A sexual assault survivor has gone ahead to create anti-rape shorts in a bid to curb the menace of rape.

The woman, Sandra Seilz who hails from Germany started the innovation as a personal project after she was attacked by three men while running.

There are two types of Safe Shorts – underpants and running shorts – and both are made from slash and tear-resistant material, and have a lock as well as an alarm.

The shorts are fastened with a cut-resistant cord, which is attached to the waist or pelvic area (depending on which style you have), and then secured with a clip that has a coded padlock.

It is designed in a way that the wearer can access the padlock in seconds with the code, but if someone else tampers with it, a 140 decibel alarm sounds.



The wearer also has the option of setting the alarm off themselves, should they feel threatened.

The shorts come in black, but you get a choice of lock colours.

Seliz said: "Three men came in front of me, one tried to pull down my running trousers, and another grabbed me while the other tried to rape me.

"I’m the lucky one, because there was a man with a dog, and the dog ran towards the men and they ran away. ‘[Later], when I was sitting at home, I thought: “What could have happened there?”

This is actually a good innovation considering the spate of rape attacks obtainable in the world today.



Women have ordered Safe Shorts from countries like Sweden, Norway, Spain, the USA and Australia while Seilz revealed that she has received a lot of inquiries from places like South America, India and Asia, but the price is too high for them.

This motivated her to move production from the Czech Republic to India, to try and make the product more accessible to women – especially in places like these, where rape rates are high.

As the clamour for sex dolls seemingly increases, the owner of British sex doll company, Lovedoll, has revealed that he is giving his clients a private space where they can test the sex dolls for thirty minutes before making payments.

The man identified simply as Graham said he is hiring out sex dolls for £100 an hour, but the ‘try before you buy’ scheme which he launched last month is just an extra for clients.



During a chat with Adrian Chiles on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “We’re hoping this is a test drive so that they would then go on to purchase one of our products. The aim of the game isn’t simply the use of the service.”

The quest to have male children has driven a lot of Indian couples into giving birth to millions of 'unwanted' girls.

Authorities of the country said on Monday that there is an estimated 21 million “unwanted” girls because couples keep giving birth to children until they produce a boy.

Indian parents have historically wanted sons, who are seen as breadwinners and family heirs. Girls are often viewed as a financial burden in a country where the tradition of giving a marriage dowry persists.

Even though sex selection is against the law, illegal gender-based abortions have been blamed for a sex ratio of 940 females for every 1,000 males in the last census.

But many couples continued having children until they produced their desired number of sons, the government said in its annual economic survey report.



“Families where a son is born are more likely to stop having children than families where a girl is born. This is suggestive of parents employing ‘stopping rules’ -– having children till a son is born and stopping thereafter,” it said.

Couples, particularly women, in India face immense pressure to produce male children and many rural families do not send girls to school, marrying them off young.

But the report said India’s preference for sons appeared “inoculated to development”, with even wealthier families not immune.

Illegal sex selection and gender-based abortions remain rampant across social and economic groups in the country, according to several studies.

A 2011 study in the British medical journal The Lancet found that up to 12 million girls had been aborted in the last three decades in India.

The third edition of the Big Brother Nigeria reality show is currently live and the frenzy on the internet has just begun.

Different people watch the show for different reasons, but one question that begs for answer is - what exactly is there for one to learn from the show?

Does the show really encourage talents like we were made to believe?

Not to sound like a spoiler, we all do love to be entertained but the organizers of the show seriously need to do more to bring together people who have talents and skills that will make the world better and not some Hot adults who could barely wait for a day before they get into the shower to kiss and kiss each other like it were some raunchy competition.

The last edition of the show became more like some pornographic show at some point with some housemates denying their families just to have a taste of another's private part.



If it were truly an entertainment focused, why would they be allowed to get that close how much more touch one another in the most erotic ways possible.

Who didn't see all the unclothedness that were displayed by housemates in the last show? Of course everyone did, even those of us who are not interested were interrupted by the sight on the internet because hyperactive people couldn't resist the urge to share them all over social media.

Countless times, housemates were caught on cameras having sex, kissing, giving each other blow jobs and engaging in all led sorts.

Since the show has gained the needed traffic, the organizers could leverage on it to encourage talents to get into the house rather than some randy few who get into the house to make exude displays like a dog on heat.

