Why Nigeria’s national grid collapsed again – FG The latest collapse is the fifth this year. ByOge Udegbunam April 9, 2022 2 min read The federal government said the collapse of the national grid on Friday was caused by “vandalism” on a transmission tower on the Odukpani – Ikot Ekpene 330kV double circuit transmission line, leading to a loss of about 400MW of generation. Isa Sanusi, spokesperson to the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, said this in a statement on Twitter on Saturday. “This consequently led to a cascade of plants shut down across the country,” he said. The affected power plant was recently upgraded alongside Okpai and Alam IV power plants, to contribute 400 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. Electricity companies on Friday notified their customers of the latest grid failure which threw many cities into darkness. “Please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN. We regret all inconvenience caused,” the AbujaElectricity Distribution Company said. “Dear customers, there was a loss of supply as a result of the system collapse of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) about 6:30 p.m. across all our franchise states of Bauchi, Benue, Gombe and Plateau,” Jos electricity distribution company said. The latest collapse is the fifth this year. The Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, had said poor maintenance and shortage of gas were the causes of the collapse. He said steps but had been mitigated by the Presidential Power Initiative to prevent future occurrence. “While a detailed investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the recurring grid failure is currently ongoing by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and System Operator (the operator of the national grid), the process of restoring supply is ongoing with some sections of the national grid already energised and supply restored to consumers,” Mr Sanusi said in the statement. He said the grid was being restored by the system operator as other on-grid power plants were dispatched to cover the lost generation capacity from the Calabar power plant owned by the Niger Power Holding Company Ltd. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/522869-why-nigerias-national-grid-collapsed-again-fg.html?fbclid=IwAR3Lr44dhQB6PgkvZA5tQLjTLniYTw5blVqOU1782ir6q0J5qQxlK_yTiCY

Chief Magistrate Kehinde Ogundare convicted and sentenced the socialite following her guilty plea on Thursday, and evidence by the prosecution. Ogundare held that prosecution proved its case against the socialite beyond any reasonable doubt, according to a statement from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice on Friday. The socialite was first arraigned on March 14 for distributing petrol as a souvenir during her installation party on March 5 at Havillah Event Centre in Lagos State. She pleaded not guilty then but changed her plea to guilty on Thursday when the case came up for hearing. Ogundare sentenced the socialite to three months imprisonment or fine N15, 000 fine on count one of the three-count charge, and one-year imprisonment or N500,000 fine on the second count. The chief magistrate sentenced the socialite to one-year imprisonment or N500,000 fine on the third count. According to Lagos State Government, the socialite violated Section 251(1), 168 (1), 244 of the Criminal Law of the state, 2015, and Section 195 (2)(b) of the Environmental Management Protection Law of the state, 2017. BBNaija: Why I eventually quit teaching for full-time acting-Yousef "Although I went through school and was a teacher, I am not living with my degree now. I am living with my dreams." ByOnu Stephen March 22, 2022 2 min read An ex-housemate of season six ‘Shine Ya Eye’ 2021 episode of BBNaija, Yousef Garba, has revealed why he quit his teaching job to focus on his acting career. Yousef, an Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate from the University of Jos, was a mathematics teacher at Prestige International School, Jos, before he made it to the 2021 BBNaija house. The 30-year-old ex-housemate made this known to PREMIUM TIMES at the premiere of the second series of the Tv Show ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire’ at IMax Cinema in Lekki, Lagos State, over the weekend. Yousef said that he would be quitting his teaching job to enable him to focus on his acting career. The ex-housemate said he did not intend to go back to the classroom as a teacher. “I will work on my dreams of movie-making. I am now into media productions. But, movies have always been my childhood dream.” Further explaining his decision, the reality star said, “you might go to school and get an education, but your dream is still sitting there, you might bag a degree, but you should also chase your dream, yes school is critical, but with your dreams comes happiness. So, although, I went through school and was a teacher, I am not living with my degree now. I am living with my dreams.” Since his eviction, Yousef was recently featured in a comedy skit by famous Instagram skit maker Cute Abiola, where he played the role of an orange seller cum loverboy. Love from his students The ex-housemate noted that climbing the ladder of stardom as a teacher made him feel like a superhero. “It feels amazing. It makes me a superhero because I know that there are a lot of teachers out there who are looking for an opportunity to make a difference in society,” he said. Yousef, as a teacher, enjoyed the love and support of his students while in the house. So when he was nominated for eviction, he spotted his students with placards that bore his name and a call to action pleading for the nominated housemate to be saved. The pictures of the students stirred mixed reactions from members of the online community, with some hailing the young ones to support their teacher’s dream. At the show’s beginning, he told his housemates that he was soulmate-searching and that his students had a crush on him. Biracial advantage Yousef is a biracial Nigerian. His dad hails from Plateau State while his mum is Arabian. According to him, his biracial heritage gave him so much confidence during his stay in the house. He was described as the housemate with nine lives. Two weeks into the show, Yousef was nominated for evictions alongside Niyi, Yerin, and Beatrice, but he scaled through with massive vote margins. His votes sparked several reactions from fans and viewers. Some viewers concluded that Yousef’s votes were from the Arewa youth or northern Nigerian youth. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/entertainment/naija-fashion/518884-bbnaija-why-i-eventually-quit-teaching-for-full-time-acting-yousef.html?fbclid=IwAR2CDcrvagqyZede_fGGxcb14UQCOLaHZzYGdcJ2K4qomzQZ8ibpHNbVZ6U
