Ethiopia is a land of many cultures that have been preserved despite western civilization. Along the Lower Omo valley river in Southern Ethiopia resides one of these kinds: the Bodi Tribe. The Bodi people are neighbours to the Mursi Tribe. The Bodi people are agriculturalists who still engage in trade by barter system.

These pastoral people revere their cows. Their cows are so special to them that its blood together with fresh milk is a source of food for this people. Rather than kill the cows, they make a hole in one of its veins to get the blood out and close it back with clay.

These animals are also used in certain ceremonies. Among the ceremonies is the peculiar new year celebration.

At the start of each year [the month of June in the Gregorian calendar], they hold a “Ka’el ceremony” (ceremony of fat men) to mark the new year celebrations. The Ka’el ceremony is a competition for men who are not married which involves drinking the blood mixture. The 14 clans present a man who is single and they deem fit for the competition. Those who are contesting prepare for six months. During this period, he must not have sex and must not be seen outside his hut.

There is a procedure for drinking the first bowl of 2 liters at sunrise while the rest comes easy and is taken all day.
It is not unusual to see some of these contestants vomit the mixture because two litres was more than they can drink

On the day of the competition, they cover themselves with clay and ashes and display their acrobatic skills.

As part of the competition, they run around sacred trees for hours sometimes with the assistance of women. While at it, they are under the watchful eyes of their judges. After this, the people use a sacred stone on a cow before killing it. The intestines are then used to predict what the year holds. When a winner is chosen by the elderly judges, they crown him, “fat man of the year title.”

Just like other beauty pageants, there is a prize only this time, it is the lifelong admiration of the Bodi people.

The people of Ovahimba and Ovazimba tribes in the Kunene and Omusati regions in Northern Namibia have an upheld culture that has defied western influence and agitation.

The red colour seen on their skin is called, the otjize paste ( a combination of butterfat, omuzumba scrub and ochre) and its function is to protect their skin from the sun and insect bites. They are also guided by the belief that the colour red signifies “Earth and blood”. Rather than take their baths, the women take a smoke bath and apply aromatic resins on their skin.

Give honour to whom it is due. This saying is applied differently in this tribe. When a visitor comes knocking, a man shows his approval and pleasure of seeing his guest by giving him the Okujepisa Omukazendu treatment. This practice literally means that his wife is given to his guest to spend the night while the husband sleeps in another room. In a case where there is no available room, her husband will sleep outside.

This handed down tradition has its “benefits” in the community: it reduces jealousy and fosters relationships. The woman has little or no opinion in the decision making. Submission to her husband’s demands come first.  She has an option of refusing to sleep with him but has to sleep in the same room as the guest.

She is also entitled to give her friends to her husband when they visit but this rarely happens.

A governor got so angry with his lover that he decided to demand his pound of flesh by sharing her nude photos in revenge.

Governor Eric Greitens of Missouri was arrested Thursday afternoon on the first floor of Carnahan Courthouse in St Louis, United States.

According to an eyewitness report by a journalist from the St Louis Post-Dispatch, the governor has been indicted and taken into custody for circulating photographs of his bound and partially nude lover.

Greitens was charged with invasion of privacy which was apparently linked to media reports last month that he had allegedly threatened to transmit photographs of the woman with whom he was having an affair.

The governor was charged Thursday after it was alleged that he had followed through on the threat and transmitted the photographs.



Greiten has admitted the affair which happened around the time he began his 2015 campaign for office when he switched from being a Democrat to a Republican and however, denied he threatened to circulate the photos.

In a statement from the office of St Louis Circuit Attorney, Kimberley M Gardner noted that Missouri law states it is a felony to take a nonconsensual photo and distribute to another person.

“As I have stated before, it is essential for residents of the city of St Louis and our state to have confidence in their leaders,” Gardner said.

The crime attracts a sentence of up to four years imprisonment for suspects who are convicted.

A 48-year-old man has lamented how he became impotent after his girlfriend left him.

Narrating his ordeal, Zecharia Makgwala from southern Africa, claimed to be a former “sex machine” in bed before his girlfriend left him five years ago.

“She said she was tired of me because I wasn’t working and at times, I asked her for money. She then took all my furniture, her clothes, and my manhood.

