PoliticsEid-el-kabir: Buhari Departs Abuja For Katsina by WORDSENSEI(op): 6:05pm On Jul 08, 2022
President Muhammadu Buhari has departed for his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Buhari left Abuja after he received briefing from security chiefs on latest development on Tuesday’s terrorist attack on Kuje Custodial Centre.

Confirming this to State House correspondents after the meeting of the National Security Council, presided over by the president on Friday in the State House, Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, said heads of security agencies briefed the president on what actually happened in Kuje and the way forward.

The minister quoted the president as directing the Armed Forces and other security agencies to take the necessary action towards ensuring that such incidents do not happen again.

He said: “The President was deeply concerned about these developments and he initiated today’s meeting, to enable security agencies, service chiefs, the Inspector General police, to brief the Council on what actually happened and the way forward.

“The Service Chiefs have been given very clear directives to ensure that adequate measures are taken not only to investigate what happened, but also to take steps to forestall the occurrence of such incidents.

“We had a very successful meeting and the meeting has agreed to take proactive measures that will ensure that a repeat of what happened these few days will not be witnessed anymore.”

Dingyadi assured Nigerians of a full scale investigation into the attack, as he solicited for their support in fighting all forms of criminality.

Sanwo-Olu, Fayemi, Akeredolu meet with Wike
“The President is surprised that what happened in Kuje actually took place in spite of all the security arrangements that have been made to ensure that such an incident does not happen.

“We are assuring the nation and Nigerians in general, that arrangements have been made to ensure that full investigations are carried out and to ensure that a repeat of the incidents will not occur.

“We call on Nigerians to continue to support the federal government in the effort to ensure that we fight criminalities to finish and to ensure that this country is brought back to normalcy in a more secure and a more peaceful atmosphere,” he said.

According to him, the government and its security agencies are committed to ensuring that there is peace and tranquility as Nigeria moves towards the 2023 general election.

PoliticsWe Will Go Wherever Wike Goes, Ekiti PDP Vows by WORDSENSEI(op): 11:44am On Jun 24, 2022
The Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to support any action taken by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, over the ill-treatment meted on him by some forces within the party.

In a letter titled "THANK YOU GOVERNOR NYESOM WIKE. ON YOUR MANDATE WE STAND", signed by some prominient members of the party and published in a national newspaper, the Ekiti PDP appreciated Wike's support for the party, "despite the conspiracy against him and former Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose."

"Our leader and benefactor, this short note is nothing but appreciation for your support to our party in Ekiti, our leader Ayo Fayose and his followers. You stood so firmly with us, depsite the conspiracy against you and our leader.

"You came through so strongly for us. Even when for reasons best known to them, those in charge failed in their responsibility (details for another day), you never did.

"Notwithstanding the outcome, you were still there to show concern as a statesman and a party man that you are.

"Having found this immeasurable and exemplary leadership in you, we will remain with you in this struggle.

"Wherever you go, we will go. Whatever you do, we will support.

"We are not mindful of the fact that our support for your legitimate aspiration, based on the principle of rotational presidency, is not unconnected with the conspiracies against yourself and our leader. We however wish to state that we will continue to champion very strongly, whatever decision you take publicly without apologies.

"We will respond strongly and decisively to any attempt at undermining or disrespecting your person and leadership. We will not beg for relevance with them.

"Most importantly, nobody should act as if the election has been won. They may wish away Ekiti votes but may not wish away the voices of Governor Wike and Fayose," the letter read.

ThisNigeria reported that Governor Wike was conspired against by some "vociferous forces" within the party who claimed that he would be "uncontrollable" as the vice president.

PoliticsUmahi Visits Wike In Port Harcourt by WORDSENSEI(op): 8:20am On Jun 19, 2022
Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Umahi on Saturday paid a visit to his Rivers State counterpart, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike at his private residence in Port Harcourt.

ThisNigeria reports that Umahi arrived on what he called “a friendly and brotherly” visit at 9pm.

This visit makes it Umahi’s first meeting with Wike after the former dumped the PDP for the APC following an alleged dissatisfaction with the party.

Wike and Umahi both contested the primaries of their respective parties.

However, the Rivers Governor is regarded as a victim of intense “powerplay and gang up” by vociferous forces within his party after he was denied the vice presidential candidacy despite being the party’s favourite.