Not like anyone should dictate to adults what to do with their lives though, but we really expect more.

A recent study found that women actually find a man more attractive once they find out that he is married or has a girfriend.

Researchers asked 49 female volunteers to rate men’s faces, men’s hands and a piece of art, but when they were shown others’ ratings and asked again, they moved 13 per cent closer to the average facial score and 14 per cent closer to the average art rating.

Research leader, Dr. Kate Cross, from the University of St Andrews, said: “Women appear to copy the mate preferences of other women, but this might simply be because humans have a general tendency to be influenced by the opinions of others.”

While this might birth a whole new debate, it is pertinent to know that quite a handful of women are comfortable with the 'side chic' tag and do not care whose ox id gored.

In fact, it has become a trend that the society has decided to embrace since it appears there is nothing that can be done about it.



Some say it is part of the dividends of westernization whereas so many others believe it is just a thing of choice.

A man, Aliyu Mohammed, has cut off the manhood of his 12-year-old cousin, Farouk Ibrahim, in Babana, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

People are yet to decipher the reason why Mohammed committed the dastardly action while the victim was on his way to the farm to deliver food to his siblings.

The accused was said to have pounced on the unsuspecting victim and strangled him before cutting off his penis.

Ibrahim who was left in the pool of his own blood, regained consciousness nine hours later and managed to go home where he narrated his ordeal to his parents who rushed him to a hospital where a surgery was carried out and a catheter was inserted to enable him to urinate.

Narrating his ordeal, Ibrahim said: “I did not know what was happening; I woke up in the afternoon and was feeling pains in my manhood. When I looked down, I saw I was bleeding and my manhood had been cut off.



“I had to gather some strength and struggled to get home. I walked and in some places, I had to rest because the pain was much. I never knew one could feel such pain and survive, the pain was excruciating."

Mohammed had been arrested by the police, and had made confessional statement to investigators about the incident, although he had yet to give reasons for the violent attack.

The Head of Surgery, General Hospital, Minna, Dr. Adamu Bala, who examined Ibrahim, said although the teaching hospital tried to save the situation, Farouk might never have a functional manhood unless he went for an elaborate plastic surgery which is not available in Nigeria.

He said: “I reviewed the case of the boy. His penis was amputated and he was taken to the teaching hospital in Ilorin, they were able to save the situation at that moment.

“They were able to do some kind of plastic surgery to stop the bleeding and they inserted a catheter so that the boy would be able to pass urine. The only unfortunate part was that the amputated part was not seen and could not be sutured back.



“The situation is really sad because for this guy to have a functional penis, he will need an elaborate plastic surgery, the kind which I do not think we can do here in the country; he will have to be taken abroad where he would be assessed and examined to see how they can fashion a functional penis for him.

“Right now, there is the psychological and physical disturbance that the young boy is going through. Before now, he would have experienced erection but no, it cannot happen again. Before the incident, he was passing urine normally but now, he is passing urine through a pipe which is very abnormal and can be depressing. He needs urgent help,” Bala said.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the matter had been charged to court.

Nigerian tailors are probably the most traumatic thing that has happenened to an average citizen after bad governance and epileptic power supply.

Save you live under some huge rocks, you must have noticed a trending story about a tailor who disappointed a bride on her wedding eve and rather gave her dress which she was supposed to wear for her wedding reception to popular actress Mercy Aigbe.

The bride apparently got her supposedly best day in life ruined by a singular 'mistake' of a tailor who seemingly had little or no iota of remorse.

How can you possibly give someone's dress to another knowing full well that the owner would need it desperately for a serious occassion, her wedding day for that matter?

Who does that?.... Of course only Nigerian tailors.



It would not be wrong to think that Mercy possibly offered her a mouth-watering deal which made her lose her senses of intergrity at a flash.

My bitter experiences with tonnes of Nigerian tailors have made me resolve to learn how to sew no matter what it costs.

If a Nigerian tailor has not dealt with you before, then you must really be from the mars!

The 'my word is my bond' axiom is a strange tale to most of these tailors whose words are exactly the opposite of their actions.

There is no shade of disappointment that I have not gotten into with Nigerian tailors but each time, I waved it aside hoping that the next tailor would prove me just wrong and deliver their promises.



