@wonderbod
What is it like, schooling in canada.
I sincerely hope to make it

i guess it depends on the school. It is quite interesting in my school where there is like zero black population to hear people's perception of africa/africans cos most people i meet. If you're in a 'nigerian' school like york or schooling in a major multicultural city like toronto and alberta , i bet you'll get a totally different experience. The few times i travelled to toronto;there were some streets that i was on, i could have closed my eyes and felt i'm in lag cos of the yoruba flying around and naija guys calling me 'nne'.
My observance from about 7 months of being here?
I'd say canadians are very friendly, smiley (scarily so) and welcoming. Maybe cos my school is on a fairly quiet island. I know just about every single black person here(facially) cos u hardly come across one though my school has a massive population of foreign students.
It is expensive, the taxes are crazy(at least in this province) and the GSM system is probably the most expensive i've had in countries i've been to. you guys are having a ball with mtn n glo's international call rates. If you travel with your phone from one place to the other; your call rates practically double. maybe cos its a huge country, i don't know.
Oh, and you're treated waaaay differently at the embassies here. Getting the U.S and UK long term visas was so stress-free and fast i had to wonder, isn't this the same visa they treat us like trash at their embassies in nigeria for?
I'm sure Delta007 will be in a better position to answer your questions cos i'm just a student and my life for now revolves around campus, parties wink and generally younger crowd. When i start working soon and my folks ain't sending me money anymore,e go change.
I hope you make it. Goodluck! smiley

MAPLE is in sura shopping complex on simpson street, lagos island. dnt kno d exact office no but turn rite as sn as u enter. there office is on rite hand side.jst ask wen u're there.

@ Missy. u're welcome. Goodluck!

@ Luizworld.
I don't think u need to pay your fees(jst have enough money in the bank acc u submit to the embassy) but this would depend on the school. If the school is not asking for it yet, hold on. some schools will withdraw your admission if u don't pay within  particular period(this happened to me). some others will want payment even before they send the letter u need to go to the embassy with. I didn't pay my fees until i got to my school. Not sure why because the other guys from my agency paid. probably becos the first sch withdrew their admission last minute AFTER i had done my medicals and everything had to be rushed after then to get me a new school about two weeks before i left(thanks to maple). I picked up admission letter when i got to my school. I was supposed  to still hold my First school's admission letter(d schl on my visa application) to pass through immigration but i forgot it at home. Luckily, mrs obaro(d owner of maple) travelled with us and was standing rite there with us all through the immigrations checkpoints so i didn't get harrassed for it. GOODLUCK

@ luizworld.  Not necessarily. They're registered canadian immigration consultants and reps for quite a no. of schools. it just gives u a better chance since that's what they do over and over again. Some documents u've been asked to submit that may end up messing-up your application, they might remove it n tell u why(they removed my dad's tax clearance cos it didn't tally with the income in the account). The might also tell you something else that wasn't required to add(i was studying at alliance francais so they asked me to add my student ID  so the embassy knows i've not ben idle since i graduated), stuffs like that.
STILL,u can do it on your own CAREFULLY then find someone to help you go over your documents before you submit. It was just a lot easier for me and convenient( i'm not the most careful person) since i wasn't steady in Lag and was always on the move so when the embassy needs something(i was asked for my bank statement twice),you know immediately instead waiting endlessly at home and having delays. They go over all your documents to be sure that they are no conflicting information(I was asked to remove my sister from my list of siblings cos she changed her age when she wanted to relocate abroad and it ended up been same with my elder bother's. but different months-which is not possible;if they're twins, they would have the same birthdate not a month apart).
they also get the affidavit legal and police clearance things done for you.
All these u can do yourself if u don't want to spend money having them do it for you. just follow the CIDC requirements and have som one go over ur application 2 b sure u're not missing anything. Goodluck. smiley