“She told me she would make sure that I never slept with anyone again,” he said.

“My manhood dies as soon as I am with a woman.

A woman who was mistakenly buried alive struggled to get out of the grave for eleven days before she eventually died.
Relatives of Rosangela Almeida dos Santos, 37, say she tried to fight her way out of her casket which was nailed shut and buried in Brazil.
Video shows the moment relatives prised the casket open at the cemetery in Riachao das Neves, northeast Brazil, only to find her corpse inside.
It was reported that people living near the cemetery told her family she'd been buried alive after hearing noises from inside the tomb.
Her corpse had injuries to her hands and forehead where she had tried to fight her way out, and there was blood inside the casket, it was reported.
Relatives initially thought she had passed away from "septic shock" following two cardiac arrests. Her funeral was held and she was buried on January 28.
But locals reported hearing her screams to family 11 days later on February 9.
Local resident Natalina Silva told Brazil's G1 website: "When I got there right in front of the tomb, I heard banging from inside it.
"I thought the kids who play around the cemetery were playing a joke on me. Then I heard her groan twice, and after those two groans she stopped.
"She had tried to open the lid, even the nails that had been hammered in were loose. Her hands were injured, like she had been trying to get out."
Ana Francisco Dias told Brazil's Globo TV: "There were than 500 people who came here and packed the cemetery, everybody went to see, lots of people touched her foot and everybody saw that she was still warm. She wasn't cold."
Cops have now launched an investigation into the case after Ms Santos' family members filed an official complaint.
Police chief Arnaldo Monte said: "We have today started to take statements from family members and other people.
"If need be we will exhume Ms Santos’ body again so we can get to the bottom of what really happened."

Police in Mushin, Lagos State have caught a man who reportedly hid Indian hemp worth about N80 million inside some Bibles, fruits and bags in Lagos State.

Reports said the police led by the Area Commander, Area D, Mushin, ACP Akinbayo Olasoji, raided the hideouts of suspected criminal in Akala area leading to the seizure of bails of Indian hemp.

It was also gathered that the team of the Divisional Police Officers of Mushin Area Command, destroyed several shanties allegedly used as hideouts by criminals.

A source privy to the matter noted that investigation has been launched to decipher the actual people behind the Indian hemp.

Meanwhile, the police had yet to issue an official statement to confirm or rebuff the incident as at press time.

JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, told journalists in Abuja that the former Nasarawa State coordinator had apologised to the JAMB audit team for his inability to account for the money for unknown reasons.

The officer, in his confessional statement, claimed that the unsold scratch cards were burnt when he was involved in a car crash, even as he failed to account for the ones he sold before a ban was placed on the use of scratch cards in 2016.

JAMB’s head of media said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the police had been invited to assist in recovering money allegedly stolen by its officials in the Abuja headquarters and the state offices.



He said: “In JAMB, we have nothing to hide. We run an open door system, where the public must have unfettered access to information, positive or negative, present or past.

“The fact remains that the officer in question in our Benue office and many others found in similar situations in some other states diverted the funds before the coming of Oloyede.

“But, be that as it may, management is working assiduously to arrest and hand over to the appropriate quarters this snake that swallowed our N36 million and a host of others still in our system.”

It's barely two hours to the long anticipated Valentine's day and people are doing all sorts to make the event as memorable as possible.

As preparations get tougher, stakeholders have expressed concerns about the alleged presence of fake condoms in the market.

The presence of fake condoms in the market is thus a cause for concern, especially at this time.

As reported by Standard Media, fake condoms have hit the Kenyan market, even as the world marks the International Condom Day today (Tuesday, February 13).

This information was contained in a warning issued by the Population Services Kenya.



In an advert placed in the local dailies, PS Kenya issued a directive to the public to be aware of the appropriate labeling of the Trust Studded brand of condoms.

The advert read: “Look out for the marks of quality on our packs to ensure that you are purchasing authentic Trust packs.”

An agency, PS Kenya, which distributes Trust Condoms, have been carrying out a three-day country-wide safety sensitisation campaign since February 10.

They say that the presence of fake condoms in the market puts consumers at risk of contracting Sexually Transmitted Diseases, since they are made from substandard materials.

The agencycautioned people to look out for the authentic package in the Studded product.



