CHAPTER 18 “Where is the car key” Anthony’s mom was shouting at the top of her lungs to sleeping Anthony. She went nearer and tapped Anthony to wake up, but Anthony was still lost in his nightmare. She tapped him again and called out his name “Anthony, wake up” Anthony was professing words from his dream “I don’t… have any… pass key” “I … don’t” His mother was mystified; she noticed the beads of sweats that formed on his head. she tapped him harder this time and it jolted Anthony from his dream back to reality. “Anthony, what’s wrong?” his mom asked. Anthony sat upright, trying to keep his eyes open and get his bearings “Mom? What? What’s wrong?” Anthony asked. “I am the one to ask the question, here you are having nightmare, and it’s not long that you slept, you can’t even control your sleeping attitude.” His mother said this as she shaked her head. “Where is the car key?” his mother asked him. Anthony started gaining his preference said “The car key or the pass key?” Anthony confusedly asked this question. A quizzical look was on his face. This almost plunge his mother into slapping him “THE CAR KEY?! YOUR DAD’S CAR KEY, YOU KEPT IT FOR HIM WHEN YOU REPOSITIONED HIS CAR YESTERDAY!” “Em, em, it is in my drawer” Anthony said as he vehemently regained his bearings. Shaking her head, his mother went to his drawer and took out the car key. “Anyway, wash your face, your Dad wants to talk to you” his mother said. “About what?” Anthony asked with a puzzled look on his face. “I don’t know, you should go ahead and ask him yourself” his mother went out of his room. Anthony adjusted his trouser jeans on his waist properly and went into the toilet to wash his face. |
.......................Continuation.............................. Gen. Audu bolted up from his chair and went around to look at the laptop that was positioned on table before them. “Shoot” He said. “While I was cross examining the movements of the lips, teeth and tongue of the subjects” (She made Anthony subject one, and Chief Fredrick subject two.) She went on “Subject one lips moved with intrinsically multimodal, since producing speech requires the speaker to make movements of the lips, teeth and tongue which are often visible in face-to-face communication. While Subject two lips and teeth moved with the face, whereby making speech perception easier, seeing the speaker can free up cognitive resources, enabling deeper processing of speech content.” Gen. Audu don’t want all this, so he said irritably “Please go straight to the point” Clearing her throat, Susan said “Okay” “Subject one said; ‘Are you are alright sir’ ” She continued “But due to the break in lip pattern, I could only make up of: ‘find that video …. It is in the hands of Reporter’” Susan wrote down this words in a sheet of A4 paper her left hand caught on the table. SUBJECT ONE: Are you are alright sir? SUBJECT TWO: find that video …. It is in the hands of Reporter.... “That’s all” Susan said Gen. Audu plunged into deep thoughts about something unknown. Susan searched his face for a response, but none was given. So she repeats her statement again “That’s all sir” This jolted Gen. Audu back to reality, “You say?” “I said that is all I could get” She said in a diffident voice. “Okay, Thanks” Gen. Audu forced a smile as he said this. “When you get downstairs in the new car that will take you back home, I have secured your fee with the driver of the car, you can get it from him” Gen. Audu said further. Susan smiled gently “Nice doing business with you sir” she outstretched her hand to shake Gen. Audu. Gen. Audu received her soft hand into his rough hand with pretentious smiles on his face “You have been much helpful. Get home safely” He opened the door for her to exit to the room. |
................ .. .........Continuation..................... “YEAH, I have already ordered for a lip reader” Gen. Audu said to the other person on the other line. “That damn old kangaroo spilled the secrets to one Anthony Opara” he said further “Am not sure, am still speculating on it” “You might be right and you might be wrong” said Scorpion. “Let the lip reader confirm your intuition” Scorpion said further. There was a knock at the door. “Scorp, I think she is already here, I will call you later, stand down for further instructions” Gen. Audu said as he hung up the phone and puts the phone back to its cradle. Sitting down gently on his soft-foamed swivel chair, he said “Come in” There entered was a bodyguard that a masculine physique, he looks like wrestler, but he wasn’t. “Sir, the lady is here.” “Let her in” Gen. Audu replied. “Yes Sir” the bodyguard turned and went out of the room. Gen. Audu had to bring Susan to one of his condos because he don’t want her to know who he really his. Even in the later future, if she gets to know him, there will be nothing she can do. “I cover my tracks” Gen. Audu always says this. The door of the room opened and Susan Akiobe entered into the room. Gen. Audu sprang up to shake his servicer. “I am Muhammed Gafar” Gen. Audu said to her. “Susan Akiobe” she said in sweet rhythmic voice. They both shook hands with traits of smiles on their face “Nice to meet you” they said this in unison. “Have a seat” Gen. Audu said in a modest way. She did and Gen. Audu retraced back his steps back to his chair. Facing Susan now, he said “Let’s go straight to business” Gen. Audu said again. Susan nodded her head lightly as she listened to Gen. Audu. “My CCTV Camera recorded a shooting event that happened in one of my estates, there was some conversation that took place when the shooting was in motion, what was said in the conversation is of utmost important, as it would unlock the identity and residing area of the perpetrators, but due to the lack of audio or sound, we could not go about it.” “Where is the video?” Susan asked in an official manner. Gen. Audu opened the down drawer of the table in front of him. He brought out the flash drive Thomas Kind gave him. A laptop is already by his side on that table; he opened the laptop and makes the screen face Susan. He rose up from his chair as he inserted the flash drive into the laptop and stand beside Susan. He leaned down a bit and operated the laptop, entered a few commands, and the CCTV recordings pop-up. Immediately Susan brought out a notepad from her bag and scuffs some words into it as the recordings continued playing. Gen. Audu is a patient lion, looking at Susan has she did her magic. Susan was saying non-audible words to herself. THIRTY MINUTES later in Gen. Audu’s condo, Susan studied the video displaying in front her eyes. Gen. Audu sat on his swivel chair again, playing Chess on his mobile android device. “I am through” Susan said with certainty. |
