Jose Mourinho's Champions League hoodoo took another dramatic turn as he suffered his second defeat in the space of four days. After the shocking 1-0 loss to Everton on Saturday, the Portuguese coach could only watch in frustration as the Blues conceded two late goals to FC Basel to suffer their first home defeat in the group stage since 2003. And after Chelsea's below-par performance raised doubts over their credentials this season, we decided to take a look at the lessons to be learned from Wednesday's defeat and all other matches played. 1. Chelsea New Boys Need Time to Jell With three summer signings making their Champions League debuts for Chelsea on Wednesday night, it was always going to be difficult for them to settle in. Willian, Marco van Ginkel and Samuel Eto'o all started against Basel, and while the former seemed to adapt swiftly to Chelsea's style of play, the other two struggled to impose themselves on the game. Mourinho's decision to play Oscar through the middle turned out to be a masterstroke, as the Brazilian was perhaps the only bright light on an otherwise poor evening for the Blues. His compatriot Willian started from the right and looked to ooze confidence with every touch. But it soon became evident how little these Chelsea players had to get to know one another's style of play. Eto'o, in particular, appeared to be two or three weeks short of full fitness and lacked the sharpness that Chelsea required from their lone forward. Van Ginkel was naive with his tackles, rightfully earning a yellow card after his touch let him down and he went flying into the challenge. He's only 20 and has managed just a short cameo against Hull before the Basel game, so it's expected that he may struggle to adapt at first. But after spending over £60 million this summer, Mourinho needs his new players to jell in time to recover from their dreadful start. 2. Mourinho Will Regret Loaning Out Lukaku On transfer deadline day, many Chelsea fans had heard about Demba Ba's impending move to Arsenal and thought that would be end of the matter. But Mourinho decided to perform a U-turn and kept the striker, instead sending out Romelu Lukaku to Everton on a season-long loan. Unsurprisingly, there were a few disgruntled voices in the distance. To send out the exciting, 17-goal Belgian striker on loan when Chelsea had only scored five goals in their opening six matches was slightly baffling, and to keep struggling Ba as a consequence was the icing on the cake for Chelsea fans. Eto'o was given the chance to lead the line on Wednesday but somewhat failed to get going. He perhaps lacked the motivation or sharpness that Chelsea desired against Basel. And when Chelsea fell behind, Mourinho threw on Ba in a desperate attempt for a goal, but much like Eto'o, the Senegalese forward barely got a touch in the second half. What difference might a fast and powerful striker like Lukaku have made in a match of such importance? We'll never know, but there's no doubt that the West London club's supporters may be feeling that Mourinho sent the wrong man out on loan. Here are the top 7 richest Nigerian Footballers in Naira >>>>> http://wolexis..com/2012/11/top-7-highest-paid-nigerian-footballers.html |
As we all know, the 2013/2014 season of the most watched league in the world will begin on the 17th of this month which Is Saturday. As Africans following the beautiful game,we consider it a very important feature to follow the growth of our players, apart from the big names like the mikels,Moses, gervinho and Adebayor to mention a few This article brings light upon the players not known to most of us but are definitely players to watch out for. First up is Wilfred Zaha of Manchester United and Ivory Coast. Few realised at the time, but Manchester United’s acquisition of Crystal Palace winger might prove to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s final decisive purchase as Red Devils boss. At 20 years old, the winger is still perhaps too raw to command a first-team spot straightaway, but one of David Moyes’ key challenges—and surely key ambitions—will be to polish the England international into a top-class Premier League competitor. While this season may predominantly be a question of acclimatisation, Zaha is already more than capable of making an impact in a substitute capacity. Moyes will be hoping for much, much more before too long. Next on the list is Christian benteke for Aston villa and DR Congo (Belgium) Aston Villa fans must have been delighted that superstar striker Christian Benteke decided to renew his contract with the Midlands club. The vultures had been circling, and at times over the last few weeks and months it seemed almost certain that the Belgian’s future would be away from Villa Park. Tottenham Hotspur had been identified as a potential destination, but the new contract signing means that those attentions have been put on ice. Benteke was one of the revelations of last season. The striker has the lot: pace, power and technical prowess. He spearheaded a young Villa side and will surely only get better with time and experience. The 22-year-old scored 23 goals in all competitions during 2012-13, and Villains chief Paul Lambert will be delighted at the continuation of their relationship. Third player to watch out for is Victor Wanyama: Southampton & Kenya It is no surprise that Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama has moved to a major European league, but I imagine few expected that Southampton would be lucky enough to acquire his services. Recall that the 21 year old came to lime light after his impressive display against Barcelona when Celtic shocked the Catalan giants in the Champions League The Saints have picked up a valuable asset. The East African is a dynamic, energetic central midfielder, he can tackle, he can pass and he can also score goals, as was evidenced during Celtic’s magnificent run in the Champions League last season. As noted by the Independent, Wanyama may have alerted the wider footballing public during those contests with Barcelona, but the truth is that he has regularly been dominating in the “bread and butter” contests of the Scottish Premier League week in and week out. Certainly the EPL will be a step up, but expect Wanyama to make the grade next term. Look forward to the Kenyan forging a dynamic and effective partnership with Morgan Schneiderlin in the heart of Saints midfield. Unfortunately, that's all we can take..certainly we can't touch all the interesting players, let us know what you feel.you can view the full African list here http://wolexis..com/2013/07/top-7-africans-to-watch-out-for-in.html Thank you! ![]()

