Offering to buy GBP Sterling. Up to N3m available. Will buy smaller amounts.

Quote your rate.

You transfer money into my Natwest account in the UK. Upon receipt (if using faster payment it is instant) I transfer into your account in Nigeria. Will also consider paypal.

Since I am requesting your transfer first, I will provide id and proof of funds. Funds are in a merchant bank. If you wish you can independently verify that I am a known customer of theirs or I can provide you documentation of previous transactions going back 3 years.

My need is not urgent or desperate, if the terms are not agreeable nothing spoil.

You can email me at wookies at talk21.com

As long as your contact is acting on your behalf, you are also liable. So I understand his contact is in Indianapolis, so am I. Make we meet

See me see where trouble dey brew.

Look I asked him where he was and and how he was going to safeguard my transaction if I am sending first.

He said Indianapolis, but when I checked his Google profile it said he was in Ukraine. Then he said it was his contact that was in Indianapolis.

If you want to deal with him it is absolutely nothing to do with me.

I just posted my conversation to show the answer I got to the question I asked. Draw whatever conclusion you like but don't tie me in with anything you do.

My bad, he said he's in Indianapolis, and I'm in Indianapolis too. Let's see if he can meet up

Where is he located then?

Bros, Read the emails from the bottom up, the first is from me. Not to hard to figure out who is actually where, consider it part of your due diligence if you want to exchange with him.

If anyone wants to buy from this guy due to trust issue & to weed out scammers I'll serve as the escrow with 0% commission from both parties. The buyer pays naira into my account, he sends USD to the chase account. He sends me & buyer confirmation and buyer tells me to release the money to his naija account. Only transfer charges of #105 will be lost.

Well here is the transcript of my conversation with him. I have redacted both our names and my email address. I have left his email address in the transcript because he already publicised it in his original message. I am not suggesting he is a scammer O!.

Yes I'm in Ukraine my contact is in Indianapolis.
I will not intend to convince you mate cos there's nothing i can say a scammer wouldn't tell you.

Enjoy your day.

You or your contact are welcome to check me out or ask for assurances if you want to do it the reverse way.

From experience, I can tell you there are some traders here you can send money to wherever you are. Even though I'm in the US, I know who to deal with in Nigeria, not just a random trader

I don't doubt you at all. However I can never do it. Have you ever had a transaction go wrong in Nigeria? I have. Somebody in Nigeria who I was introduced to by a family friend bought GBP from me. Because he was introduced and they vouched strongly for him, I agreed to go first and pay his pounds. I week later I never see my naira and thats when you realise that if anything goes wrong on the Nigerian end of the transaction you are essentially helpless. The friend who introduced us just sent email and sympathised. Fortunately for me the entities he had asked me to send money to where subject to the Proceeds of Crime Act and under threat from me they returned my GBP to me direct.

But basically after all assurances if anything goes wrong on the Nigerian end there is little or nothing you can do, regardless people always expect the Nigerian end of the txn to go first.

@oxsam88

There is no circumstance under which it would make sense to send first into a country where neither of you are present. Your counterparty cannot offer you any safeguards. That's the point.
Business / Re: How Much Did You Exchange The Dollar For Today? by wooks: 9:21pm On Jun 13, 2016
I have never done a transaction here but would like to make an observation.

Last week I tried to connect with a couple of people who like me are in the US. They wanted naira in Nigeria and I had naira in Nigeria I wanted to sell.

Naturally they wanted me to send my money first which I declined to do and in either case we didn't deal.

Now I'm not suggesting either was trying to scam and in fact this also applied to a transaction I tried to do with a neighbour here in USA. They always want the transact in Nigeria to go first.

If you are both in the same jurisdiction the transaction that should be done first is the one that is in the same jurisdiction that you are both in because if that goes wrong you are covered by the laws of the country you are both in. Hence there are safeguards for both of you that simply do not apply if the two of you initiate a transaction in a foreign jurisdiction.

I have a large amount of GBP to sell. My terms are you credit the N equivalent to Kakawa Discount House with my name as beneficiary and then receive a bank transfer - you provide sort code and account number. Alternatively I can send money via paypal as long as it is fee free (or you agree to pay whatever fee they charge). I know USD paypal can be sent free but I am not so sure about GBP.