CHAPTER 17 After several hours on the plane, Susan Akiobe landed in Alpha Eagle Airlines. Susan Akiobe, black in complexion, short and pretty, had to cancel her appointment with other clients in Lagos because of this client of hers that have already paid her triple of what the other clients are going to pay, before she even render her services. Being a lip reader was not an easy profession for her; she remembered how she started in the beginning, as a novice. Then, lip reading or speech reading was very hard for her, as she was a slow learner and also lip reading deals with visually interpreting the movements of the lips, face and tongue when normal sound is not available. The first few months; seeing the mouth plays a role in the very young infant’s early sensitivity to speech, and prepares them to become speakers at one to two years. A baby as an exemplary figure must learn to shape their lips in accordance with the sounds they hear, seeing the speaker may help them to this. The plane was galloping now, the pilot speaker opened up and the voice of the pilot came through “Thirty minutes till we get to Kaduna”. 50 minutes later, a taxi car was already outside. The taxi driver was holding a placard with Susan’s name on it. She waved at the taxi driver, making the taxi driver lead her to his car after she came out of the airport. In the taxi car, grazing out at the street and environs of Kaduna State, she smiled at how some certain children singed and laughed. This made her remember her son back home in Lagos. He is Tolulope, three years of age, but she shred a tear when she remembered how Tony her husband drove her and their son out of the house. Leading her to live and strive alone with the child, she had to leave Tolulope in charge of a nanny, to watch over him, while she is away. She quickly used a handkerchief to clear off the tears in her eyes when she saw that the taxi driver was glancing at her through the rear mirror. Her client must be a very wealthy person, but what was strange to her was that her client didn’t reveal his identity and her client undertake to pay her handsomely with her travel expenses. Well, what concerns me, “In and out” that’s Susan’s mantra. “I will render my services and leave without asking questions, in and out.” Susan always keeps this in mind. There are things this money will do for me and my baby. Lots of things. |
............................. Continuation........................ The demon puts on a wicked smile on his face which led to the disfiguration of his handsome face into the real demon that he was. Now he was clothed with black and darkness surrounded him, his face changed into what Anthony has never seen before in his life. He had the same eyes with the python. Demon was filled with anger he said “Your friend is in the other prison” “Can you hear the screams?” “His agony?” ‘Sufferings that make him wish death than life?” It can be heard, Anthony sense of hearing that is now working. He could hear the screams of Saheed in the other prison. His eyes was filled with horror. “Where is your pass key for the last time, Anthony?” When Anthony couldn't bear the pain any longer, he said “The pass key is …………..” |
.................. Continuation................................... it had a human form, he had the kind of face that stopped you in your tracks. I guess he must get used to that, the sudden pause in a person’s natural expression when they looked his way followed by overcompensating with a nonchalant gaze and a weak smile. He’s got that brown skin Adonis look going on, dark eyes that make anybody weak at the knees. He’s a fair few inches taller than Anthony. He’s slim, muscular, with an almost perfectly symmetrical face. His rich chocolate hair that had tousled griminess which promised finesse. He had strong arched brows and eyelashes so thick, and his eyes, they were deep and catastrophic, and a vivid baby blue as a great body of water that softly melted into a milky green. Anthony could see the flecks of silver in his eyes. He has an African heritage that shows in his features and body type. Nearly everyone will love him; they will get drawn to him. With full grace of white garment like that of the white garment churches, his garment is white as soul, and a drawing of love in an apple form was attached on the upper front of his garment, at the chest level. The demon kept his mind games on, circling and at last put a stop to it. He was facing Anthony, looking into Anthony’s somnolent and pleading eyes. He bent down and touched the python’s body and lifted the python’s thorny head to lip, and he kissed it. Not looking at Anthony as he said “Where is your pass key for the last time?” Anthony as shut out the happenings of his surrounding and was focusing only on the demon replied in tired and frustrated tone “I don’t know any pass key” The demon smiled, his smile was breathtaking, and it could seize a sadistic lady’s heart. Smiling sweetly and friendly as he said “Anthony, just tell me your pass key and this will be over, I promise you.” He said this with an assuring face. Anthony replied back “I swear to you, I don’t know what you are talking about.” And suddenly Anthony lost it due to the pain the python was inflicting below his neck. “I DON’T KNOW ANY PASS KEY” “I DON’T KNOW ANY PASS KEY” “MAKE IT STOP, PLEASE” Mucus was already liquidating out of Anthony’s nose and it went straight down into the python’s mouth, as the python opened his mouth for more of it. |
CHAPTER 16 “Where is your pass key?” The demon asked. “What … pass key?” Anthony replied has he tried to get his bearings. He's trying to make up where he is currently. There were iron doors infront of him like that of a prison. Helmets, swords and spears are being hanged by the left side of the wall, he could also see four lighted touches that illuminated the whole prison room making everything in the room more visible enough. Screams of torture could be heard in the other prison room, the entire prison room reeks of blood, human blood, and it was so nauseating that Anthony had to throw up. “Where is your pass key?” the demon asked again. Anthony didn’t respond but tried to make out the current state he was in. He was being tied up, one long iron chain was used to hold up his left hand on the left side, while another long iron chain was used to hold up his right hand on the right side. He could feel how the blood on both arms washed down to his shoulders, the sensitivity of both hand was lost. Anthony could feel the pain on his body, as if a rope was used to bind his stomach part. But he was wrong. Lo and behold, he looked his stomach part. There it was, a ferocious, poisonous and constrictor of a python. The python had a cold eyes like that of a vampire, its skin was blending with the touches’ light. It weighed between 260 – 300 pounds, which such weigh it could swallow Anthony as a whole, and with that weigh, it was weighing down Anthony, almost peeling off his skin. The python constricted Anthony’s stomach part affecting his ribs, making the ribs bend a little. Anthony screamed in agony as the python did this, this python was different from all other pythons he had watched in documentaries, it had sharp thorns on the head. Anthony covered with beads of sweats, wailing and crying for mercy from the demon, but the demon was a master of mind games. The demon laughed at the supplication of Anthony, he was enjoying his sufferings, and it delighted him a lot. Anthony was marveled as he looked intently at the demon. