Foreign AffairsRe: 2nd U.S F-18 Fighter Jet Crashes Into Red Sea During Houthi Attack (Photos) by WriterNig(op):
By "crash" they mean shot down by the Houthis.

The Houthis have turned 3 US F-18 fighter jets into submarines chilling at the bottom of the Red Sea.

They have also shot down over 24 US MQ-9 Reaper Drones and have hit US aircraft carriers twice now. For a ragtag rebel group without an airforce or navy that's super impressive.

This is why Trump is now suing for a cease-fire. Even though the Houthis have denied ever brokering a peace deal with the US.

The US have finally met their match.

Another 🇺🇸 US F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier has been lost in the Red Sea, the second jet lost from the carrier in just over a week during attack by the Houthis, five people familiar with the matter told CNN.

It is not entirely clear what happened yet, as the investigation is ongoing, but two of the people said there was some kind of arrestment failure as the jet was trying to land on the carrier and the pilot and weapons systems officer had to eject. They were recovered by a rescue helicopter and are both alive, but they suffered minor injuries, one of the people said.

The jet crashed into the sea and has not been recovered, two of the people familiar with the incident said.

Separately, the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group “took a shot” at the Truman on Tuesday, four of the people said, despite President Donald Trump announcing an apparent ceasefire with the group hours earlier. It is not clear whether the two incidents are related.

The Office of the Secretary of Defense referred all questions about the incidents to the Navy and US Central Command. CNN has reached out to the Navy and CENTCOM for comment.

The loss of the fighter jet comes one week after another F/A-18 jet fell overboard the Truman. That time, initial reports indicated that the Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard.

An individual F/A-18 fighter jet costs more than $60 million, according to the Navy.

US Naval assets in the Red Sea have repeatedly come under Houthi fire since the Houthis began their attacks against Red Sea shipping in November 2023. In early 2024, a US destroyer in the Red Sea had to use its Phalanx Close-In Weapon System, its last line of defense to missile attacks, when a Houthi-fired cruise missile got as near as a mile away – and therefore seconds from impact.

The Truman aircraft carrier in particular, though, has been plagued with problems as part of its Red Sea deployment. In December, another F/A-18 fighter jet was operating from the Truman when it was “mistakenly fired” upon by the USS Gettysburg and crashed into the Red Sea. Both aviators ejected safely at the time.

Then, in February, the Truman was involved in a collision with a merchant ship near Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea. Following the incident, the commander of the Truman at the time, Captain Dave Snowden, was relieved of duty.

Captain Christopher Hill took command of the carrier shortly thereafter.

chai, shame on RUSSIA the so called word power that can not defeat small country like ukraine
No the bigger shame is on the so called world power U.S that needed troops from all 30 NATO members to invade the poorest country in the world Afghanistan. All NATO countries sent tens of thousands of troops. Even Ukraine sent troops to help US in Iraq.

The US spent 20 whole years, $4 trillion and still lost to goat herders walking on bare foot.

Ukraine on the other hand, had the largest ground & mechanized army in Europe. Much larger than France and Germany put together.

Plus Ukraine is the largest country in Europe after Russia.

You keep hammering on the less than 8k troops North Korea sent to Russia. While ignoring the fact that Poland alone sent double that amount to help Ukraine. US sent over 10k troops and a whole lot of others. From South America to Japan, all disguised as mercenaries.

At least 11 people were killed and "dozens" of others were injured Saturday as a vehicle plowed into a large crowd at a street festival in 🍁 Vancouver, officials said, describing it as a "mass casualty incident."

"A 30-year-old suspect, a Vancouver man, was arrested at the scene," the Vancouver Police Department said in a social media post, later adding, "At this time, we are confident that this incident was not an act of terrorism."

Vancouver police identified the suspect as Kai-Ji Adam Lo. The BC Prosecution Service charged him with eight counts of second degree murder.

Lo, a Vancouver resident, appeared in court on Sunday and remains in custody. The charge assessment is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.

The suspect is believed to have acted alone and there is currently no active threat to Canadians, Prime Minister Mark Carney said while delivering short remarks in Hamilton, Ontario, on Sunday.

The suspect had a history of interactions with police and health professionals for mental health reasons, Vancouver Police Interim Chief Constable Steve Rai told reporters Sunday.

"This is the darkest day in our city's history," Rai said. "Last night, as thousands of members of Vancouver's Filipino community gathered for an important cultural celebration, the actions of a single person shattered our collective sense of safety."

Crowds had gathered in the Canadian city to celebrate Lapu Lapu Day, Mayor Ken Sim said in a statement. A vehicle "drove into a large crowd of people" at the festival in the South Vancouver neighborhood at about 8:14 p.m., police said.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver's Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time," Sim said, describing the incident as "horrific."

The ages of the 11 victims ranged from 5 to 65, according to Rai on Sunday. He also said the number of dead could rise in the coming days or weeks.

The block party celebrating Filipino culture and Lapu-Lapu, a national hero of the Philippines, had been scheduled to run through 8 p.m. on Saturday, according to the organizers. Rai said there was a risk assessment conducted before the festival, and there were "no known threats to the event or to the Filipino community."

"It is hard to make sense of something so senseless," Rai said.

Videos from the scene, which were verified by ABC News, appear to show the aftermath of the incident, which happened on a stretch of East 43rd Avenue that had been lined on both sides with food trucks.

The videos appear to show first responders rushing to help the injured between the rows of food trucks. A black SUV can be seen in one video with what appears to be heavy damage to its hood. Police have not yet publicly identified the suspect's vehicle.

Carney said he was "devastated by the horrific events" at the festival, adding that at least 20 people were injured in addition to the 11 killed.