Intergrity is non-existent in the dictionaries of most Nigerian tailors and it is more heartbreaking that they seem to have gotten used to the lifestyle such that they no longer care whose ox is gored.

A tailor had my materials for long and in high hopes that I was going to have new dresses added to my wardrobe, I stormed her office in great excitement which soon disappeared into hot tears when she asked me to sort my untouched materials from the pile of of a thousand others. Damn!

Who would make heaven in such manner?

These people are experts in dealing with people's emotions. I have wept profusely for tailors countless times and after each episode, I will resolve not to have anything to do with tailors again, but new and trendy styles keep tormenting my vision on a daily basis and of course I will go looking for them again.

Is it the lies that flow from their mouths like they studied some lie-related courses in school, or the non-challance with which they respond to clients - Everything is just wrong.



What do they stand to gain though?

Devil will be so glad to take some selfies with too many Nigerian tailors because they must have earned his admiration with their disappointment skills.

Urrhhmm...there might be exceptions though, but like the stars, they are difficult to come by these days.

Danish police are investigating the theft of a bottle of vodka claimed to be the world's most expensive at $1.3m (£960,000).

The bottle is made from gold and silver and with a diamond encrusted cap, was on loan to a Copenhagen bar which had a collection of vodkas on display.

According to the bar owner Brian Ingberg, the bottle had featured in an episode of the political thriller House of Cards.

CCTV showed an intruder grab the Russo-Baltique vodka and flee the bar.

Police say it is not clear if the thief, who struck early on Tuesday, broke in or had a key.



Mr Ingberg, owner of the Cafe 33 bar, told broadcaster TV2 that he had borrowed the bottle from the Latvia-based Dartz Motor Company.

"It has been part of my collection for six months, but not any more," he said.

Russian luxury car maker Russo-Baltique is said to have created the vodka to commemorate the centenary of the company's factory.

The front of the bottle is decorated with leather and has a replica of the radiator guard used for Russo-Baltique cars.

The cap is shaped like a a Russian imperial eagle and is encrusted with diamonds.

f you’ve lived in Abuja long enough you will see them everywhere. Those ones who wear baggy jeans, face caps or hoodies with knapsacks. Most times they walk in twos, holding each other as if telling themselves; it’s us against the world.

I see them most times along Wuse II but not at Wuse Market; maybe they are not brave enough to tread that part yet.

On this fateful day, I needed to get pizza. I had just heard about the quality of AJ’s pizza and wanted to try it out. I hailed a taxi and after we had negotiated and agreed on a price, navigated my way there. Finally the sweet aroma…….mmmmmmmmmmm!

The Caucasian at the counter kept notifying the customers that only cash payments were acceptable- no ATM cards or POS payments in a not too familiar accent. ‘What country is that guy from sef?’ I whispered in my head.

There they were, two of them cuddled up in corner, I would have thought they were just friends hanging out but something gave them away – the eyes don’t lie.



I have always tried not to hate what I don’t understand, so I concentrated on getting my pizza. Ah! Out of the corner of my eye I noticed one of them crying, and then pleading, she was practically bawling her eyes out. Nigerians are a diverse people, some by sympathy, others by curiosity or plain old boredom were attracted to this commotion and little by little the drama began to unfold.

The heart-wrenching tears pouring from her eyes caught my attention. I thought to myself, this was more than physical, it transcended sex. What on earth would make a lady cry that much just because she broke up with another lady?

I have always thought lesbianism was just about girls doing stuff to one other, nothing more. This experience changed my thought process and all my previous beliefs took a back seat as I started to think. Whatever your background is, whatever your prejudices may be, these women actually feel the same thing heterosexual couples feel- LOVE.

Call it sick love, call it psycho or unholy, but at the end of the day, love is love! The truth is ‘love’ is subjective and it does not have a clear definition. So people are left to put meaning to what love is.

In Nigeria we frown at these kinds of people, we tag them gays and use other derogatory names to describe them. In fact, if you were such a person your parents will take you to church for special deliverance and may perform all sorts of dehumanizing acts to you just to get rid of this ‘evil spirit’. It is treated as an abomination, it is forbidden to speak about it, and ‘a true Nigerian’ condemns every form of lesbianism or homosexuality.



