A pregnant housewife , Halima, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing her husband, Ibrahim Ismail , at their house in Nasarawo Demsa community, in the Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State .

Halima was said to be pregnant with their fourth child when the couple had a disagreement on Thursday which culminated in the death of the businessman.

A neighbour of the couple, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the disagreement bordered on foodstuffs bought by Ibrahim .

He said, “Around 5 .30am on Thursday , I heard my wife shouting and screaming . I asked her what happened and she said the wife of our next-door neighbour had killed him .

“ When I got to the man’s house , I saw him in a pool of blood. There were a lot of sympathisers in his room , mostly women. When I tried to talk to him , he could not answer back and appeared lifeless. The wife had also been apprehended.

“ When I enquired what happened , I was told that Ibrahim went to buy foodstuffs in the market so that she could cook for the family. However , when he returned from the market, he did not meet her at home .

“ He was troubled and looked for her everywhere . When he couldn’t find her , he left the foodstuffs and went out . When he returned to the house some minutes later , he discovered that she had returned home .

“ He asked her where she went and why she left the foodstuffs he bought for her , but that started an argument between them .

“ During the quarrel, the man took a wood and hit her with it. The woman went to pick a knife she was using to cut onions and stabbed him . He fell and collapsed. ”

The neighbour said policemen from the Numan division , who had been alerted by some other residents , later arrived at the scene to arrest the suspect .

He explained that the victim was taken to a general hospital where he was confirmed dead by a doctor.
The witness explained that the body was taken to the victim’s family’ s house where he was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

The source noted that two of the couple’s children were not living with them, adding that they usually quarrelled.

The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Othman Abubakar, said he could not reach the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.

“ I can only confirm the story tomorrow ( Monday ). I have been trying to reach the DPO, but he is not available, ” he said.

Two suspected burglars, Ifendi Eke and Nwokocha Ndukwe , who were arrested by police operatives attached to the Abiriba Division in Abia State, have pleaded for mercy , claiming that they were pushed into robbery by hunger .

A police source told Southern City News that the suspects, said to be indigenes of Abiriba , were nabbed following a tip -off after some cases of burglary and stealing in the community.

The source added that in the course of police investigation, a middleman , identified as Arua Agbai , who was aiding the suspects in selling their loots, was also arrested.

Items recovered from the suspects included some bags, electronic gadgets and empty cartons of plasma television carted away from the house of one Agbara Ashiegbu , a businessman based in Cameroon .

Confessing to the crime , Ndukwe said it was hunger and the devil that led them into the crimes , while Agbai said he was not aware that the plasma television sold to him by the suspects was stolen .

He said, “I don ’t know anything about these stolen items . It was one of the suspects, now at large, that brought the television to me to buy ; it was when I opened the carton that I saw the receipts of the original owner before I sold it to another person .”

Meanwhile, another suspected burglar , Frank Egure , has also been arrested by police operatives following a distress call from one Azubuike , who reported that his house was under siege by suspected hoodlums .

Solomon, who was injured by a hit and run driver and left to die on the street of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, has been discharged from the hospital.

The boy, believed to be one of the children abandoned by their families on allegation of witchcraft was rescued by members of PACT and Reach Out Life International Foundation (Rolif) and PACT Akwa Ibom Coalition and has been receiving treatment at Uniuyo teaching hospital. Sharing an update, Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven said he will be enrolled in school once he is fully recovered.

"Solomon has been discharged from the hospital and he is already enjoying his new life with Hope and the rest of our 48 children at DINNødhjælp/ACAEDF children center "Land of Hope"

I cannot stop smiling when I look at these pictures because it's only 2 weeks ago we found Solomon, almost dead lying on the street, and look at him now !!! Thanks so much to each and everyone of you involved in his rescue and recovery. This is what humanity is all about !!

Residents of Oke - Ako in Ekiti State were thrown into mourning on Saturday as some gunmen attacked and killed a prince of the town, Dare Ogunbiyi , in a hotel , Olainukan Hotel .

The hotel , located on Irele- Ekiti Road , Oke -Ako was owned by the deceased . He was a son of the town’ s late king, Oba Omotayo Ogunbiyi.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Dayo, said the gunmen caught the victim unawares while he was discussing with one of the hotel ’s workers .

“ The two men wore masks . When he (Ogunbiyi) saw the gunmen , he tried to run away but the assailants pursued him and shot him dead. The assailants later escaped into the bush .”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti, Alberto Adeyemi, said he had been informed of the attack but was awaiting briefing from the divisional police officer.

Meanwhile, there was pandemonium at Orisunmibare Market area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Saturday when a woman whose identity has yet to be confirmed , was shot and killed during a clash among hoodlums .

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the deceased was hit by a stray bullet as the hoodlums exchanged gunfire .

