PoliticsTrump: Why Nigeria Must Tread Cautiously by WORDSENSEI(op): 9:10am On Nov 10, 2025
When the President of the United States speaks, the world listens. And when the U.S. President happens to be Donald John Trump — outspoken, unpredictable, and a master of messaging to his support base — his words do not merely echo; they reverberate. They shift diplomatic atmospheres. They alter global conversations.

So, when President Trump stated openly and categorically that “Christians in Nigeria are being systematically killed, and what is happening is genocide”, it was not an offhand remark. It was not a casual whisper. It was a deliberate declaration — from the world’s most powerful political office — about our country.

Nigeria reacted immediately, as expected. Government spokesmen rebuffed the statement. Analysts retreated to familiar trenches. Religious groups heard the words through the filter of their fears, hopes, suspicions, and historical grievances. But there is one thing Nigeria must understand: This is not a comment to respond to emotionally. It is a diplomatic moment that requires caution, intelligence, subtlety, and strategic thinking.
For whatever anyone thinks about Donald Trump — whether they consider him a populist firebrand or rabble-rouser or a defender of Christian values — one thing is clear: He holds in his hands the steering wheel of American foreign policy.

And American foreign policy has long arms. It reaches the United Nations. It influences global sanctions. It determines international military cooperation. It shapes perception, aid, security assistance, and diplomatic standing. Nigeria cannot afford a reckless response.

‘Genocide' is not just a word. The term genocide is the most serious and consequential accusation in international law. It is not rhetoric. It is a legal trigger. When the President of the United States uses the word, it has implications: It invites global NGOs and human rights organizations to intensify investigations. It may influence congressional hearings and sanctions discussions. It places Nigeria under diplomatic spotlight and moral scrutiny.
It emboldens some domestic groups and threatens others. It can be used as justification for international intervention proposals. Nigeria must understand that Trump’s statement is not merely political, it has the potential to reshape narratives and policy responses beyond our borders.

Let’s face reality

Let us be frank. Let us be honest. Let us not hide behind comforting national slogans. There are Christian families in Southern Kaduna who buried their dead with tears that have not dried. There are communities in Plateau where mass graves had become too familiar. There are villages in Benue where farmers have abandoned ancestral homes. There are pastors who have been abducted and killed. There are worshippers massacred during vigils. All these certainly pre-dating the Bola Tinubu administration even as insecurity still struts the land despite efforts by the administration to tame the monster. A lot more, we must admit, still needs to be done. These are facts. Denying pain does not heal wounds. It deepens them.

But there is more complexity. Muslim communities, we acknowledge, have also been affected, no matter how minimal compared to Christians’, in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Niger.

The Nigerian crisis is not a neat Christian-versus-Muslim binary. It is a storm of: Ethnic contestation. Resource scarcity. Land pressure. Criminal opportunism. Extremist infiltration. Weak security response. And political manipulation. But when a U.S. President frames it as genocide, the complexity risks being erased by a single, powerful narrative.

Why what Trump said matters

President Trump’s political base is strongly evangelical. For years, American evangelical mission groups, watchdog organizations and advocacy networks have raised alarms about the killing of Christians in Nigeria. In their worldview, Nigeria is the frontline of ‘Christian persecution’ in Africa. Trump knows this. He speaks to this audience. His message served strategic purposes: Signal solidarity to his evangelical constituency; reaffirm his global posture as a defender of Christianity and pressure Nigeria diplomatically to act more decisively on rural and communal insecurity.

Agree with him or not — the statement was not accidental. This is why Nigeria must not respond carelessly, must not dismiss him as misinformed, and must never assume this will blow over by itself. It will not. When Washington sets a narrative, the world listens.

The danger of an emotional response

Nigeria must resist the urge to lash out with nationalist indignation, claim insulted sovereignty or lecture the U.S. on internal affairs. Diplomacy is not street argument. National dignity is not expressed in chest-beating. Foreign relations are not run with anger.

A defensive, aggressive response could only achieve the following: Harden Washington's position, push Congress toward sanctions proposals, damage military cooperation agreements, empower groups claiming the Nigerian state is anti-Christian and deepen religious suspicion at home. We must instead respond with maturity.