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing, the demon itself was imagined to have a rough face or figure, wearing a black clothe and soaked in darkness. But this demon was different........ …..........Continuation...................././/. “Ye--s, Yes sir” He replied. His right hand was placed on the mouse while the left was used to punch the keyboards; he entered some commands that revealed yesterday’s activities. “At what time sir?” Thomas Kind asked Gen. Audu “Well, let’s say 4.00pm, when the shootings took place in the car park” Gen. Audu said this with a straight face. He entered the necessary commands and viola, the CCTV was showing the recorded version of the shootings. The assailants was already fleeing the scene, but Gen. Audu said “Reverse it” Thomas Kind reversed the video until when it reached the desired part where Gen. Audu wanted to watch. “Stop”. He quit reversing it and made a halt. The video was now emanating the part where Chief Fredrick ran like a mad man and finally kneeled in front of Anthony behind a vehicle. But he couldn’t see what else was going on when Chief Fredrick kneeled, he now commanded Thomas Kind with anxiety in his voice “Make me see what is going on behind that vehicle, can’t you see that the vehicle is obstructing the camera’s view?” “Am.. Sorry” Thomas Kind said this unsteadily. He mounted his fingers on the keyboard and entered some commands on it. The computer switched the video to another camera that revealed what Gen. Audu was aching for. “Yeah, right there” he said. The computer revealed how Chief Fredrick said something non-audible to Anthony. “Who is this boy? And what is Chief Fredrick saying to him?” asked Gen. Audu in his mind “It is not audible” Gen. Audu said “The CCTV did not come with audio, Sir” said Thomas Kind Gen. Audu was dumbfounded by this response. Which made him say; “Then what are you guys doing here, the CCTV Camera did not come with audios and here you are seating down and at the end of the month, you guys collect your salaries and emolutions” Gen. Audu said this harshly. All the others working in the room stopped what they were doing for a moment, looking towards where Gen. Audu was. Thomas Kind said “We are sorry sir” without thinking it. Gen. Audu ignored him and faced the matter at hand, thinking in his head “I will have to get a lip reader and time is not on my side”. “Can this part be copied out for me?” asked Gen. Audu “Ye..s Sir” replied Thomas Kind as he cleared his throat. “Copy it in a flash drive for me then” Gen. Audu said Thomas Kind opened his drawer and brought out a 32 giga byte flash drive, inserted the drive into the computer’s CPU and pressed some commands on the keyboard, making the part that Gen. Audu needed to be copied in the flash drive. He removed the flash drive and gave it to Gen. Audu. He snatched it and went stood up and out of the room. Thomas Kind heaved a sigh and took a short breath. Chapter 16 loading stay glued. |

CHAPTER 15 Marching through the command station like a soldier that he was, Gen. Audu looked around. Soldiers mounting fingers on their keyboard rose up with full attention, saluting for their General, not knowing that he was just a wolf in sheep’s clothing, they all stood up at the sighting of Gen. Audu approaching. He walked briskly, looking at the time on his wristwatch, it says 10:30, and he was expecting a call. In that moment, the call came in, vibrating in Gen. Audu’s trouser pocket, he fished it out of his pocket, and pressed the receiving button. “Hello, Sir” said Gen. Audu “Have you found the evidence?” asked the other man on the line Gen. Audu hate disappointing this man “No, No -- Sir” “What have you been doing all this while? Eh?” asked the man Gen. Audu lowered his voice to a whisper “I thought I was going to find it when the Chief came to the event, but it didn’t work as I expected for it to.” “Now listen, I don’t care how many trees you have to shake to make this evidence surface, just find the goddamn evidence or else you will go down” said the man Gen. Audu want to reply quick and assure him, but he had cut off the connection “I assure you sir, hello? Hello? Sir?” “This stupid man, how dare he threaten me and push me around?” Gen. Audu asked this question to nobody entirely. He set his phone back into his pocket and kept walking again, he got to a room, a sign was written on the door of the room ‘Only Authorised Personnel’. He holds the door knob turned it and pushed the door, he stepped into a world of computers, technicians and sophisticated advanced computer gadgets. They all stood in as he walked into the room “Shun Sir” they marched their boots on the ground in unison. “Continue” he said to them. And they returned to their former activities. Gen. Audu went straight to where all CCTV of the Nigerian Defence Academy is being recorded for records purpose. There were only two men at the CCTV Camera Station, one was dark and bald with spots of black in his teeth, while the other was light and hairy, and had an afro hairstyle cut. “Take a break” Gen. Audu ordered the dark man. The dark man stood up and left the station to somewhere else, Gen. Audu took his vacated seat and looked at the light man before asking. “What is your name” Gen. Audu asked “My name is Thomas, Thomas Kind” Thomas Kind said this with modesty. “Thomas Kind” Gen. Audu said. “Well, Thomas Kind, I would love to see the CCTV Video Recordings of yesterday’s happenings” To be continued. |