According to the advert, consumers should check the front face of a pack of Trust Studded to ensure that it has a triple-tested icon on the bottom left side and a white stripe with pack content.

The name “Studded” should also appear in bold at the centre of the pack. The pack’s spine should bear content details and only bear PS-Kenya contact details and nothing more.

Condoms, when properly used, are believed to be able to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

Two men were on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 remanded in jail for stealing seven cell phones in a church.

The duo of Richard Christian and Komolafe Shegun, were arraigned by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja.

Christian and Shegun, both 24, were arraigned on a two charge of conspiracy and stealing, offences they admitted committing, and begged for leniency.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave each of the convicts an option of N20, 000 fine and warned them to desist from committing crime.

Prosecutor Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that the convicts committed the offences at the Mountain of Fire Ministry Church, Utako, Abuja.



He said that one Miceal Idikuiri of the Mountain of Fire Ministry Church, Utako reported the matter at the Utako Police Station.

Zannah said the convicts entered into the church premises at about 4:36am and stole the seven cell phones belonging to worshippers.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code and the accused were consequently sentenced to six months imprisonment.

A 41-year-old pastor, Oluwasanjo Eniola, on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 approached a Grade C Customary Court, Inanlende, Ibadan, with a divorce suit against his wife of 20 years, Basirat, over her alleged resentment to his pastoral call.

The pastor urged the court to grant his prayers for dissolution of his 20-year marriage to Basirat to enable him to be free from his wife who’s not supportive.

According to him, hiw wife's resentment to his pastoral call pushed him into having extra-marital affairs which produced a child.

He said: ”My lord, my wife never supported my pastoral call, instead, she is in the habit of nagging me.

”She used to fight me over female church members but I let her realise that the women always give me advice that she never gives.



”At a time, she abandoned her matrimonial home and travelled to Lagos without my approval.

”Later, I decided to move closer to one of my female church members who gave me support.

”We eventually came together and our immorality led to pregnancy but I quit the relationship to avoid the wrath of God.

”I pray the court to separate us so that I can effectively face my ministerial work without interference,” Eniola pleaded.

In her defence, 34-year-old Basirat pleaded with the court to prevail on her husband not to leave her.



She, however, blamed the plaintiff for the challenges experienced in their union, which had produced four children.

Basirat alleged that her husband approved her relocation to Lagos to do menial job when life was tough for the family.

”Truly, I nagged him when I noticed his unholy romance with a female church member he eventually impregnated.

”As a woman, it is not strange that I expressed my disapproval towards his relationship with the woman, after all, he is a pastor.

”I want the court to give us more time for settlement because I cannot remarry after four children.



“And I promise to corporate with him if the matter is resolved.” Basiratsaid.

Having listened to both parties, the president of the court, Chief Ramoh Olafenwa, adjourned the case until February 28, 2018 for parties to report on settlement of the matter out of court.

Itse Sagay, Chairman of the of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC), has dismissed calls that youths will perform better than older people if given the opportunity to become President of Nigeria. Sagay warned that Nigeria may regret having a youth as president because they would be embarking on a dangerous journey if elected.

According to Sagay, those thinking that youths would perform better in positions of authority in Nigeria were being shallow-minded.

Sagay said, “Number one: it is shallow-thinking for anyone to think that if a youth becomes president, he will do better than the older one.

“It is very shallow thinking because, as I see it, it is the youths of Nigeria today who believe in overnight wealth, who want billions overnight, who don’t want to work for their living and gradually build up their assets and business.

“That psychology of overnight wealth is almost exclusively a youth attribute. “Number two: who is stopping the youths? All these people who are advocating that the youths should take over are in essence saying the older ones should just call the youths and say ‘come and take power.



“If you want power, you work for it. You are not going to sit down in your sitting room and somebody will bring power to you. Let them join the fray.”

The popular comedic rapper Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz the Bhad guy shared his experience of how he almost died. The rapper said he almost died with his management team sometime ago after his driver was shot during a robbery incident on the high way.

He said “In November 2013, I had a terrible accident. It was a near-death experience and I was in the vehicle with my management team.

“The accident was caused by armed robbery. We were on the highway when suddenly the car was shot at. The driver was killed and we ended up in a ditch.