What Nigeria must say

Nigeria’s messaging should be firm, measured, humane, and strategic: “Nigeria is a multi-religious nation. Yes, killings have occurred. Yes, Christians have suffered. But others, including Muslims have also suffered. Violence is driven by multiple and overlapping factors — criminality, extremism, climate pressures, ethnic tensions — not state-sponsored genocide. We welcome cooperation to strengthen security, accountability, and peace.” This is how nations protect dignity without inviting danger.

The role of religious leaders

This is not the time for pastors and imams to turn pulpits into battle platforms. We need restraint, peace messaging, bridge-building, interfaith solidarity. Nigeria is too fragile for triumphalism. When leaders preach fire, followers bleed.

What is at stake is national unity

This is not about Trump. It is not about Washington. It is not about diplomatic vocabulary. It is about whether Nigeria can prevent communities from seeing each other as enemies. Because once a nation is divided along religious lines, history has shown that rebuilding trust becomes almost impossible. Lebanon tried. Iraq tried. Sudan tried. Yugoslavia tried. We know how those stories ended. Nigeria must not even begin that road. Every misstep has consequences. Every emotional reaction has ripple effects. President Trump has spoken. The world is watching. Nigeria must now choose the path of calm, strategy, sensitivity, diplomacy and internal truth-telling.

We do not defend Nigeria by denying pain. We defend Nigeria by healing it. We do not protect unity by shouting louder. We protect unity by listening deeper. Nigeria must tread softly — not out of fear — but out of wisdom. For the destiny of over 200 million people is too precious to gamble on pride or ego.

PoliticsHow Fubara Orchestrated Burning Of Rivers Assembly, Pipeline Bombings - Fmr Hos by WORDSENSEI(op): 9:48pm On Mar 28, 2025
The former, Head of Service, Rivers State, Dr. George Nweke has alleged that the suspended governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara was behind the chaos that threatened the stability of the state.

In a press briefing held on Friday, Nweke revealed that he voluntarily vacated his position, contrary to claims in the media that he was fired or pressured to resign.

The former HoS added that Fubara, during his time as the Rivers State governor directed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie to burn down the River State House of Assembly complex as part of his plans to evade impeachment.

Daring Fubara to deny the accusation, Nweke claimed he was present when the suspended governor bribed Ehie to destroy the residential quarters of the House of Assembly members in the state, adding that their plan was thwarted by stakeholders in the South-South state.

He said, “With the loads of misinformation on print and electronic media, I have chosen to put the record straight, I was not sacked neither was I pressured to resign, I did it willingly from the depth of my heart, however as an insider and a key player in this administration by my position, who worked closely with Siminilayi Fubara, it will be unfair for me to keep silent or not to address some key factors that has affected or will affect our state if we continue on this trajectory.

“I want to use this medium to thank Mr. President for a swift intervention in Rivers State crisis especially on the state of emergency that was declared and assented to by the National Assembly.

“You will recall that when the governor was suspended, as the head of service I was the next in command so I am not speaking from outside, I am speaking as an insider. If not for the intervention of Mr. President Nigeria would have faced the worst economic sabotage and Rivers State would have been up in flames.

“First, it all started with the Rivers State House of Assembly were the Governor, Siminilayi Fubara directed his Chief of Staff (Edison Ehie) to burn down the assembly in a way to avert his impeachment, that evening Edison was in government house with two other boys, including the former Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA one Chijioke. I was there with them when a bag of money was handed over to Edison for that operation, though I do not know the amount inside.”

Additionally, the former HoS stated, “A day after that incident, I almost resigned but I was very scared because I know the power of a sitting governor and he knew that I am aware of the whole plan and that I am discomforted with the unconscionable act and deliberate posture of innocence and mien of a sheep.

“Another attempt was also made to destroy the residential quarters of the house of assembly members if not for the press conference that was made there by Rivers youths, Rivers elders and National Assembly members, that would have been another barbaric demolition in Rivers State.”

Nweke added that Fubara told him that he would have pulled down the hall of the Assembly members before visiting the residential quarters and that he was shocked at the former governor’s readiness to destroy his state assets and waste public funds on a needless ego fight.

