Yeah. In my single days, and having spend a lot of time in Nigeria pre-pandemic, I met a lot of amazing Nigerian women. As we got closer, I heard stories of sexual violence - rape, etc. If I had to estimate 90% of the woman I met had a similar story. The first few times I heard it, I doubted it, but the more I heard, Occam's razor set in. I was shocked at the stories. The stories are heart breaking. Having said that, we all have mother's, maybe sisters, maybe daughters and women we cherish. Let's draw the line at sexual harassment and sexual violence. We should be able to agree on that.

Here is the article that describes the new study. One of the key findings is that there was a 14% increase in heart attacks during the first year of the pandemic. Yeah, the first vaccine came out after the first year. So, the increase was due to people catching Covid. Now that 14% happened during the lockdown period, imagine what it would have looked like the 2nd year without no lockdown and no vaccine.

Agreed to a degree. I think there is a danger in aligning with China morally, and because of the ease of doing business and travelling there, that is more apt to happen. Was speaking to a friend who is a player in the Naija Finance world. Was saying something about China, and he said, nah, China isn't that bad. So, this one page is what the whole outrage is about? One page out of one book out of one library (or a few libraries) and boom republicans want to vet and ban books in all school libraries in the United States.

It seems republicans main political strategy is "outrage". They take a few isolated cases of errors or misjudgement and the blow it out of proportion and then elevate it to a democrat/leftist policy or agenda, then outrage.

So because this page of this book is in this school library, democrats/leftist are grooming children or teens for sex? In that case we were over groomed for sex, because in my own school library in the 80's, there was james hardly chase, Mills and boom, and lots of romantic novels in my school library. In fact I learnt to be a fast reader on these novels, because when you borrow them, you have less than 3 days to return them, as the next person is waiting.

In this era of Internet and smartphones, republicans think banning books (like in medieval europe) would stop kids from accessing information.
It not that I oppose removing books that parents are uncomfortable with from school libraries, but making it a national or state policy is just stupid. These decisions should be taken at PTA levels. Parents cannot outsource the moral upbringing of their children to schools and teachers, they need to be actively involved.

Although I find the book disgusting and I won't be reading such, let alone allow kids to read it, but the author of the book also said that it was never meant for the books to be in school libraries, I wonder how it got there.

He was surprised when the American Library Association gave “Lawn Boy” an award in 2019 for its appeal to teens. Evison believes that some librarians who chose the novel did so because of the award — and he says that, if any recommended it to lower- or middle-schoolers, they probably confused it with the children’s book “Lawn Boy,” by Gary Paulsen.

I am suprised the book was given an award as well by the American Library Association.
