The new goal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is to inflict as much damage as possible on enemy personnel with minimal own losses.

The U.S. State Department said Friday that the international community will hold Russia accountable for “what happens” to Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny “in their custody.”

“We have communicated to the Russian government that they are responsible for what happens to Mr. Navalny in their custody, and they will be held accountable by the international community,” a statement by a spokesperson for the State Department reads.

On Monday, a press secretary for Navalny, Kira Yarmysh, posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that the prisoner hadn’t been heard from in the six days before. Yarmysh also said he didn’t show up to court that day.

“This is already the sixth day since we don’t know where Alexey is or what’s happening to him,” Yarmysh said.

The White House has expressed its concerns about the situation.

“He should be released immediately. He should never have been jailed in the first place,” White House national security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters. “We’re going to work with our embassy in Moscow to see how much more we can find out.”

⚡New York's Metropolitan Museum will return 16 pieces of ancient art to Thailand and Cambodia after determining it had been illegally looted.

The repatriation was announced on Friday by the museum and federal prosecutors in New York.

The art came from Douglas Latchford, a British art dealer who was charged in 2019 with "running a vast antiquities trafficking network" in southeast Asia.

Prosecutors say the decision to return it was made voluntarily by the museum.

"As demonstrated with today's announcement, pieces linked to the investigation of Douglas Latchford continue to reveal themselves," US Homeland Security Special Agent Erin Keegan said in a statement on Friday.

She added that the artworks "were shamelessly stolen".

Fourteen Khmer sculptures will be sent to Cambodia and two to Thailand.

Ukraine plans a new counteroffensive in 2024, Germany's Welt reports.

- The U.S. received a wish list from Ukraine, which includes Black Hawk and Apache attack helicopters, F-16 and F-18 fighter jets, missile complexes, Abrams tanks, UAVs and ammunition.

- Ukraine can count on 95% of all weapons systems supplied from the West, as they have not yet been used at the front.

- In the south, the Armed Forces hold a bridgehead on the Left Bank of the Dnieper and continue to expand it. From here it is only 60 km to Crimea. Crimea is a weak point of the Russians.

- The bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnieper can become a starting point. Having fighter jets, helicopters and drones, Ukraine could support the offensive, especially since there are practically no Russian fortifications here.

- Zaluzhny was not a supporter of the start of the summer offensive. A quick breakthrough was impossible and a change of strategy was a smart move, important time was gained.

⚡All AFU reserves are being sent to Avdeevka and Kupyansk, arguably the two most important regions for the Ukrainians and the rest of the front is slowly being eaten away.

The Russians want Avdeevka but if they can use it to fix nearly every reserve brigade I think that will suit them just as well.

⚡Yemen's Houthis hit a vessel with a ballistic missile in a first.

In a first, Houthis hit Liberian flagged MV PALATIUM 3 container ship with a ballistic missile while it was transiting the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

This is reportedly “the first operational instance of a vessel being struck by a ballistic missile at sea” and “potentially the first successful anti-ship ballistic raid.”

Houthis actually fired two ballistic missile towards another vessel, but it missed.

MV PALATIUM 3 broadcasted a mayday call and reported that the vessel was on fire. U.S. Navy’s USS MASON has responded to that request.