He continued, “Thirdly I want to advice some key stakeholders who has condemned the state of emergency made by the President and confirmed by the National Assembly to retract their statements, I also understand that they are only seeing the surface. If the President did not take proactive step, no one knows who would have been affected by the sinister plans that were cooking.”

Nweke thanked President Bola Tinubu for his timely intervention in the crisis in the state, adding that his decision brought about peace in Rivers.

While I thank Mr. president for the state of emergency that was declared in Rivers State for a period of 6months, I will plead with him not to give up on Rivers State affairs because a lot are going on there with governor Fubara. One of the factors that got me removed was when governor Fubara told me that they will use the Ijaws to decide who will become the next president of Nigeria and I asked him how will that work? Is it by votes or by what means?

He clearly told me that he is the chief security officer of Rivers State and his brother is in charge of Bayelsa State and all the pipelines are under their care that at the appropriate time they will tell the boys what to do and fund was not an issue. That was why when he made that statement in his public function that “I will tell the boys what to do at the appropriate time” I knew something was up and perhaps the time was near.

He boasted to be the “David that will bring down the Goliath of Rivers State.” That he has the backing of the cream-de-la cream in the state. The likes of Dr. Peter Odili and family promised to use their contacts in the judiciary including some members of their University Council to break new ground for him.

The plan was to start from non-Ijaw speaking areas to destroy oil facilities to remove attention from the Ijaw and make it have a statewide look. . The Ogoni, Oyibo, Ahoda areas were to be bombed first before the Ijaw zones. This would have brought down the government of President Tinubu and usher in a new President from the coalition of political parties with a Vice President from the Ijaws.

The media was to be captured by paying heavily for airtime and retaining the social media influencers and known social critics in their payroll. I am not unaware of what this revelation means but I am doing this to free my conscience and warn those innocent persons that are used to sway public sentiment, that there is more than meet the eyes in the Rivers matter.

Sometime, I sleep over in government house but I started being uncomfortable when Gov. Bala Mohammed and some other stakeholders started nocturnal visits to Rivers State. I recalled after one of such visits he told me that he will support Bala Mohammed for president or any other northerner. That discussion are ongoing. Though, I was not bothered about who he support but I was more concerned about the quantum of state resources that he releases to theses visitors at each visit.
Let me also draw the attention of Nigeria Labour Congress to call the Chairman of their Rivers State chapter to order to avoid politicizing Labour. I am privy to several private meetings between the Governor and the Labour leader in the state and the largesse that accompanied each meeting to compromise the Labour Union.

More worrisome is several meetings between the governor, his chief of staff and some militant leaders. The details of which meetings I am not privy to since I was not allowed into the meetings. However, each meeting ended with huge sum of money paid to attendees.

I wish to state categorically that Rivers people and indeed Nigerians are the beneficiary of the declaration of state of emergency rule in Rivers State and not Gov. Fubara or Minister Wike.

Finally, I wish to call on Mr. President to urge the Sole Administrator to step up his guards and be very vigilant because I am aware of the sinister arrangement and dastardly plans to continue to hatch their plans if not put in check. This account for the organized media condemnations and seeming public outcry against Mr. President and National Assembly.

PoliticsThreat Of Violence: Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress Slams Okaba, INC by WORDSENSEI(op): 4:50pm On Mar 09, 2025
Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress, RIPCO, has come down hard on individuals and groups, threatening violence over the Supreme Court judgment on the Rivers political imbroglio.

Rising from a meeting, RIPCO, in a statement signed by its leader, Senator George Thompson Sekibo; DG, Dr Rowland Sekibo and Secretary General, Hon. Erastus Awortu, deprecated the language of threat to violence by Professor Benjamin Okaba- led Ijaw National Congress, following unsubstantiated impeachment plot against Gov Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule.

They advised Okaba and INC to prevail on Gov. Fubara to comply fully with the Supreme Court ruling, instead of stoking ethnic and tribal fires.