“I sustained injuries and the visible scars on my body are from that day. I really thought it was the end, especially when the driver died and his foot was still on the throttle, making the car to continue moving. As the car was about to crash, I just covered my face and brace for impact. I thought that at least, one should die as a fine boy.

“After the crash, the armed robbers came and ransacked all the bags in the car, looking for money. Today, I continue to remember that incident and I know that God kept me alive for a reason.”



On his plans for marriage, Falz says he is under pressure to take on wedding vows especially following the highly talked about wedding of fellow industry colleague, Banky W.

“In recent past, people have been putting me under a lot of pressure to get ready. When Banky W and Adesua got married last year and it almost broke the Internet, it put a lot of pressure on bachelors like me. Everybody is getting married; so, I think it’s high time for me.” He added

A 49-year-old commercial sex worker has finally decided to retire after 23 years active service.

Upon pulling the curtains of her profession, Sarah Mutero received a parcel of land worth Sh120,000 in Makuyu, Murang’a County of Kenya.

Some well-wishers have also promised to pool funds to build her a house after she ditched the trade.

Stanley Ngara aka King of Condoms of LVCT- and who is spearheading a programme to retire sex workers in a humane way said sex workers have played an important role in the fight against HIV/Aids.



According to him: “Men will seek sex in all ways, but when it comes to sex workers it is a different game. They don’t accept intercourse without condoms however much men insist to pay more for unprotected sex.

"Society has a negative perception of sex workers but in reality, they are in the front line in prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

“Their clients are men in other relationships — and from surveys, seven out of 10 clients ask for unprotected sex. Out of these seven, five are willing to pay handsomely. If they accept such deals you can imagine how HIV/Aids can spread. We must appreciate them with a retirement package”.

For 23 years Mutero had been a sex worker, having serviced hundreds of men at her hometown of Embu, Nairobi city centre and in Majengo area.

She claims she would service 20 or more men in a day in her younger years. But as age set in, hard economic times and stiff competition she could manage four customers daily. This means an average of 100 per month and for 23 years she has taken care of over 28,000 men.



“It is not an easy thing to satisfying such a big number of men, some being ruthless, yet we end up poor. We earn peanuts that we can’t even save. Everything I have earned in servicing needy men went to clothes, shelter and food for my children as well as education,” she said.

In the sex business, she says, some morals are thrown out of the window if one is to make good money.

“If a shot is Sh100 how many men do you have to sleep with to make ends meet? Many. That is why we don’t disregard customers as far as they can pay and are above 18 years. Though I am old, young men prefer me because we treat them well, and if they are beginners we show them how to put on condoms and do enjoyable sex. My clients are aged between 18 and 35 years,” she revealed.

Mutero is among the old sex workers in the city and has decided to retire and set a precedent for her workmates, some in their 60s.

“Young women are taking over. I also find it weird when some customers we meet tell me I served them five or ten years ago. They wonder how I am still alive and in the business. I have turned down many asking to marry me, especially after I give them delightful sex,” she said.



She added; “I want to retire and settle down quietly. I am not addicted to a point I will retreat to the streets. No, I just want quiet life with my children and I am not interested in getting a husband.”

The mother of two sons jumped into prostitution aged 17 years in 1995 after a stranger impregnated her and vanished.

“They respect me and I suspect they know I am a sex worker. They have prayed that I shift from what I am doing. I wish my children do not get into this business or seek sex from prostitutes."

"There seems to be an immense amount of pressure surrounding virginity in today’s society. For me, it’s completely acceptable to still be a virgin. I guess sometimes others are talking about their first times, I don’t have that luxury – so I just listen!



"The pressure seems to come from the fact that it doesn’t seem socially acceptable to be a virgin at a certain age.

"I certainly don’t feel less of a man because I haven’t had those experiences."

Conlon who has been diagnosed with a mental illness wince he was 15, is optimistic that his first time would be just perfect.

According to him: "You don’t really know how it’s going to play out. I’m not scared, maybe just a little nervous?

"It creates a sense of anxiety around the whole situation and expectations. I’ve learnt to be kinder to myself and try not to let others expectations of how I should live my life affect me," he explained.



"Sometimes people just assume that you aren’t a virgin so when entering into conversation about it people are generally surprised.