MISSY,if u must use an agent,i'd recommend MAPLE. they're expensive. Yes. but u don't make any major payments up front.u pay step by step.4 that 40k,u sit back n they sort out d schools 4 u n let u know which one(from the ones they represent) would accept u and apply for you,u get the admission letter fast cos they have ppl in the schools, same thing with your police report and embassy stuffs. then u pay the 120k, u wait again until they're sure of your visa b4 u pay the rest(they WILL refund u this if u're refused as long as its not as a result of forged documents).
If you the school you want is not on their list, you can always get your own admission and come to them for the visa(not guaranteed,of course.but if you are straight and have all the documents they ask for,u're good to go. When i left,we were over 90 students from maple travellin together). They have a very good standing with the embassy(if u read my earlier posts, all the while i was worried about my visa been delayed after my medicals cos i had problems with d school i earlier applied to, later found that my visa was stamped when it was supposed to be. the embassy just still held on to it waiting for me to get another admission but in the end still released it without one).
They also have wide support system here(older students that have gone through them and the owner has one BIG extended family here.u don't get to feel alone cos more often then not, they'll have someone in the school you're going to and a big 3-day welcome orientation so you make friends with other students).i stayed with the woman's niece here in my school until i found an appartment smiley.saved me a whole lot in hotel bills grin
IF u can afford it,me thinks its worth it.BEFORE A anybody jumps on me,nooo i'm nt there 'agent' and have no biz with them watsoever.hvnt even kept in touch with anyone from the agency apart from the maple students in my school

Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by wonderbod(f): 2:46pm On Aug 22, 2009
@ FIDELO n all others who followed my story.I got a call frm my agency last night saying i could come pick my visa on monday!
I hv to say they really messed up.Obviously the embassy had been ready to issue the visa same time as fidelo's but because the school we applied to suddenly gave out the spaces of all the students frm the agency(cos dey didnt receive immediate payments),there was no school 4  me to go to. We re-applied to seneca college n after waitin ovr a month for them to send the admission letter,i started harrassin the school with phone calls and e-mail n dey finaly admitted to hav misplaced my application and that of two other guys frm my agency! Apparently, they r not very efficient with their amission thingy n probably because ours came very late but my agency said they've had cases like that wer seneca says dey cant find the applications and they end up getting  admission letters the nxt day in the mail.
I didnt want to wait to c if dat wil happen in my case so Jst this last thursday,we reapplied again to yet another school dt said they had a space for me, i had given up all hope of making it this september cos in d schools i wanted, applications for the popular courses wer closed.
God really came through for me cos i had bin hangin in d balance.there wer times wen i regretted applyin in d first place n giving up d uk admission i had.All the while,i was praying ,it was about the visa.who would hv thought it'll be the schools giving me stress.Last wek, the owner of my agency went to the embassy last week n explained what had been going on and showed the correspondence b/w their office in canada n the schools.they agreed n issued out the visa without me paying my fees or showing a fresh admission letter.they said we culd sort it out either b4 i leave (nxt wk) or wen we get there since every other thin was ok

So, for all you still hoping or having hiccups on the way, what is meant to be definitly will be by the grace of God. kiss

congrats!! i still havn't heard anythin frm dem.i'm so worried.obviously, evryone i kno dt did der medicals same time hav gotten ders.I got a call on my birthday, the 22nd, from a  guy dt used my agency saying his visa is out.needless to say,i was depressed for the rest of the day.
Did u pay your fees earlier? cos i havn't.my agency asked me to wait until d embassy for a receipt of payment b4 i pay.they also had issues wit the school i earlier applied for n d spaces reserved for all der students was given out including mine(i hv d option of stil payin der fees and gettin on a waiting list).  jst  last wk they reapplied to 2 oda  schools (schools dey represent).they assured me i'll definitly get the admission bt now i'm wondering if dt isn't affecting the visa(dey said it wont).i dont kno wat to do anymore. if i had known d process even took dis long,i wouldn't hav started anythin.i'm already out frm d uk school i was going for wen i decided to do canada.ANYONE WITH USEFUL ADVICE PLS? sad sad

Hello house, i was rejected visa after my medical test for canada visa 2005 which i succeeded. The refusal after i was sucessful for interview, was base on my submiting fraudulent statement of account which they verified with the bank. And this made them ban me for 2 years although it has elapsed now.
My question is if i change my date of birth and passport will CDHC still know that i have onced applied since 2005?
If i dont do you think they will issue me visa even if i merit it?

I need answers please.

i think u shuld just b honest.it'll only make ur case worse if they find u out.u dont want major embassies putting u on der blacklist

it depends on wat makes u comfortable what u learnt driving with.
personally,i cant drive without my shoes.i feel like the brakes will slip wen i try to  step on them.although i started doin this jst out of vanity cos my senior colleague said it wasn't chic to drive without my shoes on n she neva wanted 2 c me driving without shoes. so now, from flip-flops to 5 inch hooker heels,i keep them on . whoever sits in the car with me 4 d first time always go 'wow,u drive with such high heels!'.Dependin on the shape of the shoe,i put my foot at a different angle n pull my seat either forward or backwards.
i can never forget one day i was stuck in traffic on ozumba mbadiniwe n our 'brothers'  started robbing from car to car.all i had to do was turn off dmy car n take off!   I WAS WEARING STRAPPY SANDALS WITH SEVERAL BUCKLES.
Business / Re: Which Bank Is The Most Customer Friendly In Nigeria? by wonderbod(f): 9:57am On Jun 29, 2009
BANKING WITH GTB IS BANKING WITH THE BEST,THE FIRST IN TERMS OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICE DELIVERY

