- BATTLEFIELD 2022: How Russia and the US militaries stack up with 16,000mph hypersonic missiles, robot tanks & stealth warships.

RUSSIA and the US risk a military showdown as they continue to trade barbs over Ukraine amid fears of an imminent invasion.

Joe Biden has warned that Vladimir Putin may be preparing an offensive within days - with such a move feared to trigger the biggest conflict since World War 2.

NATO and Russia have long had a tit-for-tat row with each accusing the other of aggression in Eastern Europe.

And as tensions have ramped up, it appears to be devolving into a potentially devastating game of chicken.

Putin is believed to want to seize parts of Ukraine - as he did with Crimea in 2014 - as part of his chilling ambition to bring Russia back to the heady days of the Soviet Union.

Will the West send forces to deter Russian and intervene in the rising tensions? Or will Putin be left to carry out his feared invasion of Ukraine?

It has been warned any regional conflict which brings the West and Russia to loggerheads could spiral out of control and may become World War 3.

The US and Russia have comparable militaries in terms of size - but Washington massively outspends Moscow.

The White House forks out $778 billion on its armies and weapons, while Russia reportedly spends a fraction of that with $62 billion.

The US has more active personnel with 1.4 million compared to Russia's estimated around 1 million, but Putin has a much larger reserve force with 2million compared to 850,000.

Russia also has more tanks with around 13,000 compared to the US's 6,100, and more naval assets with 600 compared to 490.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/KH-GRAPHIC-US-VS-RUSSIA-1.jpg?strip=all&w=634
Putin and Biden have two of the largest militaries in the world at their command.

Putin however lacks the key vessel in modern naval warfare - aircraft carriers.

The US have 20 of the mammoth floating airfields, while Putin has just one the infamous, smoke belching and unreliable Soviet-era Admiral Kuznetsov.

Washington also has more destroyers with 94 compared to 18 which include the state-of-the-art USS Zumwalt and more submarines the with 69 to 59.

Russia has more corvettes - the smallest class of warship - with 83 as compared to 22.

And the US also rules the skies as it has vastly more aircraft with over 13,000 compared to Russia's around 4,000.

The Pentagon also maintains a much larger force of combat drones with around 300, while Russia is only believed to have around two dozen.

And these are some of the most impressive weapons which head up each side's arsenal at the world awaits with bated breath for Putin to make his move.

Russia's RS-28 Sarmat/SATAN 2:

Russia has claimed its Satan 2 missiles are almost ready to enter service in a major step forward for Putin's missile arsenal.

The 15,880mph weapon can deliver between 10 and 15 warheads that weigh up to 10-tonnes to any point in the world flying over both the North and South Pole.

It is claimed the weapon - known in Russia as The Sarmat - has the capability to use trajectories and unpredictable routes which “substantially impede their destruction even by advanced missile defence systems”.

And its reported just one of its warheads would contains eight megatons of TNT-equivalent explosive power.

That is more than 400 times as strong as either bomb the US dropped on Japan in the final days of World War 2.

Kremlin officials have bragged it is an "invincible" weapon and it has been under development for 10 years.

USS ZUMWALT:

USS Zumwalt is known for its unique stealthy shape to dodge radar (Credit: AP)

The USS Zumwalt is a 15,000 tonne destroyer known for its unique appearance - more resembling something out of Star Wars than a seagoing warship.

The ship cost £3.2billion and features an angular shape to dodge radar and sensors.

It boasts a powerful weapons systems that can unleash 600 rocket-powered missiles on targets more than 70 miles away.

And the vessel can operate with half as many crew as a normal destroyer due to advanced technologies.

The 610-foot ship is 50 per cent heavier than the US's previous generation of destroyers.

USS Zumwalt was the first of a wave of new ships - but after just three were completed, the rest of the programme was cancelled due to costs.

BELGOROD SUBMARINE:

Putin's massive submarine has been described as a 'city killer''.

Russia's giant "city killer" submarine - the Belgorod - is packed with "apocalypse" drones designed to trigger a radioactive tsunami.

The ship - which at 604ft is twice the size of the Royal Navy's Astute-class attack subs - is hailed as a "game changer" for Putin's forces.

The 14,700-ton war machine was made even longer so it can carry the new devastating nuclear-tipped Poseidon torpedoes guided by artificial intelligence.

The fearsome Belgorod quietly took to sea for the first time last year amid threats to sink British and US warships in the Black Sea.

And this week, sources told Russia's Tass news agency the final sea trials are almost complete.

It will reportedly serve in the Pacific fleet - directly threatening US naval bases on the West Coast and major cities such as Los Angeles.