Mancini was incensed by a mis-timed tackle by the 22-year-old forward. Balotelli squared up to his manager who reacted by grabbing the young striker by his training bib. Staff were forced to intervene and coach Brian Kidd had to get between the two before dragging Mancini away from the player as other staff pulled Balotelli away. According to John Drayton of the Daily Mail, the tackle in question took down Gael Clichy. But to truly appreciate what happened here, you have to re-live the incident through the amazing images that came from the practice grounds. INCREDIBLE! 74 Year old footballer scores the 1300th goal in his career https://www.nairaland.com/1120758/74-year-old-man-scores |
Although Lionel Messi is unarguably the hottest footballer at the moment with 84 goals already this year,he still has a fair way to go to catch up with Derek May. May, 74, plays for Meridian FC in Kent, and scored a penalty against Borough United in the Southern Vets League Second Division in a 7-1 victory for his side. The forward has three children and five grandchildren, and started his footballing career in 1954.Monumental stuff. LOL!! What Messi can do... Baba can do better .... Nigerian international and Spartak Moscow player, Emmanuel Emenike, may be spending three years in jail after Turkish prosecutors on Tuesday called for a three-year prison term for him following his implication in a widespread match-fixing scandal. The lawyers in Istanbul accused Emenike, who currently plays for Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League, of faking an injury to avoid playing for his former club Karabukspor against Fenerbahce in May 2011, the Anatolie news agency reported. The footballer’s agent had beforehand been approached by Fenerbahce officials to arrange the player’s “injury” for the match, they claimed. The 25-year-old attacker’s case has been tried separately from a larger trial that has rocked Turkish football and which ended in July seeing the president of Fenerbahce, Aziz Yildirim, sentenced to six years and three months in prison. A total of 93 people were tried and a number were found guilty of having fixed matches in the Turkish first and second divisions in the 2010-11 season, as well as for malpractice. Emenike joined Fenerbahce in 2011 but did not make a first team appearance for the club before he was transferred to Spartak. www.wolexis..com |

Nigeria’s Peter Odemwingie was the match winner in West Brom’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea,in their week 12 fixture of the English Premiership. West Brom went into the lead through Shane Long, after evading David Luiz to head home a cross beyond Petr Cech. The Albions looked the livelier of both teams, with Chelsea looking tired as Ramirez,Oscar and Juan Mata, started on the bench after a tiring international midweek. Chelsea came back in the game, with Eden Hazard crossing the ball to Aziplicueta, who in turn crossed it back to the Belgian whose head shot took a deflection on Jones for the equaliser. The goal breathed life into Chelsea, who started rampaging West Brom’s defence, but it ended 1-1 going into the half-time. West Brom showed that their position in the league was no fluke, going in front through Odemwingie, who connected his head to Shane Long’s cross to make the scores 2-1. Congratulations to him!! Moving to a big club is every player's dream. We know a lot of success stories, like Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United and Zidane to Real Madrid but there are alot of players who have not been fortunate. Let's take a look at some of them. JULIO BAPTISTA Sevilla to Real Madrid Between 2003 and 2005, Baptista made 81 appearances for Sevilla and scored 58 goals. And then Madrid came knocking... *sighs* Only a few players can reject an offer from the Spanish giants and Baptista was not one of them as he completed a 24.5 million pounds move to join the famous Galaticos era. To add more salt to his misery, he was handed the No 8 jersey! well the rest is history. He could managed only 6 goals throughout his stay and was overshadowed by the likes of Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul, and so on. He later moved to Arsenal on loan and has since then failed to rediscover his form. There are still many more! Read up the article by visiting www.wolexis..com today

Manchester United made it maximum points from their opening three Group H games thanks to a 3-2 win over Braga, although they were given a huge fright. www.wolexis..com ![]() 90 seconds in and Manchester United are behind. How many times have United fallen behind this season? I'll tell you. It is eight times in 12 games. The home side never fully cleared from the early corner and Hugo Viana's cross is headed into the bottom corner by Alan. And the Brazilian added to the visitors' advantage, rifling in after Eder had beaten Carrick and cut the ball back across the area. Follow @wolexis ![]() United's respond was rapid, Javier Hernandez headed home Shinji Kagawa's cross following a fine work from Robin van Persie and parity was restored when Jonny Evans stabbed the ball over the line in a goal mouth scramble, with Braga having failed to clear a corner properly. Hernandez's second of the evening put the seal on the turnaround, the Mexican striker peeling away at the back post to meet Tom Cleverley's deep centre. Chelsea's chances of qualifying for the knockout stage is looking slimmer after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Donbass Arena. Shakhtar Donetsk eased ahead with less than four minutes played, Alex Teixeira drilling across Petr Cech and into the back of the net after Blues skipper John Terry deflected the ball into his path. Shakhtar sliced through Chelsea at will for much of the opening period, and Cech was forced to make a miraculous save to keep out Tomas Hubschman's shot from six yards.