INTERCONTINENTAL ARE GOING CRAZY WITH UNNECESSARY CHARGES ON ACCOUNT

I honestly used to think i was the only one that loved GTB soooooo much.i bank with intercon, eco bank, access.i've worked with zenith. but GT? they're just the best among these evil nigerian banks.
10 REASONS I LOVE GUARANTY TRUST BANK
1.their architectural work in EACH branch be it inside the market or in VI just makes. me smile, literally,EVERYTIME i pass one.there are no two that look the same but u just know thats a GTB wen u c it.(Zenith claims its all that but ther buildings r just glorified red and white toilet boxes.trying to cut costs b all means hence there totally uncreativ buildings).
2. Their accounts officers make you feel like u're a billionaire by the way they treat u even tho u kno watsup.i feel guilty everytime i hav a lump sum
until its sitting in one of my gt acc.s. y would i want to giv my money to zenith or others that let u kno u're nothin unless ur acc is bursting with cash?
3. Come the 22nd of this month month,i kno for a fact i'll receive a thotful long txt txt from them wishing me a fantablous or fun-filled(they get creative) yr ahead AND my acc officer will call me. d oda banks jst send cold impersona txts,IF they bother, somthin like , 'Dear john bla bla, full names, ,we wish u a hapy b.day.thnk u for banking wit us'
4.Since i started with them, they CARE to kno how i'm doing at every major event in my life.i got called several times wen i was in NYSC camp.and they wer the only bank in Lagos camp that consistently brot cash on wheels to camp so we never ran out of money.
5. You always leave the bank happy cos they responfd to u promptly.
6.Transactions are always tidy wit no unneccesary charges.
7.No crowd at the banking hall but even wen u meet one,it moves at an amazing speed.
8.Fast mastercard collection and billing.
9.when u see somthin unclear in ur statement, they're willing to take their time to xplain even wen u're askin a stupid question
10.the slogan is just polite and seductive, after all this listed above, WOULDN'T U RATHER BANK WITH THEM?!
Romance / Re: Who Do I Settle For? I Need Help , Time Is Running Out. by wonderbod(f): 9:20am On Jun 29, 2009
Reasons such as good looking, works in a bank, helped you with admission etc are not good enough reasons to choose one man over another.

You need to look carefully at each of these men and picture yourself years down the line with them. You need to question yourself on if they will be good husbands, fathers & in-laws. Yes in-laws!

You want to marry a kind man, a good man, a man of integrity, a honest man but most importantly a Godly man.

Marriage is not something taken lightly so you need to be 100% sure before you step ahead. The fact that you have tabled all three men here tells me that you are having second thoughts about all of them and neither of them is 100% right for you because if any of them was, you would have picked him a long time ago.

When the right man comes along you will know deep in your heart that he is the one.

I advise you nicely tell your north-eastern boyfriend to go stay in relatives.

As for the one leaving his wife because she can’t conceive; isn’t marriage for better for worse? What happens if God forbid you suffer a terrible illness, or disfigured in an accident or can’t conceive yourself? Will he divorce you too?
i also think you should free yourself from all three so you can have a clear head. the married man should obviously be out( if the reason he's leaving the wife is becos she cant conceive.karma's a bitch.(tho u seem to b leaning towards him).the one who's 'almost' hitting you AND living in d same house with u,OUT!
Health / Re: Women After Abortion. by wonderbod(f): 9:08am On Jun 29, 2009
Abortions arent always as gruesome as they are depicted.
Those documentaries usually are made and compiled by the anti-abortionists. It is their duty to give you the worst case secenarios. Watching those videos would make you wonder if the woman waited till a day before her due date before deciding she wanted to terminate the pregnancy. The aborted fetus is well formed with blinking eyes and moving arms!

In reality most abortions are very uneventful and only take a few minutes. They have even been referred to as the lunch time aborton. You're in, you're out and back to work like it never happened.
Not many people feel guilty about their experience. To some there was no oher choice and they would do it again and again if they had to.