In a 10-point communique, RIPCO said, "However, it is deeply troubling that certain individuals, including Professor Benjamin Ogele Okaba, the President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC),among others, have resorted to threats of violence and destruction, including targeting vital oil and gas infrastructure in Rivers State and the wider Niger Deltaregion. These calls for violence are not only reckless but also profoundly misguided. It is one thing to disagree with a judicial decision; still, it is entirely different to resort to destructive and unlawful actions that threaten the lives and livelihoods of innocent people in the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole."

It noted that, "The Supreme Court Judgment is not based on ethnicity. The Supreme Court's judgment was not based on ethnic considerations or the notion of the Ijaws opposing another ethnic group. It was rendered in strict accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law.

"This was a judicial intervention in a legal dispute, not an ethnic or political contest. It is crucial that we all understand and respect the supremacy of the law."

PoliticsKemi (badenoch), Bad Knocks And Storm In A Tea Cup by WORDSENSEI(op): 10:55am On Dec 16, 2024
The recent comments by British Conservative Party Leader, Kemi Badenoch, have ignited a fierce debate, with some questioning her remarks about her country of origin, Nigeria.

In her remarks, Badenoch seemingly ridiculed Nigeria, prompting a sharp response from Nigeria’s Vice-President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima. He condemned her statements as “unstatesmanlike,” drawing comparisons to other leaders like former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former US President Barack Obama, who never disparaged their countries of origin.

Despite the Vice-President’s riposte, Badenoch has doubled down on her criticism, stating that she is “not an image launderer for Nigeria.”

This exchange, THISNIGERIA believes, opens up a broader conversation about the complexities of diasporic identities. The reality is that not all diasporic citizens share the same emotional connection to their countries of origin.

For some, their homeland is a source of pride, and they strive to elevate their global standing. For others, there is a sense of indifference, while some, like Badenoch, may express frustration or bitterness. After all, the experiences of diasporic individuals vary greatly, often shaped by personal journeys, encounters with systemic challenges, and societal perceptions.

On the surface, therefore,Badenoch’s comments may seem jarring, even disrespectful. But her words also shine a light on a much broader and nuanced reality, one that speaks to the varying attitudes of diasporic citizens toward their countries of origin.

It is, consequently, no surprise that Badenoch has chosen to express dissatisfaction with Nigeria. Her criticism could be seen as merely one voice in a spectrum of diasporic perspectives.

Across the world, many individuals have chosen to distance themselves from their countries of origin for various reasons, including historical grievances, personal experiences, or political disillusionment. For instance, the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States, while largely proud of their heritage, has also been vocal about their country’s leadership and governance issues, and similarly, the Jamaican diaspora has seen figures who have been critical of the economic conditions back home.

Similar controversies have emerged involving public figures from diasporic backgrounds who have publicly criticized or distanced themselves from their countries of origin. The case of former British Prime Minister, David Cameron, whose father was born in Scotland, and the tensions between Scottish independence advocates and those loyal to the UK, is one example where national identity has been at odds with political leadership. Similarly, the issue of dual loyalties in the United States has sparked debates for years, particularly with individuals like Senator Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada but holds firm to his American identity.

Even in countries with a long history of immigration, such as Canada, controversies have arisen around the question of loyalty to one’s homeland. The rise of populist political figures who embrace nationalistic ideologies has prompted individuals of immigrant backgrounds to grapple with their identity, and, in some cases, express dissatisfaction with their countries of origin.

However, THISNIGERIA believes that while this issue may seem like just another example of an individual airing their grievances, it is important to note the larger implications of such remarks. Kemi Badenoch’s position as a prominent political figure makes her comments all the more significant, and her unapologetic stance could be perceived as an erosion of diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the UK. At a time when global cooperation is more crucial than ever, such statements could serve to undermine the relationship between the two nations.

Her double-down position could potentially backfire in the future, both politically and diplomatically. In an increasingly interconnected world, where global reputations are fragile and interdependencies are growing, alienating one’s roots can have lasting consequences. Badenoch may find that her comments, intended as an assertion of independence or pragmatism, could become a liability. The public perception of her disloyalty could be seen as an attack not only on Nigeria but also on the broader African diaspora, potentially eroding the goodwill of key communities that are crucial to her political career.

