Update from SIGGY .ng Read Previous Thread: https://www.nairaland.com/7044001/female-corps-member-causes-stir The Oyo state chapter of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has distanced itself from a viral video making the rounds on social media showing a female corps member wearing a long white skirt instead of the standard white shorts at the Iseyin orientation camp, Siggy reports. Recall that yesterday Siggy posted photos and videos of the female corps member wearing white and khaki skirts at one of the NYSC orientation camps. She was also seen in one of the clips engaging in a heated argument with other members of the scheme while preaching her religious beliefs. It was reported that the video was taken at the Iseyin orientation camp, Oyo state. However, the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations Unit, NYSC, Oyo State, Mrs. Olatoye Christy, in a statement, said that no such corps member was present at the orientation camp, adding that every corps member is abiding with the rules of the scheme. She advised the public to disregard the video as it never happened at the Iseyin permanent orientation camp. WATCH VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqKVBDnWEkw Source: SIGGY

Update from SIGGY .ng Social media has been blown up with an image of what seems to be a student of a high school allegedly doing hard drugs in public during school hours, Siggy reports. The lad who wore a white shirt, trouser and tie was seen injecting himself with an unidentified drug while sitting on a bus stop bench. The photo was reportedly captured in South Africa and it has raised serious questions about what could have gone wrong. He seemed to be sitting among a bunch of homeless people. A Twitter user, @Michaelmike211 shared the image with the caption; ”How did we get here?” South Africans took to the comment section to pen opinions on what could be responsible for such action. Update from SIGGY .ng An Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) student has sparked a debate on social media after he defended the activities of internet fraudsters popularly called ''yahoo boys'' during a seminar presentation at the school, Siggy reports. A video trending on the social space shows the yet-to-be-identified student explaining that the flamboyant lifestyles of internet fraudsters have helped save the country from going into a recession. The student used southwestern states in Nigeria as a case study and stated that the fraudsters' use of costly cars boosted the economy and raised Nigeria's per capita income. In his words: "In a country like Nigeria, the standard living of yahoo yahoo boys has helped save the country from recession. "Because, according to findings, in most southwest cities, yahoo yahoo boys actually dominate the best estate, they use the most expensive cars, they buy luxuries and from the top-notch boutiques because they have a lot of money to share about. The video has sparked debate on social media, with some users supporting his sentiments while others vehemently condemning him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq5GKdgxKAc Source: SIGGY

Update from SIGGY. ng Some aggrieved students of Southwestern University, Okun-Owa in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, have decried their living conditions in the schools as the institution management reportedly barred students from cooking in their hostels, Siggy reports. The students who spoke on anonymity reported that the situation has forced them into buying tasteless food of poor quality on campus at exorbitant prices when they could have easily prepared the meals at their convenience. They also complained about not having access to cash on campus as there is no Automated Teller Machine on the school premises. According to the student, anyone who dares to complain about the poor living conditions in the hostels faces the risk of getting suspended or slammed with an extra year by the university authorities. “The sad part about this whole suffering is that you dare not complain because the moment you voice out your frustration, the school will either suspend or punish you with an extra year. “This is supposed to be a private university where people come to learn and live good lives but at Southwestern University, the living conditions of students are worse than those of persons in correctional centres (prisons),” the undergraduate, who cannot be named for safety reasons, said. Several videos and photographs showing the living conditions of students of the university which were seen by SaharaReporters depict that lack of regular water supply is a big issue frustrating undergraduates and equally affecting their daily activities. Swarming around a big plastic tank and several buckets and containers lined up and stretching tens of metres to get water each time supply arrives, the large crowd of students scrambling for the precious liquid to attend to basic needs speaks volumes of the predicament of undergraduates residing in hostels at Southwestern University. “If you see the way students rush out to get water whenever the school miraculously provides such, you will think we are animals in a jungle. “We are being treated in a demeaning manner despite paying school fees in dollars. In fact, the tuition increases if the exchange rate of dollars also goes higher. That is the terrible situation we are enduring at Southwestern University,” another student reported. Recall that on Monday, Siggy had exclusively reported how the private university based in Ogun State suspended 17 students for demanding clean water and stable electricity supply in their hostels. The management of the private university handed a six-week suspension to each of the 400 level students for having the guts to voice out their frustration despite warnings from the authorities. Chancellor of the institution, Babatunde Odufuwa, who doubles as chairman of the Governing Council of Lagos City Polytechnic and Chief Executive Officer of Lagos City Computer College, had earlier threatened to suspend any student who spoke against the school or demanded certain rights. The spokesperson for the university, Mr Aderoju, when contacted with the latest findings by our correspondent on Monday did not respond to several calls put across to him. It was also learned that the school only accepts tuition fees in foreign currencies (United States dollars). Source: SIGGY