"I extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured, to the Filipino Canadian community, and to everyone in Vancouver," he said in a statement. "We are all mourning with you.

We are closely monitoring the situation and are grateful to our first responders for their swift action." The investigation is ongoing, Carney added.

🇮🇳 🆚 🇵🇰 Following the attack on tourists in Kashmir, the two neighbors are accusing each other and threatening retaliation. They have suspended two major bilateral treaties.

The prospect of a military confrontation between India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed countries, can no longer be ruled out.

The two neighbors are escalating sanctions and threats following the terrorist attack on Tuesday, April 22, in Kashmir, against tourists, which killed 25 Indians and one Nepali. The attack was the deadliest against civilians in India since the Mumbai attacks in 2008, which claimed 175 lives.

New Delhi immediately blamed its regional rival for the carnage and decided on a series of retaliations, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960 under the auspices of the World Bank.

It is the first time India, which controls the rivers thanks to Kashmir, has taken such a measure. Islamabad retaliated on April 24, after a security council meeting involving government members and the military leadership, whose role is crucial in Pakistan.

In a statement, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who denies any involvement of his country in the Pahalgam attack, warned that "any attempt to stop or divert the flow of water belonging to Pakistan as per the Indus Waters Treaty and the usurpation of the rights of lower riparian will be considered as an Act of War and responded with full force across the complete spectrum of national powder."

Pakistani Punjab, the country's grain basket and cotton producer, is entirely dependent on the Indus and its tributaries.

Take two nuclear-armed rivals. Mix in a history of war and a disputed region that's been the site of a decadeslong rebellion. Now add a deadly militant attack against civilians that risks boiling those tensions over.

That's where things stand between India and Pakistan after an April 22 attack that killed mostly Indian nationals in Jammu and Kashmir sent tensions between the two countries skyrocketing. India has accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism, but the Pakistani government denies it was behind the attack that killed 26 civilians.

New Delhi and Islamabad have since carried out tit-for-tat punishments following the incident, including downgrading diplomatic and trade ties, closing the main border crossing, and revoking visas for each other's nationals.

The Pakistani government later said it would consider it "an act of war" if India followed through on a threat to block the flow of crucial rivers as punishment for the deadly incident.

On April 26, Pakistan called for a "neutral" investigation into the killings, saying it "remains committed to peace" ad that it was willing to cooperate with any probe.

Indian and Pakistani forces on April 25 exchanged gunfire for the second straight day along the Line of Control (LOC) separating the two countries in disputed Kashmir, which is split between them, claimed by both in its entirety, and was at the center of two of the three wars that New Delhi and Islamabad have fought against each other.

With tensions simmering, the episode has governments worried that India and Pakistan are once again on the brink of war.

At the end of the war, everyone will be shocked to find out the actual number of Americans & Europeans who have died in Ukraine.

Now we know why Trump and European leaders are always lamenting and holding millions of meetings to look for a way to "force" Russia to end the war or at least pause it so they can restock their armory.

An 🇺🇸 American man identified as the son of a deputy director of the CIA was killed in eastern Ukraine in 2024," according to a CIA spokesperson on Friday, NBC reported.

Michael Alexander Gloss, 21, died on 4 April 2024 in “Eastern Europe”, according to an obituary published by his family. He was the son of Juliane Gallina, who was appointed the deputy director for digital innovation at the Central Intelligence Agency in February 2024.

The story of how the son of a top-ranking US spy died fighting for Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is an unlikely tale of how homegrown anger at the United States and online radicalisation led from a middle-class Virginia childhood to the killing fields of eastern Ukraine.

On a VKontakte page attributed to Gloss, a high school football player born to parents who both served in the military, he described himself as “a supporter of the multipolar world. I ran away from home. traveled the world. I hate fascism. I love my homeland.” He also posted the flags of Russia and Palestine.

According to the investigative website iStories, Gloss is one of more than 1,500 foreigners who have signed contracts with the Russian military since February 2022.

The database for the enrollment office was later leaked, exposing him as having signed the contract in September 2023. Sources told iStories that Gloss had been deployed with “assault units”, those engaged in harsh frontline fighting, in December 2023. An acquaintance said that he had been deployed to a Russian airborne regiment sent to storm Ukrainian positions near the city of Soledar.

“With his noble heart and warrior spirit Michael was forging his own hero’s journey when he was tragically killed in Eastern Europe on April 4, 2024,” his family wrote in the obituary, which did not mention Russia and Ukraine or discuss the circumstances of his death.

In university, Gloss was active in gender equality and environmental protest circles. He joined Rainbow Family, a leftwing environmental protest group, and in 2023 traveled to Hatay, Turkey, to assist in the recovery following the earthquake that killed more than 56,000 people. He had also become increasingly angry at the US for its support of Israel and the war in Gaza.

While in Turkey, Gloss began expressing a desire to go on to Russia. “He was usually watching videos about Palestine and was so angry at America,” one acquaintance told iStories. “He started thinking about going to Russia. He wanted to war with the USA. But I think he was very influenced by the conspiracy theory videos.”

After receiving a visa to Russia, he traveled around the country before arriving in Moscow, where he joined the military shortly before his documents expired. Photographs and videos obtained by iStories showed he was sent to a Russian training camp, where he mostly trained alongside Nepali contract soldiers. Three months after enlisting, an acquaintance said, he was deployed to Ukraine as a member of an assault battalion.

The circumstance’s of Gloss’s death are not known. A friend said that his family had been informed by the Russian government of his death but were given little other information.

“It was announced that he died within the borders of Ukraine,” the friend wrote. “We do not know whether he participated in the war. They did not provide any other detailed information.”
