PoliticsRe: Why Military Option To Biafra Will Be A Misadventure by Winnerforever: 2:53pm On May 09, 2021
kettykin:
Nigeria will probably borrow loans to fund its military operations, the loans will be used to purchase APC carriers, military planes, ammunitions, rifles etc. These would eventually be captured by boko haram in their swift ambushes and the borrowed money ends up with the enemy.

But on the biafran front I think all that needs to be done is simply withdrawing police and soldiers to the barracks and barnish herdsmen from the bush. This will stop the attacks and ease tension gradually. The esn and ugm will have no other option than to find something else to do.
The danger is when a third party is tempted to get involved and starts arming ESN with deadlier weapons. Eventually it becomes a full blown war and the army is fighting on two fronts.

Let's see.

"Vanguard Newspaper will pay N10 million naira as fine for carrying Nnamdi Kanu's open letter to the US president"....Lai Mohammed.

The Minister of information and culture has accused Vanguard Newspaper of supporting IPOB and vowed to sanction them.

He said this while reacting to the report that the USA have rejected Nigeria's request for the US African military command to be shifted to Nigeria. Lai Mohammed claimed that the letter from Nnamdi Kanu caused it.

"Nnamdi kanu is our problem in this country and he is the one sponsoring Boko Haram and bandits. How could we be begging for the US African military command to be relocated to Nigeria yet Kanu went ahead to write the US president an open letter?

Now look at what he has caused. He is the headache we are having here.

We are going to teach Vanguard newspaper a lesson for publishing that letter. They are now supporting IPOB and the call for the division of our great nation, he stated.

Copied!

Yes, the more soldiers that die the merrier, to hell with their families. If our families cannot have peace then they will never know peace themselves.

You can not killed military men and go to sleep peacefully. These men have families, wives and children and relatives waiting for them at home.

Or you did not know that the peaceful Endsars protesters had families, wives, and children? Your hypocrisy is disgusting.

PoliticsOver 25 Nigerian Soldiers Have So Far Been Killed In Orlu Battle by Winnerforever(op): 7:26am On May 09, 2021
Family Writers Press International can authoritatively confirmed that over twenty five (25) Nigerian soldiers as at press time, have so far lost their lives in a battle at Orlu, Imo State, Biafraland, within the last forty eight (48) hours.

Intelligence gathered from a reliable source, has it that the deployed Nigerian soldiers have been engaged in fierce confrontations since hostility began. Reports of engagement have completely been censored. Recall that within the past few days, truck loads of the Nigerian soldiers with heavy weaponry, were moved to Orlu, to kill, maim and destroy.

Many unarmed, innocent civilians have been subjected to days of grueling dehumanization and summary executions by the soldiers, under the guise of searching for "Unknown Gunmen" and the Operatives of Eastern Security Network (ESN). This militarization policy of the Nigerian government in Imo State, stemmed from the support and the encouragement of rascality, terroristic and vampiric activities of Fulani killer herdsmen that have killed many citizens and destroyed unquantifiable number of properties.

The Nigerian security forces on the other hand, have engaged in the relentless and unprovoked killing of Biafrans which precipitated the emergence of the Eastern Security Network and the unknown gunmen, to stand in defence of justice and the rights of the helplessly oppressed indigenous people.

The general public has so unfortunately, been forced to believe in the concocted and grossly biased Nigerian media reportage of the exact developments arising from the ongoing hostilities. Why has the Nigerian military blatantly order a total blackout of media publication of it's own casualties in the fight if not to shield the truth and float a punctured propaganda?

It is shamefully despicable that the totally terrorists'-ravaged North by Boko Haram, Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), bandits and herdsmen, all of Fulani stock, has been abandoned by the Nigerian military, only to flood down to the East (Biafraland), a relatively peaceful region, to flex muscles against the civilian populace. How the whole episode will eventually end, remains to be seen but let it be noted that the Nigerian army is daily, suffering censored casualties, with a number of it's equipment equally destroyed.

