Nairaland / General / Your Talent Is Your Meal Ticket (part 2) by whatsmyname(m): 1:02pm On Jan 26, 2017
What is your Talent?

My talent is talking, which gave birth to my being a lawyer along with all my lawyering skills including the most important one, advocacy. My profession is an adaptation of my skill(s) and talent(s) and my job is a learning process towards building and cultivating my talent. What is your talent?

I am a talker and remain a talker; call it speaking, I call it talking. I shall always talk, no matter how much you try to gag me. What is your talent?

From the abundance of my ability to talk, I write. People call me a writer but I tell them that I am first a talker. My writing ability is a reflection and reality of my talking ability. Put into a rhyme, my “write-ability” is a mirror reflection of my “talk-ability” What is your talent?

While talking, I gesticulate as well, and give life to my talk the same way I do in my writings. People started calling me an actor, and a serious-minded Judge and some Justices that I appeared before, at various times, had great time watching me in my element. The former fondly compared me with Alan Shore of Boston Legal. What is your talent?

I am a writer, an actor, a communicator, a speaker. I am many things, but first I am a talker and my talk-ability draws to itself other similar attractions, just like a solid foundation allows you to build on it different edifices. Deep calling onto deep. What is your talent?

Your talent is not your 8 am – 6 pm job, which by the way you perform miserably at, and you can’t wait till quarter to 6 before you start planning your escape, James Bond style. That is your job – Just Over Broke – to keep your stomach together. What is your talent?

Nairaland / General / Shocking! See What Happened After Mmm's Return! by whatsmyname(m): 10:59pm On Jan 14, 2017
About 4 weeks after our accounts were frozen like iced blocks and about 3 weeks after my Mavros turned green and became withdrawable, ‘tori don change,’ as we usually say in our local parlance, which essentially means ‘story has changed.’ MMM is back, and back in style, to return my money; my hard earned money along with the interest that grew on it while it was in the freezer. I was ecstatic.

When the news first broke, I was in a place and position that demanded my full 100% undivided attention similar to when the DSS conducted some raids on certain individuals. It was very similar in the sense that I had guns blazing around me, armed police officers present and mean-looking area boys equally present calling for my attention left, right and center, simply because I was dressed like a Don and I was serious-looking. I was an easy target if anything went awry at what was supposed to be a covert operation. It didn’t take passersby long to gather in Nollywood style to witness the shooting of this real-life movie, Lagos-style. It was no longer covert, apparently. Hence, the last thing on my mind was to begin Mavroing, although I longed to collect my money, and I smiled at the thought of cool cash in my bank account. The Police officers that I had hitherto been angry at suddenly became my friends. I reminded myself that ‘Police is your friend’ after all, so, there was no reason to be angry. I smiled. A smile similar to the one that exudes you when you receive a credit alert at a burial ground. “Mavrodi, chere ka m bia,” (Mavrodi, wait for me, I am coming,) I said in a low tone.

At about the same time, I started receiving shared videos of participants that had started jubilating over the unfreezing of the accounts, and information of the fact that some people have requested for payments – GH (Get Help) – and have been paired. In fact, a guy, elated by the news, had gone into the studio to release a rendition of how MMM was his saviour, hailing MMM’s return. I thought, for a moment, that Mark Morrison could be asked to redo his classic, “Return of the Mark, oh sorry MMM.” After all, both names – Mark and MMM – start with M. He would just retitle it “Return of the M.” I smiled, once more. An observant person would have thought that something was wrong with my transformation from bone-face to a smiling smiley.

Unable to maintain my cool any longer, I rushed to a place that I could properly use my phone. I immediately clicked on the MMM app, only to realise that I had low battery. I managed to get into my account and promptly clicked on GH (Get Help), a procedure by which you demand for payment. Just when I was about to get a response to my command, my phone said ‘bye-bye’ to me and went off. I was hysterical, there was no light anywhere around me. In fact, I was tempted to go and plug my phone direct to the nearest transformer around me. Mavrodi, where are you!!!

