The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has thanked the US Secretary of state for the American support of Israel's right to self defense via a phone call. Fighting between Israelis and Palestinians had intensified on Tuesday to the highest levels seen in seven years, as militants fired rockets into Israel and the Israeli military responded with airstrikes in Gaza.
