Jobs/VacanciesLatest Top 5 Worst Paying Jobs In Nigeria This 2017 by web2safe(op): 3:38pm On Jun 02, 2017
1.Teaching job: This can be a hell of a job, especially if you are teaching in a private school. You can earn as low as N15,000 monthly in this job, and that is way below the minimum wage.
2.Marketing job: If you live in Nigeria you must have walked past an advert written on the wall that goes thus; Earn N4,000 daily. Seems nice, well the truth in when you contact this organisations, you are going to be asked to market a particular product and get your percentage. Reality, you might end up earning N4,000 in two weeks.
3.Security Guard: This job is highly risky, yet they end up with peanuts at the end of the month. Though most companies spend a lot on security, the guards themselves don’t get paid well, the security company does.
4.Lebanese, Chinese and Indian companies Jobs : If you have once hustled in the street then you might know what I mean. This jobs are terrible, and can be rightfully tagged a working corpse job.
5.Factory Jobs: This job has a lot of risk involved yet the workers get a really little pay. Though it is argued that most factory workers are usually secondary school dropouts, the fact remains that they work hard and earn little.....

Nairaland GeneralRecord Breaker: Five-year-old Becomes Youngest Ever At National Spelling Bee by web2safe(op): 2:43pm On Jun 02, 2017
A five-year-old Oklahoma girl has made history by becoming the youngest person ever to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Edith Fuller correctly spelled "jnana" to beat more than 50 contestants in the Scripps Green Country Regional Spelling Bee in Tulsa.

She also cracked the words Panglossian, Baedeker, nisei and Croesus.

The young spelling master will head to Washington in May to compete with other children across the country.

Can you spell better than a five-year-old?

Here are the words Edith aced on her way to glory:

Jnana is a Sanskrit word for "knowledge" in Indian philosophy and religion.

Panglossian describes someone who is excessively optimistic, regardless of circumstances.

Baedeker is a guidebook, originating from the series of travel guidebooks by German publisher Karl Baedeker.

Nisei is an American or Canadian whose parents were immigrants from Japan.

Croesus is a very wealthy person. Croesus was the last king of Lydia (c560 - 546 BC) famed for his wealth.

Sarsaparilla is a tropical American climbing plant, or a sweet drink flavoured with the root of this plant.

The National Spelling Bee is open to contestants who have not finished the eighth grade. There is no minimum age to compete.

"I feel thankful," she said after winning the regional competition on Saturday.

Edith, who is home-schooled, faced off against competitors from primary and middle schools throughout northeast Oklahoma.

"It's fun to share her with everyone," said Annie Fuller, her mother.

"I knew she'd be a novelty, so I'm proud she held her own."

Education5 Things That Can Easily Make You Poor In Nigeria As A Youth – 2017 Research by web2safe(op): 2:10pm On May 30, 2017
1.Spending too much time in school: Am not saying education is bad, I never can. But let us be realistic, too much of a good thing, would make it just bad. Some people are spending too much time and money in school, and I feel they could do better spending that time and money elsewhere. Imagine you spend 4 years + x in undergraduate, 2 years doing your masters,4 years studying PhD and some go to the extreme by taking another 4 years studying professional courses. I don’t think this is a bright idea, all these time, someone is busy building an empire to employ you, and they are going to end up your boss.
2.Alcohol and promiscuity: Alcohol and promiscuity go hand in hand. If you are a youth in Nigeria, and all you do is indulge in this two acts, then you might just end up a poor man/woman.
3.Betting: This has now become so rampant, and it is really killing a lot of Nigerian youths financially today. I wonder how you are going to save money for that awesome business idea you have when you are busy gambling. The truth is this betting/gambling platforms are dubious. They claim you can get rich quick on it, but in truth, you win a little then lose endlessly. Yes, it is true that some win big, but check the ratio of wins to loses and you will agree that betting/gambling is a bad idea.
4.Wasting you time on unproductive activities: Many Nigerian youths today are social media addicts and gossip kings. They spend so much time on the net, engaging in activities that won’t profit their lives. Time na money. The time you are squandering is sufficient to make an empire
5.Being comfortable as an employee: I can understand the state of the economy and all, it is necessary one works under an establishment to make some cash. But in truth, you have to also plan an exit strategy. Believe me, being your own boss is key to financial freedom.
PoliticsBreaking News Buhari’s Wife Joins President In London by web2safe(op):
The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday left Nigeria for London, United Kingdom, to join her husband who has been on medical vacation since May 7.

According to a statement by her spokesperson, Bisi Olumide-Ajayi, the President’s wife thanked Nigerians who have been praying for her husband.

The statement read, “The wife of the President, Her Excellency, Mrs. Aisha Buhari today (Tuesday) left for the United Kingdom.

“Her Excellency will spend some time with her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, who is presently on medical vacation.

“She expressed her appreciation to the millions of Nigerians who have been praying for his quick and safe return.”

Mrs. Buhari’s journey came three weeks after her husband embarked on his latest medical vacation.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had announced shortly before President Muhammadu Buhari left the country that the duration of his stay in London would be determined by his doctors.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari proceeds to London tonight for follow-up medical consultation with his doctors.

“He had planned to leave Sunday afternoon, but decided to tarry a bit, due to the arrival of 82 Chibok girls who arrived Abuja earlier in the day.

“The President wishes to assure all Nigerians that there is no cause for worry. He is very grateful for the prayers and good wishes of the people, and hopes they would continue to pray for the peace and unity of the nation.

“The length of the President’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership of the Vice President.

“President Buhari has transmitted letters about the trip to the Senate and the House of Representatives, in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.”