He had been endorsed by the screening committee of the party but was passed over for Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.

A source had told ThisNigeria that Okowa’s emergence as Atiku’s running mate was influenced by PDP Party Chair, Iyorchia Ayu amid a grand conspiracy by Northern Oligarchs and some ex-military chiefs, who believed that Wike “could not be controlled” if he got the slot.

Politics2023: How Ayu Was Used To Stop Wike’s Emergence As Atiku’s Running Mate by WORDSENSEI(op): 12:00pm On Jun 17, 2022
That Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike was schemed out of emerging as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, despite being the party's frontline choice, is well known to many Nigerians.

A source who spoke with THISNIGERIA said that it was a "grand conspiracy" spearheaded by some political forces and clinically effected by the party's National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

"Atiku obviously did not want Wike to be his running mate, despite selling a dummy that he was open to the three candidates including Wike. For a long time, it was obvious there had been a no-love lost relationship between both men dating to 2018-2019 presidential primary in Port Harcourt where Wike backed Tambuwal. Atiku had never really liked Wike, but merely played politically expedient relationship with him.

"There were other factors that conspired to deny Wike the No.2 ticket of the party; like the pervasive influence of some Northern Oligarchs and Feudals who were brainwashed to believe that Wike would be 'uncontrollable' as the country's Vice President.

"Some retired Generals of Northern origin, including an ex-Military Intelligence Chief, were part of those that pressured Atiku not to pick Wike. According to them, power must not be given to someone who allegedly hates the North and could gain access to the number one office in the future.

"They have had it in for Wike since he fought against the collection of his state's Value Added Tax (VAT) by the Federal Government and his belief that Nigeria must encourage states to harness their resources and generate revenues.

"Also, the Northern Oligarchs believed that the Rivers Governor is allegedly 'anti-Muslim' due to the 'phantom demolition' of a mosque in Port Harcourt which had been refuted even by Northerners in the state. Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, Kayode Fayemi came and saw it was all silly propaganda," the source said.

The source stated further that the Presidential Candidate set up the Screening Committee of notable party members, even when he had his mind zeroed in on Okowa "as a decoy" but also made Ayu, his long-time ally and associate to ensure that Okowa emerged as his running mate.

"Ayu was doing Atiku's bidding but under the wraps," THISNIGERIA's impeccable source stated. "The Committee strongly believed that Wike would deliver more votes for the party compared to Okowa. Wike was the party's choice but he cannot be a puppet, which the powers-that-be do not like," the source added.

https://thisnigeria.com/exclusive-atiku-jettisons-pdp-committee-report-picks-okowa-as-running-mate/ reported hours before the Vice Presidential Candidate screening exercise scheduled for Thursday, June 16, that Atiku had jettisoned the Committee's report to pick Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 Presidential election.

PoliticsAtiku Jettisons PDP Committee Report, To Pick Okowa As Running Mate by WORDSENSEI(op): 3:18am On Jun 16, 2022
In a surprise move, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar has picked Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

A source who spoke exclusively with THISNIGERIA said that Atiku's decision was made out of "undue pressure and conspiracy against the party's frontline choice, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike."

The source added that the Vice Presidential Candidate screening exercise scheduled to hold at 10am on Thursday would be "a mere formality" as Atiku had already made his choice.

THISNIGERIA had reported that a 19-man commitee set up to pick a running mate for Atiku had voted for Wike as the party's choice, followed by Okowa and Emmanuel Idom of Akwa Ibom state.

A source who spoke to THISNIGERIA said that Wike had scored majority of the votes cast by the members of the committee led by Ambassador Umar Damagum.

Members who attended the meeting include: House Minority Leader, Hon. Tony Elumelu, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, former governor of Niger State, Babagida Aliyu, former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, former Cross Rivers State Governor, Liyel Imoke.

Others include former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko and PDP National Secretary, Sam Nwayanu, National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, former senate president David Mark.

Politics2023: Zoning Presidency To South Is Falsehood – APC Chairman by WORDSENSEI(op): 3:04pm On Jun 05, 2022
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdulahi Adamu has said that the 2023 presidency has not been zoned to any particular region.