CHAPTER 13 Death is the end of all living organism so says science and the Supreme Being. We live day in and day out never thinking of death. We eat, drink, play, work and sleep is all we do, but we don’t think of when death is going to overshadow us and encamp us into the spirit world. It was said that when people die, they become soulless; they cease to exist, their world and life ends there, their jobs, money, wife or husband (if they had one) and thoughts. What is left of them is their legacy, how did they live their lives. This is my first time attending a funeral service, the funeral service of Saheed. My friend that makes me laugh with his humour, it was like yesterday, it was yesterday, after the realization dawned on me, I was deposed by the police and I wrote statement of the scenes I witnessed, how it all happened in real time, but I left the part where the Chief Fredrick told me of the evidence, the video. Chief Fredrick saturated in his own blood, I saw his tired eyes seeking mine, imploring me to find the reporter, but he failed to mention the name of the reporter. I had to be here for my friend, the two hours friendship meant a lot to me. Saheed, rolled in a white garb now leveled into the hole, the dark hole that comprises of maybe a sinister or a consecrated vacuity. The bereaved family was wailing and crying as bereavement has cut short the lifespan of their young and energetic son. Buried with full military honours and saluted for as if he had fought many battles and conquered many enemies, pictorially, he was painted as a gigantic figure that is not to be toiled with. Six military operatives lined up, three on the left, the other three on the right, they raised up their guns in unison as the body was being laid in, firing three shots upward, the memory of yesterday’s shootings came back to me in a flashback. The funeral had finished and everyone leaving the cemetery, Saheed’s parent touched their son’s grave site and muttered a word that was not audible enough to my ear, after which they left, I stood there looking at the grave site, tears flocked down on my cheek, but I comport myself and kneeled down beside Saheed’s grave site and said in a low tone “Till we meet again my good friend”. “WHAT CAUSED THE SHOOTINGS” asked a black reporter to General Audu “I don’t know what caused the shootings, but we and the Kaduna Police Command have already set an investigation in motion, and I assure you that the perpetrators will be brought to justice” replied Gen. Audu The reporters tried to swarm him with other questions, but he said “No more comment, please, thank you” as he find his way out of the reporters in front of him with the help of his bodyguard. Inside his office, Gen. Audu sat down and was contemplating about which action should be taken. He has already ordered the compilation of yesterday’s shooting video from the CCTV Security Department. “There should be a clue that will lead us to where the video and documents are” Gen. Audu said in his thought. CROSSING the street and heading to get a taxi to take me home, I was bunged by a fair looking man, he wore a silk black jacket and had a brown eyes. He looked into my eyes, piercing my soul or should I say searching my soul for God-knows-what, but he was looking intently at me. I tried to take the right way to pass him by, but he blocked by path, still looking at me, then I said “Excuse me” in a respectful way. “You must be Anthony Godwill, right?” asked the man “Yes, and who are you?” Anthony replied with a quizzical look on his face. “I am Charles Armstrong” replied the man as he outstretched is arm to shake Anthony’s arm. But Anthony recoiled, looking at him and said “Am sorry, I do not know you, and I have no idea how you get to know my name” Charles withdrawing is outstretched arm back to the former position and dipping them into his trouser pocket said “I will go straight to the point, but while not let us discuss what am about to tell you in that restaurant” he pointed to the restaurant across the road. “Am sorry, I don’t converse with strangers” Anthony said as he tried to take another route to where he was going, but was cut short by the words of Charles “I know Chief Fredrick told you something yesterday before he died” Anthony turned back; he was dumbfounded on how did the stranger calling himself Charles knew about what the dying Chief Fredrick said. “And I can assure you that you are in grave danger, Anthony” said Charles with a serious look on his face. |

STFUareyouGod:When someone tells you that Jesus is coming soon, don't look at it as if Jesus will blow trumpet and host of angels at his back, this will still come. But when your great grandfather died, his Jesus as came and took him. Jesus is coming when nobody knows, like a thief in the night. When you are already snoring and sleeping, he will come to collect the soul and breath he gave you or when you are eating, chatting, fornicating or whenever it please him to take you away. My friend, all that Jesus laid down as do's and don't are for our own benefits ooo. Don't steal, lie, fornicate (in the process of fornicating one might contact incurable diseases). Now tell me how Jesus has made life unbearable for us all, no, he hasn't, he made life wonderful and joyous whenever we are in him. Peace. |

CHAPTER 14 Inside the restaurant, many customers were coming in to buy food, some were going out already eaten, while some are going out with a container of food in hand. Charles ordered for two Coca-Cola drinks for me and him and paid for it instantly, he was to collect change, but he told the person to keep the change. The Coca-Cola was placed in front of us, set on the table, but I don’t want a drink from a total stranger. Charles said in a husky voice after taking a sip of his drink “Do you know the reason Chief Fredrick died?” “No, and I don’t want to know, why don’t you go straight to the point and elucidate more on what you are saying” replied Anthony “Good, I am Charles Armstrong, I work for the NIA” said Charles Anthony asked with a puzzled look on his face “What is NIA” “It is Nigeria Investigation Agency” he said further “It is a classified secret agency” “If it is a classified secret agency, why are you telling me about its existence?” asked Anthony “I had to, for you to believe me” replied Charles Charles pressed further “Chief Fredrick approached our Agency Director last year, he gave accounts of some evil perpetrators camouflaging themselves as politicians in Nigeria, and they were sanctioning hits on innocent people, bending people to do their will with the use of violence and guns.” And he narrated the whole thing about the blood feud between the Southern Political Faction and the Northern Political Faction and how the Northern Political Faction poisoned the former President, and pushed up their own