Update from SIGGY .ng Read Previous Thread : https://www.nairaland.com/6781509/adeshina-aishat-oau-final-year The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students Union President, Vice-president and eight others have been queried for their involvement in a protest over the death of a fellow student, Siggy reports. Recall that the Siggy reported on the 1st of october, 2021 that a massive protest rocked Obafemi Awolowo University on Friday as Students protested against the management of the institution over the death of a final year student, Adeshina Aishat. The university gave a 48-hour ultimatum for them to respond to the query that questioned the students for pelting university officers and the public relations officer of the university with sachets of water. It was learnt that some of the affected students are members of the #RevolutionNow movement, and this could have put them in the spotlight. Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife had staged a peaceful protest in October over the death of a final year student of Foreign Languages department, Aisha Adesina. The late Adesina was said to have died at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife, where she was referred to by the university's health centre. The students accused the university's health centre of poor management of Miss Adesina's case, and for allegedly delaying in its response when the deceased presented herself to the centre. Each of the affected students were said to have received their separate query letters from their departments as the 2021/2022 session commenced on January 9, 2022, asking them to explain why disciplinary actions should not be taken against them for leading the protest. According to FIJ, one of the queried students denied all seven allegations in his query. "I was not even on campus on the first day of the protest," the student, who asked not to be named, said. "I joined the protest the second day, but all the allegations filed against me are false. I am still consulting on how best to respond to the allegations," the student said. Another student, who was also queried, said it was a usual practice, noting that the letter was neither dated nor the time of collection appended with his signature. "The query is no big deal to me," he noted. "This is not the first time I am receiving their queries. As far as I am concerned, the query is unofficial because nothing documented that I received it. "I was only called by my colleague to go pick up a letter from my faculty. The letter was neither dated nor the time of collection appended with my signature. So, how am I supposed to count the 48-hour ultimatum?" He said he did not play "any significant role in the protest" to justify an investigation by the university. He also said the school's panel only submitted names of prominent student activists. However, OAU's public relations officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, said, "The students were the arrowheads of the protest." "The query is just for them to explain some issues raised. As matriculated students of the university, they are adjudged to have known their matriculation oaths. If they have not broken any oaths, there will be no problem," he said. "But, if, through omission, negligence or any intentional act, the students broke the oaths in the course of their protests, there could be sanctions. "I will advise them to humbly address the highlighted issues in due time for amicable resolution," he noted. https://campusnews.medium.com/oau-queries-student-activists-who-protested-colleagues-death-due-to-negligence-76110b5f58a0

Update from SIGGY .ng As the new semester kicks in, the students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) might have to prepare themselves for getting to class on foot following the decision of the school management to discharge the shuttle bus drivers over the increment of their fares to 50 Naira, Siggy reports. The University of Benin management has however made three coaster buses available for transport within the school premises following the action taken by the shuttle bus drivers to increase their fares to 50naira. The school management discharged the bus drivers who have been maintaining a fare of N30 for the past couple of years. The new buses have been put in place to convey over 70,000 students within the school premises with a lower fare. Update from SIGGY .ng Emmanuel Bwire, a third-year student of Kenyatta University, Kenya, has been arrested for buying food worth Ksh189,000 (N684,387) from a hotel's restaurant using fake alert, Siggy reports. The 24-year-old committed the offence on diverse dates between December 13 and 16, 2021, at Hill Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. Bwire who ordered for the food in bits, first presented the fake Mpesa transaction code to the hotel waiter and security officer who delivered the drinks and food. A police report read; “He ordered drinks worth Ksh28100 and a delivery fee of Ksh2000. He then requested the waiter to furnish him with the bill so that he can pay through Mpesa. The hotel did not see the message since their Mpesa mobile phone had issues." The following day, the student ordered drinks and food worth Ksh47,000 which he claimed he paid through Mpesa and also gave out the Mpesa transaction code. On the third day, Bwire ordered drinks, food and transport worth Ksh51,600 and gave the Mpesa transaction code to the hotel delivery guy but this time around, the hotel messenger asked the accused to allow him to take a photo of the Mpesa message which he did. After leaving the accused person’s house, a lady approached the waiter and the hotel security officer and warned them against the gentleman. Upon arriving the hotel and running a check, the waiter was shocked to find out that the messages were fake and that there was no money paid to the hotel by the accused person via Mpesa since December 13. He alerted the hotel's accountant and the suspect was arrested after he called the next day December 16, to order food and drinks amounting to Ksh61,000. The hotel messenger was accompanied by a police officer to the student’s residence, and he arrested after presenting another fake transaction message. Bwire however pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni and asked for leniency, claiming that he was held by police for more than 24 hours against his constitutional rights. He was later released on a cash bail of Ksh50,000 (N181,600). https://campusnews.medium.com/student-arrested-for-buying-food-worth-over-n600-000-with-fake-alert-12c4ab3ee22d

Update from SIGGY .ng Read Previous Thread : https://www.nairaland.com/6899249/army-arrests-female-soldier-accepting There has been a lot of comments following the action of the army detaining female soldier identified as Sofiat for accepting a marriage proposal from a male corper at the kwara state orientation camp, Siggy reports. Nigerians have then dug up photos of male soldiers who proposed while in uniform and didn’t face any consequences from the Nigerian Army. Among the reasons the army gave for her detention was that she indulged in romance while in uniform. Nigerians were angered by this and have now started sharing photos of male soldiers who indulged in romance while in uniform and were not penalized as the female soldier is being penalized. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEN4cxcgE78 https://campusnews.medium.com/see-photos-of-nigerian-soldiers-who-proposed-and-werent-detained-photos-6bd9ef11bcdf
