Rooney's desperation to make an impact is proving counter-productive. United desperately need a focal point for their attack, and rooney would best be served concentrating on his striking duties. Newcastle's centre-back pairing of steven taylor and fabricio coloccini are hardly blessed with great pace, but rooney's reluctance to play off the last man ensured that they were rarely tested.

Rooney had more touches in the centre circle than in newcastle's box, and also shows his tendency to drift into wide positions and abandon his role as United's central striker. Rooney's performances so far this season have simply been down to a lack of positional focus!......sky sports!

The buyout clauses nowadays are ridiculous and the fees some players command is outrageous....... Makes it possible that we will keep seeing bigger clubs take a massive hit money wise when they have paid top dollars for players who now end up not fitting in or living up to expectations i.e. the 15m loss on Di Maria.
