UDOKABESTLUV: Operatives Of The Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected burglar named David Adediji, for breaking into a home and stealing valuables worth over N200,000 in Okorowepo, Idiroko area of the state.
The Suspect, aged 27, allegedly entered the home of a female resident in the community through the window, damaging the iron security bars and struck her on the head with an iron rod.
Confirming the incident to DAILY POST on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect is known for using iron tools to break into homes to steal.
Odutola noted that he carted away with the victim’s Techno Spark phone worth over N150,000, cash of N52,000 and injured her on the back and leg while trying to flee the scene.
The Police spokesperson disclosed that the victim reported the incident at about 7:00 pm on Wednesday, and based on the information, the Divisional Police Officer of the Idiroko Division visited the scene and begun investigation leading to his arrest.
According to Odutola, the suspect on interrogation confessed to committing the crime.
She said, “On January 1, 2025, around 7:00 pm, a community member from Okorowepo, who was a victim of a burglary, reported to the station that on December 31, 2024, at approximately 10:00 pm, a man named David Adediji forcibly entered her home through a window, damaging the iron security bars. He struck her on the head with a long iron rod.
“The Victim further explained that David forcibly took her Android phone, a Techno Spark worth over one hundred fifty thousand Naira, and searched her room, stealing fifty-two thousand Naira in cash from her bag.
“Police detectives from Idiroko visited the scene of the incident. An immediate investigation has been initiated, and items such as an iron rod and a plank have been collected as evidence from the crime scene.
“David Adediji, a 27-Year-Old Male, has been arrested in connection with the crime and has confessed to his involvement.”
Odutola noted that preliminary investigation has commenced for further information and likely prosecution.

So recently, I shared a video featuring a man who passionately urged Ikwerre people to stop denying their Igbo identity. He cited historical evidence, claiming that in 1400 AD, when the Portuguese first visited Ikwerre land, the people there identified themselves as Igbo. He even referenced a book by the Oba of Benin, which states that the Ikwerre and Etche are typical Igbo people.
Beyond historical accounts, he highlighted notable Ikwerre figures like Chibuike Amaechi, Emmanuel Aguma, Okogbule Wonodi, Uche Okwukwu, and now Azuta Mbata—the current Ohaneze Ndigbo president-general—all of whom openly identify as Igbo. According to him, these reasons and more firmly establish Ikwerre as part of the Igbo identity.
However, some comments from Indigenous Ikwerre people on this channel prompted me to dig deeper. I found opposing views that assert Ikwerre is not Igbo.
They argue that Ikwerre people are from Rivers State in the Niger Delta region, with their own distinct culture and traditions. They referenced the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation's declaration during the Chukwudifu Oputa Human Rights Violation Panel in 2001, which stated:
“Ikwerre ethnic nationality is not and has never been a subgroup of any other tribe in Nigeria, including Ndi-Igbo…”
They also cited the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended in 2010), which recognises Ikwerre as a distinct ethnic group. Many believe attempts by some Igbo expansionists to incorporate Ikwerre into the Igbo fold undermine their unique identity.
With all this said, I believe we should respect both perspectives. Let Ikwerre people who identify as Igbo be proudly Igbo, and those who don't should remain true to their choice. After all, “live and let live” brings peace.

A private security guard left his security post and tried to engage in unlawful activities with a six-year-old girl at night inside a university building.
Fortunately, for the timely intervention of another female, the suspect was apprehended.
On January 15, 2025, at about 2210PM, Sherifat Bakare, a food vendor residing on Araromi Ajebo Road via FMC Abeokuta, reported to the police station that while she was away at the market, she received a call from her younger brother, one Seyi Bakare, whom she had left in charge of her shop on the FUNAAB campus along with her daughter.
Seyi informed her that while searching for the six-year-old, the girl ran into the shop, visibly frightened. When he asked her what had happened, she revealed that one Damilola Otegba, a 44-year-old private security guard assigned to a building on campus, had taken her upstairs to his workplace.
He allegedly undressed by exposing himself and forced his manhood into her to perform inappropriate acts, then took her to a corner and laid behind her.
The victim emphasized that despite her resistance to his advances, an unknown female student at FUNAAB, who was unaware of the danger, entered the area and questioned the man about his actions with the girl. This led to the chief security officer of FUNAAB being informed.
The victim was subsequently taken to the school clinic for medical evaluation. Doctors have been contacted, and Funaab Harmony Divisional Police Officer is awaiting their findings.
The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody.
He will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation following the preliminary inquiry conducted by the crime section of FUNAAB Harmony Divisional headquarters.