P.S
I've always subscribed to safe and protected sex. Hasn't prevention always been better than any cure or fixes?

so true.and its always funny when guys sit bak and wait to critize a lady for having done one when they, most likely hav asked a lady to do one

@ ofueby, the normal processing time after d medicals is 3weeks.y don't u wait it out before contacting them if u still haven't heard from them

@ sophy,i really hope u haven't been scammed.i went through an agency recommended by a colleague.went to their website and called their canadian office.still asked around about them before going ahead with them.i paid them only about  45k to register with them and for them to pay for the school application, nothing again until i got my admission lettert.another 120k with which they did all else---embassy visa fee, police report, affidavits n stuff, they're also paying for my medicals with that). i've already been called to go for my medicals before been asked to pay their visa consultancy fee(refundable if u're refused visa).i still havent been asked to pay my school fees yet.they said i can do that after i have my visa or whenever the embassy thinks its time.   I STARTED WITH THEM 2ND WEEK OF MAY which is y i think ur own is taking faaaar too long.please ask for help.u may need to get rough with that guY you gave ur money.HOPE YOU PAID STRAIGHT TO AN ACCOUNT AND KEPT AN EVIDENCE OF PAYMENT.you may also be better off starting everything afresh while trying to get your money back.GOODLUCK

I think the CDHC are bunch of thieves collecting huge sum of money from agencies that submit student visa application on behalf of their clients

This is because applicant that had gone through these agents fall into the 95% of category being asked to go for medicals and subsequently being given VISA thus neglecting other genuine students who dont have "ghana must go" kind of money to offer agencies

Very soon, they shall be exposed in Jesus name Amen

Haba! u sound very bitter.Personally,i dont think the agencies 'rob' other people of visas.I used one and i'm glad i did.I'm not trying to be rude and i hope this doesn't come across as me been conceited. it is also NOT because i've been called for medicals. I used an agency but mainly because
1.They usually have particular schools they are representing and kno wat each school needs as an admission requirement, that way u don't was
te valuable time applying to a school that won't take u in.You also get your admission letter and other things needed from the school fast since
the agency has their head offiice in canada.
2. u don't have to try to sort everything out on your own(wer to go for police report, who to meet, which bank to pay to,or which bank draft to
use for what et all) .i,for one, can't find my way around lagos.
3. There is always somone for the embassy to reach because someone from the agency goes to d embassy almost everyday either to submit one
application or the other so you quickly know when ther's somethig they need from you not getting there after waitin endlesl at home to find out.
4.They give you the list of what is needed and they impress upon you why u must not bring anything forged and there is a team that takes
time to go over your application and re-package it.(i have heard of several people frm the agency who weren't given visas but when this
happens you see it coming.for example,if u insist on omitting by yourself some of the things that were specifically asked for by the embassy or
you try to blend in forged documents with originals).

4.if and when you do get the visa(they also experience the delays),u won't arrive canada feeling like a fish out of water(i don't know a soul there) because in the same agency
there are probably an average of 10 people headed for the same school you're going to and everyone gets as travel as a group(if u so wish).

DID YOU CONSIDER THAT THE SO CALLED '95%' SUCCESS RATE COMES FROM EXPERIENCE, THEY DO THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN
(AND IN THE CASE OF MY AGENCY,THEY ONLY DEAL WITH CANADA,THEY ARE OLD AND HAVE A REPUTATION TO PROTECT).ASK
YOURSELF,'WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF A VISA BEEN REFUSED IF ITS PACKAGED BY THE PROS(eg DELTA) ON THIS THREAD AND THE APPLICANT
FOLLOWS EVERY ADVICE GIVEN TO HIM OR HER?
no one is saying they don't make money off their clients.Of course they do which is why they remain in bussiness.IF, IF they bribe the
folks at the embassy,i';ll view it same way i''ll view a really good cook adding MAGGI to soup or a very crafty and experienced thief going to a
a baba for 'ode eshi'.
ALL I'M SAYING IS,IF U ARE A VERY BUSY PERSON,A NOT-SO-METICULOUS PERSON OR YOU'RE NEVER STEADY IN ONE PLACE AND U CAN AFFORD A REPUTABLE AGENCY'S SERVICES(MY COLLEAGUE REFERED ME TO THE ONE I'M USING.SHE USED THEM WHEN SHE DID HERS),it just might be the way to go. wink.if u can't afford one or you just don't want to use one, then a thread like this is very helpful.POINT IS,whether you pay for the help or not, just get help. two (OR FIFTY?) heads are better than one.