candidate to the presidential seat, by the means of assassinating key political mates and killing their opponent’s presidential candidate. Charles paused a little, as he sipped his drink and ordering a female attendee to get doughnuts, so as to let Anthony digest what he has just heard. “How did Chief Fredrick knew of the Agency if it was classified?” asked Anthony adroitly. Charles was perplexed “You don’t need to know” “I need to know the whole story if you truly want the information you are seeking” Anthony said with a more serious look on his face. The female attendee arrived back with the doughnuts in a nlyon and on a stray. She dropped the tray in front of Charles and he paid for it, and she went away before Charles replied the question. “Well” Charles looked down on his doughnuts for five seconds before raising up his head and said “Chief Fredrick is a deep cover secret agent of the Agency” Anthony said “What?” Charles went further “He has been in the Agency for so long, since his youth, he was a spy operative, the gathering of classified secrets from foreign enemies, which will be beneficial to the country.” Anthony looked around and rubbed his face with his palm and muttered “Oh God” under his breath. “So, who are these assassins that killed my friend” asked Anthony as he tightened his fist. Taking a short breath, Charles said “We call it Latnoc, which is headed by Major General Audu of Nigeria Defence Academy” he said further “Am sure you know him.” Anthony couldn’t believe that such a man like Gen. Audu could soil his hands in unscrupulous and malfeasance acts especially in the killing of people, innocent people. Gen. Audu has been Anthony’s role model and fantasy for joining the Nigeria Defence Academy, but as his mother always said “Never trust anymore, even me your mother”. Speaking with renewed courage and spirited vigor, Anthony said “I will tell you what Chief Fredrick said to me on one condition” “Which is?” Charles asked “I will take part in bringing Latnoc to justice.” Anthony replied “You must be crazy” Charles said as he made a chuckle “You can’t stand against Latnoc without any formal training, you will be a liability and you might die if you do so because we can’t keep you safe.” “Don’t worry about me, a deal or not” asked Anthony looking straight into Charles eye balls. Charles shaked his head slowly “I will talk to my superiors about it” “And also, we will put two of our security agents at your house” he said further. “Why?” “Do you know how I got to know that Chief Fredrick told you something before he died? Well, there was a CCTV Security camera in the car park where all the shootings took place. I saw how the kneeling Chief Frederick spoke something to you, and if I noticed it, then Gen. Audu will notice it too.” Anthony took a short breath before saying “All right” Charles rose up to leave but was cut short by Anthony words “How am I going to contact you?" "Don't worry, I will find you" Charles said without looking back. |
CHAPTER 12 Anthony moved along side Saheed as they both talked and exchanged numbers in the parking lot. “Did you hear that? They are awarding the graduants” said Saheed “Yeah, one day we too are going to be awarded and be inducted into the military” said Anthony. “It will be a long journey, brother” said Saheed “Yeah, it will, I can’t wait to be called Major General Anthony” Anthony blushily said. Saheed smiled, me too. Anthony looked around the parking lot and saw Chief Fredrick and said to Saheed “it isn’t that Chief Fredrick of Southern Political Faction?” “It is.” “Look at him, fine man” replied Saheed At the corner of Anthony’s eye, he saw a figure emerge out behind a tree and started firing quick gunshot at Chief Fredrick, but Chief Fredrick’s bodyguard stepped in front of Chief Fredrick making the bullets hit him on his forehead, stomach and shoulder blade, the bullet that entered his shoulder blade pierced his bone and went straight to hit another human being. KADUNA DISTRICT UNIT POLICE vehicle was stationed in front of Nigeria Defence Academy. Abu, Niyi, Shola and some handful of other Police operatives dressed in operational uniforms ran towards the place where the gunshots was released, while the DPO stayed in the event hall with five Police operatives to guard the place and claim the people from panic. ANTHONY on kneels, frightened by the gunshots, he looked up from behind the car he was behind and saw more figures rushing out from a car. He turned to look at his friend Saheed, but less did he know that Saheed had been hit by the straight bullet had penetrated the bodyguard’s shoulder blade, it caught him by the ribs and Saheed died on the spot. Anthony shaking Saheed and whispering “Saheed, Saheed, what’s wrong man?” He shaked his body again but it was arid. Saheed laid there on the ground, eyes looking up and never blinking. That was when Anthony’s hand touched the rib section of Saheed’s body and saw blood, blood oozed out in great mass. Anthony trembled, as he was about to drop a tear, he saw a figure rushing towards him, his heartbeat accelerated and his spirit was about to jump out of him when the figure appeared. “Chief Fredrick” Anthony was startled. Still in his Agbada attire, Chief Fredrick was covered with beads of sweats as he kneeled beside Anthony, he as being hit by the series of gunshots. “Are you are alright sir” asked Anthony Breathing heavily Chief Fredrick replied “Am fine, …. they are trying to kill me, ….. you need to listen to me carefully, …. you need to find that video and documents that incriminate the Northern Political Faction in the death of …… the former Presi… ” “Don’t talk anymore” Anthony whispered “Let’s get out of here first of all” “Listen to me ….. find that video …. It is in the hands of Reporter ….” He was fading away. “COVER ME” shouted Officer Niyi to his fellow Police operatives as they fired multiple shots at the assailants. In the course of using brute force to capsize the assailants stance, one the assailants got hit and expired on the spot. Also, one of the police operatives got hit by the right ear, his ear splattered away into tiny bits. Bullets were traded, that could deafen the human sense of hearing, merciless and brutal assassins of Latnoc tried to push the police operatives into a corner, but they were wrong, the police operatives were too equipped with guns and other security amenities. In the savage and sinister moment as this, both forces dishing out all they got through the use of man-made metal in this territory. Scorpion saw that he could not bring the police operatives to its kneel, calculated his options and realized it is a