He stated that those "peddling the falsehood are doing so on their own peril."

Adamu, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on media, Muhammed Nata'ala Keffi, stressed that when the presidential aspirants met with the President Muhammadu Buhari, there was no time that he declared that the presidency was zoned to the South.

Adamu stated further that the contest was still open to all the aspirants.

He said: ''For clarity about zoning issue that is circulating all over social media is not true. It is fake, mischievous and misleading by unscrupulous elements that mean no well to this nation.

"Mr. President stated that 'without prejudice to your qualifications, I urge all of you to hold consultations amongst yourselves and with the party, with a view to building a consensus in a manner that would help the party reduce the number of aspirants, bring up a formidable candidate and scale down the anxiety of party members.'

"He also reminded the APC Governors of the need for the party to proceed to the 2023 presidential elections with strength, unity of purpose and to present a flag bearer who will give Nigerians a sense of hope and confidence, while insuring victory for our party and I extend a similar reminder to all of you distinguished aspirants.

''The president assured us that in the interest of the nation and the party, he would continue to provide effective leadership during the transition processes and ongoing consultations and until we successfully make the choice on the candidate that will fly the flag of our party for the presidential elections and make the party stronger, I seek your support in this all-important responsibility.

''The president assured us that in the interest of the nation and the party, he would continue to provide effective leadership during the transition processes and ongoing consultations and until we successfully make the choice on the candidate that will fly the flag of our party for the presidential elections and make the party stronger. I seek your support in this all-important responsibility.'

''From the above quotations from Mr. President's speech, nowhere was zoning mentioned. Therefore, we call on the public to disregard any information about the zoning of the presidential contest in any part country. What Mr. President wants is the interest of Nigerians. No more, no less.

''Whoever is more credible and can move Nigeria forward with sincerity of purpose and can be acceptable to Nigerians is welcome'', the statement read.

CelebritiesNkechi Does Not Change Underwear For Days, Ex-lover, Falegan Claims by WORDSENSEI(op): 9:27am On May 12, 2022
Opeyemi Falegan, ex-lover to Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing Sunday, has said that he did not tender an apology because he wants back the relationship.

Falegan said this during an Instagram Live chat and said that he would never want the actress back because she lacked personal hygiene.

Making a u-turn, Falegan said that he left the actress because of her “dirty habits.”

“Why would I want her back? I apologised because I want bygones to be bygones. Why would I want her back? Are you serious?

“I left for a different reason which is personal hygiene. You have to tell a woman to change her panties in three days? You have to remind a woman to brush her teeth and after the whole thing, everywhere is messed up. You want me to manage that? That’s not possible.

“I even took you lingerie shopping. Did you wear any of them? Why? Personal hygiene. I cannot manage that. If you online inlaws are angry, go ahead and marry her,” he said.

CrimeChrisland: Four Teachers Arraigned For Concealing Sex Tape Of 10-year-old by WORDSENSEI(op): 3:13pm On May 10, 2022
Three male and a female teacher of the Chrisland School Lagos, were on Tuesday docked in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ court in Lagos for allegedly concealing a sex tape of a student.

The police charged Oladotun Sotunde, 56; Elesho Tajudeen;32, Rhoda Olanipekun; 45, and Ajigboye Hammed, 41 with two counts of conspiracy and attempt to pervert justice.

They however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police officer in charge of the Legal Department at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Mrs Yetunde Cardoso appeared with Mr Augustine Nwabuisi for the prosecution.

Cardoso said that the defendants committed the offence on April 25, at Chrisland School, in Victoria Garden City, Idimu, Lagos.

She said that the defendants were asked to chaperone the students to Dubai for a world school game.

According to her, the students engaged in indecent sexual acts while on the trip and a 10-year-old student made a sex tape which the teachers conspired to conceal.

She stated that the teachers allegedly obstructed the course of justice by hiding the indecent acts of the students’ sex video before it later went viral.

The offence, she said, contravene the provisions of 411 and 97 (1) (3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Section 97 provides seven years imprisonment for the offence of attempting to pervert justice while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.

Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N300,000 each with three responsible sureties each in like sum.

She held that the sureties must submit copies of their National Identification Number (NIN), and their Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) card.

