Thanks a lot @vcole.

We just finally sorted Internet and phone parole.

vcole:
welcome. Yes, I would advice you get a stroller and a bunting bag which looks like the photo below. Also, a snowsuit for your baby is recommended. You can also get a car seat cover as shown in the photo since she can't sit upright in a stroller just yet but personally, I prefer the bunting bag because it could fit in both a car seat and stroller.

( sorry cant find the "submit" when the post is too long)

We slept over in a hotel. Montreal to Edmonton was 4hours.

No much questions asked by immigration in Montreal... I declared the goods we had with us. We didn't spend more than 10 mins at the immigration stand.

The in flight entertainment on Turkish Airlines is excellent... movie wise. And we got some small small goodie packs. Baby even got hers too. The food was good.

Air hostess/host speak not so good english...
We've done our SIN and health card. Opened accounts at Scortia bank. Just PR card pending and child care benefit.

I have an infant who is 3 months old and would appreciate advise from other mums on the best way to move around with an infant in this weather. Been using a baby carrier buy she's not a fan and always fussy. Do I need to get stroller?

Thanks a lot. yes i v gotten my SIN. i ll just wait for 7 days which will be on saturday and then call CIC.

AZeD1:
One of the reasons for this was because the officer who attended to you, didn't finish the "check in" process. (it was what happened to me because I landed in Quebec). You should call CIC and they'll help you.

Have you gotten your SIN number?

In my case, I called, was told to wait 7 days, after 7 days I called and was transferred to immigrations. The person I spoke with took the officer's who attended to me numbers (it's on your COPR) and made a note for the officer.
The officer called me like a day later to tell me he had completed the process.

Cant really say have not been here up to 2 months sef, for me am single and its about the job so its downtown..its really nice around jasper.
avenue

Not also sure of work from home , but you can search online...

Edmonton has an LRT for trains and a good bus system..but its rough compared to Ottawa ..rough as in lots of walking from bus or station to your house..so living near a station or bus is better.

I think Canada is generally safe..may be you need extra precautions. but dont worry too much on safety

All the best
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by winter(f): 3:34pm On Feb 07, 2018
@Fusion23

Pls what areas of Edmonton would you consider safe and family friendly? Not so busy yet not so quiet? With a supermarket, hospital nearby... How is the transit system?
Do you have any clues on "work from home jobs"? I am still on self maternity leave.

We will be landing next month with a newborn by God's grace.

Hi, don't know if your question has been answered but I found this link that summarizes my thoughts.

quote author=winter post=64642640]Hello everyone,

I and my husband got our COPR last year and just successfully added our new born baby.

Please I need insight into settling in Edmonton. What area of Edmonton would be best to settle in with a newborn baby. Are there any info we should be aware of? How easy or not is it to get those work from home jobs for myself. I dont intend to start full time work at the moment.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by winter(f): 6:20am On Jan 31, 2018
I think you can only add a new family member (if that makes sense) the way we did.

I think your application will be rejected if you inform them of a family member who existed b4 COPR but was not stated in your application. All existing family members I believe should be stated in one's application b4 COPR whether going to Canada or not.

Pls anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

codebrew85:
Wow. Thank you so much for your feedback. I never thought one could add a dependant after receiving COPR. I initially thought one would have to go through the family sponsorship route to do that instead. @ the bolded, that's pretty fast.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by winter(f): 11:53pm On Jan 30, 2018
Yes we did return our visas back to VO.
New visas were issued and old ones cancelled.
We sent the passports with required docs (copy of birth certificate, additional family information, copy of data page, generic form and medicals)

Got a mail after 1 week that baby's visa was ready. So we sent baby's intl passport and passport photos as requested.

codebrew85:
Hi, congrats on your new born baby. Please, if I may ask, did you return your visas back to the VO in order to include your new born's application? I would like to know how you went about it.

Number 3 was true for me. I was in the pool and had to open a new profile to get Ontario NOI.

But finally did not go through the PNP route.

Emmasonic4me:
Congratulations dear.

1. Please what do you think is my fate at 427? Should I be looking at PNP route?

2. It appears peeps that get ONIP are usually a few points away from the prevalent cutoff point. Considering the recent trend, what's the chance of getting NOI from Ontario?