waste of time to continue this battle without any assurance of victory, he needs to retreat now, as more police reinforcements are already joining the battle of bullets. “Retreat, Retreat” Scorpion shouted at the top of his lungs to his co-assassins. They ditched the war and entered into a vehicle that accommodate all of them, that was already parked, and had been gutted with bullets but was still functioning. Scorpion at the wheel of the vehicle as he turned on the ignition key and wound off through the already prepared escaped route that Gen. Audu has already prepared in case of necessity, well it is more than useful now as Scorpion swerved the vehicle followed by some series of gunshots fired to the vehicle, which penetrated and hit the back neck of one of the assassins in the vehicle. Niyi barked orders at his fellow police operatives to lockdown Nigeria Defence Academy gates and all escape routes. Running back to the scene where the battle took place, he shouted that someone should get an ambulance as he saw Chief Fredrick already soaked in his own blood, next to Chief Fredrick’s body is another lifeless body, which Niyi did not recognized, standing next to the body is Anothny crying but he was not audible, one could see the bloodstains on his hands. Niyi pointed the Glock GT834 to Anthony, saying “Let me see your hands” “I didn’t kill them …. They were shot by those people.” Anthony was crying audible now. "This is my friend Saheed, we met at the registrar' office" Anthony said further. Niyi lowered his gun as he shouted for medical assistance “Call an ambulance ! ” to his fellow police operative standing at his back. His walkie-talking attached to his belt on his waist spark up to life “Officer Niyi, report your status” Niyi removed the walkie-talkie, took a little breath and said “Am good, the assassins got away and we lost one man” “What about Chief Fredrick? Is he alive?” asked the other person on the line. “No, he is dead” responded Niyi There was a five seconds silence on other line, but afterwards said “Call an ambulance to clear up the body” “Bodies” replied Niyi, he said further “There is another body here, it is a male, I think it is one of the student of Nigeria Defence Academy, and I have the friend of the dead unknown student here too, Male” “What?” the person on the other line cursed under his breath. “Have you deposed the boy?” (Referring to Anthony) “No, I haven’t” replied Niyi “Depose him and find out everything he knows about what happened” said the other person on the line as he killed the connection. |
CHAPTER 11 Bow tie around the neck and dressed in an armless suit with a chinos trouser is Scorpion, he moved with grace and smiles on his face as he was serving guests with wines. He looked up towards the east wing, he saw the table of Chief Fredrick and he head towards it. Fifteen minutes ago he had dropped the Iris Flower Venom that looked like a capsule into the wine he was about to serve Chief Fredrick. “Sir, your wine” said Scorpion Chief Fredrick’s bodyguard looked up and waved the wine away but Chief Fredrick poring through his phone log glanced up and told Scorpion to put the wine on the table. Scorpion did and went away with a smirk on his face. Chief Fredrick tried to call one of his bodyguards that was in his former car, but it was not successful. He said to his bodyguard “I think they have gotten to my bodyguard’s car” “Sir, it happened as you predicted” replied the bodyguard. “They will try to pull another attempt here, in the enemies’ territory” he said “But they won’t succeed, I won’t eat or drink anything here” he further said. “That’s the best thing to do” said the bodyguard. The event as started and there was bright light here and there, the host of the event called himself Alade Simon. He greeted and thanked everyone for being here at this great event. Without wasting time he said they should all rise up for the Nigeria National Anthem. Everybody stood and sang the national anthem after which they pledged in one accord. They all sat triumphantly and listened to the next course of action. The host said that due to the heavy rain and bad weather taking place in Lagos where the Chief Speaker is, the organizers of the event as passed the role to Chief Fredrick. “Damn it” Scorpion muttered to Gen. Audu in the parking lot. “That bastard didn’t drink that wine, I guess he already knows that we are on to him” he said further. Gen. Audu plunged into deep thoughts and said “We will assassinate him openly then” “What?” asked Scorpion “That’s too risky, this is a military ground” “And I control the damn military” said Gen. Audu “How are we to run this now?” Scorpion asked. “I will call in the other Brotherhood troops and send all the military officers here to a fishing expedition” said Gen. Audu. Scorpion nodding his head lightly now said as if he remembered something he was trying to recall “What about the Policemen I saw outside?” “Can’t you guys handle a small horde of Policemen?” asked Gen. Audu “Very well” said Scorpion. IN THE backstage, Chief Fredrick was happy that he was going to give a speech that is being televised live throughout Nigerian stations and overseas. He wants to gain publicity and momentum by giving a very heart touching speech like how the World leaders and Presidents of foreign countries used to give speech without making a mistake. The tension of being assassinated was floating down in his body, he thought “They will never try killing me in front of this people or in a place full of military presence like this”. “Ladies and Gentlemen, lets clap our hands together as Chief Fredrick come on stage” said the host. They all did as Chief Fredrick mounts up the stage leaving his bodyguard backstage. “Thank you everyone, good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I am very delighted to be here to witness and award our soldiers who have went through corporal training to protect their country Nigeria” he said. “Some of these our soldiers comes from different homes, tribes, ethnics and religion, leaving there loved ones inorder to be a soldier and merge up here to protect their country Nigeria in which they pledged to protect in their national anthem. Don’t be shocked that some of these our soldiers have being bad mouthed about and some their parents even disown them because they are yearning into a world of violence, let me put it like that. Soldiering is not violence, there has to be strategy put in place to face terrorist, there has to be strategy put in place to face war, there has to be strategy put in place to protect lives and properties from pandemonium. This doesn’t mean