Yet, it would be a mistake to view Badenoch’s comments in isolation. It is also an opportunity for reflection on the state of Nigeria’s development and its global image. Nigeria, as a nation, has long faced challenges relating to corruption, infrastructure, security, and governance. While the country boasts immense potential, including a rich cultural heritage, a vibrant economy, and a youthful population, it has struggled to translate these assets into broad-based prosperity. THISNIGERIA holds the strong view that Badenoch’s remarks should be viewed not just as an expression of bitterness but as a wake-up call for the nation to take a hard look at its shortcomings and work towards self-improvement.

The reality is that Nigeria has its share of internal challenges, and while we may rightfully defend the nation’s honour when criticised abroad, we must also confront the issues that fuel such critiques. If Nigeria does not address its development challenges, it risks more figures like Badenoch speaking out against it, further tarnishing the image of the country and distancing itself from the global community.

Kemi Badenoch’s comments may have been harsh, but they are hardly an anomaly in the broader discourse on diasporic identity. It is a reminder that while many in the diaspora work to uplift their countries of origin, some will inevitably express disappointment and disillusionment. However, Nigeria must look beyond the inflammatory remarks and use this as an opportunity to reflect, grow, and address its long-standing developmental issues. Badenoch may have spoken out of frustration, but the nation must seize this moment to turn the tide.

We believe that If Nigeria’s leadership can create a stronger, more prosperous nation, the love and respect from the diaspora will follow, turning criticisms into constructive dialogue. The controversy, therefore, could very well be a storm in a teacup, one that could fizzle out, but it could also be a catalyst for change if Nigeria takes the right steps forward.

PoliticsCourt Stops CBN From Releasing Allocation To Rivers State Government by WORDSENSEI(op): 10:42am On Oct 30, 2024
The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN from further releasing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers state government.

The court held that the receipt and disbursement of monthly allocations since January this year by governor Siminalayi Fubara is a Constitutional sommersault and aberration that must not be allowed to continue.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik who issued the order on Wednesday held that the presentation of the 2024 budget by Fubara before a 4-member Rivers House of Assembly was an affront to the Constitutional provision.

Specifically, the Judge said that Fubara action in implementing unlawful budget smacked gross violations of the 1999 Constitution he swore to protect.

The judge therefore restrainined CBN, Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank and Access Bank from further allowing Fubara to access money from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.

Nairaland GeneralMassive Gully Erosion Threatens Over 400 Residential Buildings In Anambra by WORDSENSEI(op): 5:20pm On Sep 02, 2023
The massive gully erosion, which recently cut into two the ever-busy Onitsha - Owerri expressway, is likely to sweep away over 400 residential buildings including the popular Rojenny Sports Village located in Oba, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State.

All the buildings are on the verge of caving into the gully that has caused huge devastation in the area.

At the moment, the Onitsha - Owerri Express lane of the road has completely collapsed into the gully and is currently not in use.

Motorists and pedestrians have been forced to be diverted to use alternative areas, thereby moving within the area a Herculean task for several hours.

Also not left out by the devastation is the popular Rojenny Sports and Games Village which is being eaten up by the gully erosion.

The huge flood water from the erosion has destroyed the tartan track of the 30,000-capacity sports stadium complex, lawn tennis and handball pitches, courts and lawns respectively.

A petrol station within the location has also been cut into two while and a two-star hotel has since commenced evacuation of moveable properties over the fear the gully erosion.

More worrisome is that the other remaining lane of the Expressway is deeply being eaten up even as it is currently being shared by motorists to and from Onitsha and Owerri.

Chairman of Idemili South local government area, Iyom Amaka Obi, who conducted newsmen round the mostly affected gully erosion and spoke through the two Councilors representing Oba Ward 1, Mr Uchechukwu Ubadi and Mr Nzubechukwu Ibe, said that all measures taken to checkmate the ravaging gully erosion have been destroyed by flood water.

She stated that the water channels constructed about three months ago had collapsed into the gully.

According to her, "When the state government came here with their counterparts from the Federal government, it was not as wide and as deep as this. As the rains continue, it will keep widening"

"As it stands now over 400 buildings and several hectares of undeveloped lands are at risk and the worst of it all is that the gully would first of all eat deep under the expressway, leaving the road hanging like a cliff.