"The usual “aren’t you just gagging for it?” Or “is there something wrong with you?” are the ones I get the most.

"They are usually shocked but to be honest I don’t think I’ve had anyone be critical about it."

As much as people might ind it awkward, there are a thousand and one virgins out there who choose the path for reasons best known to them.

Remember the case of Jumia dispatch rider who was murdered by some guys sometimes in the year 2017? The murder case involving the killing of Chukwuma Eleje, the dispatch agent of popular online store, Jumia who was murdered along Ada-George area of Port Harcourt has stalled.

The matter was stalled because Defense counsel, Uchechukwu Amadi who is counsel to Sodieneye Mbatumueke applied to withdraw from the matter over threat to his life. State Counsel, Ibikiri Otorobio also told the court that he has had series of threats to his life.

Trial Judge, Justice Chigozie Igwe in his ruling said the lawyers should show evidence of the threat to their lives.

Speaking outside the court room, Director of Public prosecution, Ibikiri Otorobio said the matter cannot continue until the defendant gets a new lawyer.

“Our law says if anyone is being threatened in camera, he can be heard in camera. “The Defense Counsel has said he is being threatened to withdraw from the matter. Who is threatening him, we don’t know. So he has to prove that to the court,” the DPP said.



The matter was adjourned to February 16 for hearing.

The accused persons, Sodienye Mbatumueke and Rexcel Nabee are standing trial on charges of Murder and Armed robbery for the alleged killing of the agent, Chukwuma Eleje and dumped his body in a septic tank after allegedly delivering two iPhones to them.

A repentant cultist got people shocked to the marrows with his confession on how he fed on women's breasts and two glasses of blood everyday through the duration of his cult membership.

Samuel Mwema Muli, 47, reportedly killed more than 7,000 people from various parts of Kenya in less than ten years.

In 2014, he candidly opened up to the Nairobian detailing his ‘dark’past and what drove him to change.

According to him, his outrageous satanic mission began one afternoon in 1992 when he killed his eight-month-old son, a heinous act that saw him part ways with his first wife.

Muli who was born in Roysambu, Nairobi, spent three years in jail for mentioning the names of powerful people as devil worshippers.



He said: “After graduation, I was employed by a news agency in Nairobi where I overheard fellow scribes talk about devil worshipping. I did not believe the talk. But what attracted me to it was the money."

Muli who studied journalism revealed how he stumbled upon one letter addressed to him one Thursday evening after work outside the KPCU Building on his way to his Majengo house.

“It was an invitation to cover a fundraising event for street children.

“I met a shamba boy (name withheld) dressed in black. He welcomed me saying the chief guest expected at the event was a powerful cabinet minister,” he said.

Muli says at the entrance, the shamba boy stripped Unclad and took him to a woman who introduced herself as Francisca from Kiambu.



“She pulled a drawer, counted crispy Sh75,000(N267,000) notes and handed them to me,” he claims.

“When I arrived at about 5pm, I lied to my colleagues that I had hit a jackpot and invited them for drinks.

“I met Francesca once more and she led me to another office where I saw three TV screens written ‘Kenya,’ ‘Uganda,’ and ‘South Africa.

"On one of the screens, I saw the face of my 18-month-old first born son.

“Then a Unclad woman came, gave me a sharp razor, commanded me to cut the face of my son on the screen and gave me Sh85,000(305,000).



“Three days later, my son died mysteriously. His private parts and tongue were missing when we buried him.”

Three months after the incident, he claims he was officially recruited as a member of the cult when the team leader took all his finger and toe prints.

Thereafter, he started earning Sh9,000 every Friday, more money than the agency paid. So he quit.

With a steady flow of easy cash, Mali claimed he invested in the transport business and acquired a fleet of buses that operated between Nairobi-Kisumu and Eldoret-Nakuru-Nairobi.

However, an enquiry by The Nairobian revealed that the bus company he named is registered at the Kenya Revenue Authority under a different person.



Muli also claimed that he sacrificed all the passengers aboard one of his buses near Kericho in a tragic accident that happened in 1997.

He said: “I was behind the grisly road accidents between Naivasha and Nakuru. I could board a bus or matatu and alight before the crash.

