edego2up:So Obaseki who is approaching 70 with his disastrous reign in Edo State is the saintly and unrecycled youth to help you take your destiny into your hands? This obsession with youthful take over of power betrays an emotion-based perception to ideals of governance, else you would have known that all those who derailed this country from its original path to greatness were all youths. In case you are genuinely ignorant of this fact, here are the details below: 1. The Aguiyi Ironsi who first tampered with the genuinely we-the-people constitution which guaranteed the equity, fairness, social justice and citizenship dignity we all crave for today, took power through the back door at the youthful age of 42. 2. The Gowon who overthrew him and went on to supervise the avoidable civil war which cost over 3 million innocent civilian lives amidst monumental misrule was of the youthful age of 31 when he assumed office. 3. Murtala Mohammed who made the policy that laid the foundation for the corruption of the civil service and by logical extension every aspect of national life assumed power at the youthful age of 36. 4. Obasanjo who succeeded him and with his decree which transfered schools from the missionaries to the government and thus killed the informal aspect of education from its root to the collapse of values and morality assumed office at the youthful age of 36. 6. Shagari who was sworn in at the youthful age of 54 ran one of the most profligate and incompetent administrations in the history of Nigeria. 6. Buhari who came on board at age 41 succeded in reintroducing selective anti-corruption war from where the January 15 1966 coupists stopped, and went on to commit other grievous acts of misgovernance which effects still live with us till today. 5. IBB who finally legalized corruption and buried national value system alive through an unprecedented and unbeaten dollar appreciation over the Naira by 1800% amidst political assassinations of fine army officers and high profile civilians assumed office at youthful age of 44, and so on...... So what exactly is the correlation between youthfulness and good governance? What fundamentally impactful change did Dimeji Bankole's 38 year old rise to House speakership make? Of what benefit to Deltans did Ibori's rise to governorship at age 42 make? What positive improvement did Lucky Igbinedion's ascendancy to power at the youthful age 44 bring Edo State people if not monumental disaster and unbridled looting which left the state in coma until a relatively elderly Oshiomhole approaching 60 came to the rescue and take it from position 25 to position 4 on the viability table measured by GDP per Capita? So what is all these useless talk about youths taking a useless destiny in their hands? Aren't we regretting today that Nigeria would have been far better than this by now had the youthful Nzeogwus and co just allowed the elderly Awolowo, Tafawa, Azikiwe, Ahmadu Bello continue with their allegedly corrupt governments? Abeg park well! |
hotseat:When last did you hear anyone in Edo State shout "Edo no be Lagos"? That hallucination has long been cleared. |
Ikanielijah4120:You obviously aren't from Edo State otherwise you would have known the current height of regret and disillusionment by the slim majority that voted for Obaseki's second term. His major critics now are members of his own PDP which he factionalized since his second term began. Moreover, his faction within the PDP has just lost legitimacy on the strength of the Appeal Court ruling delivered just two days ago. Obaseki is a powerless man in Edo State right now. |
sucess001:Your concluding sentence just captures it all. |
generalud:Please where did you learn that Esanland is in Delta State? |
Anaerobi:Believing in Nigeria is different from believing in one-Nigeria as one-Nigeria means the current kind of Nigeria built on a dubious unitary constitution introduced by the military while the genuine Nigeria was that which we had at independence facilitated by the genuinely we-the-people independence federal constitution which we all wish to return to today having seen how this unitary system disguised as one Nigeria failed us. |