US B-2 BOMBER:

https://www.19fortyfive.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/B-2-Bomber-1102x800.jpg
B2 Bombers are one of the most iconic warplanes of the modern era.

The B-2 bomber has been in service for 30 years, but she remains an iconic and devastating part of the US's aresnal.

The heavy strategic bombers have a distinctive flying wing design and can carry up to 50,000lbs of bombs.

Nuclear weapons can be packed on board, along with devastating conventional explosives such as massive bunker busters.

Capable of flying at speeds of 630mph over a range of 6,900 miles - the plane has a long reach and also very hard to detect while in stealth mode.

Some 21 of the bombers remain in service.

Each aircraft - like a warship - also has its own name, such as the Spirit of America, the Spirit of Texas or the Spirit of New York.

Russia's "CHECKMATE" Stealth Bomber:

Russian plane-maker Sukhoi has developed a new single-engine stealth fighter. The jet, which Sukhoi apparently refers to as “Checkmate,” will officially enter service in the Russian Air Force in 2023.

Rostec, Sukhoi’s parent company, teased Checkmate in a video the firm released July 13 2021. A few days later, photos circulated online depicting what appears to be a tarp-draped Checkmate demonstrator at Ramenskoye airfield, site of the MAKS show.

The teases have inspired frantic speculation about Checkmate’s design and capabilities. Samuel Bendett, an expert on the Russian military with the Center for a New American Security in Washington, D.C, said Checkmate is an export fighter - a relatively inexpensive, low-observable warplane that Sukhoi can sell to countries that the U.S. State Department won’t allow to buy the F-35.

Russia's T-14 ARMATA:

T-14 tanks are believed to be capable of operating autonomously (Credit: Reuters)

The fearsome T-14 Armata is seen as the next generation of super tank and is intended to have the capability to operate without an human input.

It has been reported the tank has currently been developed to operate on remote control - but is intended to be fully autonomous.

And the tankers have a special stealth coating to disguise themselves on enemy radar.

UV detectors give instant warning of incoming fire while a 125mm smoothbore cannon fires at a rate of 100 shots per minute.

It also boasts a fully autonomous turret that can rotate 360 degrees at high speed to hit back at threats in any direction.

The tanks also have slat armour providing protection against high-precision anti-tank weapons and close combat weapons such as hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers.

U.S F-35:

F-35 fighter jets are operated by the United States & the United Kingdom.

F-35s are the £100million fighter jets designed to the next generation of aerial warfare for the West.

Operated by the US, UK and some of their allies - the aircraft is a stealth fighter jet designed for both strike missions and aerial combat.

The warplanes can fly at speeds of up to Mach 1.6 and can carry up to 18,000lbs worth of weapons.

Taking off from either an airfield or an aircraft carrier, the versatile jets are fifth generation fighters designed to stay in service until 2070.

Equipped with advanced cockpit technology, the F-35 actually beams data onto the specialised visor of the pilot's helmet - helping them feel one with the aircraft.

Hypersonic missiles and nuclear bombs are all capable of being carried by the plane which is also armed with a 4 barrel rotary cannon.

Russia's Sukhoi SU-57:

https://www.defenseforces.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Su-57-2.jpg
Vladimir Putin's answer to the U.S F-35 is the Sukhoi SU-57.

Russia's answer to the F-35 is Putin's own fifth generation fighter, the Sukhoi Su-57 - which entered service in 2020.

The aircraft is a stealth fighter with a sleek design to help it evade radar detection.

Su-57s can hit speeds of up to 1,327mph and are bristling with weapons, capable of carrying up to 12 missiles and bombs.

And the fighters are also designed to be able to carry Putin's terrifying hypersonic nuclear missiles.

It is reported the weapons will be able to be fired for the Su-57 and travel five times the speed of sound towards its target.

USS GERALD R. FORD:

USS Gerald R. Ford is the lead ship of it's class and cost $13 billion.

The USS Gerald R. Ford is the lead ship in her class for Washington's next generation of aircraft carriers.

The 100,000 ton vessel is powered by two nuclear reactors and can carry up to 75 warplanes, bombers and helicopters.

Being the latest class of super carrier, the ship is truly enormous - being 1,092ft long and carrying a crew of more than 2,500 sailors.

Like all US carriers, she is designed to be the hub of a carrier strike group - being accompanied by destroyers and submarines.

Her sister ship the USS John F. Kennedy is expected to be in service by 2024, while the USS Enterprise will join them in 2028.

Yes indeed his death was kind of painful though.
Do you know there is a spinoff of the last kingdom called seven kings must die?