After the not-so covert operation was concluded, I rushed home; no light. I quickly went to the generator to switch it on, and with the first pull that I gave it, the generator rope cut. I burst into hot sweat! This must be a conspiracy. By now, it was almost getting dark. I dashed to a neighbour’s house and asked them to allow me charge my phone. I clicked on GH; I smiled as my request was loading. That is my money loading, apparently...

To you who is asking this ridiculous question, that is not an intelligent question to ask on a public forum where serious-minded folks are showing concern for the unbriddled idiocy that we are seeing and hearing of daily about people in authority. To folks who like your inane question, I say 'wow!'

Why won't there be millions of unemployed graduates, failed education and health systems in Nigeria?
This is why my independence day message is:

Happy independence day. God bless Nigeria, Africa & d entire black race. May He heal us of selfish ideology. May we see & accept d light dat changed Asia. Ise!

My people perish for lack of understanding.

You are the only one who can heal yourself of selfish ideology, otherwise you sound like the man who is asking for advise as to whether to eat his jollof rice with spoon or fork - extreme idiocy and acute laziness.
Politics / Re: $9.3m Arms Deal: PDP Reps In $20,000 Bribery Scandal - Madaki's Confession by whatsmyname(m): 12:35pm On Sep 25, 2014
To whom it may concern

I have taken my time to read the front page of this story and to say the least, it is quite shameful and alarming that folks still abound in this country who reason the way the front page commentators do. Most of these individuals who have commented on the front page appear to me to be youthful in age, some of which I believe attended higher institutions of learning in this country or elsewhere. My question is: if youngsters can be reasoning this way, does Nigeria still have a future at all?

I see comments like "wetin be my biz", "thief collect am, thief carry am", "all these our polithiefcians sef", "...I am used to it" to mention just few. In fact, I read through the front page and I do not think that I saw any sensible, thought-provoking or sane comment by the posters. Should we keep on like this and expect foreign guests on Nairaland to think well of Nigerian youths? I think Seun and the Moderators need to start filtering persons who post on Nairaland as well as their proposed posts or messages to make sure that they pass a certain level of sanity, rationality and reasonableness before allowing them to be posted on a site as this that has a global audience.

Most of the negative reports and news that I receive on daily basis either in the dailies or online really make me sick in the stomach. From the Federal Government trying to cover up its corrupt practices both nationally and internationally, to the happenings in the National Assembly. From the rot in the NNPC that nobody says anything about anymore since after Sanusi's attempt to draw our attention to it had been stifled by the FG itself, to the happenings in our churches. And by the way, is "Mr. Integrity" still in that House?

Food for thought! Do we still have rational, right thinking, intelligent, smart and responsible youths in this country? Or it is just on Nairaland that I get to see people who reason like this - comments from folks who care less about the way the affairs of our country are being run. The youths who ought to be the beacon of light and a ray of hope of this country are really missing on the scene.

To the intelligent youths still in circulation, remember that "where few good men refuse to condemn evil (as I see on almost a daily basis), evil will abound in its limitless measure."

Addition to the list!!

1. Never take a critical decision when you are angry, as you are not in the right frame of mind to do so.

2. Separate the reason of your anger from the person. they are two separate things.

3. Take deep breathes as your breathing is likely to be shallow when you are angry and are about to explode.

4. If you have to talk, then take it easy; talk slowly and try to watch your words.

If you cannot do all the above, or you've done all the above and you are still feeling vengeful, then walk away from the person, situation, issue or place that is making you angry before you say or do something you are likely to regret later on after your anger must have subsided.

Remember, it is easy for anyone to be angry; but to be angry at the right time, at the right person, for the right reason, in the right degree or proportion, at the right place is not easy.

