A 70-year-old man, Simon Alobu, has been arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command, for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in Akpoha Community, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State over the course of three years.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the victim, an orphan, has lived with her aunt in Akpoha town since the death of her parents four years ago.

The victim said that the suspect lured her and her younger brother to his apartment. He then asked them to help him to prepare a meal, part of which he told they would also eat.

“After preparing the Garri (eba), my younger brother said that he did not want to eat and left the room. He immediately locked the door and R@ped me after which he used a razor to make a mark on my B.uttocks,” the girl said.

The victim’s aunt, Mrs. Martha Enya, explained that Alobu first R@ped her niece in 2014 when the victim was just three years old without anybody knowing.

She said, “I became aware of the first assault in November 2014 when the victim complained of pains in her private part, I asked her what happened, but she could not speak out. After examining her, I took her to a hospital in Afikpo where the R@pe was confirmed by doctors and she was given medical treatment.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday, said only candidates who meet the O’ level and A’ level requirements and other criteria set by institutions would be offered admission in 2017/2018.

‎JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated this at a Training and Sensitization Forum on Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for admission offers, candidates and stakeholders on in Abuja.

Three suspected members of the Boko Haram sect have been arrested in Ajao Estate area of Lagos. The suspects were arrested by members of the Hausa Community in Lagos.

The suspected terrorists were hiding among some Hausa acquaintances before they were fished out by the leaders in the area, according to an Islamic cleric, Mohammed Abdullahi, who spoke yesterday during the Isolo Townhall meeting organised by the Lagos State acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi.

The townhall meeting was between the stakeholders in Area D Command and the police held in Isolo.

The Cleric said, “A lot of people think Boko Haram issue is just about the Northeast, but they are mistaken. We have been arresting fleeing Boko Haram members in Lagos. I do not know if it is as a result of the proximity to the airport.

A policeman has allegedly shot to death one Imo Ekanem, a final year student of the Department of Mass Communication, Uyo City Polytechnic, Nduetong Oku, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, over the victim’s refusal to give N100 bribe.

The deceased who was searched, but when nothing incriminating was found on him by one of the policemen attached to the special squad the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, sent to the area to confront recurrent cult activities, the Police Officer asked for bribe. An eyewitness, Usung Simeon told Punch that when he refused to, he was shot dead.

Simeon said,

“He was shot dead after a heated argument with one of the policemen. Because the activities of the cultists are always carried out with the use of motorbikes, the police have been conducting stop-and-search operations.

So, they just stopped him and subjected him to a search, but nothing was found on him. We were surprised that the police demanded for N100 bribe. His refusal to part with the money infuriated one of the policemen, who cocked his gun and shot him at close range.”

The presidency has confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari has been scheduled to address the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in the United States.

The UNGA is taking place on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
