post=133662240: Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested four Chinese nationals and 101 Nigerians in a business apartment in the Gudu area of Abuja over suspected internet fraud.
The commission announced the arrests on Thursday, 9 January 2025, via a tweet on its X handle on Friday.
“The suspects, comprising 67 males (including four Chinese nationals) and 38 females, were allegedly involved in a hotel review job scam targeting victims and hotels in Europe and other parts of the world.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigations,” the tweet partly read.
In its ongoing efforts to rid the nation of internet fraud and other corrupt practices, the EFCC has been making significant strides in recent months.
In October 2024, 10 individuals were convicted and sentenced to various jail terms and fines for internet-related offences, following a crackdown by EFCC operatives.
The suspects had pleaded guilty to charges involving internet fraud, impersonation, and employment fraud.
In December 2024, the EFCC executed its largest single-day crackdown on cryptocurrency and romance scam syndicates, apprehending 792 suspects in Lagos State. According to a report by The Cable, the operation resulted in the arrest of 158 foreigners and 634 others in a single raid on a Lagos property.
Recently, the commission disclosed that 27 of its officers were dismissed in 2024 for misconduct and fraudulent activities.
The EFCC also announced that it is investigating “a trending $400,000 claim made by a yet-to-be-identified supposed staff member of the EFCC against a Sectional Head.”
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, in a statement issued on Monday, 6 January 2024, said the dismissals followed recommendations by the EFCC Staff Disciplinary Committee, which were subsequently ratified by the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
“In its quest to enforce integrity and rid its workforce of fraudulent elements, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission dismissed 27 officers in 2024.
“Their dismissal, following recommendations by the Staff Disciplinary Committee, was ratified by the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede,” Oyewale stated.
Benwallt: A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered all banks operating in Nigeria to blacklist a media executive, Chief Nduka Obaigbena and members of his family over alleged debt to First Bank of Nigeria.
The December 30, 2024 Mareva order also sought to prevent Mr Obaigbena from moving any assets linked to him from the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.
First Bank had filed a debt-recovery suit against Mr Obaigbena and his family members, including Efe Damilola Obaigbena and Olabisi Eka Obaigbena, saying they used their oil servicing firm General Hydrocarbons Limited to assume debt of about $718 million.
At least $225 million had been frozen in bank accounts run by the Obaigbenas as part of the order, which was issued by Justice Deinde Dipeolu in suit FHC/L/CS/2378/2024.
In a separate petition to CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso last year, Mr Obaigbena said he helped save First Bank from imminent collapse in 2021 when he used the resources from OML 120 oil block he secured under President Muhammadu Buhari to elevate the company’s fortunes from declaring N161 billion loss to announcing N151 billion in profits for the year ended December 31, 2021.
“We have been left with no choice but to go to court and arbitration to preserve our fundamental rights and our rights under the agreements in the face of FBN’s attempts to clubber and bully us out of existence,” Mr Obaigbena said in the November 7, 2024, complaint.

Brilliant007: I step out of Lagos searching for a reliable camry 2004. I saw many dealers on Jiji and nairaland. I visited each of them with my reliable mechanic. After checking several cars, we discovered that none of the Nigerian used cars is worth buying . They always have one problem or the other. The most common is bad engines.
Many dealers even promised to give my mechanic 100k behind my back to convince me to buy this melon car.
It's crazy that with 4.5 million, all you can get is a bad car. We return home disappointed.
On getting home. I went back to check my own car that I have been driving for 5 years. My engine, gear, and ac are still in perfect condition and I wonder if those putting their car on sale are those with major problem.
Nigeria dealers have ruined the used car market. Is this a problem with toyota or because the car is a lower year.
I didn't consider other brands. Maybe it would have been a different situation.
At the moment, we are considering buying Tokunbo direct or on installment payment in order to evade this madness in the Nigerian used car Market