PoliticsNigeria - Rethinking Diplomacy With The Postcolonial World - By John Campbell by Winnerforever(op): 9:36pm On May 08, 2021
American diplomacy currently fails to recognize the diffuse nature of power in Nigeria and other postcolonial states, says John Campbell, Ralph Bunche senior fellow for Africa policy studies at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, in his new book, Nigeria and the Nation-State: Rethinking Diplomacy With the Postcolonial World.

“Nigeria matters to the United States and to the world . . . with its already huge and rapidly growing population—estimated to become the third largest in the world by the end of the century—it is only going to become more, not less, important,” writes Campbell. “A productive relationship will require a reassessment of who U.S. diplomats should talk to, what they should focus on, and how they should assess and carry out their responsibilities.”

In the book, Campbell traces the fractured colonial history, contemporary ethnic conflicts, and political corruption that define Nigeria today. He argues that Nigeria is not—and never has been—a conventional nation-state. U.S. diplomats should focus more on working with traditional, religious, and local leaders where real power often rests, and less with foreign ministries and weak heads of state.

“In making [the] assumption—that Nigeria, for all its differences, still behaves like a nation-state—American policy makers and diplomats tend to overlook the dysfunctional relationship between the Abuja government and parts, maybe most, of the Nigerian public,” notes Campbell.

The book inspires “a rethink with respect to our own preconceptions and assumptions about how other countries function, especially postcolonial states, in Africa and elsewhere.” The author warns: “As we have learned in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, the consequences for misunderstanding the internal dynamics of a country—and not just how it fits into our foreign-policy goals—can be disastrous.”

“To engage effectively with Nigeria—and with any state—requires a grasp of its past,” says Campbell. “The Western idea of a nation-state presupposes a kind of relationship between the government and the governed that is often absent in postcolonial, multiethnic countries dominated by rapacious elites.”

Campbell offers four lessons for U.S. diplomacy toward Nigeria:

1. History matters, especially as remembered by religions and ethnic groups. “Nigeria’s history is characterized by colonialism, military rule, and incomplete modernization, which in turn leads to unresolved tensions among the nations, tribes, clans, and communities that make it up.”

2. Conventional thinking that all states are nation-states will not do. These assumptions, “uncritically applied by American political leaders to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam, have contributed to America’s foreign-policy failures.”

3. A different kind of engagement with postcolonial, multiethnic states is needed. “Nigeria shows that a diplomatic focus on capitals is no longer good enough. Instead, a more decentralized approach that reaches subnational political, religious, and ethnic leaders is increasingly necessary to build a productive partnership,” Campbell argues. The U.S. embassy and consulate in Nigeria must “expand their contacts with increasingly

4. Humility and self-reflection are in order. “Too much criticism is based on the expectation that Nigeria and other developing countries ought to act more like conventional, modern nation-states. The limitations imposed by history are ignored.”

The author advises the United States to “support the unity of Nigeria, even if it is loose, even chaotic.” He warns: “The alternative, a breakup of Nigeria into ethnically denominated polities, would be a humanitarian disaster, almost certainly involving the United States in ways difficult to foresee.”

“Nigeria deserves a rethink. So, too, do other postcolonial countries,” concludes Campbell. “The accelerating decentralization of political power in Nigeria suggests that U.S. engagement, too, should include state, local, and traditional centers of powers.”

Politics"You Are Idi Amin Of The North"– Ohanaeze Ndigbo Tackles El-rufai by Winnerforever(op): 7:40pm On May 08, 2021
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has condemned the statement credited to the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, that the South-East region will not get the 2023 Presidency by insulting and threatening other Nigerians.

In a statement on Friday by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the group described El-Rufai's assertion as "idiotic and laughable."

It stated that the 2023 Igbo presidency belonged to the Igbo and the Kaduna State governor should stop blackmailing the region and focus on the security challenges confronting his state.