She further directed that one of the sureties must be a landowner, but all of them must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of three years of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Adebayo ruled that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until June 13 for mention. (NAN)

Politics2022 Pre-election Matters May Exceed 2019 If...- INEC by WORDSENSEI(op): 3:01pm On May 10, 2022
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has expressed fears that 2022 pre-election matters may exceed that of 2019 if parties do not conduct their primaries in an orderly manner.

Yakubu made this disclosure when he hosted representatives of political parties at the national ⁴of of the Commission in Maitama during its 2nd Quarterly meeting with political parties for the year 2022.

He warned that political parties should endeavour to call their members to order as any attempt to usurp the function of the Commission will be punished for abuse of power, saying the Commission is committed to conducting transparent, free and credible elections where every member of the parties will heave a sigh of relief.

He said: "As you conclude your primaries and prepare for the off-cycle and general elections, I urge you to ensure a transparent electioneering process devoid of acrimony and rancour. In doing so, fidelity to internal democracy is critical. Unfortunately, the number of litigations by aggrieved party members challenging the conduct of party primaries so far may exceed the 807 pre-election Court cases on the 2019 General Election in which the Commission was joined by litigants.

" In addition, as we all know the security situation in the country is challenging enough. Do not wittingly or unwittingly compound the situation by the disruptive behaviour of your members and supporters during party primaries and general elections.

"As we commence our second regular quarterly consultative meeting for this year, I want to reassure party leaders that while the Commission will remain firm in applying the law, we will continue to work with political parties as critical stakeholders in the best interest of our country", he stated.

The INEC Chairman said this is the first since the Electoral Act 2022 came into force on Friday 25th February 2022 adding that it is the first time since the Commission released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election over two months ago on Saturday 26th February 2022.

Perspectives for 2023, by Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa

He noted that already, all 18 political parties have forwarded the schedules of their primaries to the Commission, and some have commenced the process of choosing their candidates by conducting Ward and Local Government congresses.

"The period earmarked for the conduct of primaries by political parties commenced on 4th April 2022 and will end 24 days from today i.e. 3rd June 2022.

" Twice in the last two weeks, the Commission had cause to remind political parties of the necessity for strict compliance with the timelines for party primaries. I hereby reiterate the position of the Commission that there will be no review of the timelines. There are so many inter-related activities that are associated with the timelines which must be carried out.

"Any review to extend the timeline for one activity will affect other activities and put unnecessary pressure on political parties and the Commission. This will ultimately result in more complications than what the extension seeks to achieve. Therefore, the Commission will not review the timelines. Working together, we should ensure fidelity to the timelines in conducting transparent and Democratic primaries for the purpose of electing candidates for the 1,491 constituencies for which elections will be held on 25th February and 11th March 2023.

CrimeNAPTIP Names New Destination For Human Trafficking by WORDSENSEI(op): 3:00pm On Apr 20, 2022
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has said that Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), had now become the destination of choice for victims of human trafficking.

Nduka Nwanwenne, Zonal Commander, NAPTIP, Benin Zonal Command, made the disclosure on Wednesday, in Benin, at the commencement of a three-day sensitisation programme on human trafficking.

Nwanwenne explained that against the norm where victims of human trafficking were transported by their traffickers by land to their destinations, victims were now air transported.

“This is because the human traffickers have stepped up their game, and the destination of choice of victims of human trafficking was now Dubai.

“Human Trafficking is not abating in the country, because traffickers make so much money from their victims so they take it as a business.

“The traffickers are now also concentrating on rural areas for recruitment of their victims”, he said.

The zonal commander also revealed that irregular migration was also been used as a ploy for human trafficking, such that its victims were being exploited for their organs.

“There is now an increase in organ harvesting not just for money rituals, but also for transplants.

“This is because the need for organs is higher than the supply”, he added.

While noting that the issue of human trafficking was still on the front burner, Nwanwenne said that there was a need for partnership to end human trafficking.

He said that baby sales/baby factory operations were part of human trafficking and that there was a need for concerted efforts to end human trafficking.

“As security agencies, we must be alive to our duties. We must join hands with the government to fight the issue of human trafficking. I must also advise parents to stop putting pressure on their children to go and make money.

“Parents should control themselves and give birth to only the number of children they can cater for,” he said. (NAN)