This is so unforunate. Investigations should similarly be conducted by the police and not just the Army command. The offence for which the soldier is being court martialled is "abandoning duty post" and not rape, as they do not have jurisdiction to try a criminal offence; it is the court that has that power. So, let her lawyer with the help of the police do the needful so that the soldier can be rewarded in the court of law for his hard early morning labour and dedication to his duty. As part of his reward, he should also be deployed to chibok.

That date is not realistic. And if they go ahead nevertheless, my son will not resume with them and I will advise smart parents to do the same. As far as I am concerned, better safe than sorry in a country where the government cares less for its citizens and has no proactive measure on how to tackle the virus. This is the height of insensitivity of the government. Parents should keep in mind that the politicians' children are schooling abroad; can they be bothered?

Further to the op's view, I must add that this is totally unacceptable! It is barbaric, inhumane, dehumanizing, not to mention that it is criminal as well. No private citizen has the right to punish someone suspected of stealing irrespective of what is stolen. In fact, it is not the duty of the police to do anything similar. There is a law on stealing and it the sole preserve of the courts of law to hand down punishments commensurate to the act in question. The earlier we realise that this situation is getting out of hand, the better. More so as someone might just decide to set you up one day just to debase and humiliate you for no apparent reason. Our politicians who
steal and loot the treasury should be the ones to be treated this way; but rather they receive immunity and are even protected by the same people who ought to be the protectors and enforcers of the law.

And by the way, the persons who stood by watching this scene, took these snap shots and shared them
are as guilty as, if not more than, the mean-hearted strippers.

Wow! That is a staggering large amount of money. 8 billion dollars multiplied by 160 gives you a trillion, two hundred and eighty billion naira. Hmmm... na wa o! Come to think of it, a country that practises a system of government called kleptocracy can never catch any oil thief. Or can a thief catch and prosecute itself? Impossible! A kingdom that is divided against itself cannot stand.

If she did not seek it, then she did not need it, did she? And the last time I checked, you are the one who chases admissions in Naija universities, and not the other way round, except some boys are probably hungry and need your money to maintain. In that case, give them if you are such a generous giver. lol.

Everyone is possessive of one thing or another; afterall, aren't you possessive of your mobile gadget or some other things, either animate or inanimate. It is simply that some people's possessiveness is pronounced, more visible and stronger than others; and also depending on the object of possession, you may never know.

Did you take your natural skills, talents and abilities into consideration before choosing this pathway? If not, you need to go back to the drawin board; thank God you are still young. The mistakes that many youngsters make in choosing their career paths in life is that they allow irrelevant factors such as peer pressure, ignorant parents, older ones who know next to nothing about the true meaning of life, hunger, vanity among others to dictate their career path as opposed to finding out God's gifts, talents and natural abilities in them and choosing their career paths.

She is your partner, your soul mate, your friend. Do you tell your friend or partner to go do all the work while your sit your lousy black a.r.s.e somewhere only for the reward to show and you stick your tongue out like a dehydrated dog wanting a piece of the goody? I bet you will not. For your info, my wife and I share house chores. So, look no further; c'est fini.

And is there any substantial difference between the two?

Op, was a female or were females involved? Yes! Was there opportunity to have done it? Yes! Was there familiarity between the doer and the doee or doees? Yes! What then are we talking about here! We should all learn to live up to our responsibilities and own up for our mess ups. I detest this idea of trying to differentiate purple from lilac. If the wife does not have adequate evidence to successfully prove adultery, is it not safer to sue for something else, at least that she can conveniently prove! We need to stop this hypocrisy already.

This reminds me of the time Sanusi made an open allegation that NNPC did not remit a specified sum of money to the Federation account and folks were calling for his removal while the government through Madam Okonjo was vehemently denying the amount in question. My question to Okonjo was simple and straight forward: Was money missing? Yes! Was the money accounted for? No! Do we know the whereabouts of the missing money? No! Then the amount is irrelevant. Let us answer the pertinent questions and stop being hypocritical.