“That period, I fed on women breasts and two glasses of human blood daily. By the time I quit, the cult had more than 500 followers in Nairobi. But all my wealth was taken by the cult when I quit.”

According to Muli who has now become a preacher, he quit from his evil antics one fateful night after an angel appeared to him.

“I woke up the following day at a church in Nairobi after falling nude from the ceiling and sending the faithful scampering for safety. The three women who remained covered my nudity,” he said.



“The police were called, but since there was no damage on the ceiling, they left.”

An unspecified number of school children are feared dead as a school bus carrying them went up in flames at Trade Moore Estate, Lugbe,Abuja.

An eyewitness identified only as Faith told DailyNaija that the school children were pupils of Little Drops School in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to her, the school bus has been in a bad condition for a long time and the school management paid little care to it until the unfortunate incident happened.

Although there are claims that the fire was ignited by a keg of petrol which the driver had kept in the bus, it is not exactly clear what led to the fire.

Founder and leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, has blasted the Igbo tribe. Uwazurike described the Igbo as foolish and opined that it might be impossible for an Igbo person to become Nigeria’s president because thy are a bunch of selfish people who are only after their pockets.
In a recent chat with Punch, Uwazurike recalled how Igbo was pushed aside after forming the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 1999.

According to him, while the Yoruba embraced unity, the Igbo man was the person speaking Hausa in Jos.

He said: “Remember, it was the Igbo man that formed this PDP but they snatched it from him. Then, it was clear that an Igbo man would be the President of Nigeria. But in Jos, it was the Igbo who robbed themselves of that opportunity. The Igbo at that political event in Jos started speaking Hausa.

“The Igbo started sponsoring (Olusegun) Obasanjo against (Alex) Ekwueme; giving N100 million and all that to another tribe to emerge. Let me tell you, the Igbo tribe is the most foolish tribe I have ever seen in the world.

“While the Yoruba embraced unity, the Igbo man was the person speaking Hausa in Jos; the Igbo man was the one donating money against his own brother in Jos to another candidate.



“Is that a wise tribe? Then, who should I apologise to for using the word ‘foolish?’ Then what have we achieved from the PDP? For how many years have the Yoruba people used the PDP? Eight years! Now, when it was the turn of the South-East, they sent it to South-South.

"They wanted to appease the South-South region because of oil. This was because the South-South was agitating for resource control; they had to appease them. That was after power had gone back to the North.

"But the agitation for Biafra is never supported by the Igbo man. To the Igbo man, the agitation for Biafra is nothing. They want presidency. How did Obasanjo become president? It was because the Yoruba were angry over the death of (MKO) Abiola.

"So, Obasanjo was then brought out from the prison to become the President as compensation for the Yoruba. The quest for Igbo presidency started in 1999, and it will continue to elude the Igbo for the next 100 years. Forget about 2023 because you will be alive in 2023 and I will ask you: ‘How far? Has an Igbo man become the president of Nigeria?’ I bet with my life that no Igbo man will emerge as president in 2023.

A man who was gang-raped by three women has finally spoken up about his ordeal in the hands of the trio.

The man from Hluhluwe South Africa said he will not be able to forgive the three women.

According to him, two of the women attacked him while the third one recorded the scene in a video that has since gone viral across the internet.

He said he was at home when a woman whom he knows called him over, saying she needed help with an electrical problem at her home.

“I went into her house and when I got there, I saw another girl in the room. I did not pay any attention to her. Then another girl who was hiding behind the door closed it, that’s when I realised that something was wrong,” he said.



He said after they closed the door behind him, they told him they wanted to sleep with him and at first he thought they were joking.

However, he soon realised they were serious when they pounced on him and began attacking him.

He said he tried to defend himself but his arm was weak since he had injured it in an accident years ago.

The three women finally let him go after the attack and he went home feeling both confused and angry.

“I told my older sister about what happened but she thought I was joking.”



It was only after a video appeared online that she took what he said seriously and encouraged him to go to the police. He said he feared going to the police because he thought they would not take him seriously.

“When I told them what happened they were shocked. The three women were arrested the same day I reported the matter.

“I’m very angry,” he said of the assault. One of the families of the alleged rapists went to the man’s home to try to make amends, he said.

“My brothers and sisters were not having any of it. People like that should not be part of society.”