This time it's not a series, it's a two hours movie and the casts are the same surviving casts of the last kingdom season 5.
They already wrapped up filming, all we are waiting now is the release date.
Though the last kingdom season 5 ended on a good note, it may seems as though there is still a very important Story to tell from the book.
I just found out few seconds ago.
So we just have to wait what they have in store for us in the movie. I just hope they don't kill off our favorites cry cry
Oh wow i had no idea.

The last kingdom has indeed shown what it means to be loyal.
It's not all these agape loyalty and brotherhood we have nowadays. The bond of loyalty and brotherhood in the last kingdom is top notch, even vikings series had no strong bond except maybe for floki and Ragnar but still floki betrayed Ragnar so i don't even think it qualifies to rival the brotherhood in the last kingdom.
This last season is a very very emotional season, my heart was almost broken during the first few episodes from episode 1 to 4. ( let me not drop spoilers) but i am sure you understand what i mean.
And the type of sound they play during those emotional scenes, it broke my heart i swear!!
The person responsible for sound did a very very Great job.

As for Edith!!! Men!!! We just lost another flower to the demons of lesbianism.
That woman is very very beautiful to be a lesbian, she needs to get a Cherry popped by someone like madingo grin grin

Foreign AffairsStormy Daniels Ordered To Pay Donald Trump $300k By U.S Court by WriterNig(op): 11:52am On Mar 22, 2022

https://www.thewrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Stormy-Daniels-Donald-Trump-618x400.png

President Donald Trump has won a court case brought against him by Stephanie Clifford, also known as adult film actress and producer Stormy Daniels.

Daniels, who made wild allegations about President Trump when he was running for president in 2016, will now be forced to put her money where her mouth is. The court ruled that she owes the 45th president almost $300,000 in attorney fees, costs, and sanctions.

President Trump commented on the legal victory against Daniels in an official statement made through his Save America PAC: “I never had an affair with Stormy Daniels, nor would I ever have wanted to,” he stated bluntly. “The ruling was a total and complete victory and vindication for, and of me.”

This ruling comes shortly after a February court ruling found Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenatti, guilty of cheating her out of money owed to her from a book she wrote about her alleged “affair” with President Trump, according to a report from Breitbart.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/stormy_daniels_trump_split.jpg?w=1024

However, President Trump had plenty to say about Daniels’ publicity stunt and the lawsuit brought against him with the help of Avenatti – who now resides in federal prison. “The lawsuit was a purely political stunt that never should have been started, or allowed to happen, and I am pleased that my lawyers were able to bring it to a successful conclusion after the court fully rejected her appeal,” he said.

This is not the first legal victory that Trump has had against Daniels. In 2018, the court ordered her to pay him almost $300,000 in legal fees after dismissing a defamation lawsuit, according to a report from The Guardian.

President Trump, true to form, cheerily remarked in his statement, “Now all I have to do is wait for all of the money she owes me. P.S. The Fake News probably won’t report this story!”

Just finished the last season of the last kingdom.
Now i know exactly why the fans of games of thrones weren't happy with how the game of thrones ended.
The way the last kingdom ended has now given me a wider understanding.
The last kingdom ended in such a way that you can't afford not to smile.
I was so happy, just smiling and very very pleased with the ending.
I am sure those that have seen it shares similar conclusion.
Now ended the series on a very good and high note, similar to how the 100 ended.
I am going to miss the series though, especially the characters i have grown to love.
Especially especially the mother of the King.
That woman survived irrespective of all the troubles, the mother of the king is indeed a great woman.
Anyways let me not drop spoilers as there are those still watching the show.
Goodbye to the last kingdom though it ended well, still i will miss the characters.

I tell you. The ending part of the last kingdom was too emotional, even for me. I almost shed a tear. Especially during the flashbacks, when Uthred hugged his brother Ragnar. And the part where Ragnar came to free Uthred from the slavers damn. cry embarassed cry. That's what true brotherhood looks like.

A Ukrainian Special Operations Forces training center near the town of Ovruch in the northern Zhytomyr Region, which hosted the mercenaries, was targeted by “high-precision air-launched missiles,” ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said during a briefing.

The airstrike has eliminated more than 100 Ukrainian special ops troops and foreign soldiers of fortune, he added.

A week ago, Russia destroyed another mercenary base at the Yavoriv range in the western Lviv region, saying that up to 180 foreign fighters were killed there.

Foreign AffairsWar In Ukraine: 'America Is Learning The Art Of Humility' by WriterNig(op): 8:13pm On Mar 19, 2022
https://mediaproxy.salon.com/width/1200/https://media.salon.com/2021/12/biden-putin-1209211.jpg

America is learning the art of humility. That's a good thing for the rest of the world.