"When it started, we had to dump refuse into the gully last year and with the help of Anambra State Waste Management Agency, we used the refuse to control the flow of flood but the owners of those empty lands stopped us from doing that accusing us of trying to take over their property so we stopped and ASWAMA had used the refuse to check another erosion site in Nnewi "

"Since we stopped, the gully has deepened and many houses are going down every day. With the rate of rainfall, only God can save those buildings and their owners" she lamented.

The Chief Consultant to Rojenny Sports Village, Engr Jonny Obinwa explained that the flood water causing the erosion flows from Ichi, Nnobi, Ojoto Uruagu- Oba to the gully.

*The flood causing this gully erosion flows from Ichi, Nnobi Ojoto Uruagu-Oba communities in Idemili South local government area, and because the gutters and water channels are too small for the flood, it is overcarrying the channels away and dumping them into the gully erosion"

"As you can see the walls of the Games Village have collapsed as well and some parts of the spectators' stand of the stadium have also collapsed. The lawn tennis and handball pitches and courts have been submerged by flood as well as the Olympic-sized swimming pool.

"The Stadium has a capacity of 30, 000 spectators but with what is happening now we need a lot of work to protect the sporting facilities that are in the Games Village"

"This is a facility that has hosted over twenty National football teams both Supper Eagles, Under 20 and 17 set of teams and today the flood is ravaging everywhere.

"As you can see, the gully erosion behind the stadium is growing and it will soon link the gully erosion that has cut off the Onitsha - Owerri Express Way" he stated

PoliticsPDP Crisis: BOT Member, ABC Nwosu Resigns by WORDSENSEI(op): 8:16am On Jan 13, 2023
A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Professor ABC Nwosu, has resigned his membership from the party.

Nwosu announced his decision in a letter dated Thursday, January 12 and addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP,  Iyorchia Ayu.

He stated that the reason for his resignation was due to the "breach in the rotational presidency principle" of the party.

He also said it was "a matter of conscience and principle because of the party’s inability to adhere to the rotation in its constitution."

He stated further: "The journey to rotational presidency between the North and South of the country has been an arduous one, and I have been involved. Nigeria and the Peoples Democratic Party must learn to keep to an agreement reached by a Constituent Assembly (1995) and enshrined in the party’s (PDP) constitution (1998).

THISNIGERIA reports that the party has been enmeshed in crisis since the emergence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate of the party.

The crisis escalated after Ayu adamantly refused to resign as the National Chairman of the party as he had promised to do, should the presidential candidate emerge from the North.

The PDP G-5 governor led by Governors Nyesom Wike and Samuel Ortom, alongside other governors: Seyi Makinde, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, have maintained that Ayu steps down as chairman of the party as both the presidential candidate and national chairman cannot come from the same zone.

However, the duo have remained defiant to the demand.

PoliticsAyu was resurrected from gutters to become chairman - Wike by WORDSENSEI(op):
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has berated the Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu over his comment on calls for his resignation.

Ayu, in an interview with BBC Hausa, had said that "children’ who didn’t know why the party was formed can’t be calling for his resignation."

“I have not violated any rules; in fact, I am working to bring reforms to the party. I am truly not bothered by the unnecessary controversy being generated.

“When we started PDP, these children were not around. They are children who do not know why we formed the party. We will not allow any individual to destabilise our party,” he said.

Reacting to the comment, Wike, while speaking at the commissioning of a project in Ikwerre Local Government, described Ayu as a "greedy man who was only after his own selfish interests."

The Governor added that when the party suffered in 2015, Ayu was a "prodigal father who was nowhere to be found."

"Ayu was resurrected from the gutters to become the PDP national chairman. He was a nobody prior to attaining the position," Wike said.

Also speaking at the event, a PDP chieftain, Bode George knocked Ayu over the comment, describing him as immature.

"How can you call grown men "children" for demanding your resignation as chairman? Are you saying they should not grow?," George asked.

The elderstatesman also backed Wike's call for Ayu's resignation, saying his continued refusal was causing an imbalance for the party.

"I am calling for an immediate resignation flof Ayu as PDP chairman. He should step down honourably because he had promised to do so if the party's presidential candidate emerged from the North.