What made it more difficult to move on was that the video was on social media and people had come to ask him what happened.



“It is something I never thought would happen to me. There is not much I can do but try to move on.”

According to Reese Mann, executive director of the South African Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse (Samssa), one out of six males before the age of 18 were sexually abused.

Mann said 19.3% of all sexual violations reported to police involved male victims.

“Male victims of sexual abuse are less likely than their female counterparts to report incidents of sexual abuse, because police and the judiciary don’t take it seriously,” Mann said.

Mann said a widely held myth was that if males got an erection and/or, ejaculated during the sexual abuse, they must have enjoyed it.



“A man being raped can still get an erection because it is in the physiological make-up of males that if they are caressed long enough they end up getting an erec)tion,” said Mann.

He said there was also the myth that men should be capable of protecting themselves against sexual abuse.

“There are three stages that any victim of sexual abuse goes through, and they are called the three Fs.

“They can fight back, they can flee or they are just overcome by fear and the force exerted by the perpetrator, in which case they just freeze,” said Mann.

Eke who is also the Financial Secretary, Public Health Sustainable Advocacy Initiative (PHSAI), said: ”Sodomy is generally anal or MouthAction between people or sexual activity between a person and a non-human animal (bestiality), but it may also mean any non-procreative sexual activity.



“Originally, the term sodomy, which is derived from the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Book of Genesis,[4] was commonly restricted to anal sex.”

According to her, it was like having intercourse with an inanimate object which the scripture strongly objected to.

Eke said: “The use of sex dolls as a means of family planning is sodomy and should not be encouraged.

“It is like having an intercourse with a dead person or an inanimate object.



“The scripture is very clear about sex and it forbids having it with either the dead or animals.

“Aside that, there may be other consequences, including electrocution of the user, because sex doll is attached to electrical appliances for it to work.

“The user may be electrocuted because it is powered by electricity and such thing should not be associated with family planning methods.

“The best method to control childbirth is through family planning which Lagos State Government had made more affordable now.

“The woman should be given adequate rest before the next conception because the womb needs rest.



“It is like an apple shaped structure which is being scrapped on the surface.

“The walls of the womb needs rest after childbirth, because it is enlarged after the childbirth and needed to contract after childbirth; frequent enlargements will not help the womb to heal.”

“If this is not adhered to, it can lead to death and high maternal mortality rate we are talking about."

Men have been advised to know and monitor their women's menstrual cycles as it will help to foster their relationships.

This were exactly the thoughts of the Programme Director, Development Communications Network Mr. Akin Jimoh.

Jimoh gave the advice during an interview when his team visited the Lagos Operations of the News Agency of Nigeria at Iganmu, Lagos.

According to him, a good knowledge of the woman’s cycle will go a long way in achieving good maternal health, especially when it comes to family planning and relationship.

He said: “For every man who is getting married, you are expected to understand the menstrual cycle of the woman, as it will help when it comes to maternal health and family planning.



“Look at issues from the perspectives of the woman; what are the changes during that period, how does the woman feel; also, look at the inconveniences.

“Knowing a woman’s cycle will give the couple a better understanding of the woman’s ovulation, because if ovulation doesn’t occur, the woman will not get pregnant.

“It will act as a form of Natural Family Planning to help people to know when to have sexual intercourse and when to achieve or avoid pregnancy.’’

According to Jimoh, knowing the woman’s cycle will involve keeping track of a woman’s bodily, emotional and physical changes before, throughout and after her menstrual cycle.

“Changes occur naturally when a woman ovulates; such changes include the appearance of the cervical mucus; during ovulation, it is stretchy, clear, and slick.



“During that period, the daily basal body temperature also changes. For some women, they may experience tenderness in the breast, backache, waist pain, while some may put on weight.

“Also, some women go through some Pre-Menstrual Syndrome, emotional turmoil and irritability before and during this period. So, if a man does not understand these, it will affect the relationship.

“He may not understand the woman’s moods and why she is acting the way she did."

He warned that if a woman’s cycle is not tracked when she is not using any form of family planning method, if the couple engages in sexual intercourse, it may lead to unplanned pregnancy.

“So, it is important for the man to be involved in tracking all of these because studies have shown that when women communicate information about their cycles to their partners, it can have positive effects on relationships.’’
