Politics › Amid Pantami Terrorism Revelations, U.S. Issues Third-level Alert by Winnerforever(op): 11:18pm On Apr 23, 2021 |
Amid revelations of Isa Pantami’s terrorism links to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban and sympathy for Boko Haram, the American government has issued a third-level alert, warning its citizens to reconsider travelling to Nigeria.
Mr Pantami is a minister of communications and digital economy under President Muhammadu Buhari. Despite public opprobrium, Mr Pantami has refused to resign while Mr Buhari has glossed over the issue reiterating his confidence in the minister.
Worried about the worsening violent acts of terrorism and banditry in the country amid Mr Buhari regime’s failure to rein in the country’s protracted insecurity, the United States government reissued a third-level alert to Americans regarding travelling to Nigeria.
It warned, “Terrorists continue plotting and carrying out attacks in Nigeria, especially in the Northeast. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting shopping centres, malls, markets, hotels, places of worship, restaurants, bars, schools, government installations, transportation hubs, and other places where crowds gather. Terrorists are known to work with local gangs to expand their reach.”
The level-three alert specifically warns Americans to reconsider coming to Nigeria, just a step below the highest point, level four. It was issued on April 20.
Concerning violent crimes in Nigeria, the U.S. government warned its citizens that violent crime such as armed robbery, assault, carjacking, kidnapping, hostage-taking, banditry, and rape “is common throughout the country.”
Specifically, it warned that kidnappings for ransom frequently “occur, often targeting dual national citizens who have returned to Nigeria for a visit,” as well as U.S. citizens with perceived wealth.
It also noted that there “is civil unrest and low-level armed militancy in parts of southern Nigeria,” especially in the Niger Delta region, citing armed criminality, including kidnapping and maritime crime.
A previous travel warning was issued on March 16, 2021, directing its citizens to “reconsider travel to Nigeria due to COVID-19, crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and maritime crime. Some areas have increased risk.”

Politics › Nigerian Army Evacuates All Soldiers From Military Camp In Niger by Winnerforever(op): 1:45pm On Apr 23, 2021 |
The Nigerian Army has shut down a military camp in Zagzaga community, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State after another attack by bandits.
The gunmen had on Wednesday invaded the military camp and engaged the soldiers in a gun battle, set a military vehicle ablaze, while the food store in the camp was burnt.
While no soldier was confirmed to have died during the attack, one officer was said to be missing.
The soldiers however moved out of the community in what the secretary to the state government, Ibrahim Matene, called a “tactical withdrawal”.
Hours after they moved out, it was learnt that the bandits launched coordinated attacks on communities in the area, kidnapping over 15 persons.
Communities affected in the fresh attacks Wednesday night are Zagzaga, Zhani, Guni and Maraban Daudu.
In March, a military base in Allawa and Basa, Shiroro Local Government was attacked by bandits who killed five soldiers and a mobile policeman.

Politics › One Million Isa Pantamis Can’t Stop Christianity In North Nigeria by Winnerforever(op): 1:37pm On Apr 23, 2021 |
The General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries, Auchi, Edo State, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has criticised the Nigerian government over its handling of the alleged terrorists’ affiliation of the Minister of
Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, saying a million Pantamis, however, cannot stop the spread of Christianity in northern Nigeria.
Suleman, in a veiled reference to the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, added that Nigerians are counting days to the exit of a failed system and “we will survive.”
He stated on Twitter, “One million 'Patanmis' cannot stop the spread of christianity In northern Nigeria or anywhere for that matter. Divisive mentality and separatist ideology can never produce good governance.
We are counting days to the exit of a failed system. We have survived, we will survive..”
As many individuals and groups insist on the resignation of Pantami, over his pro-Taliban links, the Presidency on Thursday defended the minister, saying he would not be sacked.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement stated that Pantami’s ordeal in the hands of those calling for his sacking was not about his past utterances but about his current job as a minister.
The Presidency also aligned itself with the submission of the embattled minister that he was young when he made those statements and that his position had since changed.
In videos from the 2000s, Pantami, who is a known Islamic scholar, had said that while he was against the extremist anti-western ideologies of Boko Haram, he supported some of what Al-Qaeda and Taliban had preached.
But the presidency’s statement partly reads, “The Minister has, rightly, apologised for what he said in the early 2000s. The views were absolutely unacceptable then, and would be equally unacceptable today, were he to repeat them. But he will not repeat them – for he has publicly and permanently condemned his earlier utterances as wrong.
“In the 2000s, the Minister was a man in his twenties; next year he will be 50. Time has passed, and people and their opinions – often rightly – change. But all discerning Nigerians know this manufactured dispute is nothing to do with the Minister’s prior words, but solely concern his actions in the present
“This administration is committed to improving the lives of all Nigerians – and that includes ensuring they are not over-charged or under-protected for those services on which modern life depends.
“In two short years, Minister Pantami has driven the contribution of the ICT sector to the GDP to more than 18 percent, making it one of the top two playing a critical role in the emergence of the economy from the COVID 19-induced recession.”

Sir Nnamdi Kanu, Good morning Sir. I am a nice man with a wise heart, and I love peace. Please I have this to tell you Sir. Please what is the development plan you have for the East? If you have development plan for the East, why not start it now so that the East will be refreshed. I know you have seen some things you don't like in Nigeria and God still loves Nigeria, and I know you want good security for the East, but I have not yet seen your other development plan executed in the East. What I mean about development plan includes: Food production or farming system for the East, Waste disposal system, Employment system, road network system, water flow/gutter system/erosion control system, electricity system, pipeborne water system, estate management/building system, road transport system, politeness system, tout or thug management system, crime management system. I truly know these task are not child's play, but please Sir, you can start little by little. I believe it is better to start early. God bless Nnamdi Kanu. God bless everyone. God bless Nigerians. God bless Nigeria. Lol, development plan when Fulani are taken over our farms and Chinese are taking over our oil wells and gas deposits ? We need to remove all the terrorists, criminals, 419 governors, herdsmen, kidnappers, ritualists, cultists and robbers ; then we can focus on rebuilding our societies in peace. |