El-Rufai spoke during a webinar organised by the Africa Leadership Group and tagged "Developing a Viable Nation 2". Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House hosted the event.

El-Rufai, while responding to a question about why someone of Igbo extraction had not become Nigeria's president yet, had said, "I don't think anyone has stopped the South-East from going for the Presidency. But you see, you cannot get the Presidency of Nigeria by threats or by shouting victimhood. This is a political process, and you have to engage other parts of Nigeria to convince them to support you.

"I think the South-East is going about it the wrong way because if you look at the APC (All Progressives Congress), for instance, we do not have many footprints in the South-East."

But the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, said, "Nigerians are aware of the backstage activities of Gov El Rufai as the 'Idi Amin of the North', whose interest is contradictory to the Northern collective interests.

"He is only pushing the selfishness of the few cabals deceiving President Muhammadu Buhari without any solution to the insecurity challenges in the north and now spreading in the south. We urge El Rufai to fix the Kaduna State insecurity challenges before discussing the 2023 elections.

"Southeast is not alone in the secessionist movements. We have seen Oduduwa and Middle belt ethnic groups displaying flags of Oduduwa and Middle belt nations, as both groups are in the same self-determination struggle as the Igbos.

"We are aware that in1999, Nigerians voted for Yoruba presidency based on the injustices meted against MKO Abiola which brought Obasanjo Presidency. We are aware that Niger delta struggles brought former President Jonathan to power in 2011.

"We are also aware that Gov El Rufai and other northerners used the Northern insurgency to push President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2015. It's time to use the 2023 Igbo Presidency project to end the Biafra agitation, as any attempt by El-Rufai and co-travellers to blackmail Igbos with secessionist movements is dead on arrival."

PoliticsNigeria Has Worst Tap Water Quality In The World by Winnerforever(op): 2:08pm On May 08, 2021
Nigeria has the worst tap water quality in the world, says the Water Price Index report by Holidu.

“Innsbruck, Austria has the highest tap water quality score, followed by Helsinki, Finland and Vienna, Austria. Lagos, Nigeria has the lowest, followed by Karachi, Pakistan and Dakar, Senegal,” said the report.

According to Holidu, the study revealed the differences in price for tap and bottled water in over 100 cities worldwide, including local indicators of tap water quality and water stress.

A typical affordable bottle of 500ml water cost the most in Oslo (Norway) at €1.52 and cost the least in Beirut (Lebanon) at €0.03, said the report.

Comparing prices across several brand-name waters, according to the study, Oslo still has the most expensive bottled water in the index, costing 194.90 per cent more than the global median, followed by Tel Aviv (Israel) (+123.90 per cent) and New York (U.S.) (+76.42 per cent).

Istanbul (Turkey) instead has the cheapest across brands, costing 69.43 per cent less than the median price, followed by Naples (-67.45 per cent) and Milan, Italy (-51.25 per cent).

“Osloites also pay the most for tap water, at 212.24 per cent more than the global median, followed by people in San Francisco, USA (+183.60 per cent) and Stuttgart, Germany (+164.78 per cent).

“Citizens in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia pay the least, at 98.17 per cent less than the median price, followed by Cairo, Egypt (-96.30 per cent) and Karachi, Pakistan (-95.71 per cent),” it said.

According to Akinbode Oluwafemi, Deputy Executive Director at Environmental Rights Action, Lagos, as of 2018, has three major waterworks and 48 others classified as either mini or macro waterworks.

“Most of them are comatose, dysfunctional or at best operating far below installed capacities. Lagos has a network of 180 km transmission mains and 2.215 km distribution mains, of which some are as old as 108 years,” he stated.

Mr Oluwafemi further explained, “Water and sanitation are not only critical elements in public health but also in bolstering sustainable development and economic growth. However, systemic neglect and bent deals by successive managers of the Lagos infrastructure have put the sector in dire straits.

“And even though Lagos’s previous and current governments have exploited the repair of the water infrastructure as a major campaign rhetoric, access is getting worse.”