The reality however is much different. Like a cankerworm it has eaten very deep into our society. Right from secondary school and in some cases earlier, some children have been exposed to these acts. From a ‘school mother’ who touches her ‘school daughter’ indiscriminately every night to a ‘school darling’ who gives her ‘school love’ an ‘I love you card’.

One of the problems we have as a people is that when we hate something we tag it wrong and go into denial mode. We pretend it doesn’t exist and turn a blind eye to it and the possible scenarios that may encourage such behaviour. When these things we have ignored manifest down the road, we become hateful and violent and rain down curses on these people in moments of righteous indignation.

Are we going to pretend that male prostitutes (homosexuals in this case) do not line up the dark corners of Abuja City? Are we going to act as if some of us do not know active homosexuals and lesbians?

The greatest hypocrisy is exclusively held by the men who say, they can tolerate lesbians but cannot tolerate homosexual men. When I ask them why they don’t hate both acts equally since they are on a crusade to hate, the answer always gets me shaking my head. ‘It’s nice when ladies touch each other na’, it’s stirring. ‘Perverts!’ That’s me talking, ‘hypocrites!’ Is it not selfish, when you expect people to live according to your rules?

If we are realists, we would agree that this phenomenon has come to stay. It is probably one of those things my generation would be remembered for. Unless you think you can actually reverse the influence the Western World has on us Nigerians. If we act like the whole gay and lesbian epistle is just a Western thing, then we are not being truthful to ourselves and our culture.



We all have something to say, but should our opinion dictate someone else’s life?

Do not over estimate your power to change others. Live and let live.

An 18-year-old hairdresser, Theodora Ansah was slashed by her angry boyfrined Raymond Boabey.

Raymond Boabey is a construction worker at Likpe Mate, a suburb of Hohoe in the Volta region.

The victim, who is a mother of two, a three-year-old and a one and half-year-old daughters, however, escaped death but was gravely injured.

The victim was involved in a fight with the boyfriend whom she is living with, around 7 pm yesterday after a fight which begun on 25th December over one piece of meat she served him.

According to Theodora, she didn’t have enough to prepare her Christmas meal so she served him rice with one piece of meat which the boyfriend wasn’t happy about, so he confronted her angrily and slapped her in the process and kicked the lady out of his home.



On Thursday, 28th Decembers, he visited the lady to apologize and asked her to let him go home with her daughter from another man which she obliged. Hours later she went back for her daughter from him and he requested to have a chat which she agreed.

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, has reacted to report of two more dead persons discovered to have been appointed into the boards of Federal parastatals by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reacting to the discovery, Fani-Kayode has coined a term for it 'corpsocracy' the rulership of the living by the dead.

As different reactions continue to trail the health condition of Yusuf Buhari, son of president Muhammadu Buhari, petty traders are having a market boom.

Yusuf has been confined at Cedar Crest hospital in Gudu District, Abuja following a bike accident on Tuesday night.

Petty traders who sell items ranging from recharge cards to drinks close to the hospital have disclosed that they are making great sales due to the influx of dignitaries who flood the hospital to see the president's son on a daily basis.

As Nigerians continue to slam the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari, for enlisting dead people in recent appointments, the presidency has come out to clear the air.

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, explained that the list which had three dead Nigerians 'has a history'.

Shehu said that shortly after Buhari came into to office, he requested all state chapters of All Progressive Congress, APC to submit names of 50 party members to be considered for board appointment.

Different state governors reportedly protested when the names from the various party chairmen were forwarded to the president and in his bid to carry every one along, Buhari immediately constituted a committee led by vice president Yemi Osinbajo, to review and reflect the interest of the governors.

However, the report from the committee was not immediately implemented because Buhari took ill and travelled out for treatment.
Shehu said: “The president’s trips for medical attention slowed down completion of the process, until when Mr Buhari decided to revisit the matter recently.

“The current SGF was only directed to complete that process by releasing the list which he apparently did without altering it.”

He maintained that the list was not scandalous in any way and assured that the errors contained in it would be duly corrected.

Israel has officially announced her intention to withdraw from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

The country made this intention known via an official statement issued on Friday, December 29, 2017.

This decision was prompted by resolutions that are critical to the Jewish state.

Recall that United States had earlier pulled away from the organization after accusing them of 'anti-Israel bias'.

Therefore, Israel's membership of the organization will be terminated by December 31, 2018.
