A witness to the prosecution, Joseph Onoja, told a FCT High Court on Thursday that he had invited Mary Paul, the mother of the two girls who had accused a pastor, Mathew Emmanuel, of violating them after he had reported being charged with the offence.

Police charged Mr Emmauel, 50, who is the pastor and general supervisor of The Choice Bible Church, Mpape, and the owner of the primary school where his victims attended, with six counts bordering on induction and rape in 2012, which were contrary to sections 283 and 285 of the Penal Code.

Ned Nwoko’s emergence as the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District has been annulled by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.
The court ruled on Thursday that the case instituted at the Federal High Court’s Abuja Division that resulted in Mr Nwoko being recognized as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s winner of the election was filed wrongly.
The court of appeal ruled that the case should have been brought before the lower court before the expiry of 14 days from the time the suit was birthed.
It further ruled that the applicant’s failure to file the case at the lower court before the expiry of 14 days meant that the case had become barred from status and that the lower court lacked first jurisdiction to entertain the case.

A Federal High Court in Osun, on Thursday, awarded N2 million damages against the police and two others in favour of one Yekeen Abass over his unlawful arrest and prolonged detention.
The judge, Peter Lifu, delivered the judgment in Mr Abass’s fundamental human rights suit against the state police commissioner and two officers, Adams Adam and Abiodun Olalekan, respectively, as first, second and third respondents.
The applicant had sometimes sued the respondents at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Osogbo after his unlawful detention and violation of human rights in 2017.