that these soldiers are sacrificial lambs during the time of war; it doesn’t mean they are the goats to be slaughtered, it means that they are humanitarian, that they love their nation Nigeria. They are not cowards like most people nowadays, they have a cause, and they have a mission and objective to wade off the sinisters that destroys humanity and civilization. I talked to a soldier last two years at the peace conference dinner at Manchester Hall in United States of America, mind you I didn’t come to this podium to talk stories, this not a story, he is a young man, very handsome and alluring, but he couldn’t walk because he lost his mobility due to the gunshot to his back which affected his spinal cord. It is pitiful right? Yeah, for a man of classiness like him, but he didn’t give up there. I asked him “Jack, do you regret joining the army, cos if you didn’t join the army you would still have your mobility to walk here and there” He replied saying “I might have lost my mobility to walk, but I made a positive impact in protecting my country, I was on mission to Taiwan to stop the terrorists kidnapping United States’ children and turning them into a suicide bomber, we rescued fifty children from the helms of these terrorists, I shred tears when I saw young children in a container, I saved lives so there is no regrets.” These are the kinds of motivation we need in this country, if there are no soldiers, then the rate of crime will rocket up high into a malignancy we won’t even think. To conclude this, I say the very best of luck to these young and bright minds that are drifting forth to becoming the protector of lives and properties and into the protector of our great nation Nigeria, they have become the shield against the sinister defence of the enemies. Let us also protect the protectors by paying our taxes and dues regularly so that these our protectors can be well equip to stand firm against absurdities, inhumanity and immoralities that eat their way up into our society. Thank you and have a wonderful evening.” He stepped off the podium and went backstage. “A round of applause for Chief Fredrick as he exits the podium” said the host as he took control of the podium again. “Lets move on to the next phase in our event today” he said further. “I HAVE TO URGENTLY ATTEND TO A MATTER AT HOME” said Chief Fredrick to the Chief Organiser of the event. “Okay, No problem sir, we thank you for the speech” said the Chief Organiser “I am sorry for any hassle this might have cause you, I know I said I will award the graduants, but am sorry” said Chief Fredrick “Not at all sir, I and my co-organisers thank you for delivering the speech perfectly even without preparing for it, thank you sir” replied the Chief Organiser. “You are welcome” said Chief Fredrick and he turned to leave. “Have a safe trip back home” said the Chief Organiser as Chief Fredrick exited the backstage to the parking lot. Fishing out his phone from his pocket, the Chief Organiser called Gen. Audu to inform him that Chief Fredrick is already leaving. “Alright sir” |
CHAPTER 10 “Where are you going and who are you meeting?” asked the gateman “Am going to the Registrar area, I am here for the registration exercise” replied Anthony. “Hmm. What is in the envelope you are carrying then?” asked the gateman again “my certificates, D.O.B, Passport” Anthony said feeling nauseated by the questions “Oh, Okay, You can go” said the gateman. Anthony ran along without saying another word to the gateman. He saw students or cadets both male and female; flowers titivate the left far hand-side of the entrance. He stopped and asked a young guy of his age where the Registrar of the institute is located. “Cross that road and go straight to where you see Trusty Bank, when you take the corner by the right, you have reached the Registrar.” “Thanks, I appreciate” Anthony said as he ran. On getting to the Registrar, he saw three students on the queue, he quickly lined up at the back of the last boy that was on the queue. The boy turned and saw Anothny as his back breathing heavily and covered with sweats. “You are just coming?” the boy asked. “Yes” Anthony replied. “You are lucky, all other people have done their registration and have gone, and the registration is about to end due to the event the school is hosting” said the boy. “My name is Saheed, what’s yours? The boy reiterated as he stretch out his hand to shake Anthony's own “Am Anthony by name” replied Anthony, as he shake Saheed's hand. “You look young Saheed, how old are you?” asked Anthony “Oh” Saheed smiled “Am Eighteen this month” “I see” said Anthony as he was sizing him up. “Will you be able to cope and handle military exercise” asked Anthony Saheed laughed “Is it because am skinny? Don’t think little of me, am super strong, my strength is voluminous” “I see” said Anthony as he smiled They talked about how the current crises in Kaduna especially in Burumburum and Kafanchan Mediumwave Transmitter area of Kaduna where terrorists called Panyabo are kidnapping and bombing people like there is no tomorrow. It all started when the Nigerian Policemen tortured a suspect alleged to be a terrorist in the police station. As they were torturing the suspect, the suspect bite his own tongue and died. This action infuriated the Panyabo Group and they attacked the police station and set it ablaze inorder to set a precedent for other people or security agencies that want to trample on them. From thereon, they started engaging in grand theft, shoplifting and bank robbery, then they graduated to be a full blown terrorist, and started evoking bedlam on the people of Kaduna especially the people inhabiting in the Dorayi Hill area. Many people were killed and mutilated beyond recognition, while some that escaped were only injured. What lead the Panyabo terrorists from robbery to terrorizing the society, nobody knows. There were talks in the society that the Panyabo terrorists are politically motivated, the mind behind the evil deeds are political human-figure, who released some convicts from the prison, off the record or without any trace and gave them machineries and lethal weapons inorder to terrorize the society so that the country will be ungovernable for the current President of Nigeria says a security expert. The Nigeria Security Forces alleged that due to the investigations they were carrying out, they were able to pinpoint the leader of the terrorists group. They went to the house of the suspected leader of the terrorists group and barricaded his house without a warrant and against the fundamental human rights. “How could the Nigerian Security Forces barricade a suspect’s house instead of arresting him? Are they protecting him or what, this country is getting f*cked up.” asked Anthony. “That is unbecoming of the Nigerian Security Forces” Anthony said further “You attest to this also?” asked Saheed. “Next” said the woman behind the laptop looking up to Saheed and Anthony. Saheed quickly ditched his conversation with Anthony and went to meet the lady operating the laptop; he outstretched his certificates to her for verification. 30 minutes later Anthony finished his certificates verification, he and Saheed walked together. |