The incident caused traders , buyers and residents in the area to run away from the scene to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

An eyewitness, Saheed Mohammed, said that the incident happened at about 9 :50 am .

He said some policemen from Dugbe Police Station later came to remove the corpse of the woman .

Efforts to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs . Folashade Odoro , were unsuccessful as she did not reply to calls made to her telephone line or reply to the text message sent to her .

Three people have been crushed to death in a crash that involved a truck and a motorcycle.
The accident occurred at Alagbon , along Owode-Idiroko axis in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps , Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the victims were travelling on the motorcycle when the truck coming from the opposite direction crushed them.

The victims were two males and one female.
Akinbiyi said, “The accident occurred this morning at Alagbon along Owode-Idiroko road . They were travelling on a motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle lost control and this caused the motorcycle to face the oncoming truck which eventually crushed them .”

He said their remains had been deposited at the state General Hospital at Ota .

Meanwhile, eight suspected vandals have been arrested in Gbalefu , Ajebo area of the state by men of the state police command .

The suspects, police sources said, specialised in vandalising telecommunication masts and stealing their components .

The suspects are Tunde Adebayo, Adewole Saheed , Chinedu Eze, Isaac Dele, Henpery Evans , Emmanuel Otulo , Olaniyan Olayinka, and Jimoh Idowu.

The state Police Public Relations Officer , Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were arrested following information received by the Divisional Police Officer at Owode -Egba, Sheu Alao.

The suspects who were said to have vandalised the mast and removed valuable parts from it were arrested at the crime scene.

Oyeyemi said, “Upon the information , the DPO led his men to the scene where the suspects were rounded up. Recovered from them were a Ford bus with number plate EPE 613DJ, tools used in vandalising the mast , the sum of N 98,600 , mobile phones , ATM and identity cards .”

Following the suspects’ arrest , the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered their immediate transfer to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad headquarters in Magbon , Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution .

Actor , Adeniyi Johnson , speaks with TOFARATI IGE about his career , love life and other issues.
How did entertainment start for you ?

It started for me about two decades ago when I started acting in church. My first major acting experience was when I was in secondary school and as students , we had to stage a play. But the person that was to play the lead role kept disappointing them as he didn’ t bother to attend rehearsals . The teacher in charge of the drama group then said she needed someone else to play the role . A classmate of mine told her that I could do it because I was very funny and troublesome in school . That was how I was invited to take part in the play and I was able to do it well . After that episode , I became the happening guy in school and everybody wanted to associate with me . After I graduated , a friend informed me that some actors were shooting a movie close to where I was residing. I went there and took part in the audition. One of the producers , Ray Alechenu , took an interest in me and he told me to come for training . From there , I started acting in TV series and other productions .

What was the first movie you acted in?

The first Yoruba movie I acted in was Mo ta ka osi danu, and it was shot 11 years ago. It was produced by Lekan Ayinde and he was the one that brought me into the Yoruba movie industry . However , my breakthrough started when I delved into soap operas like Super Story and Family Ties, among others.

Entertainers are known to lead ostentatious lives,
how do you avoid being caught in that web?

It ’s not like acting isn’t a well -paid job . If it wasn’t , we wouldn ’t be here because fame is not enough . The problem is that the expectation of people from actors is very high. But I will never live a fake life to impress anybody, and people who know me can testify to that . Meanwhile, if piracy can be curbed , actors would also fly private jets .

The Police in Delta have arrested a commercial sex worker who allegedly stabbed her client to death during an argument at Destar Hotel , Asaba , Delta, on July 18.

The Spokesman of the Police Command in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said on Friday in Asaba that the police responded to a distress call from the hotel after the incident.

“ The suspect is currently in police custody .
“ A day after the incident, the “ C Division’’ in Asaba carried out preliminary investigation on the case and transferred it to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department .

“ As I speak to you, homicide detectives have commenced full investigation into the case with a view to unravelling what actually transpired between the suspect and the victim to establish culpability. ”

The hotel has now been deserted, and attempt to speak with its manager was unsuccessful as he was said to have travelled out of Asaba .

However, a bar attendant , who preferred anonymity, said the incident had thrown “the stakeholders” into a mourning mood .

“ The sad incident started like a normal argument inside the hotel room , and before we realised it , a man was down with a fatal stab.

“ The incident happened at about 10.45 p .m ., so nobody could actually say what led to the fracas .

One of the few sex workers in the hotel who also spoke anonymously, described the incident as horrible and unfortunate, saying it had brought “our business to a standstill’’ .

“ However, I will like to use this opportunity to advise our clients to always respect themselves when they come here.

“ Many of the clients do invite trouble to themselves. I rest my case,” she said.

The victim was a married man with four children.
