, I believe that no government will ever probe him like Buhari did...... Military officers in Nigeria have immunity against probe or investigation after stealing.....the only institution that can punish a corrupt Nigeria senior military officer is still the military institution which they do as family secret.....done and dusted in secret......

How do you explain Dasuki then?
Politics / Re: Major-Gen Abdullahi Muraina's Family Fights Over His Assets by wallrichy: 2:06pm On Sep 02, 2023
No, No....He was acting as a military expatriate or rather a military attache or better of a military envoy to head Gambia Army......he was already a General of Nigeria Army but was borrowed to head the Gambia Army for a specific duration of time. Nigeria Army have done such in Liberia, Congo and the likes before....Nigeria Army is one of the strongest in West Africa and always perform wonderfully well Internationally. Infact, Nigeria Army Officers are one of the most educated sets of Army in the world.....An average Nigeria Army must have gotten a Bsc in a contemporary pursuits or discipline unlike other countries army that goes directly to Sandhurst Army school or any of the defence schools to be train as an Army but Nigeria Army are really Educated and that's the more reason they are very disciplined....I mean those commissioned officers and not the non commissioned officers.....however, NDA offers Bsc in Numerous discipline presently.

There is a secret pact between Nigeria Politicians and the Nigeria Army. The pacts is that the Army can steal and loot as they want as long as they keep to the barracks and never interrupt our self made practicing Democracy. It was arranged by Obasanjo and overwhelmingly agreed then immediately Obasanjo became president after the death of Abacha. The last Military Head Of State Major General Abdulsalam was a signatory and infact came up with the proposal which was accepted and endorsed by Obasanjo at that point in time and still very active. That's the reason successive Military guys could steal from the defence budgets ever since and go Scott free without any charges. It's a devil's pact that can and will continue inflicting pain on the citizens cos the military care less about safe guarding the country from insurgency, terrorists or banditry cos if they care too much, the defence budgetary allocation will reduce and wouldn't be much money to steal from again cos if there's no internal rift within the country, budgetary allocation for defence would be drastically reduced..........that's just the simple truth.....Nigeria is in SOUP.....no matter who becomes the president except a new constitution is enacted and must be a new constitution and not edited or review constitution.....

Trying hard to comprehend this write up, Am so sorry, your write up doesn't make any sense at all.....next time, please write clearly and be directional about it.....Thanks.

..
Badgers14:

Igbos are more in USA.

Adding Yoruba language to the test in Maryland doesn't validate that Yoruba have bigger population.

The difference is the way the language is spoken.. I am igbo but understand a but of Yoruba.

In igbo, not many people know all the words, say like ten naira etc or to tell time..

Over the years.. igbo have been Englishized grin

Also Yoruba parents are more quick to teach there kids yoruba but Igbos not so much.

There are many igbos in Nigeria that there kids don't speak igbo but that could be true with yoruba also but the percentage of that is higher in Igbo parents /household.

Same outside Nigeria. In London for example.. it is not rare to see an England born kid switch between yoruba and English seamlessly but it is for igbo.. you don't always see that..

That's why I say be proud of yourself, your heritage and people will respect that. I remember growing up.. I was always told I sound igbotic. grin grin but my yoruba friends were never told they sound Yorubatic.. grin

So many igbos do switch to English when communicating and thus the language is slowly dying ...

It's just a natural thing for the Yorubas to triumph and globally recognize in Artistry and their Language as long as it's in excellence accreditation, intelligentsia and absolute educational pursuits. Here in US, Nigerians are well recognized and given kudos but YORUBAS are just excellently pronounced and exceptional....Often, you want to be a Yoruba so as to feel a sense of belonging. That tribe just have a spiritual something in them that makes people of other ethnicity in the US etc.. to love them and want to relate with them....