CHAPTER 10 Gen. Audu was in his bedroom dressing and getting ready for the event today. He wore an army uniform made of quality fabric, and then a rolex wristwatch worth fifty thousand dollars. He was in an angry mood because he had a fight with his wife on the phone. All humanity and pity was lost from him from the day he engage in assassination game. He only got married so as to have a child that will continue his name and family legacy. His wife named Amina Shittima from Borno State is a medical doctor by profession. They both met when Gen. Audu went to the hospital to check the condition of his eye, the doctor that attended to him was Amina. She was in the usual white doctor's robe, she is a lady that possessed slim and elegant body, with dark eyes and also light coloured in complexion, six foot tall, and fancy bead adorned her left hand. Her English was accented and clear, she also has a smooth palm when they both shook hands. She wore smiles on her cheek as she gestured him to seat. “How can I help you sir?" she said “Audu is the name; just call me Audu" Gen. Audu replied. “Okay, how can I help you Audu? “My eye is hurting and itching, I was referred by someone to come to your hospital, that you guys are capable of handling eye issues" “It is true'' she said. After she attended to his eye problems, medicines were prescribed to Gen. Audu by Amina. Gen. Audu looked at Amina like someone who is examining if a clothe will fit him or not. She will make a good wife material he said. He proposed a dinner after her working hours finishes in the night by seven. They visited Kentucky Fried Chicken in Ikara, Kaduna district. Latnoc is a group of assassins both men and women, which is under the control of Gen. Audu. The group was established by Audu when he needed people with agility and capability to carry out his dirty deeds on his behalf. He is clocking fifty years next year February, so he cannot continue running around here and there, it is time for him to rest and make money off the other assassins, and he told himself. He feeds them with the name of the target, their location and supplying schematics and weaponry provisions to them. Picking up the phone Gen. Audu dialed Scorpion phone number. The phone rang three times and then scorpion picked it up. “Boss, Good Afternoon” said Scorpion “Good Afternoon. Chief Fredrick will be on his way to the event, do you have the explosive device with you?” asked Gen. Audu “Yes I do” replied Scorpion “Now listen up, you are to annihilate his bodyguards’ vehicle with the explosive, then you terminate the bastard. Okay” “Okay sir” said Scorpion. 220 MILES AWAY Chief Fredricks’ car was approaching the Iyatawa town, Kaduna District 11 expressway in a normal speed level. Then suddenly Chief Fredrick’s vehicle stopped, he stepped out of the vehicle and was led by his guards as he crossed the expressway and went to the other side of the road. Standing by another vehicle is a bodyguard wearing a blue suit with rolex wristwatch, leather shoes he wore, and greeted as he saw Chief Fredrick coming. “Welcome sir” said the bodyguard “Is this the car?” asked Chief Fredrick “Yes sir and I have already swept the car with bug finder device, sir” replied Chief Fredrick There was no other statement from Chief Fredrick as he entered the car and was driven by the bodyguard with the Rolex wristwatch. Chief Fredrick’s current car sped away in another route, so does his former car sped away in another route by some of his bodyguards. THE SCREEN of the device Scorpion is currently using to track the movement Chief Fredrick’s car beamed with light as the car was getting nearer to him. Holding the device in hand, scorpion wondered why Chief Fredrick’s car had to stop, it might be traffic. Standing beside the road, he looked at his RL-83 Blindicide Bazooka he will use to terminate the bodyguards’ car and the bodyguards themselves. The device in his hand beamed louder, then that was when he saw Chief Fredrick’s car approaching him. He dropped the device on the floor and carried the Bazooka on his shoulder blade and went to stand in the middle of the road obstructing the oncoming car of the bodyguards. The bodyguards’ car swerved when they saw that someone was about to shoot a bazooka at them, but it was too late. As they tried to change route, Scorpion had already positioned the bazooka screen to capture the car and then he released the mayhem that was in the bazooka straight away, the bedlam hit the target. Destroying the bodyguards’ vehicle with the beings in it, there were smoke and flames that almost reached to the sky. Quickly the former Chief Fredrick’s car at the back of the bodyguards’ car tired to turn the car and head elsewhere when he saw the guards’ car has been destroyed, but Scorpion was quick enough to shoot the driver with an ATF semi-automatic pistol to the forehead. Then Scorpion opened the backseat door, but he didn’t find Chief Fredrick there, he opened the car boot, but there was nothing there. Nearly ran mad, Scorpion shouted, other oncoming cars were now retreating when they saw the chaos. Hearing the sound of Police sirens, Scorpion quickly returned to his place of formation, gathered his things, and hopped on the powerbike that was parked behind the bush. “Hello Boss, I didn’t see Chief Fredrick in his car” shouted scorpion in his house. “I am looking at Chief Fredrick right now” replied Gen. Audu “Where is here?” asked Scorpion “He is at the Nigeria Defence Academy’s event currently” replied Gen. Audu “What, how did he manage to, or did that chef tipped him off?” asked Scorpion “Are you asking me? How should I know? Look leave that aside and come here and finish him off” said Gen. Audu “We can’t kill him at the event, it will raise questions, too many questions” said Scorpion “You are going to make it look like he had an heart attack. No guns. No strangling. Just give him a fast effect lethal injection like Iris Flower Venom from India” said Gen. Audu Devilish smile formed on scorpion’s face “Okay sir” |
My People sorry for keeping you guys awaiting.
