A senior Indian police officer has reportedly been arrested for allegedly raping his married daughter because she “provoked” him.

The 58-year-old assistant sub inspector from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, is thought to have attacked her in a police station.

The officer who was said to be within three days of his retirement, is also alleged to have beaten up his 35-year-old daughter’s husband.

The woman had been abused by her father as a teenager, The Times of India reported, This ended when she married.

“I thought my father must have changed in so many years, but I was proved wrong,” she is said to have told officers.

Police sources told the newspaper that the officer admitted the rape and it was done because his daughter “provoked” him. Fellow officers expressed shock at the alleged crime.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, reacting to reports over an outrageous fee allegedly being paid for parking the aircraft in London since May 10.
He said, “The Presidency is constrained to decry criticisms, mostly on social media, on the retention in London of the Presidential Aircraft, NAF 001 as mostly informed by lack of understanding of protocol around foreign trips by Heads of State all over the world.

It is important to state that for reasons of protocol, national security, diplomacy and prestige, there is no world leader who travels abroad and is left without plans for immediate return or possible evacuation.

This is a standard operating procedure. We have also read claims about outrageous fees allegedly paid by Nigeria. The published amounts are totally untrue. Aircraft conveying Heads of State all over the world usually enjoy waivers even where payments for parking are differentiated by aircraft categories.

We have been assured that where the waiver is not granted, payment will not exceed £1,000, which is a quarter of the amount being peddled.
All past Heads of this country have had this privilege, and the part that surprises the most is that leaders who in the past travelled with three Nigerian aircraft did not suffer this trenchant criticism.

We appeal to Nigerians to ignore opposition campaign aimed at derailing this administration’s big plans for the country. This is a government that is constructing the 2nd Niger Bridge, the Mambila Power Plant, the East-West and the North-South standard gauge railway lines.

We are a government that has saved this country an annual loss of N2 trillion from fraudulent petroleum subsidy schemes by influential citizens and their children and rid the public service of about 50,000 ghost workers. The Buhari administration certainly deserves a chance.”

A 50-year-old man whose height is that of a healthy five-year-old is currently the toast of villagers and visitors to their tiny Indian village.

As a toddler, there was nothing to distinguish Basori Lal from his peers, and it was only around age five that his family started to notice that he had stopped growing.

As Basori grew older, he encountered some tough times and experienced some bullying in his village, but thankfully, those days are past.

He said: “People used to bully me a lot. They used to call me an alien. But that time is gone now. I am the only one who is being loved by the villagers.”
Now, at the age of 50, Basori lives with his brother Gopi and Gopi’s wife, Satia.

The 50-year-old works in a factory with his relatives, and says he enjoys a glass of whiskey every night before bed.


He has never married and says he doesn’t want to.

Yesterday, the Spanish Government deported 23 Nigerians for committing various offences in the country. Their deportation comes barely five days after 34 Nigerians were sent home from six European countries for committing immigration-related offences.

According to DSP Joseph Alabi, the spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command, the new deportees, comprising 21 males and two females, were brought back in a privilege style aircraft with registration number EC-IZO.

He also said that the deportees were received by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Police. Others also on ground to receive them were officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to him, nine of the deportees, who were deported for drug-related offences, were handed over to the NDLEA. He said that two others, who were deported for criminal offences, were handed over to the police. Joseph Alabi said that the remaining 12 deportees, accused of breaching the country’s immigration rules, were profiled and allowed to go to their respective destinations.

A middle-aged man, whose wife was rescued from his grips, while he was beating her, has said that he was provoked by her ill-treatment of his sick mother.

At the moment, his wife, Joy Abiagan, is nursing an injury in her right eye in a hospital in Ogun State.

The victim, who also complained of body pains, accused her husband of striping her naked in public at their Ifo home, Ogun State.
When contacted, her husband, Francis Abiagan, accused his wife of being disrespectful to his ailing mother.

According to him,

“I have been married for 10 years. My mother had stroke and no one was available to give her special care. My greatest undoing was to bring her home, as my wife would not allow her a moment of rest.
“I have been accommodating all her siblings, but in return for my gesture, they (siblings) have turned my life into a nightmare.

“First, she started by starving her so I decided to hire a house help, who would be cooking and caring for her.

“But the humiliation on my mother came to a height after my wife was seen dragging my mother on the ground, calling her a witch. I have been enduring all other insults, but I could not bear this particular one.

“She told the cook not to come again. The church where we worship organised several meetings for us, urging her to change, but she refused.
“I gave her the treatment she deserves.”