The country that began this century by invading not one but two countries, has become more modest in the face of the nightmare that is Ukraine. Forget shock and awe, this is the era of caution and apprehension. That's what having no good options will do for you.

Friday's two-hour phone call with China's President Xi, superpower to superpower, was a sign of how hard it will be for America to stop this war. The US's leverage over China is limited, and readouts from both sides suggest the call didn't achieve much. But it was part of an orchestrated diplomatic strategy that contrasts with much of the first year of Joe Biden's presidency.

After the fiasco of the Afghan withdrawal last summer, America lost credibility with its European allies. US intelligence looked unprepared, and the operation of leaving was staggeringly incompetent. What's more, European diplomats complained, America didn't really consult with allies. America pulled out on its own precipitous timetable, leaving countries that still had forces and personnel in the country scrambling. When some Europeans said it would be smart to leave a residual Nato force, the White House ignored the pleas.

That heavy-handed mission was followed by another. In September, the White House announced a nuclear submarine security pact between Australia, Britain and the US. The pact left the French, who had been negotiating their own sub sale to the Australians, out in the cold.

Worse, the Elysee Palace said it learned of the new deal from the press. It was a masterclass in how not to handle your oldest ally. The French were so furious that President Biden apologised and admitted the US had been clumsy. But the damage was done.

By the autumn of 2021 Europeans were disappointed in the Biden administration and felt their hopes that a post-Trump America would be more collegial were ill-founded. When Washington started ringing the alarm bell about Russia and Ukraine, Europeans weren't in much mood to listen. "War-mongering" was how one EU diplomat described it to me.

https://media.npr.org/assets/img/2018/03/19/gettyimages-933727470-67e41c57f92cf1f4bbae7e288013ba6806eabcf1-s900-c85.jpg

Whether it was the lesson of Afghanistan or the nature of this particularly difficult catastrophe, we don't know, but the White House handled this crisis very differently.

From the start it has consulted with its allies, many of whom were sceptical. There are reports that US diplomats approached Europeans as equals not subordinates. The administration shared highly secret intelligence in a manner that was unprecedented. In the months that led up to the invasion senior White House officials made multiple trips to meet their European counterparts. President Biden made regular phone calls to European leaders.

This wasn't Iraq in 2002, it wasn't Trump's America First, it wasn't Afghanistan in 2021. This was genuine alliance building.

On 27 January there was an indication that the shuttle diplomacy was bearing fruit. A full month before the invasion, during an otherwise ordinary press briefing, the White House spokeswoman, Jennifer Psaki, announced that German Chancellor Olaf Sholz would visit the White House on 7 February.

Securing that visit of the brand new German leader was an indication that the administration both anticipated what was coming, and knew what was needed: German co-operation. A visit to the White House is a coup for any foreign leader, it's a useful weapon of soft power. Yes, President Zelensky's articulate appeals also played a big part in shifting German policy, but US diplomacy helped win German support.

Beyond diplomacy, there is a new recognition here of Washington's military limits, a realisation that force won't get America everything it wants, however strong its army. That's an unusual position for the world's biggest military.

When Saddam Hussein marched into Kuwait in 1990, the US rallied the world to put boots on the ground to get him out. In 1999 President Clinton ordered Nato jets to conduct airstrikes in Kosovo. After 9/11, the US strong-armed a coalition of the unwilling to invade Iraq. In 2011, the US military was part of the operation that helped topple Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.

https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/78/590x/secondary/Zelensky-3970875.jpg

Today Washington is holding back, resisting the emotional pleas of Zelensky to use that military clout. It's sending weapons, intelligence and cyber-support. But for the moment it won't do more.

America knows it could impose, and most probably enforce, a no-fly zone. It has the jets and missiles and pilots to do so. But, as the White House says repeatedly, mobilising the might of the Pentagon won't necessarily end this war, it might make it worse. The more America leads, the greater the risk that Putin can sell this to his own people as a fight between Russia and the US.

Which is why you won't hear this White House talk about regime change, or democracy, or even freedom in Russia.

I reread President Bush's second inaugural address, delivered in 2005, at the height of the Iraq war, when neo-conservatives ran US foreign policy.

"It is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nature and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world," the newly re-elected president declared. Talk about hubris.

Yet the White House also understands the risks of not being more assertive. It knows that not intervening could lead to the deaths of countless more Ukrainian civilians, and President Putin may strike a Nato country anyway. So it walks a tightrope with potentially horrifying consequences, recognising that there are no good answers. The US is left to help Ukrainians from the sidelines. And maybe that is all they can do.

It is enough to make anyone more humble.
