That Afrobeat maestro, Femi Kuti, is nominated for the 52nd edition of the Grammy Awards is no longer news. What is news is that as the world witnesses the largest gathering of some of the best musicians on Sunday our own local boy Femi Kuti will be flying high out green and white flag.
He will be slugging it out in the World Music Album category with the likes of Amadou & Mariam of Mali, Béla Fleck, Oumou Sangare and Omar Sosa.

Femi is currently signed to Mercer Street Records alongside his compatriot Asa. This is Femi’s second Grammy nomination.

Femi is one of the most remarkable performers from the African continent and has built a steady career since forming his positive force band over two decades ago.

His first Grammy nomination was in 2003 for the critically acclaimed album, Fight to Win. He lost the prize to Ruben blade from Mundo.

Sunny Ade and Femi kuti are the only indigenous Nigerians to have been nominated for the Grammy’s.

Nigerian born artistes who have won the award in the past are Helen Folasade Adu (who first achieved the success in the 1980s as the frontwoman and lead vocalist of the popular Brit and Grammy Award winning English group) and Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel (who was born on February 19, 1963 in Paddington London). Both are British citizens.
The nominations have been announced on Wednesday and favorites include Beyonce, with ten noms, Taylor Swift, with 8, the Black Eyed Peas, 7 and Lady Gaga, 5, as Billboard can confirm.

This year’s nominations have been subject to a different set of rules as the award ceremony itself will take place on a different day than in previous years. The most important of them was that the eligibility period was cut short, from October 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009, so that the Grammy falls in the first, awards heavy first months of the year.

With August 31 being the final date, Whitney Houston’s much hyped comeback, “I Look to You,” rushed out on the same day, barely made it in time for the nominations. Yet it was completely overlooked, with neither Whitney nor the album making the cut for any category, the music oriented publication points out.

On the other hand, Beyonce is the strongest contender of the night, with nods in three major categories, including Album of the Year for “I Am… Sasha Fierce,” Song of the Year for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” and Record of the Year for “Halo.”

Country singer and recently the entire world’s favorite artist Taylor Swift is not far behind, with eight nominations. Lady Gaga is also holding strong, as noted above, with five nominations, including three in the same top categories as Beyonce – which can only mean that competition will be stiff. Other heavy contenders are Kanye West and Maxwell (6 nominations each), and Jay Z and David Guetta (5 nominations each).

Rick-Genest;No doubt! I’m astonished by Rick Genest’s intense facial tattoo; perhaps, he was the scariest human head I’ve ever encountered in my life! His facial tattoo was said to be crafted by the chaps at ‘derm fx tattoo’ in Montreal. Indeed, the extreme facial modification has turned him into a freak man! Funny, most people said that he has the most interesting facial outlook!

The Enigma;Paul Lawrence is a well-known sideshow performer, actor and musician, and in 1992, he began to get his body tattooed. According to him, to date, over 200 tattoo artists have tattooed his body. He was seen to undergo extensive body modifications. This includes multiple body piercings, horn implants and ear reshaping. His entire body is fully covered with jigsaw-puzzle tattoo, making him a cool and freak guy!

The Illustrated Lady; Julia Gnuse, who is better known as the illustrated lady, was born with a skin condition called porphyria.  This condition causes her skin to blister frequently when exposed to sunlight. As the way to cover the scars resulting from blistering, she began getting tattoos applied all over her affected areas. The tattoo has covered up almost 95% of her body, and she is now regarded as the world’s most tattooed woman.

[b]World's Most Pierced Woman;[/b]In 2009, Elaine Davidson, of Edinburgh, Scotland, had a record-breaking for adorning her body with 6,005 piercings (including 1,500 internal piercings), earning her the Guinness Book of World Records for the title of “the world’s most pierced woman.” When first accredited the “Most Heavily Pierced” title by a Guinness World Record official in May 2,000, Brazilian-born nurse Elaine Davidson had a mere 462 piercings- 192 of which were in her face. By August 9, 2001, she had a total piercing of 720.  She’s also wearing jewelries as heavy as 3kg in different parts of her body. Medical experts warn that excessive piercing can be health hazard and they said Elaine Davidson is prone to infection in and around the area of the piercings. Furthermore, they consider Elaine Davidson to be at higher risk of blood-borne diseases such as HIV and hepatitis, which are feared to be spread by reusing needles.

[b]Lizard Man;[/b]Gawking at Erik Sprague’s green (or a Lizard man), tattooed face, sharpened teeth, full-body tattoo of green scales, forked-tongue, green-inked lips and sub dermal implants, you might be surprising to find this cool guy has entailed an estimated 700 hours of tattoo procedure. When you look at this man behind the green scales- and let’s face it, he was a former Ph.D. candidate in philosophy who has written “Once More Through the Modified Looking Glass.” And if you’re wondering how he’ll feel about himself when he reaches 80, then the answer is amazing, yes, he’d get himself an alligator tail graft.

[b]Look Like Quen Nefertiti:[/b]Spending about a quarter of a million dollars on 51 plastic surgeries procedures, Nileen Namita has finally fulfilled her dream to become an ancient Egyptian Queen- Queen Nefertiti. She spent over 20 years to turn her look to be resembled to a fantastical look of Queen Nefertiti. In her plastic surgeries, she had got three chin implants, two lip surgeries, five eye surgeries, eight nose job done, along with other minor tweaks.

At the age of 23, he started to surgically transform his body with tiger-stripe tattoos. He said that his belief in a very old Huron Tradition has driven him to transform himself into his totem, a tiger.

(2)Once, tiger lady was said to get married with Paul Lawrence, the Enigma. She then got divorced with the enigma, and now, she’s working at a tattoo shop situated in Austin, Texas. Not only does her body take a tattoo theme of a tiger, she also wears tiger whiskers attached by piercings on her face.

(3)Without doubt, Etienne Dumont is the most tattooed living art I’ve ever seen. This guy had his head to toe covered with the most vivid tattoos, giving him a remarkable appearance. The silicon implants beneath his skin giving him a sense of a horned impression. He also had 2.7 inch rings in each of his earlobe and plexiglass piercings through the nose and beneath his bottom lip, making him such an incredible look!

(4)Kala Kawai is an amazing Hawaiian mutant, who had 67 piercings in total with 75% of his body being tattooed to an awkward look. He had his earlobes stretched to 4 inches. Yuck! He inserted various silicon implants on his head, and generally his look appears to be a bit scary, making me feeling sick!