"His leadership is causing an imbalance within the party. How can both the chairman and presidential candidate be Northerners? He should do the honourable thing and resign immediately," Bode George said.

PoliticsPDP Reconciliation: Atiku, Wike Team Meet In Port Harcourt by WORDSENSEI(op): 7:28pm On Aug 19, 2022
The reconciliation meeting between the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Friday held in Port Harcourt.

Both men were represented by the teams they selected.

After a heated marathon meeting at the Rivers State Government House, the Committee drove to Wike’s residence to brief him on their deliberation.

Atiku's team led by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri is also expected to brief Atiku on issues raised at the meeting.

A source who spoke with ThisNigeria said that discussions would continue on how to harmonise the positions canvassed by the two camps, especially on the Iyorchia Ayu issue.

While Wike's team reportedly insisted on the sack of Ayu as a first step to meaningful resolution given "his patently partisan position in the primary that produced Atiku", Atiku's team proposed that the party dissolves its entire National Working Committee (NWC), not just sacking Ayu."

"At the end of the meeting, the two teams could not reach an agreement, on the issue" hence the need to consult with their principals," the source said.

In attendance from Atiku's team were Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, Senator Eyitayo Jegede, SAN while Wike's camp was represented by former Attorney General of the Federation, and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN; former governor of Ondo State, Mr Olusegun Mimiko and former Gombe State Governor, Dr Ibrahim Dankwambo and Senator Olaka Nwogu.

ThisNigeria reported that the meeting was earlier slated for Monday, August 15th. However, Atiku's team cancelled at the last minute to attend the presidential candidate's homecoming event in Yola.

The meeting is part of efforts to reconcile the two politicians as it is being rumoured that other political parties have been wooing Wike ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He has received visits from high-profile politicians which include presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; All Progressives Congress (APC) governors; Ekiti State Goveror, Kayode Fayemi with his Lagos and Ondo counterparts, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Rotimi Akeredolu, presidential candidate of NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi among others

PoliticsPDP Reconciliation Meeting Stalled As Atiku's Team Fail To Show Up by WORDSENSEI(op): 6:42pm On Aug 15, 2022
A reconciliation meeting scheduled to take place today between Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike's camp and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar's camp failed to take place.

A source in Wike's team, who spoke to ThisNigeria, said that the meeting failed to hold due to the failure of Atiku’s team to show up in Port Harcourt.

"We were already set to hold the meeting today. People had travelled from far and near for this reconciliation meeting, only for Atiku's team to send a message at the last minute that they would be absent for the meeting due to the homecoming reception being held for the presidential candidate in Yola today.

"They claimed that they thought the meeting was scheduled to hold this Friday, hence their decision to attend a homecoming reception instead.

"This development has really riled up some of the people who have been putting efforts into ensuring peace among the two politicians as they feel disrespected by Atiku's team.

"This has also shown that they (Atiku's camp) have no interest in ending the crisis rocking PDP any time from now because what is more important? Restoring normalcy to the party or a homecoming event that could have held at any other given time? We will keep our fingers crossed but this is not encouraging at all," the source said.

ThisNigeria reported that the meeting is part of efforts to reconcile Wike and Atiku as it is being rumoured that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is making overtures to the oil-rich governor of the South-South state.

According to a member of the House of Representatives, representing Rivers State, Solomon Bob, the rift between Atiku and Governor Wike was triggered by disinformation, adding that it was the disinformation put out by “Atiku’s men” before and after the party’s primary that contributed to the crisis that rocked the party.

Some of the disinformation, he said, included the claim that the governor was unsatisfied with results of the party’s primary and wanted to be named the running mate of the presidential candidate.

Politics2023: Tinubu’s Choice Of Running Mate Is Terrible – Adegboruwa by WORDSENSEI(op): 7:33pm On Jul 10, 2022

ThisNigeria reported that Tinubu confirmed Shettima as his running mate during a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

Reacting to the news, Adegboruwa, in a statement on Sunday described it as a “terrible choice.”

“It is a terrible choice, in one million ways!!!

“Nigerians, whether Muslims, Christians, Traditionalists, etc, should reject APC with their votes come 2023.