3. Can you clarify the speculation of having to recreate a profile to be able to get Ontario's NOI? So many people claim its valid ( that is, newly created profile usually get nominated against older profiles) but hardly tender facts to prove it.

I hope your emotions will allow you respond to me oooo

Thanks very much

vcole:
layer up as much as possible for landing....for example, body suit, pants, sweater, another pair of pants, hat, gloves, socks, booties then a jacket. When you land, you can buy a snow suit for the baby that you can zip her in and it keeps em really warm. However don't fret too much, you most likely won't come in contact with the elements for long on arrival.

Considering asking for a remark. Pls what is the time frame for the remark results? Just want to know to weigh my options.
Thanks guys

Thanks for sharing your landing experience.

I have a baby who is less than 2 months and we looking at landing in Canada next month.

How did you manage your baby's clothing given the weather in Canada? As per the cover up...

Will send you a pm

cathymia:
Greetings from Calgary! And Happy New Year everyone...

Moved over from the other thread post PPR, our application was delayed at the dreaded London visa office over 6months

Landed a month ago (on the first holiday snow day in December) Eeek! With my husband and 3 month old , other than a stomach bug that started just as we left Lagos, baby was super well behaved (thank God for pacifiers)

I hardly remember running into customs at the airport, cos check-in was a breeze (1 duffel bag with food stuff), weighed 5check in and 4hand luggage bags accurately from home, so no reshuffling..

Flight was great, layover in Amsterdam for 6/7hours and then to Calgary

Landing procedure didn't take more than 5mins after waiting in a short queue, declared $10k +, and all food stuff so I think that helped, also printed a goods to follow form ready when they asked...

We had a friend help us check out an apartment, filled out the application and all, only to find out while in transit that she declined our application cos we didn't have jobs (though my friend had told her we are new PR immigrants before she sent us the application),anyways, we found another place just before Christmas..

1st January: Had to go get formula for my lil'lady and decided to go with the bus for the first time since I was going alone (we had been uber-ing around with the baby cos of subzero temperatures)
Needed to get 2 buses there...planned the journey with Google Maps...the first bus was delayed 40mins!!!, this should have been a good time to go back to our warm flat, but I was determined (BTW, did I mention it was -20degrees with wind chill of about -35?)
Second bus was delayed another 20mins...at that point I was sure I was going to freeze to death...my fingers were freezing in my gloves! Got to the store and wandered around to get warm, bought the formula and decided Uber cos I cannot come and kill myself, got my phone out, and the battery just drained suddenly from 60%...
Stood by the exit asking people to help with uber so I give them cash, but most people have cars hence no uber app, finally got a Congolese guy who was kind enough to get me home, thank God...a 30mins store run took about 4hours...oh well, got a story out of it...

So far, so good...we have met with settlement and career advisors with different agencies while applying for jobs...general advice has mostly been NETWORKING! Based on this, I have revived my LinkedIn account smiley

Would really appreciate advice from those who have settled in who might have an idea of /leads for paid or unpaid internships in the public health/ not for profit sector and Architecture as well...

No you do not need to get a reference letter from every place you've worked for the past 10 years. Just reference from the positions you are claiming points for.

talk2jt:
Hi guys,

I need to ask a question. When I was filling my EE profile, I only put the work experience I claimed points for. I was told post ITA, I will have to list all the places I have worked in the last 10years. Does this mean I have to get a reference letter from all of them? I haven't gotten ITA yet but I'm trying to put all my documents together. Thanks a lot guys.

Hello. Being refused admission is different from being refused a visa. You can be issued a visa and at POE be refused entrance. The answer should be NO if u have never being bounced at the airport or asked to leave Canada. Hope this helps .
KweenCee:
Hmmmmmm, I though being refused admission means that u were refused entry at the POE.

Please I need contributions especially from people that filled this form and got their PPR. Please my people don't ignore me o....

Yewwygraceful:
Hi Winter check this link, it is specifically stated that you can add a family member after a visa is issued but before obtaining permanent residence status.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/express/refuse.asp

How you do it is what i am not sure of but you can fill the additional information form and raise a cse, send a mail to Ottawa as well. I think you should go ahead and pay the fee for your baby, submit medical report and bio data page of your baby's passports as well.