You aren't totally right my brother. India has a diverse economic growth. There is a progressive development index in terms of gross domestic product but never reflect on the population per se......some areas in India are highly developed while some are highly backward and archaic in modernization.... Another good thing about India is the fact that they are more focused and decidedly desiring economic growth and development for all the Citizen. Also, India doesn't tolerate corruption unlike Nigeria that harbour and dwell in Corruption.....14 to 20 Years from now and with the present pace of India development if sustain....India will overtake most developed countries....

Indian leaders are focused, are you talking based on statistics or news, the poverty index of India is always dropping year on year. What surprises me about Incredible India is that their currency is strong against the dollar, i disappear with you that millions of Indians can eat twice a day, India has a lot of large agricultural regions, especially in the Punjab Region. India is developing fast, in terms of tech, health, biotechnology, you cant compare India with Nigeria, they never let colonialism to catch grips on their national psyche, they never forgot their roots, and that is the pillar behind India's success

You are talking as if there was any reasonable economy in Niger before. Niger has been a bankrupt failed nation long time. Niger has a wider landmass than Nigeria but most of the this land are ungovernable even though large portion also is Sahara desert, I mean it's been ruled by thugs and criminals just like the BH boys tried to do in Northern Nigeria. Niger is a landlock nation.....only advantage is that they are closer to Nigeria and thereby all their importation comes through Lagos Port and transport to Niger via Sokota and other neighbouring states. Niger is dead without Nigeria. Dead in such a way that all the Citizen jumping and clapping for the junta will start dying like packs of stupid flies when all these Sanctions start bitting harder. Buhari had sympathy for his ancestral homeland, reason why he built railway from Southern Nigeria directly to the North and down to Niger...he also built a refinery for a fail country that doesn't have enough crude oil that can go commercial soon...only mineral worthy 9f note is the Uranium that the west and other developed countries are clogging on.

festacman:
This sanction stuff looks like a script written by France and US. But at least it saves ECOWAS face and defuses tension in Niger.

Interesting to see how long the Junta will keep up with this cat and mouse play before settling down for actual governance because as it is currently, the country is standstill. The current situation doesn't help Niger's economy.

It's a good thing that President Tinubu could easily retract his step whenever he did something not in consonant to popular believe. He was hasty in planning to ditch out 8k monthly to some few Nigerians last month but quickly stepped back when the condemnation was so high. This traits shows he's a listening president especially when it's not an economic impaired decision. This character was what Buhari lacked. He never backed out of any decision made even if it would lead him to hell fire or would kill the whole country.

My advise to the President is that he shouldn't be too hasty in making decision and at the same time shouldn't take forever. He should always consult with as many concern people as much as possible without regards to their disposition on the very issue.

We thank God that we have a listening President, a listening Father, ready to dialogue before the actual implementation.

Point of correction. Yorubas didn't settle in Benin republic but have ancestral extension in Benin republic, Togo, Cote D'Ivoire, and some Part of Old Ghana. Yoruba empire extends widely within the West Africa peripheral. Mind you, when I say ancestral extension, I mean a bonafide, legitimate owner, natural born citizens and not a migrant or tourist but native of all those ancestral lands. (OMOLUABI DESCENDANTS OF ODUDUWA)
Yorubas and the Hausas and Fulani are the only tribe in Nigeria that has no limited boundary or confinement to the entirety call Nigeria. Hausas And Fulanis have ancestral extension in Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Senegal, Gambia Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Sudan, Ethiopia etc, The other extension of Yorubas in diaspora, rooted inhabitants, natural citizens in diaspora are made through slave trading in the 15th Century. The Yorubas of Cuban, Brazil, Dominican republic, United States. These are natural born Yorubas, born due to slavery but fortunately were able to retain their African and Yoruba nativity......
Yorubas are really widespread all over the world and that makes me to recollect the clamor of the world literary society to accommodate a study of the Yoruba language and Culture in its entirety in some of the renowned Universities.
Yorubas ain't limited to Africa alone despite the fact that the Cradle of Yorubas is in Ife, Osun State but spread wide and near.