Jobs/Vacancies7 Ways To Impress Your Interviewers And Get The Job by web2safe(op): 1:35pm On May 30, 2017
How to show you're the best candidate for the job.

The satirical website, The Onion, recently poked fun at a stereotypical job seeker who blew away his interviewers with his knowledge of the company’s “About Us” page. The fictitious human resources manager confessed to being “pretty floored” by the candidate’s “ability to name the exact year the firm was founded and where its original headquarters were located.” The candidate even recited back the company’s own boilerplate self-description as “a pioneer in the digital marketing industry” and knew that the company helps its clients to “maximize opportunities in a changing media landscape.” Blah, blah, blah.

In reality, unfortunate stories abound about people who failed to get a position, because they clearly hadn’t bothered to do even the minimal research of looking at perspective employers’ websites. But simply parroting back the information you find won’t be enough to impress most interviewers. Here are seven things that will:

1. Be purposeful. Everything you say should be calculated to demonstrate (rather than claim) your skill and subject matter expertise, work style, prior accomplishments and overall value. When you can relate that to your knowledge of an employer’s situation and challenges, so much the better! Take a moment to think about the impression your words will make and what conclusions about you will be drawn from them.

2. Speak English, not jargon. Talk about yourself without resorting to overused stock phrases and banalities. If you say, “I’m a results-oriented team player, highly motivated for success,” even if this description is true, you do nothing to distinguish yourself from everyone else who is using job-hunting jargon. Say what you mean by all this and show how it is true.

3. Don’t just regurgitate words. Process them! Of course, like The Onion’s job seeker, you should be familiar with a company’s “About us” page, but that is only the beginning of your research. Your job is to integrate the research that you do with the knowledge that you have about the role you seek and value you offer. Use language that demonstrates your understanding of the things the company says about itself rather than parroting the exact words back.

4. Tell relevant stories. Be prepared for questions that will probe for an understanding of your work style, personality and ethics. Your answers will be analyzed carefully to predict how you will act in the employer’s environment. Prepare short vignettes that demonstrate how you have handled stressful situations, intellectual challenges and interpersonal conflict. Think about how others will see the role that you’ve played, leadership you’ve contributed or value you’ve added to your group. What kind of person do your stories portray?

5. Be enthusiastic, and smile. Chances are, you don’t feel your best when you are around Debbie Downers, people who don’t seem comfortable in their own skin or people who are trying too hard to sell you something. Your interviewers probably feel the same way.

If you show nervousness or a lack of self-confidence, or if you’re overly deferential, you do yourself no favors. While maintaining proper boundaries, demonstrate a sense of personal ease, optimism and engagement. Showing that you are the kind of person who relishes dealing with the role and responsibilities about which you’re speaking and talking with a smile on your face can go along way toward convincing people you are a good fit.

6. Ask thoughtful questions. The questions you ask say a great deal about you. They are a way for you to demonstrate that you’ve thought about the role you seek to fill. Instead of asking, “Will I have to do X?” instead ask, “Will I have the opportunity to do X?” or “Do you do X this way or that way?”

7. Stifle yourself. Far too often, job hunters kill their own candidacies by failing to self-censor. No matter how much you want to vent against your old boss, complain about how so-and-so treated you or how life is unfair, this is not the time or place.

No matter how curious you are about the selection process, how much the job will pay or how much vacation time you will have, this is not the time to ask. Your interviewer’s job is to create a respectful, friendly environment in which you will feel comfortable “opening up.” Don’t confuse this with friendship. You aren’t friends, and you aren’t even on the same team – yet!

Remember: Absolutely nothing you say in an interview is confidential, and everything you say shows more about you than your words alone.

Happy hunting!

SportsBreaking News Barcelona Appoint Valverde To Replace Luis Enrique by web2safe(op): 7:27pm On May 29, 2017
Barcelona have confirmed that Ernesto Valverde will be their new coach for the 2017-18 season.

The 53-year-old stepped down after four seasons in a second spell at Athletic Club last week and was widely expected to take over from Luis Enrique this summer.

Barca had promised an announcement after the Copa del Rey final and a statement on Monday confirmed Valverde as the new coach on atwo-year deal.

"I have spoken personally with Ernesto Valverde and I told him of our decision," said club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

"He said he is very excited and very happy, that it's a great challenge to come in as head coach of Barca.

"There is time to talk about why we chose him. We know he has ability, his knowledge and his experience.

"He loves youth football and he has a special style, similar to what we do at Barca. He has philosophy similar to Barca's and trains the way we like to train."

Luis Enrique's three-year tenure yielded nine trophies, including a third successive Copa as Barca beat Alaves 3-1 at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday night.

The Asturian announced at the beginning of May that he would not be renewing his contract and Barca began to look at a number of candidates.

Valverde, twice considered in the past, topped a list that also included Jorge Sampaoli, Ronald Koeman and Luis Enrique's assistant, Juan Carlos Unzue.

Born in Extremadura, Valverde spent two years at Barca as a player under Johan Cruyff between 1988 and 1990. As a coach, he won the Spanish Supercopa at Athletic - by beating Barca in 2015 - as well as three Greek titles and two cups with Olympiacos, while he also led Espanyol to a UEFA Cup final in 2007.

Nicknamed El Txingurri (which means bee in Basque) in his playing days, Valverde has also coached Valencia and Villarreal.

He will be looking to turn Barcelona into the team to beat in La Liga again, with the Catalans having had to settle for second behind arch-rivals Real Madrid this season.

They also missed out on Champions League glory as Juventus proved to be too strong in the quarter-finals, although they did win the Copa del Rey for a third straight year.
