As a result of the completion of the acquisition of Intercontinental Bank Plc by Access Bank Plc, the bank on Friday terminated the employment of about 1, 500 employees of Intercontinental Bank. Also, it was gathered that the bank shut down some branches of Intercontinental Bank nationwide. A visit by our correspondent to two of Intercontinental Bank’s branches in Ibafo Area and Ikeja confirmed the report. The branches were shut with only security personnel talking to customers. When asked why the bank did not open, one of the security personnel told our correspondent that the network was down and directed our correspondent to another Intercontinental branch. It was learnt that the sacked employees were served with their disengagement letters on Friday. When contacted, the Head, Corporate Affairs Department, Access Bank, Mr. Austin Edoja, confirmed that some branches had been shut down, but declined to give further comment, saying, “We will issue a release on that later.” Our correspondent learnt that the action was taken by Access Bank with an eye to reducing overheads. Access Bank and Intercontinental are expected to fuse into one entity by March 2012, and the closure of some branches of Intercontinental Bank is seen by analysts as a step in that direction. Already, Intercontinental Bank branches are being rebranded in Access Bank colours, in preparation for the completion of the merger process in March, which will leave Access Bank as the surviving entity. According to a statement by Access Bank to the Nigerian Stock Exchange in December, Intercontinental Bank Plc will cease to exist by March 2012. The statement said the merger of business would be effected through a Scheme of Merger pursuant to Part XII of the Investments and Securities Act (No 29) of 2007. Access Bank said it had earlier envisaged that the merger process would take between 18 and 24 months, adding that it was able to fast-track the process due to a number of factors ranging from the pre-merger integration process and the support of stakeholders. The statement read, “We are pleased that this acceleration has been made possible by the success of our pre-merger integration processes leading to the achievement of key milestones well ahead of initial target dates. “This has been assisted by the high level of cooperation and support received from all stakeholders to date. The acceleration has also been necessitated by the successful completion of change of control at the parent as well as subsidiary levels of Intercontinental Bank.” https://thewilfreds.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Access-banks-150x150.jpg See further discussions on this topic here: http://www.thewilfreds.com/2012/01/why-did-access-bank-sack-1500-intercontinental-bank-workers/ |
^^^One out of the very many problems of higher education in Nigeria is that our young school leavers no longer seek for advise and guide. Ever wonder how many times (if at all) or when last a student have ever visited the guidance counseling units of their various schools? They only do so (basically the girls) when they accidentally get pregnant. Our students need to develop the mindset of asking constructive questions as regards to their future career. Thank God there is now a free, dedicated and reliable online consultant who manage this in Nigeria. rx steve: Acidosis:Well from what you can see, the news posted above could not be edited because NL restricted a lot of editing features. The moderator who approved this topic even got it all wrong by deleting the edited copy(with good pictures) of it than delete the copies with picture errors. But if I may ask, why is it that some Nigerians only spot the faults Good morning any way. See full details of well edited copies and pictures in the link. |

Everyday must not be a day of bad reports, there is time for everything says the Lord. Nigeria is indeed a blessed country, full of amazing and wonderful people of God. God almighty bestowed his blessings on us right from day one. once upon a time about 23 years old, a "four-in-one" quadruplets was delivered in the Ogunsanya's family, today they are graduates. You see God has many ways of blessing and surprising his people, away from the admission saga in the country. To the hardship that surrounds most households. One would wonder how this set of "four-in-one" babies (now adult though) had passed JAMB same day, Post UTME same day, gotten admission same day, passed all their examinations (without carry overs) and finally had their convocation same day. What a wonderful God! <img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1653" title="Nigerian-quadruplets2" src="http://thewilfreds.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Nigerian-quadruplets2.jpg" alt="Nigerian-quadruplets" width="634" height="425" /> Just recently the 23-year-old quads, 2 identical sisters, and of course the oldest by 4 minutes-Toks & Temi and 2 identical brothers Tobi & Tolu graduated from Warwick University with master degrees. And there was not a jot of sibling rivalry as all four have landed jobs in the City already! 'The fact we all chose to study at the University of Warwick was a natural decision,' says Tobi, who thinks a bit of sibling rivalry is essential for success. 'We are a close-knit family and were all attracted by the strength of the courses on offer. 'We all gravitated to similar courses because we've always been interested in business and management and our father is a successful businessman in Nigeria.' The have all been employed, read full gist to find out more. Source: http://www.thewilfreds.com/2012/01/happy-convocation-to-nigerian-quadruplets-born-same-day-graduates-same-day/ |

A 45 year old man (names withheld) from Idundu in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State has been arrested by the state Police Command, for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter and putting her in a family way. A police officer, who simply identified himself as Sergeant Eni, said the randy man was arrested at Idundu axis of Akpabuyo council, while attempting to escape. But the suspect, denied being responsible for the pregnancy, claiming that he never had unprotected sex with the 17-year-old daughter. He said: “Any time I want to sleep with her, I must use condom so that she will not get pregnant.” He admitted that the girl was his biological daughter but said, “man no be wood. How can my wife go to market to buy goods that she is selling, and stay there for two or three weeks.” He, however, blamed his inglorious act on his wife, who he claimed was always travelling and staying away for weeks, starving him of sex. Narrating her ordeal, the victim said trouble started some months ago, when the father approached her at night and pleaded with her to sleep with him. She said she resisted but her father became forceful, manhandled her and threatened to kill her, if she did not give in. http://www.thewilfreds.com/2012/01/police-reprimand-man-for-impregnating-his-17-year-old-daughter/ |

I recently launched my new blog (www.thewilfreds.com), and have gotten about 120 post topics/contents. I applied to adsense last wee and was temporarily accepted. However google told me i was not approved due to unacceptable site content. I was wondering what could be the cause. I tried to figure out but seem not to be able to figure out what exactly is the cause. I need your help dear fellow Nigerian. Please help me review the site and tell me what to do. God/Allah will bless you for that. Any suggestion will be welcome also. Wilfred. |