Abeg I am not a currency trader and I don't want to get into argument with people who are paranoid about scamming. If my terms don't suit you please don't respond.

I have done several transactions in the past but need a better rate this time than my regular counterparty is offering that is why I am posting here.

My email is wookies at talk21.com If you are interested I am happy to discuss bona fides with you.
Properties / Uncle Sold My Dead Father's Land by wooks: 1:30pm On Nov 04, 2013
I am in the USA, the first son of my father and born abroad. My father died intestate last year. He owned land and properties in Nigeria but he left the papers in Nigeria. For the purpose of this post I presume they have fallen into the hands of his brothers in Nigeria.

My dad's younger brother sold some of the my dads land without informing me and has used the money to set up a business. I would like to recover my fathers land but am not financially capable of travelling to Nigeria so I have given a cousin who is a law student power of attorney to attend to matters on my behalf.

I do not have a single document relating to the land. My claim to the property relies on my ability to prove that I am the first son and that there was no will. My thought is to try and evicting the buyer from the land on grounds that he did not buy from the lawful owner and let him sort out his issues with the person he gave money to.

I would appreciate some advice as I don't know what I am getting into.

Business / Hedging The Naira by wooks: 4:56pm On Apr 15, 2012
How do you hedge against a falling naira.

I presume Naira forwards and futures are not available, so what do you do. I guess you could hedge against something that is strongly correlated to the naira.

For instance if a strengthening dollar correlated to a weakening in the naira then one could hedge against a strengthening dollar.

appreciate any enlightment thanks.

I have said if una no want there is no wahala and I am not inclined to engage in argument.

I'm not interested in your escrow service thank you. If you too are not interested in my pounds sterling it's fine. There is no need to insult me or accuse me of something I haven't done.

I'm not asking anybody to trust me. Just pointing out the factual circumstance and what I think are the safeguards surrounding a deal with me.

Even though some of what you say doesn't really makes sense, if the safeguards are not sufficient for you it's fine.

Note I managed to decline your escrow service without calling them scammers.

In future try and do the same.
Business / Re: Pounds Sterling For Sale. Want Naira. by wooks: 8:57pm On Mar 30, 2012
Just to answer some of the issues brought up.

1. No I don't know how easy it is open an account with fake ID because I am not a scammer.

2. If I really wanted to scam you guys it would be far easier to do it with dollars not pounds because there is more demand for dollars. Come to think of it I am not even after foreign currency I am after naira.

3. I will give the name of the institution. You can go to the Central Bank website and get their contact information to get independent verification. The head of customer services will verify that I am an established customer on whose behalf they are holding securities and a genuine overseas investor. He/she knows that I have been trying to change money to buy securities for some weeks now.

I cannot chop your money and run without liquidating my holdings with them abi? You will get your pounds the same day whereas I will not be able to liquidate my position in that time to run away with your money.

4. I am new to Nairaland and do not know the trustworthiness of the escrow services being suggested, so we are in catch 22. In essence I am suggesting that the merchant bank can act as a sort of escrow.

5. I am looking for a transaction in the region of N5-7m. Once I find a counterparty and we complete he can post here and that will be the end of it. I have a fixed amount once it is changed that will be it. No incredibly large amounts, no enticingly cheap exchange rate, no ongoing offer to change and no ongoing scam.

6. If after this you remain unconvinced. No wahala. Nothing spoil. Just remember I have been respectful.
Business / Pounds Sterling For Sale. Want Naira. by wooks: 8:15am On Mar 30, 2012
Looking for a counterparty for a private transaction.

I recently opened an account with a CBN approved institution (one of the merchant banks).

1. You send your naira to their account with the funds marked for me as beneficiary.

2. I send my pounds to your nominated bank account in the UK.

I will not send my money until the merchant bank confirm receipt of your funds.

How do you know I won't cheat you. Simple.

I had to provide all kinds of identification to open my account with the institution.

Any funny business from me and the police can identify me from the documents lodged in the bank.

Secondly because the money is not being sent to a private account you will have my real name, from which I can also be identified.

Serious offer to transact today.
